• Browsers hang when loading web pages

  HP Laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2. Problem affects IE8 and Firefox. When attempting to browse most web sites, browser loads web site title in browser's title bar, then displays "Waiting for site url" and never completes loading the page. Able to connect to www.google.com with no problems. Unable to connect to www.carbonwy.com, www.wsj.com, www.cnn.com, www.microsoft.com, etc. Other PCs on same subnet are all able to connect to these sites without any problem. nslookup resolves all of these sites without any problem, so DNS does not appear to be the problem. Windows Firewall is disabled. Norton 360 was previously installed but has been uninstalled. No other firewall software is installed. IE8 Protected Mode is off. IE8 advanced settings have been reset. IE8 user settings have been reset. After reset, IE8 tries to connect to http://hp-laptop.aol.com and go.microsoft.com but same symptoms persist. Title bar loads, then nothing. System has been restarted numerous times. Running out of ideas. Please help!

• Dual Monitor support rdp 7 to win 7 on esxi

  I am trying to RDP from a Windows 7 Professional dual monitor physical machine to a Windows 7 Professional VM hosted on esxi 4.0. I can get the spanning option to work to both monitors, but I have tried 3 different methods of connecting but have not been able to use true multiple monitors. At different times, I tried checking the "use all monitors" option, command line mstsc /multimon and added the line use multimon:i:1 to the .rdp file. None of these worked. Any ideas? The physical machine can connect to other Windows 7 physical machines with true multi monitor access. I also have the same issue when going from a 32bit RC1 machine to a Windows 7 Professional x64, but not when going in the reverse direction. • Hooks...exactly what they are

  I have seen hooks in Kohana PHP framework, and they work as some sort of a callback function triggered by a certain event (Kohana's events that is, some sort of method overloading). I have seen hooks in Wordpress, and I don't know what they are or how to use them (just saw them yesterday). I'm looking for events in "non-frameworked" php, I cannot find ones. Do hooks work only in an "event-based" environment? What are they anyway (in general, not just in PHP)? What are they good for if not in an "event-based" environment.

• How to tackle dell support system? [closed]

  We have purchased a Dell Optiplex 9010 SSFV for our organization's work. Since the first installation two of the USB keyboard keys were not working properly. I had to press those keys two times simultaneously, on first time keys did not work and for for second time it printed two characters (as it were buffering first character.) Two keys that were not working properly: Hexangrave (Below the ESC key: `) Double Quotes (Left the enter key ") We registered our complaint with DELL and they suggested (with some hard to understand and weird ENGLISH accent) some test and tricks, such as switching to different ports, checking keyboard on different PC, and it worked well with diff. PC(with Windows 7 Home Premium installed). It was clear that it is an OS fault, hence they suggested to re-install OS. Problem began here, we have a project on the run and currently a video editing project setup on our system, so can't re-install system in hurry and also DELL persons were not providing any other solution such as updating keyboard driver, etc. Arguments I am a Software Engg. and don't think it is a feasible solution to re-install entire system for simple problems. This prob is coming since the fresh system installation, so I don't think it will solve the problem. Finally, I had to find solution myself and got it here, now I want to show my disappointment to dell persons or at least tell them that they should improve there support system to not advice to re-install entire system for that simple problems. Notes We have purchased 5 years NEXT business day support from DELL for around 8000 INR (Not for that kind of solutions from DELL). So can anyone tell me how to tackle dell support system officially, so that they will pay more attention in near future. Thanks

• I keep losing wireless connection

  I have a WRT54GL v1.1 wireless router and a WUSB54G v4 wireless adapter, both made by Linksys. The router is in the living room by the TV and the my computer is in the bedroom. My ISP is Brighthouse. Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.40GHz 36 °C Conroe 65nm Technology RAM 3.00GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 333MHz (5-4-4-14) Motherboard eMachines EMCP73VT-PM (CPU 1) 26 °C Graphics ASUS VS247 (1920x1080@60Hz) 767MB GeForce GTX 460 (nVidia) 43 °C Hard Drives 466GB Seagate ST350041 8AS SCSI Disk Device (SATA) 35 °C Optical Drives HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH41N SCSI CdRom Device Audio High Definition Audio Device The problem is that my Internet connection will work fine for 15 minutes or so. Then the data will just stop flowing. Windows says I am still connected, and the systray icon still shows five bars. But Comodo Firewall will stop showing up and down traffic, and another of my systray applications complains about a lack of connection. What I usually do is either disconnect from the network manually, or unplug and re-plug the USB adapter. At which point the connection will work properly for another 15 minutes. I've tried unplugging my router for 30 seconds and letting it reboot. I've also tried looking for a newer driver for my adapter but I seem to have the latest version 3.1.3.0. This is a recent problem starting about a week ago. For the previous several months things were working just fine. I haven't made any changes to my system that I am aware of. The only thing I did was open my case to blow the dust out of it, then put everything back together. How do I fix this issue?

• Windows 7 Not Recognizing Camera Nor iPhone as Camera

  I've been struggling with this one for a few days. I've recently upgraded an older computer to Windows 7 Home Premium. Neither my digital camera (A Canon SD1200IS) nor iPhone are ever detected as cameras, nor ever show up as accessable in Explorer. With the Canon camera, no driver is required. It's supposed to work with the default Windows 7 drivers. However, in the Control Panel's Device Manager, I'm always seeing a yellow icon next to the "Canon Digital Camera" device. I've uninstalled the device and let Windows attempt to reinstall, but it can never find a driver to install. With the iPhone, it's very similar. One big difference, though, is that iTunes can see the iPhone and back it up, etc. However, again when I go to the Device Manager, there's a yellow icon next to the iPhone. I've uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled, rebooted, deleted drivers, and let Window try to reinstall the driver, but it can never find the driver. So there seems to be some correlation that my machine can't detect cameras properly, and that it might be even a lower-level type of driver I'm struggling with. I know that USB however, does work, because I have have an external drive hooked into the machine. I've gone through the web and tried two hours worth of fixes, without success. I feel like if I can get the Canon camera detected, then the iPhone will be on it's way to being fixed too. BTW, I couldn't really find anything of use in the Event viewer. Any and all suggestions welcome.

• How can I restore my original IME Romaji input settings?

  the this one, Japanese IME on Windows: switch back to romaji input method (3) did not help. The problem seems the same. My Vista home premium version PC, I had been using Microsoft IME to use English and Japanese input using romaji henkan for a long time. One day, all of a sudden, first when I started up the PC, it has cap lock indicator ON. So, I press SHIFT key, CAP lock indicator is off!(This I have to do every morning.) Now when I want to type romaji input to change to Japanese, I switch EN English (United States) to "JP Japanese (Japan) and select input to hiragana input. It worked until that day. But now when I set to input romaji for hiragana as I used to do and start typing, then it shows Japanese hiragana directly on the display just as keyboard setting as Japanese ???109???????? as shown in Wikipedia JIS keyboard. And I cannot show hiragana as I wanted ( I can convert to Kanji OK) etc. by hitting space key. But its key board arrangement is what I never learned. Other thing I found is when I hit "`" key, it switches between hiragana and alphabet. When I see Control panel setting it is the same setting as I have seen. Please suggest me a solution to get the original setting for IME input mode as I used to do. John K.

  Hi, I am required to work on a php project that requires the database to cater to multiple users. Generally, the idea is similar to what they have for carbonmade or basecamp, or even wordpress mu. They cater to multiple users, whom are also owners of their accounts. And if they were to cancel/terminate their account, anything on the pages/database would be removed. I am not quite sure how should I design the database? Should it be: separate tables for individual user account separate databases for individual user account or otherwise? • Why is windows 7 rejecting my key?

  I'm extremely confused. I have a genuine key and CD (I can take photos) and I am trying to install windows on my new tower. I believe this would be the 3rd PC i installed it (old, laptop now new tower). However i did change the HDD once but i doubt windows would think its a different computer bc of that. After going through phone activation it said i installed it on to many pcs..... i'm extremely confused. I'll be happy to deactivate it off my old tower if i knew how. I already grabbed all the files off of it. I tried to look up the amount of boxes i can install windows home premium on and found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions What stuck out was this Maximum physical CPUs supported[40] 1 1 1 2 2 2 My new tower has 4cores (its the intel i7) but has two threads each so it sees 8. Does that have anything to do with this? But apparently ultimate supports '2'. I'm sure windows support more than 2 cpus so... what gives? Actually its physically one CPU so i guess the number of cores doesn't matter? Why is windows 7 rejecting my key?

• Enabling AHCI in BIOS for SSD

  I am trying to help a friend with a desktop upgrade. It is an old machine with an Intel DG31 main board. The board has 1 IDE port to which a DVD-ROM drive is connected, and 2 SATA ports. 1 SATA port had a hard drive with XP on it. I have made that the secondary drive now and wiped the OS as requested, so it is just for data. The new SSD has been installed but I read that for best results one must enable AHCI in the BIOS? So I checked and in the BIOS there is a SATA Mode setting with 2 options - Native and Legacy. I think Native means AHCI? After setting to Native, I installed Windows 7 Home Premium and all the latest drivers from Intel's website and all Windows Updates. Now when I check Device Manager I see this: Also Microsoft says HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci\Start and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV\Start should have value 0 for AHCI but I see that the value is 3 for both. So does this mean that Native mode is not AHCI? Or Windows 7 ignored BIOS setting and installed in IDE mode, maybe because both cables are present? Please help me enable AHCI on this system. Thanks!

• Problems installing Adobe Premiere Elements 8 Content features

  I recently purchased Adobe Photoshop & Premiere Elements 8. Photoshop Elements 8 installed fine, along with the additional material available via internet download. Premiere Elements 8 installed ok from the DVD. During the Premiere Elements 8 startup process the following message appears: A reduced set of content (Instant Movie Themes, Title and Menu Templates,etc) has been installed. To install the full content set, please insert your Content DVD and run Setup.exe. If you do not have a Content DVD please visit http://www.adobe.com/go/pre_additional_downloads to download the content installer. Since I didn't have the Content DVD, I did the download, which took nearly 12 hours. The extract appeared to complete at 100%, but then immediately gave the error message "A problem occurred while extracting some files. Check available space on your computer and the write privileges on the destination folder." Why would it show this error message if it had completed the extract process 100%? What step(s) do I take now to have Content installed? Do I need to go thru the 12 hour download again or, hopefully, is there something I can do that will make it unnecessary to download again?

• Why do I have 55 local area connections in ipconfig?

  Windows Vista Home Premium. I should mention that I am having no problem whatever getting an internet connection. When I type "ipconfig" in the console, I get (55!) messages of 3 lines each, listing a ton of disconnected network connections. My PC only has one network card. Each message looks like this: Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 55: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : These don't cause a major problem; they make it a pain, though, to fish upward and find my IP address. How can I get rid of them? Edit: Actually, a few connection numbers are randomly missing from the sequence; so, it's really more like 30 or 40 connection messages, rather than all 55. Not sure why that is, either.

• Windows 7 machine, can't connect remotely until after ping

  I have a Windows 7 (Home Premium) machine that doubles as a media centre and subversion server. There's a couple of problems with this setup, when connecting to the server from an XP (SP3) machine: Firstly, the machine won't respond to it's machine name until after it's IP address has been pinged.   A company I work with recently replaced their old server and gave it to me. Their old server is a Dell PowerEdge 2600. I've been playing with the machine and even installed Windows Server 2008 on it...and it seems to run it pretty well. Here are the specs for the two machines: Dev Machine: AMD Athlon64 3000+ 2.38 GHz (overclocked from 1.8GHz [@ 280x8.5] - it is stable-ish) Memory (RAM): 1x1GB OCZ PC3200 (Dual-Channel) 300GB HD OS: Windows XP Pro (32bit) SuperPi 1M digit test: 40 seconds Dell PowerEdge 2600 Server: Intel Xeon CPU 2.8GHz 2.8GHz Memory (RAM): 512MBx2 (PC2700, not dual channel) 68GB HD (RAID 5) OS: Windows Server 2000 (32bit) SuperPi 1M digit test: 56 seconds [using 1 processor] (Themes and Aero-Flass UI turned off, of course) I use my computer to regularly run Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS5, Flash CS5, 5 browsers (Chrome, FF, IE, Safari, Opera), iTunes, Visual Studio 2010, and Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 [sometimes simultaneously :-) ]. The SuperPi test has my dev machine coming in about 30% faster than the Server machine...though this could be due to the server running "Vista" with background processes prioritized. Do you think it would be realistic/advantageous for me to move from my dev machine to the Dell PowerEdge 2600? Is it possible to install additional DVD drives/burners on the server? Can I install my internal 300 GB hard drive on the server? Can I add some USB 2.0 ports? Note: I'll probably install Win XP Pro on the dev machine if I do switch. If not, are there any creative and useful way for me to take advantage of this server (with the goal of faster computing)?

• Facebook Connect and Hash Password Encryption

  I'm trying to integrate a Zen Cart site with Facebook Connect. So far, I've been able to get Zen Cart to recognize that the user has a facebook account and is logged in, but that's it. True authentication into Zen Cart eludes me because I can't figure out where a password could be stored and how to get it to Zen Cart to be compared with the password hash. I know Facebook Connect has been implemented with webapps that have such passwords like wordpress, so I know there must be a way to do it. Is the password stored in a cookie? In the Facebook application itself? Any help would be appreciated, even if it's just a place to start searching.

  I am looking for a home backup solution for my single Windows 7 (Home Premium) PC. I have about 500GB of data to backup. I would like to spend less than GBP 300 on the solution. I don't see the need to backup the whole PC, rather specific folder branches (iTunes, photos, documents, Outlook files, user folders such as desktop, favorites etc). I would like a solution that enables me to maintain backups in two separate physical locations (e.g. home and work). To facilitate this I am imagining a storage unit with slots for two removable drives, along with three separate drives. At any one time two of the drives will be being backed up to in the storage unit. The third will be located at my work. Periodically I will take one of the drives into work and leave it there, then bring the drive that was there back home, and plug it into the storage unit. It will then be backed up along with the other drive that was left in the storage unit. This approach should cover scenarios such as virus attack and fire or theft from one location. Thoughts and comments on the sanity of this approach please...

To facilitate this I am imagining a storage unit with slots for two removable drives, along with three separate drives. At any one time two of the drives will be being backed up to in the storage unit. The third will be located at my work. Periodically I will take one of the drives into work and leave it there, then bring the drive that was there back home, and plug it into the storage unit. It will then be backed up along with the other drive that was left in the storage unit. This approach should cover scenarios such as virus attack and fire or theft from one location. Thoughts and comments on the sanity of this approach please...

• Object Not found - Apache Rewrite issue

  I'm pretty new to setting up apache locally with xampp. I'm trying to develop locally with xampp (Ubuntu 11.04) linux 1.7.4 for a Drupal Site. I've actually git pulled an exact copy of this drupal site from another testing server hosted at MediaTemple. Issue I'll visit my local development environment virtualhost (http://bbk.loc) and the front page renders correctly with no errors from drupal or apache. The issue is the subsequent pages don't return an "Object not found" Error from apache. What is more bizarre is when I add various query strings and the pages are found (like http://bbk.loc?p=user). • [URGENT HELP PLEASE]USB Flash Drive Problem!

  Here it goes. My friend saved by his works into my flash drive which was detectable/openable but ... The very next day, the drive wouldn't show up in My Computer and Windows gave him error code 43 (Unknown device). I been searching for the next few hours to find a solution as the works inside is important to him. I know he should back up his files but let's not go there. So .... I tried others few systems that once detected his flash drive but the problem still persisted. I don't know whether or not his flash drive is damaged but when plug/un-plugging, there are still sounds coming out though. Tried solutions: [On Vista Home Premium/HIS COME]Uninstalled -- Restarted com -- Re-installed (ERROR 43) [Windows 7/MY COM] Uninstalled --- Restarted com --- Can't install (ERROR 43) It seems that my com (Windows 7) had the lastest drivers already but still can't detect it. Its a Kingston DataTraveller 101 (DT101) 8GB. Could unplugging the flash drive without clicking "Safely Remove Hardware" is the problem? Kindly provide some help. Thank you all.
