• How to use postfix header_checks with zarafa outgoing mail

  I'm using zarafa as MDA with postfix. For privacy reasons I want to filter client internal IP-addresses and stuff like this. To do so I've added the following to master.cf: submission inet n - - - - smtpd [...] -o cleanup_service_name=subcleanup [...] and further down the file: subcleanup unix n - - - 0 cleanup -o header_checks=pcre:/etc/postfix/smtp_header_checks which works perfectly for clients delivering their mail through the submission port. But my zarafa is of course not using the submission port to send mail, hence it doesn't hit the subcleanup routine and outgoing mails contain a very nice X-Mailer: Zarafa-exact_version header which is rather unsatisfying. Is there any way to make zarafa use the subcleanup routine? Any help is much appreciated.

• How can I search for Gmail conversations that have more than one e-mail? [closed]

  I previously used a service that sent me Slashdot articles as individual e-mails. All I had to do was give them the RSS url, and they handled the rest. On the Gmail side, I simply made a filter, labeling these e-mails as "News". Once I stopped using the service, I realized that I had more than 20,000 such e-mails stockpiled. While I could delete all "News" e-mails, there are some that I've forwarded to friends, sometimes receiving multiple replies. These conversations are valuable - I would like to keep them. As far as I can tell, there's no way to search for conversations that have more than one e-mail in the thread. Up until now, I've been deleting them page by page, carefully de-selecting the conversations that have more than one e-mail; however, it will take far too much time to complete. Is there an easier way that I'm missing? Thanks.

• Problem with Ctrl key on a hp 2510p

  I have a tricky problem with my corporate Compaq hp 2510p, the ctrl key is not working properly at all times. I belive that it is hooked in some filter chain that processes certain ctrl+[key] combinations which is very annoying. I would like some pointers on how to proceed when analysing what application/setup can can cause this kind of keyboard filtering to happen. Anyway some more background info: Ctrl works together with X, C, V. Both in editors and terminals (Ctrl-C, Z etc) but Ctrl-Shift-Esc and Ctrl-Alt-Del does not work. Very annoying so my only option for logging in us using HP's security app. Shift-Arrow works for selecting text, but not Ctrl-shift arrow to select word by word, but Ctrl-Arrow works when moving the caret word by word. Now the strange thing is that everything works ok with an external USB keyboard so it might be the driver, but still, google yields 0 when searching for the problem description. I have vm-ware player installed (but not running it), HP Protect Tools installed, if any of these could affect the keyboard driver.

• Strange File-Server I/O Spikes - What Is Causing This?

  I am currently having a problem with a small Linux server that is providing file-sharing services to four Windows 7 32-bit clients. The server is an AMD PhenomX3 with two Western Digital 10EADS (1TB) drives, attached to a Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 mainboard and running Ubuntu Server 10.04.1 LTS. The client machines are taking an extremely long time to access/transfer data on the file server. Applications often become non-responsive while trying to open files located remotely, or one program attempting to open a file but having to wait will prevent other software from accessing network resources at all. Other examples include one image taking 20 seconds or more to open, and in one instance a user waited 110 seconds for Microsoft Word 2007 to save a document. I had initially thought the problem was network-related, but this appears not to be the case. All cables and switches have been tested (one cable was replaced) for verification. This was additionally confirmed when closing down all client machines and rebooting the server resulted in the hard-drive light staying on solid during the startup process. For the first 15 minutes during boot, logon and after logging on (with no client machines attached), the system displayed a load average of 4 or higher. Symptoms included waiting several minutes for the logon prompt to appear, and then several minutes for the password prompt to appear after typing in a user name. After logon, it also took upwards of 45 seconds for the 'smartctl' man page to appear after the command 'man smartctl' was issued. After 15 minutes of this behaviour, the load average dropped to around 0.02 and the machine behaved normally. I have also considered that the problem is hard-drive-related, however diagnostic programs reveal no drive problems. Western Digital DLG, Spinrite and SMARTUDM show no abnormal characteristics - the drives are in perfect health as far as the hardware is concerned. I have thus far been completely unable to track down the cause of this problem, so any help is greatly appreciated. • Cannot install wireless lan service on windows 2012 RTM offline

  I'm having trouble installing the wireless lan service offline with a fresh installed windows 2012 server RTM. I tried "install-windowsfeature wireless-networking" in the non-gui mode and using the server manager in the gui mode to enable the wireless lan service, but both of them show a "failure configuring windows updates" message after the installation restarted the system. I checked the event log and I think messages about "The WLAN Autoconfig service depends on the following service: nativewifip. This service might not be installed" are the source of the issue. Google shows it is a service called "native wifi filter", but I cannot find anywhere to install that service. I don't have a Ethernet adapter for that computer, so have to install everything offline before the wifi's working.

• Changing the prompt in telnet

  With some help from people on here, I was able to set a custom prompt in an ssh session (thanks!). Now I need to do the same in telnet, but I'm not sure of what syntax I could use for that. Basically the telnet prompt is just a > character, I need to modify it to something I can more reliably detect in automation jobs. Hope this makes sense. • Danger in running a proxy server? [closed]

  I currently have a home server that I'm using to learn more and more about servers. There's also the advantage of being able to run things like a Minecraft server (Yeah!). I recently installed and setup a proxy service known as Squid. The main reason was so that no matter where I was, I would be able to access sites without dealing with any network content filter (like at schools). I wanted to make this public but I had second thoughts on it. I thought last night that if people were using my proxy, couldn't they access illegal materials with it? What if someone used my proxy to download copyright material? Or launched an attack on another site via my proxy? What if someone actually looked up child pornography through the proxy? My question is, am I liable for what people use my proxy for? If someone does an illegal act and it leads to my proxy server, could I be held accountable for the actions done?

• Is there a program that will show a tree of the differences in two file trees?

  In windows I manually back up from time to time by formatting my external drive and copying the contents of my data partition over. Inevitably there is a difference in the number and size of the files copied because of system files, etc. Is there a program that would diff two directories recursively and compile the differences into a nice GUI tree that I could peruse (preferably filter) to ensure that everything I want made it over to the drive? It should only show files that are not in both directories. (Also, please ignore the inadequacy of my backup solution)

  I've got access to my "own" FreeBSD jail. The jail has only basic, unconfigured system, but I have full access to FreeBSD ports, and (jail)root too. Now I need to setup my jail as IMAP/MTA. The question: What packages are EASIEST for config and later administration, (the simplest possible setup, with the minimum needed configuration) when: i haven't any preferences (don't know any yet) my (one) domain is managed by ISP, so don't need DNS need only IMAP for few users (up to 20 mailboxes) need secure transport layer (IMAPS/993) password auth, no LDAP, no kerberos, nor databases, nothing like fancy things... need easy-setup easy-admin MTA, with simplest possible password SMTP auth, (again no LDAP, nor DB), secure transport layer but would be nice have virus-scan and some anti-spam protection So, what ports I should install for MTA and IMAP? MTA (Sendmail, Postfix, Exim)? antivirus (ClamAV) antispam??? IMAP(S), (Dovecot, Courier) when the main criteria are: easy setup, and easy administration. When I googled I found only complicated setups for thousands of users with LDAP, databases and so on - too big-caliber for my small (easy?) needs. Any pointer to an easy howto is very welcomed.

• Windows PC's Intermittant Network faults.

  Hello everyone, im running into some issues with our client PC's (windows xp sp3 systems). this morning we ran into some problems with PC's not connecting to internal / external systems intermittantly. this would manifest as a problem connecting to any service, email, web, backoffice database systems etc. given a random amount of time be it a few minutes etc the problem would disapear and the pc would carry on as normal, some systems however have not been able to connect to certain sytems since the problem initally happened. im hoping for some suggestions / network diag advice really to help me locate the cause of this problem. all the clients are windows xp, connecting to a domain controller that is windows 2003 std this server also acts as a DNS server for us. we also have websense 7.0.1 installed on it to filter traffic.

• Mail Server using Postfix

  I have currently set up my web application on Amazon EC2 server. As a well known fact sending email from EC2 has a problem. As a cheap and long lasting solution instead of using "authsmtp" is it possible to rent a server and use it as a Mail Server? I am currently looking for cheap hosting which will give me root access so that it can be configured and used as a relayhost. I am curently using Postfix as MTA. Has any one implemented this before? I am curious about its feasibility of this solution. I guess common requirements are: 1: Dedicated IP which is not black listed. 2: Open relay( open to my Server only) Any Tips for Header configurations to keep the mails out of spam folder. This is like exactly cloning authsmtp for personal use. Any suggestions for other Mail Server software instead of Postfix? Another problem is Reverse DNS for this server. Should PTR entry be present if a server is used as a relayhost?

  Here is the scenario: On column A each cell has random text within it (names, address, account numbers, etc). Column A extends down to over 40 thousand rows. On column B I have a list of (account) numbers. Column B extends down to about 5 thousand rows. I need to filter column A to show only the rows that contain the account numbers that are part of column B. Neither column A nor B are in any specific order. • Looking for a way execute a task on all files in a directory (recursively) on Windows

  I have a huge number of mp4 video files that needs to have a volume boost. I need a way to execute a ffmpeg audio filter on all files in a specified base directory (and in subdirectories as well). My problem is that I'm working on a Windows computer and I have no knowledge of its shell syntax. I would like to do the equivalent of what this bash script does : TARGET_FILES=$(find /path/to/dir -type f -name *.mp4) for f in $TARGET_FILES do ffmpeg -i $f -af 'volume=4.0' output.$f done I spent quite some time this afternoon looking for a solution but the recursive nature of what I need (that is so simple with find!) isn't too clear. • How do you create a SQL query in Excel 2007 with a dynamic date range?

  I am trying to create a reporting spreadsheet that can print reports for a given time period. The query below works, but when I try to use a "?" parameter in place of the date, I get an error after selecting a cell containing my date. If I use single quotes ('?') I get a conversion from string to date/time failure, if I don't (?) I get a syntax error near @p1. Eventually I will need either a start and end date or a formula adding a month or shift to the starting date/time to filter the data down to important information. The query was built in Microsoft Query. • Only receiving one document at a time from new web server.

  We're trying to move our internal ticketing system from a Microsoft Small Business Server in the server closet to a Rackspace Cloud Server. The install is Fedora 11 LAMP, and should be default out of the box, except for the vhosts appended to the bottom of the httpd.conf. The new server is suffering from crippling load times, and watching the page load in Firebug it's easy to see the problem occurring, but I can't figure out the cause. Here is the [old server] (http://rkuykendall.com/uploads/old.server.png). I was expecting something like this, but a little slower since it was no longer hosted locally. Instead, the [new server] (http://rkuykendall.com/uploads/new.server.png) appears to only serve one file at a time. I talked to some guys on Freenode #httpd with no luck. • VPS with multiple domains, can EXIM send mail from a different domain?

  I building a site for a client on a VPS running CentOS 5.5 with cPanel WMH 11.28.60. The original domain is XXXXXinvestmenttrust.com. He has about a dozen domains on this server. The site I am building will have confirmation emails as well as provide users to anonymize their email address (like craigslist) I set up email piping to forward emails, but they are all being trapped in the spam folder. A close look at the headers, the emails appear to be comming from [email protected] rather than the actual domain. The IP has a rating of Neutral on www.senderbase.com. I believe it is the conflicting information in the header (the fields set by me, specify the actual domain where the headers put in place by EXIM specify to name of the server) Somewhere I read about SPF & MX entries can fix this, but I have been unable to figure out how. Also, All of the domains use the same IP, and the other websites do not send emails. So I could possibly make the domain in question, the primary (where all emails are sent from that domain by default) Is that possible?

• EC2 custom topology

  Is there any way to create a desired topology of EC2 instances? For example, can I create a 3 node topology of nodes A, B, C where C gets the public IP address and B and A are connected to it. Something like: Internet <-- C <-- B <-- A B and A only get private IP addresses and there is no way for the traffic to reach A before hitting B and C. This means I can install whatever I want to install on C and B to filter, cache etc. I'm going through EC2 documentation but so far I have not seen anything that talks about it. I will really appreciate if anyone knows how to do this on EC2

• git - recover deleted files from a prior commit

  I accidentally deleted some files in a prior commit and would like to recover them. How can I do this? I ran this and found exactly what I was looking for: git whatchanged --diff-filter=D At the time I made the commit, I should have committed the new/changed files only and ran a reset --hard then to recover the missing files. I have about 100 files that I need to restore. I don't want to do a straight revert as that will also undo the changes in that commit. Any ideas?

  currently we ran into some issues with our mail server setup. im preparing a list of actions that we should enforce and use in order to maintain a proper email solution within our company. we have around 80 exchange users, and send mass emails out almost on a monthly bases to 20,000 + customers each time.. the checklist i currently have: 1) mcafee mxlogic 'cloud' anti-spam functionality for incoming message. 2) antivirus on each computer in company 3) antivirus on exchange and DNS servers 4) setup SPF record 5) setup DKIM 6) setup domainkey 7) setup senderID 8) submit spf to microsoft, yahoo, etc. for 'whitelist' purposes. 9) configure size limits for messages in exchange to safe numbers 10) i have 2 outside IPs for my email server, incase one gets blacklisted, switch to the backup. 11) my internet site rests on a different ip than the mail server 12) all mass emails for company sent through 3rd party company (listtrak.com) 13) setup domain alias, media, enews, and bounce for the 3rd party mass mail software. 14) verify the setup using [email protected] 15) configure group policy and our opendns.org account to prevent unwanted actions and website viewing mass emails: 1) schedule them to send different amounts at different times (1,000 at 10am, 1,000 at 4pm, 1,000 10am next day).. 2) setup user prefences, decide what they want to receive ect. ( there interests) 3) send a more steady flow of email, maybe 100 a week with top new products instead of 20,000k every other month.. if anyone has suggestions or additions/subtractions to this checklist they are greatly appreciated. thank you

• Slideshow positioning problem

  I have a javascript slideshow that works perfectly on Windows 7, Firefox, Chrome, IE 8+ (I don't have the resources to check 6 or 7) and Opera. But I've been told that when on xp with IE 7 the slidshow gets thrown off screen to the right. What could my issue be? • What is the easiest way to apply database functionality into my daily life?

  let me try to explain it by listing some of the things I want to do: Submit random thoughts, notes, facts, and to-do tasks of any sort and at any time. Tag each of these submissions freely. Manage these tags centrally. Associate meta-data with submissions and tags. Search, filter, and sort submissions. I want lots of power here. Display views of submissions (including within searches) in a hierarchy. Create said hierarchies easily out by ordering relevant tags. I'm thinking towards some kind of desktop program that allows me to quickly do all of these things. A web service could also work, too, but it will need offline capabilities. I don't want to have to pay for this, if that's possible. Also, as I know regex and SQL, I wouldn't mind solutions involving the use of either.

• How to detect an iPhone connecting a network?

  I've noticed through watching Wireshark that when an iPhone connects to a wifi network, it sends out a few IGMP/MDNS packets to 224.0.0.251 (LAN broadcast, I think). Is there any easy way to watch for these packets and then either run a script or send an event? Or, is the best way to just run a packet sniffer? Any simple ones that can send events or execute curl commands when a filter is triggered? When I run nc -u -l 5353 I get: My-Name-iPhonelocal??? x???)?? ??cc^C Can I do something like: nc -u -l 5353 | grep iPhonelocal | execute command...

• Reducing volume of an audio device on windows 7

  I have a USB headset with a very loud amplifier, but low granularity in its gain control. In order to get comfortable audio, I have to reduce the individual application levels in the mixer to '1', and the master mixer to around '10'. Of course, new applications start out at '10', and immediately blast out my ears. Is there a way to add a filter to cut down the volume some so I can get better control of it? That is, reduce the volume of '100' so I can work within a reasonable range.

• Is it possible to remove buzzing from headphones which occurs only when scrolling / window redrawing?

  Whenever a lot of drawing is happening on my laptop a buzzing noise is emitted by the sound hardware, which is clearly audible with headphones (similar to this question or this one). I've tried both the headphone jack on the laptop itself, and also on the dock. I've used other laptops and they all seem to have similar problems here, which leads me to believe this is more a function of relatively low quality laptop sound hardware than any fault with the headphones or this laptop in particular. I'm curious if there's some piece of hardware I might use to eliminate the buzzing. For instance, would an external USB sound device fix the problem or is it likely subject to the same kinds of issues? Would a simple filter/choke on the headphone cord itself possibly help? Or is one simply stuck with poor quality audio from laptops period?

• Mirror network packets from WiFi to Ethernet in an ASUS Router RT N53

  I have an ASUS RT N53 router, running the default firmware (Linux 2.6.22 with busybox and uclibc). I need to capture data packets from some Wi-Fi devices I have connected to that router (iPad and some smartphones), but the router is not forwarding any package coming from Wi-Fi devices to the Ethernet Ports. Any idea how can I proceed? Available tools in the router are iptables (no tee option, though), ebtables, brctl...
