  Hello, .NET 4.0 I am looking for the easiest way to generate a Word document on our server. Limitations : Server side I don't want to install word on the server Data source is XML I tried to generate a DOCX with XSLT which is fast and easy but the only way I could find to validate the generated document is to open it with Word and the only error I get when the document is not valid is "Error while opening document". Not very useful. Any ideas? Thanks, Alex

  Which of the two methods of dta transfer trasfers data at a faster rate for smartphones and tablets? Standard WIFI, or MicroSD Cards? I wonder if it would be actually faster to access data on external storage then it would be to have the MicroSD card in my smartphone or tablet. Currently I have a class 10 32GB MicroSD card in my cell phone. I am looking to get the new Google Nexus tablet but it does not offer expandable internal storage. I wonder if that's really a detriment; because if WIFI is faster than MicroSD, then it would matter almost none at all that you couldn't expand the storage internally. If the case is that WIFI is faster, and people caught onto this, then people could save a lot of money on lower memory ipads/iphones/ipods, tablets, and smartphones!

  I'm struggling to get a handle on Meteor deps, in order to be specific my use case is: 2) When collection is changed, I want to run a jQuery function on the client side I think deps are what I'm looking for, but at the moment I have only just used: Template.templateName.set () -> return Set.find({}) ...in terms of reactivity. A solution which simply console.log's the collection each time it is changed would be more that enough.

  At Pass Summit 2011 a new project was announced. It’s a Microsoft SQL Azure Lab and its codename is Microsoft “Data Explorer”. According to the official blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dataexplorer/), this new tool provides an innovative way to acquire new knowledge from the data that interest you. In a nutshell, Data Explorer allows you to combine data from multiple sources, to publish and share the result. In addition, you can generate data streams in the RESTful open format (Open Data Protocol), and they can then be used by other applications. Nonetheless we can still use Excel or PowerPivot to analyze the results. Sources can be varied: Excel spreadsheets, text files, databases, Windows Azure Marketplace, etc.. For those who are not familiar with this resource, I strongly suggest you to keep an eye on the data services available to the Marketplace: https://datamarket.azure.com/browse/Data To tell the truth, as I read the above blog post, I was tempted to think of the Data Explorer as a "SSIS on Azure" addressed to the Power User. In fact, reading the response from Tim Mallalieu (Group Program Manager of Data Explorer) to the comment made to his post, I had a positive response to my first impression: “…we originally thinking of ourselves as Self-Service ETL. As we talked to more folks and started partnering with other teams we realized that would be an area that we can add value but that there were more opportunities emerging.” The typical operations of the ETL phase ( processing and organization of data in different formats) can be obtained thanks to Data Explorer Mashup. • Virtual bridge/switch for Windows server&client?

  I can't find a very simple application, with litle to zero configuration on both client and server side which would help one computer to bring other computers on an existing private LAN. OpenVPN seems like an overkill for this type of thing, and is really hard to get running or debug by various clueless people trying to connect. Does such a software exist? It's very odd not to. THe Windows provided VPN (PPTP over TCP and GRE) is not what I'm looking for because it is often filtered by ISPs. Only TCP and UDP solutions pls. Encryption is not needed.

• Seeking recommendations on resolving sporadic network connectivity latency for Notes client

  I have Domino servers in geographically disperse data centers in the U.S. Sometimes when I open an NSF on one of those servers the connection times out then when I open the NSF again it connects immediately. This has been going on for years and during that time I have upgraded and changed my own internet connection and moved servers to different data centers. Of course I have direct connection documents using fixed IP addresses. When I do a Notes client Trace nothing is out of the ordinary. My business partner experiences the same thing from an entirely different city and different ISP but to the same servers. Never have any trouble connecting to the HTTP server, just over port 1352. Does anyone have any recommendations on a process to determine what is causing this problem?

• Gearman client doBackground always returns GEARMAN_TIMEOUT

  So, ive got a simple gearman system running right now, with a worker running. The worker basically just takes the payload (a random number in this case, and is supposed to echo it back to the screen. Literally an echo, not returning to the client. The client sends the random number. Im trying to do a $client->doBackground( 'post', 65482, md5(uniqid())); but its coming back with a 47 error (GEARMAN_TIMEOUT) every time. getErrNo() returns 0, error() returns something about GEARMAN_TIMEOUT However, when i change it to just $client->do(blah, blah, blah), it works just fine. • dhcp client service won't start

  I have a Laptop with 2 network interfaces and neither will get an IP address through dhcp. I found out that the dhcp client service didn't start. Upon manually starting it gives the error 2: File not found. I have checked that the files were there (both svchost and dhcpcore .dll), the local service account has read access to the system32 folder, the path in the registry is also correct and I can access the file. I have tried to netsh winsock reset and ip reset all. I have even added the local service account to the administrators group. sfc /scannow also came up clean. I have no idea what else I can try. Any suggestions are welcome. (side note it's a windows 7 32 bit, atheros wlan, deinstalled avira before any of the other troubleshooting)

I want matlab to download the historical data for last 5 years for each stock ticker into a separate xls spreadsheet and save it in a given directory with title of the sheet = ticker. • A problem with .NET 2.0 project, using a 3.0 DLL which implements WCF services.

  I made a client for accessing my WCF services in one project, and all classes that work with services inherit from this class: public abstract class ServiceClient<TServiceClient> : IDisposable where TServiceClient : ICommunicationObject This class is where I do stuff like disposing, logging when the client was called, etc. some common stuff which all service classes would normally do. Everything worked fine, until I got the task to implement this on an old system. I got into a problem when I used this project (DLL) in an other project which cannot reference System.ServiceModel (since it's an old .NET 2.0 software that I still maintain, and upgrading it to 3.0 is out of the question). Here, if I omit where TServiceClient : ICommunicationObject then the project can build, but the ServiceClient cannot use, for example, client.Close() or client.State So, is my only solution to drop the where statement, and rewrite the service classes?

• ASP.NET button click event still firing even through custom server-side validation fails

  I am having a problem where my button click event is still firing even though my custom server-side validation is set to args.IsValid = false. I am debugging through the code and the validation is definitely being fired before the button click, and args.IsValid is definitely being set to false once the custom validation takes place, but it always makes its way to the button click event afterwards. Any ideas on why this is?

• Is a web-server (e.g servlets) a good solution for an IM server?

  I'm looking at a new app, broadly speaking an IM application with a strong client-server model - all communications go through a server so they can be logged centrally. The server will be Java in some form, clients could at this point be anything from a .NET Desktop app to Flex/Silverlight, to a simple web-interface using JS/AJAX. I had anticipated doing the server using standard J2EE so I get a thread-safe, multi-user server for 'free'... to make things simple let's say using Servlets (but in practice SpringMVC would be likely). This all seemed very neat but I'm concerned if the stateless nature of Servlets is the best approach. If my memory of servlets (been a year or two) is right, each time a client sent a HTTP request, typically a new message entered by the user, the servlet could not assume it had the user/chat in memory and might have to get it from the DB... regardless it has to look it up. Then it either has to use some PUSH system to inform other members of the chat, or cache that there are new messages, for other clients who poll the server using AJAX or similar - and when they poll it again has to lookup the chat, including new messages, and send the new data. I'm wondering if a better system would be the server is running core Java, and implements a socket-based communication with clients. This allows much more immediate data transfer and is more flexible if say the IM client included some game you could play. But then you're writing a custom server and sockets don't sound very friendly to a browser-based client on current browsers. Am I missing some big piece of the puzzle here, it kind of feels like I am? Perhaps a better way to ask the question would simply be "if the client was browser-based using HTML/JS and had to run on IE7+,FF2+ (i.e no HTML5), how would you implement the server?" edit: if you are going to suggest using XMPP, I have been trying to get my head around this in another question, so please consider if that's a more appropriate place to discuss this specifically.

• Php, passing data between pages without using the url?

  I have a php page that has a form that asks for an e-mail. When you press the send button, it gets to another php page, which gets the form data and does its stuff. I need to then be able to go back to the old page (the one that contained the form) and give it some data so that it will be able to change itself and say "You've sent your e-mail successfully, and will not display the form. How do I do it?
