  • How to index tables and pictures in Word so you can get a list of them automatically ?

    I'm writing one of those things where you have to provide a list of all the tables and pictures at the beginning of the text. I know how to insert caption for a picture, but I'm not sure as to how can I do that for a table or some miscellaus object, in a way that I can get a list of them all afterwards ? Can anyone give a hint or two ? Usually I do these things manually, but this document is getting big.

  • How to isolate Mac OS X installers (e.g. Mountain Lion, Mavericks)?

    I've upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion before. Now, I'm going to Mavericks. I'm tired of downloading these big installers every time I have to use them. The installers are deleted after using them as far as my experience is concerned. Where can I find these installers after downloading them from the App Store so that I can copy them and use them in the future? Looking up over the internet did not help.

    :) I know I can base on tutorials that I can find on net, but there are confusing, and I know there are some of Postgres gurus here. My hardware: 2x Intel Xeon E5645 2,40 GHz / 32 GB of RAM / 2xSAS for pg_xlog (RAID1) + 3x2 SAS for rest (RAID10) + BBU and 512 MB of cache. It's gonna be used for one web project, with some big (relative term :P) tables (20mil+ of records). Server is dedicated to Posgtres service. I need help with configuring it - work_mem, effective_cache_size etc.

  • Where is the best place to label a server?

    There isn't much room on server chassis and I'm wondering where a label with the servers name should go? Is there any other information in addition to the name that should go on the label? Does it make sense to label each hard drive in a server or is that not necessary? There certainly is overkill, when I worked at Big Blue labeling was a huge source of bureaucracy, even a projector needed to be labelled and have it's whereabouts routinely reported.

    When I'm logged into our Windows Server 2003 server, I don't see any ODBC Data Sources, but when a different user logs in (who doesn't have Administrative rights), they have a big list of ODBC Data Sources. Are ODBC Data Sources set on a per-user basis? How come the Administrator can't see user's ODBC Data Sources?

    How do one proceed if I want to have 3 Operating Systems: Windows 7, Ubuntu, Debian plus a swap partion, all in all 4 partitions? Lets say I have 2 disks, each 640 GB and make room - 300 GB for Windows 7, 160 GB Ubuntu, 160 GB Debian and the rest for swap 20 GB. Where do I make these partitions, do I first make one big raid array 1 in BIOS and then partition when Windows 7 is installed or do I already in BIOS make these 4 partitions?

The first time there is a big margin at the top. Is this a weird bug of Google Chrome or is there anything to do with css to prevent this ?

  • Layer 3 Protocol only in wireshark

    I have a simple question: is there any way in wireshark to avoid resolution of protocol besides the protocol of layer 3 ? For example, in the column protocol, instead of showing http, I want it to show TCP or it's value (6). I can see in menu analyse / enabled protocols we can disable one by one, but for very big traces with lots of differente protocols like "eDonkey" "QUAKE" etc, it's costs a lot of time...

  • SSD installed but system reserved drive is visible, how to fix?

    I've just installed an SSD as primary boot drive. During install, a system reserved partition was allocated (not very big) around 100MB. Problem is the drive is visible in explorer and its assigned to D: Anyone else had this problem, and is there a way to somehow hide that drive from explorer, and also get back the drive letter assignment?     Hi, I've taken some sample code from http://sweux.com/blogs/smoura/index.php/wpf/2009/06/15/wpf-toolkit-datagrid-part-iv-templatecolumns-and-row-grouping/ that provides grouping of data in a WPF DataGrid. I'm modifying the example to use a DataTable instead of a Collection of entities. My problem is in translating a binding declaration {Binding Parent.IsExpanded}, which works fine where Parent is a reference to an entity that has the IsExpanded attribute, to something that will work for my weakly typed DataTable, where Parent is the name of a column and references another DataRow in the same DataTable. I've tried declarations like {Binding Parent.Items[IsExpanded]} and {Binding Parent("IsExpanded")} but none of these seem to work. How can I create a binding to the IsExpanded column of the DataRow Parent in my DataTable? Thanks in advance, Dave

    Hey, I would like to make an program that acts like a big filter for stocks. To do so, I need to have real-time (or delayed) quotes from the market. I started getting stock quotes by requesting pages from yahoo, accordingand parsing the html to the ticker, and parsing the html. I was wondering how to do this requesting and parsing html. Is there some way I can request only the stock quotes and its info? I know some applications do this, and I am very curious how they do it, because requesting web pages and parsing them is very time-consuming. Thanks, Dave

    Hi Guys I've been working as a developer for the past 4 years, with the 4 years previous to that studying software development in college. In my 4 years in the industry I've done some work in VB6 (which was a joke), but most of it has been in C#/ASP.NET. During this time, I've moved from an "object-aware" procedural paradigm to an object-oriented paradigm. Lately I've been curious about other programming paradigms out there, so I thought I'd ask other developers their opinions on the similarities & differences between these paradigms, specifically to OOP?   • How Do You Insert Large Blobs Into Oracle 10G Using System.Data.OracleClient?

    Trying to insert 315K Gif files into an Oracle 10g database. Everytime I get this error "ora-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested" whe I run the stored procedure. It appears that there is a 32K limit if I use a stored procedure. I read online that this does not apply if you are doing a direct insert, but I do not know how to create the insert string for a Byte Array. This is a thick client running on the server so not worried about SQL Injection attacks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. FYI, code in vb.net. Thanks, Dave

Final Update After listening to Dave, I finally made it by overloading both / and & to return the quotient and the remainder so thanks a lot everyone for your help and especially you Dave for your great idea!   • WPF DataGrid default column types

    Hi, I'm using a DataGrid to display 2 possible types of DataRow in a DataTable. One type has the column Parent = NULL and the other has Parent set to another DataRow in the same DataTable. The list of column in the DataTable is always different, so explicitly describing each column is not possible. I want to display a UserControl in every cell of the Parent = DataRow rows, and default Text / Check boxes for the Parent = NULL rows. My first strategy is to try and set the default Column type for all automatically generated columns to be a DataGridTemplateColumn, regardless of datatype, so that I can use styles to then use either my UserControl or CheckBox or TextBox where required. How can I do this? More importantly, though, is there a better strategy than this? Cheers, Dave

    How do I transpose rows and columns in Access 2003? I have a multiple tables that I need to do this on. (I've reworded my question because feedback tells me it was confusing how I originally stated it.) Each table has 30 fields and 20 records. Lets say my fields are Name, Weight, Zip Code, Quality4, Quality5, Quality6 through Quality30 which is favorite movie. Let's say the records each describe a person. The people are Alice, Betty, Chuck, Dave, Edward etc through Tommy..
