• How to clear cache for previously installed InfoPath forms on a client computer?

  Hi folks, We recently had a strange issue with an InfoPath 2007 form being opened from SharePoint 2007 and receiving the error message "the system cannot find the file specified". To be clear, this was not a form services enabled form. Anyway, after spending way too much time trying to figure out what was going on (nothing in the MOSS 2007 server log files), we determined that the user had previously installed an older version of the form (but with the same name) on their workstation using a no longer available msi file (meaning we could not uninstall it from the workstation). So I wanted to pass on a very simple solution for anyone who is unfortunate to run into this problem in the future (since I lost a great deal of hair over it): Fire up regedit, go to HKEY_LOCALMACHINE-Software-Microsoft-Office-InfoPath-SolutionsCatalog. Locate the key that has the previously installed form name, and delete it. This will cause InfoPath to stop trying to open the form locally (which is either old or doesn't exist) and force it to open your form from SharePoint. Hope this helps someone!

  We are thinking of restructuring our database development and deployment processes by using DBGhost, we want to move away from the central development database and bring the database to the source control. One of the problems we have is a big table with static data (containing translated language strings), it has close to 200K rows. I know that our best solution is to move these stings into resource files, but until we implement that, will DbGhost be able to maintain all this static data and generate our development and deployment databases in a short time? And if not is there a good alternative to filling up this table whenever we need to?

• Merging MySQL Structure and Data

  I have a MySQL database running on a deployment machine which also contains data. Then I have another MySQL database which has evolved in terms of STRUCTURE + DATA for some time. I need a way to merge the changes (ONLY) for both structure and data to the DB in deployment machine without disturbing the existing data. Does anyone know of a tool available which can do this safely. I have had a look at a few comparison tools but I need a tool which can automate the merge operation. Note also that most of the data in the tables is in BINARY so I can't use many file comparison tools. Does any one know of a solution to this? thanks

• Minimum OS version number, iPhone app

  Hi all I've built an iPhone app which is live in the app-store. When originally submitting the app it showed up in App Store as requiring iPhone OS 3.1.3. When later updating the app I made sure my settings in Xcode for the target for the app store build had the Base SDK version set to 3.1.3 and the Deployment Target version set to 3.0, however it still shows up in app store as requiring 3.1.3. From what I've understood the Deployment Target version is the one setting the requirement in app store? Or is there any information concerning this that I should have updated in iTunes Connect when submitting the updated app? Thanks, Michael

Does anybody know how to install and configure with Dyanmic CRM 4.0? Does RBS with Standard Edition of SQL Server 2008? • How to regularly merge two git repositories, one with submodules into one without

  I maintain a Drupal project in a git repository containing submodules. This works well for me overall, and I like the submodule approach. However, I would like to move my site to a hosting provider that offers deployment via git push but doesn't work with submodules. I would like to keep my current repository intact, and then when I'm ready to deploy, I would like to merge the changes from my repository into the deployment repository, but any submodules need to be exported into the tree. So, it needs to be (semi) automated, so I can just run a command or two and initiate the merge, and then push to the server. Ideally it would keep track of individual commits, but I wouldn't mind if it squashed them into a single commit. How would be the most effective way to achieve this?

• Exception wrapping and HTML pages

  Hi, We have a sharepoint 2007 project at work. The exception handling policy is to log to the Sharepoint logs. In this case, would the best approach be to call that method and then rethrow the exception higher up? Except if I rethrow it to be caught higher up, there is no other exception handling code so what would happen in this case? Also, if you are going to display a more friendly error to the user (which uses information in the exception object), then this would be a good use of exception wrapping. Would it be a good idea to make a custom aspx page and add these to customerrors, so that on init (not sure of the exact event), I can display exception info in the passed parameter on the page. However, a static html page can't do this so I don't see the point in wrapping exceptions (unless there is a page or alert which uses the exception object). So if a project uses html pages for errors, is there a point in wrapping exceptions? Thanks

  I've posted a code sample below. Firstly let me explain termStore.Groups in the code below is a collection of Group Objects (The exact class is irrelevant). Checking for null : if (termStore.Groups[groupName] == null) seems like a logical (clean) approach, but if the Groups collection is empty then an exception is produced. using the termStore.Groups.Contains is not an option either because this expects a strong type i.e: .Contains(Group)... not .Contains(GroupName as string) Can someone recommend a clean / generic way I can check for if an item exists in collection . • Beginner servlet question: accessing files in a .war, which path?

  When a third-party library I'm using tries to access a file, I'm getting "Error opening ... file ... (No such file or directory)" even though I KNOW the file is in the WAR. I've tried both packaged (.war) and "exploded" (directory) deployment, and the file is definitely there. I've tried setting full permissions on it too. It's on Unix (Ubuntu). File is war/dict/index.sense and the error is "dict/index.sense (No such file or directory)". It works fine on my Windows computer when running in hosted mode as a GWT app from Eclipse, just not when I transfer it to the Unix machine for deployment. My question is: has anybody experienced this before and/or are there differences in relative path that I should consider i.e. what's the root path for relative file access in a war?

  I've been writing Windows Services for a while and they always seem to work fine for things that need to run every day, few times a week, once a month, etc. but I've been lately thinking about going with Windows Workflow Foundation. However, I am unsure how would they run on a server without some container application (for instance SharePoint)? I worked with Sharepoint workflows before and I always had huge problems, at first with the bugs in the workflow architecture implementation (the problems with sleep and delay) and later when they eventually started to work, they were difficult to manage and change. On the other hand Windows Services were always quite easy to implement, easy to create a setup for them and install them and they were always quite resilient (they were often working for months without crashing or something else going wrong). What do you recommend? Please bear in mind we are working in .NET (version is of no problem, if 4.0 brings something new on this subject, we can use it).

Then based on 1: a) deleting web.config and renaming should only happen if code in destination is new b) Robocopy should not override files if they are the same I think there is /Xo option to do that any idea how to achieve that? :)

  Ad:: SharePoint 2007 Training in .NET 3.5 technologies (more information). It is with great humbleness and honor that I accept Microsoft’s MVP award for 2010. This will be my .. I forget how many years, as an MVP. So suffice to say, I was a lot younger when I first got the MVP award, but also the excitement never dies. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still young, foolish and weird :). (and good looking, might I add) I’d like to share a few things with you on what I have learnt being a part of this very prestigious program that I am so unworthy of. Never aim to be an MVP. Let it be a consequence of what you already are. Always be down to earth, just because you’re an MVP doesn’t mean you’re better than anyone else. The biggest reward of the MVP program, yes much bigger than the free top notch MSDN subscription, is the amazing interaction you will have with other fellow MVPs, and incredibly smart people in the community in general. Get involved in the community, for your own sake! You will learn so much from your peers, it is a very very rewarding experience. Learn, Learn and Learn! Never under estimate the power of knowledge. Both technical and otherwise. I thank each one of you for all the attention you have given me over the past many years. And a very special thanks to my MVP lead, Melissa Travers, and my previous MVP lead Rafael Munoz (who isn’t with Microsoft anymore, but I am sure is kicking butt wherever he is). We are truly entering a very very exciting time in the technology space. Both Google and Apple are challenging Microsoft, forcing Microsoft to innovate at a pace like never before. Microsoft is coming out with an incredible amount of good, new and exciting stuff. Windows Mobile 7, Azure, .NET 4.0, Silverlight 4.0, IE9, and of course SharePoint 2010. The level of innovation in the tech industry is simply unprecedented. A truly exciting time for anyone who lives, breathes, sleeps and dreams of technology even when awake! (Like me!) As you know, I’ve been working on my SP2010 book lately. I’m happy to also inform that the book is DONE. WOOHOO!! :). So this means, I’ll have more time to blog, and cause more trouble in general.
