• Trouble with Collada bones

  I have a Collada file with a rigged mesh. I've read the node tags in the library_visual_scenes tag and extracted the matrix for each node and stored everything in a hierarchical bone structure. My Matrix container is "row major", so I'd store the first float of a matrix tag in the 1st row, 1st column, the second in the 1st row, 2nd column, etc. From what I gather this is the Bind Pose Matrix. After that I went through the tag and extracted the float array in the source tag of the skin tag of the controller for the mesh. I stored each matrix from this float array in their corresponding Bone as the Inverse Bind Matrix. I also extracted the bind-shape-matrix and stored it. Now I'd like to draw the skeleton with OpenGL to see if everything is working correctly before I go about skinning. I iterate once over my bones and multiply a bone's Bind Pose Matrix by it's parents and store that. After that I iterate again over the bones and multiply the result of the previous matrix multiplication by the Inverse Bind Matrix and then by the Bind Shape Matrix. The results look something like this: [0.2, 9.2, 5.8, 1.2 ] [4.6, -3.3, -0.2, -0.1 ] [-1.8, 0.2, -4.2, -3.9 ] [0, 0, 0, 1 ] I've had to go to various sources to get the little understanding of Collada I have and books about 3d transform matricies can get pretty intense. I've hit a brick wall and if you could please read through this and see if there is something I'm doing wrong, and how I'd go about getting an X,Y,Z to draw a point for each of these joints once I've calculated the final transform, I'd really appreciate it.

• Design practice for securing data inside Azure SQL

  Update: I'm looking for a specific design practice as we try to build-our-own database encryption. Azure SQL doesn't support many of the encryption features found in SQL Server (Table and Column encryption). We need to store some sensitive information that needs to be encrypted and we've rolled our own using AesCryptoServiceProvider to encrypt/decrypt data to/from the database. This solves the immediate issue (no cleartext in db) but poses other problems like Key rotation (we have to roll our own code for this, walking through the db converting old cipher text into new cipher text) metadata mapping of which tables and which columns are encrypted. This is simple when it's just couple of columns (send an email to all devs/document) but that quickly gets out of hand ... So, what is the best practice for doing application level encryption into a database that doesn't support encryption? In particular, what is a good design to solve the above two bullet points? If you had specific schema additions would love it if you could give details ("Have a NVARCHAR(max) column to store the cipher metadata as JSON" or a SQL script/commands). If someone would like to recommend a library, I'd be happy to stay away from "DIY" too. Before going too deep - I assume there isn't any way I can add encryption support to Azure by creating a stored procedure, right?

• How can # of unique visitors be more than # of visits?

  I am confused as heck. When looking at a few individual pages, I am seeing weird results I hope someone can help explain. I am doing manual standard reports, and not creating or using a widget. For each of the two tests below, the metrics I am using are visits (not visitors) and unique visitors. I am using Page as my primary dimension and Page Title as secondary. I am filtering to include certain Pages. Example 1 - Looking at a single page... I see 731 unique visitors and 169 visits. How is this possible? Does google just flip them around for some reason? Example 2 - Looking at several pages combined... If you examine the timeline below , you can see that the numbers are all over the place. How is it possible to have more unique visitors than visits? What am I missing? I would suspect that if things were just flipped around, then I should still see one line that is always below the other line. Anyone clue me in to what may be happening here? I also notice that the visits column (just out of view) adds up to the total, but the unique visitors column clearly doesn't.

• Is there a formula for this?

  TL/DR: Any way to work out if known numbers between a known start and ending figure should be positive or negative numbers? I am developing an application in PHP which can import and read PDFs. The PDFs are financial ones such as bank statements with records of transactions in and out of a bank account. I only have PDFs to work with, no other formats such as CSV unfortunately. I convert the PDF to HTML using pdftohtml and start parsing the data, the intended end result is an array of transactions. So far I have it working smoothly collecting dates, descriptions and balance. Converting the XML instead doesn't help. There are other pieces of transcriptional data such as debit or credit amounts. In the PDF, the credit amount is in one column and the debit amount is in another column so it is quite clear in the PDF. However, when converted to HTML, the formatting is lost and therefor I don't know if the amount was a credit or debit amount. So, my question is, given a starting balance and an ending balance and several known figures in between, is it possible for a programme to work out if those known figures in between are credit or debit amounts? I imagine there could potentially be several combinations of those known values to reach the ending balance so I'd like to apply a formula to return the correct credit/debit sequence only if its the only possible solution. If there are several ways of adding/subtracting the known values to reach the end balance, I can ask the user to look at it manually but I'd like to keep this to a minimum if possible. Possible to do, do you think? Thank you in advance for any help.

• Would this data requirement suit a Document -Oriented database?

  I have a requirement to allow users to fill in journal/diary entries per day. I want to provide a handful of known journal templates with x columns to fill in. An example might be a thought diary; a user has to record a thought in one column, describe the situation, rate how they felt etc. The other requirement is that a user should be able to create their own diary templates. They might have a need for a 10 column diary entry per day and might need to rate some aspect out of 50 instead of 10. In an RDBMS, I can see this getting quite complicated. I could have individual tables for my known templates as the fields will be fixed. But for custom diary templates I imagine I would would need a table storing custom_field_types (the diary columns), a table storing entries referencing their field types (custom_entries) and then a third custom_diary table which would store rows matching custom_entries to diaries. Leaving performance / scaling aside, would it be any simpler or make more sense to use a document oriented database like MongoDB to store this data? This is for a web application which might later need an API for mobile devices.

• Simplifying data search using .NET

  An example on the asp.net site has an example of using Linq to create a search feature on a Music album site using MVC. In practice this pattern doesn't seem to scale well because as the search criteria expands I keep adding more and more conditions which looks and feels unpleasant/repetitive. How can I refactor this pattern? One idea I have is to create a column in every table that is "searchable" which could be a computed column that concatenates all the data from the different columns (SQL Server 2008). So instead of having movie genre and title it would be something like. if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(searchString)) { movies = movies.Where(s => s.SearchColumn.Contains(searchString)); } What are the performance/design/architecture implications of doing this? I have also tried using procedures that use dynamic queries but then I have just moved the ugliness to the database. E.g. • What is the best way to store a table in C++

  I'm programming a decision tree in C++ using a slightly modified version of the C4.5 algorithm. Each node represents an attribute or a column of your data set and it has a children per possible value of the attribute. My problem is how to store the training data set having in mind that I have to use a subset for each node so I need a quick way to only select a subset of rows and columns. The main goal is to do it in the most memory and time efficient possible (in that order of priority). The best way I have thought of is to have an array of arrays (or std::vector), or something like that, and for each node have a list (array, vector, etc) or something with the column,line(probably a tuple) pairs that are valid for that node. I now there should be a better way to do this, any suggestions? UPDATE: What I need is something like this: In the beginning I have this data: Paris 4 5.0 True New York 7 1.3 True Tokio 2 9.1 False Paris 9 6.8 True Tokio 0 8.4 False But for the second node I just need this data: Paris 4 5.0 New York 7 1.3 Paris 9 6.8 And for the third node: Tokio 2 9.1 Tokio 0 8.4 But with a table of millions of records with up to hundreds of columns. What I have in mind is keep all the data in a matrix, and then for each node keep the info of the current columns and rows. Something like this: Paris 4 5.0 True New York 7 1.3 True Tokio 2 9.1 False Paris 9 6.8 True Tokio 0 8.4 False Node 2: columns = [0,1,2] rows = [0,1,3] Node 3: columns = [0,1,2] rows = [2,4] This way on the worst case scenario I just have to waste size_of(int) * (number_of_columns + number_of_rows) * node That is a lot less than having an independent data matrix for each node.

• Rowspan not using top row

  I don't understand why my column won't span to the top and bottom rows I created. It is supposed to look like the "Today" column is taller on the top and bottom then the other columns. I tried accomplishing this by adding rows above and below it and then using rowspan. For some reason, it only works on the bottom row. It's a lot of code, and I wasn't sure what I should cut without deforming it all or adding a new variable (it needs a fluid height). • Trying to sort the coefficients of the polynomial (z-a)(z-b)(z-c)...(z-n) into a vector

  So I have a factored polynomial of the form (z-a)(z-b)(z-c)...(z-n) for n an even positive integer. Thus the coefficient of z^k for 0 <= k < n will be the sum of all distinct n-k element products taken from the set {a,b,...,n} multiplied by (-1)^k, I hope that makes sense, please ask if you need more clarification. I'm trying to put these coefficients into a row vector with the first column containing the constant coefficient (which would be abc...n) and the last column containing the coefficient for z^n (which would be 1). I imagine there is a way to brute force this with a ton of nested loops, but I'm hoping there is a more efficient way. This is being done in Matlab (which I'm not that familiar with) and I know Matlab has a ton of algorithms and functions, so maybe its got something I can use. Can anyone think of a way to do this? Example: (z-1)(z-2)(z-3) = z^3 - (1 + 2 + 3)z^2 + (1*2 + 1*3 + 2*3)z - 1*2*3 = z^3 - 6z^2 + 11z - 6. Note that this example is n=3 odd, but n=4 would have taken too long to do by hand.   I have a Kendo UI Grid that I am currently allowing filtering on multiple columns. I am wondering if there is a an alternative approach removing the outer switch statement? • preventing changes to a cell in google spreadsheet [migrated]

  I want to prevent changes to column K in google spreadsheet. Whatever value is there, I do not want it changed. I do not like the protection feature as it makes what I consider an ugly display. My code. Unfortunately, it does absolutely nothing. The intent was to take whatever the current value is in the cell, save it, and then write it back on exit of the cell instead of saving whatever changes might have been made to the cell. The cell will either be blank to start, or will already have been modified to contain a date & time.   I've been trying for hours and I cannot solve this problem. I'm making an app that saves unfinished Chess Games, so I'm trying to write an array to a file. • How is WPF Data Binding using Object Data Source in Visual Studio 2010 done?

  This is probably mostly a question about how to use the VS 2010 IDE tools in a way the Microsofties didn't specifically intend. But since this is something I immediately tried without success. I have defined a .NET 4.0 WPF Application project with a simple class that looks like this: Public Class Class1 Public Property One As String = "OneString" Public Property Two As String = "TwoString" End Class I then defined it as an "Object Data Source" in VS2010, using the IDE's "Add New Data Source..." feature. • CommandBinding broken in inner Custom Control when nesting two Custom Controls of the same type.

  I've done a Custom Control in form of a GroupBox but with an extra header which purpose is to hold a button or a stackpanel with buttons at the other side. I've added the a Dependency Property to hold the extra header and I've connected the customized template. Everything works fine until I put one of these controls in another one. Now the wierd stuff begins(at least in my eyes xP), the command binding in the inner control simply isn't set. I tried to use Snoop to gather some data, the see if the inherits is broken and when I clicked on the buttons which isn't doing what I want it to, boom, breakpoint triggered. So in some wierd way the Command isn't set until something that I don't know what it is, happens, which snoops triggers. I've also tried to put the buttons in the regular Header property and that works fine, but not with my own made. I could just switch places with them to make it like I want but now I'm curious to know where the problem lies... Now I wonder, what can I've missed? • NHibernate IUserType convert nullable DateTime to DB not-null value

  I have legacy DB that store dates that means no-date as 9999-21-31, The column Till_Date is of type DateTime not-null="true". in the application i want to build persisted class that represent no-date as null, So i used nullable DateTime in C# //public DateTime? TillDate {get; set; } I created IUserType that knows to convert the entity null value to DB 9999-12-31 but it seems that NHibernate doesn't call SafeNullGet, SafeNullSet on my IUserType when the entity value is null, and report a null is used for not-null column. I tried to by-pass it by mapping the column as not-null="false" (changed only the mapping file, not the DB) but it still didn't help, only now it tries to insert the null value to the DB and get ADOException. Any knowledge if NHibernate doesn't support IUseType that convert null to not-null values?   Hi, I'm doing an eshop with goods displayed as "tiles" in grid as usual. I just want to use various sizes of tiles and make sure (via jQuery) there are no free spaces. In basic situation, I have a 960px wrapper and want to use 240x180px (class .grid_4) tiles and 480x360px (class .grid_8) tiles. Also small tiles to the left from the big one need to be wrapped in another div so that they appear in column rather than row. Now finally the questions: how to generalize the function so that I can use even more tile dimensions like 720x360 (3x2), 480x540 (2x3), etc.? is there a way to simplify the function? I need to make sure that big tile counts as a multiple of small tiles when checking the actual position. Because using index() on the tile on position 12 (last tile in 3rd row) would now return 7 (position 8) because tiles on positions 5 and 9 are wrapped together in one culumn and the big tile is also just a single div, but spans 2x2 positions. any clean way to ensure this? Let me post the comparison between the outcome of JPA implementation and the hibernate implementation of the same concept. • nhibernate cascade - problem with detached entities

  I am going nuts here trying to resolve a cascading update/delete issue :-) I have a Parent Entity with a collection Child Entities. If I modify the list of Child entities in a detached Parent object, adding, deleting etc - I am not seeing the updates cascaded correctly to the Child collection. The problems seems to be something to do with attaching the Product to the new session? As the cascade is set to all-delete-orphan I assume that changes to the collection would be propagated to the relevant entities/tables? In this case deletes? What am I missing here? C

• Deleting unreferenced child records with nhibernate

  Hi There I am working on a mvc app using nhibernate as the orm (ncommon framework) I have parent/child entities: Product, Vendor & ProductVendors and a one to many relationship between them with Product having a ProductVendors collection Product.ProductVendors. I currently am retrieving a Product object and eager loading the children and sending these down the wire to my asp.net mvc client. A user will then modify the list of Vendors and post the updated Product back. I am using a custom model binder to generate the modified Product entity. I am able to update the Product fine and insert new ProductVendors. My problem is that dereferenced ProductVendors are not cascade deleted when specifying Product.ProductVendors.Clear() and calling _productRepository.Save(product). The problem seems to be with attaching the detached instance.   I have a War and Jar project in my Eclipse-based JSF project. The War project has all of my .xhtml files as well as the project's faces-config.xml, my Jar project has all of my faces related Java code (action beans, managed beans, custom converters, etc.)
