  I have been trying to migrate a database from sybase to Mysql. This is my approach: Generate pojo classes from my sybase database using hibernate in eclipse Use these pojo classes to generate the schema in mysql database Then somehow migrate the data from sybase to mysql I guess this approach should work??? Please let me know if there is any better or easier approach. The thing is I am not even able to get the first step done. I added hibernate plugin in eclipse from this link: [http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/stable/][1] I added sybase jar file to my project classpath Then I added hibernate console configuration file Then I added hibernate configuration file Then I added hibernate code generation configuration When I try to run the code generation configuration file, I am getting java.lang.NullPointerException and I have no idea how to fix it. I searched a lot of forums, tried to google it, but I not able to find any solution. Can anybody tell me what mistake I am making here or point to some hibernate tutorial for eclipse??

  at the moment I try to reduce the load on my database extremly, so I had a look in my website and think about - what database calls can I try to avoid. So is there a rule for that? Sould I save every information in a Session that is nearly never changed? e.g.: The User-Table is a 35-coloumn-table which I need so often in so different ways, that in the moment I got this user-object at nearly every PageLoad AND in the master-site-page-load (Settings, display the username for a welcome message, colors etc etc.). So is that good to avoid the database query here, save the User-Object in a Session and call it from the session - and of course destroy the session whereever the User-Object get changed (e.g. User change his settings)?

How can I take data I need from database and save it to file "at once"? (as quick as possible? I don't need xml output because I can process data from output on my server later.   A few years ago there was a PHP script around called paFileDB. Essentially it created a database of files that end users could download and rate. It would keep track of the number of downloads as well. I am looking for a replacement of this coded in ASP.net C#. For the last week I have been searching around for "asp.net C# file database" and have just gotten how to upload files to a database. I have also search with some other terms. I do not need a full blown CMS like DotNetNuke or SharePoint. All I have been looking for is a system I could easily add to my existing .net C# site. I have thought about coding one myself, but with me being rather busy at work and this being a personal project, I simply do not have the time to code this myself. I hope that you guys can help. • Managing Large Database Entity Models

  I would like hear how other's are effectively (or not) working with the Visual Studio Entity Designer when many database tables exists. It seems to me that navigating the Designer is tough enough to find what you are looking for with just a few tables but how about a database with say 100 to 200 tables? When a table change is made at the database level how is the model updated? Does it overwrite any manual changes you have made to the model? How would you quickly find an entity in the designer to make a change or inspect a change? Seems unrealistic to be scrolling around looking for specific entity. Thanks for your feedback!

  I have a music related ASP.NET web site which caches a lot of static information from the database on the first request. Sometimes, the application is reset and cache is cleared while the application is on heavy load and then all http requests go to the database to retrieve that static data and cache it for other requests. How can I ensure that only one request go to the database and cache the results, so that other request simply read that info from cache and not needlessly retrieve the same info over and over again. Can I use thread locking? For example, can I do something like lock(this) { db access here }?

  Hi, I am working to develop a JMS application(stand alone multithreaded java application) which can receive 100 messages at a time , they need to be processed and database procedures need to be called for inserting/updating data. Procedures are very heavy as validations are also performed in them. Each procedure is taking about 30 to 50 seconds of time to execute and they are capable to run concurrently. My concern is to execute 100 procedures for all 100 messages and also send reply within time limit of 90 seconds by jms application. No application server to be used(requirement) and database is Teradata (RDBMS) I am using connection pool and thread pool in java code and testing code with 90 connections. Question is : (1) What should be the limit on number of connections with database at a time? (2) How many threads at a time are recommended? Thanks, Jyoti

• Add database to plesk domain account via XML

  Hi All, I'm currently working on trying to integrate a site with Plesk via the XML API and I've run into a bit of an issue. I've managed to get most things working but I'm trying to add a database to a domain and I keep getting an error. When creating the database I extract a list of Domain Accounts associated with the current clients account, and use the domain guid that is returned in the XML to try and create the new database, but Plesk is returning an error stating that the id I am using is not a valid id. I've looked at the documentation and it is saying that the domain ID that I should be sending is an integer, but the only ID I can find for the domain is the guid, which is a string. Anyone done anything like this before and know where I can get the ID from?

  I simply would like to upload a file to my database using ColdFusion. I understand how to upload an image to a directory, but I would like to place it directly in the database. I have set a database field to varbinary(MAX) to accept the image and have the stored procedure to insert it. Currently my code for uploading the image to my file system is: <cfif isdefined("form.FileUploadImage")> <cffile action="upload" filefield="FileUploadImage" destination="#uploadfolder#" nameconflict="overwrite" accept="image/*" > </cfif> I've obviously left some of the supporting code out, but really all I need to do is get a binary representation of the file stored in memory, instead of the file system. • Rails: has_many association with a table in another database and without foreign key

  Here is my situation. I have model called Account. An account can have one or more contracts. The problem is that i'm dealing with a legacy application and each account's contracts are stored in a different database. Example: Account 1's contract are in account1_db.contracts. Account 2's contract are in account2_db.contracts. The database name is a field stored in accounts table. How can i make rails association work with this? This is a legacy PHP application and i simply can't change it to store everything in one table. I need to make it work somehow. I tried this, but it didn't worked: has_many :contracts, :conditions => [lambda{ Contract.set_table_name(self.database + '.contracts'); return '1' }] Any ideas?

• SQL 2008 Select Top 1000 and update the selected database drop-down

  When you right click and do a Select top 1000 rows from a table in sql 2008, it opens a tab and writes the sql and then executes it. This is okay, however I'll erase the sql and use the same tab often to do other sql statements. What annoys me is that I have to go to the database drop-down at the top of the window and change it to the current database I'm in because it says Master. How can I make sql 2008 update the selected database for this tab automatically when I right click a table and do select top 1000? On a side note, can I automatically hide the select statement that it generates and just show grid of results?

• Can I change the database server and database a report is pointing to dynamically?

  I have a Crystal 2008 report that will be deployed to an InfoView server. There are four different databases the user might want to execute the report against. Each of the four databases have exactly the same schema. Only the data in each is different. Each database corresponds to a plant we have around the world. Instead of creating four different reports (each one connected to one of the four databases), am I able to dynamically change the server/database the report hits based on a value the user enters into a parameter? I'm really trying to avoid having to create four identical reports except for the database connection on each. If this isn't possible, how do developers typically deal with this sort of scenario? I would imagine it's fairly common. Thanks very much.

• MySQL Import Database Error because of Extended Inserts

  Hello all, I'm importing a 400MB(uncompressed) MySQL database. I'm using BIGDUMP, and I am getting this error: Stopped at the line 387. At this place the current query includes more than 300 dump lines. That can happen if your dump file was created by some tool which doesn't place a semicolon followed by a linebreak at the end of each query, or if your dump contains extended inserts. Please read the BigDump FAQs for more infos. I believe the file does contain Extended Inserts, however I have no way to regenerate the database as it has been deleted from the old server. How can I import this database or convert it to be imported? Thanks for any help. Best Nick EDIT: It appears the only viable answer is to separate the extended inserts, but I still need help figuring out how to split the file as the answer below suggests. Please help. Thank you.

  I am trying to learn Asp.net MVC framework. I was looking at the video tutorial at the link below http://www.asp.net/learn/mvc-videos/video-395.aspx In this video the very first step is to add a new database to the example application. I have visual studio installed on my development machine but the SqlServer Express is running on a different machine, so when I try and add a new database following the same steps as the video I get the following error "Connections to SQL Server files(*.mdf) require SQL express 2005 to funciton properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the url" I am assuming this is because Visual studio is looking for an instance of SQL express on my local machine and since it doesnt exist on the local machine,it errors out. So how do i tell visual studio, to connect to a different machine and create the database there? I am using Visual studio 2008 with .net 3.5 Sp1

So what is the problem? Is it due to some internal security feature in vbulliten, does this system not allow you to connect to it's db if the page trying to connect to it is a non-vbulliten page?

However searching by state or territory in Australia is problematic because Google Maps locates these at the centre of the states and most population centres in Australia are on the coast. We need to hand code in the latitudes and longitudes so that when someone searches for the state 'NSW', for example, the database returns relevant results. Does anyone know where to find a list of the coordinates for the boundaries of Australian states & territories to code into the database? This will save our busy programmer a lot of time.   Hello everyone, I am using SQL Server 2008 Enterprise with VSTS 2008, and I am developing a simple web application using ASP.Net and Forms Authentication. When I am using the configuration tool/menu of VSTS of my ASP.Net project (I want to use this tool to manually add some Forms authentication users), I met with the following error (SqlException), Trying to attach file D:\Projects\MyTest\App_Data\aspnetdb.mdf to automatically named database failed. It may be caused by existing the same name database, or may be caused by specified file can not be opened or caused by the specified file exists in UNC share. In my computer, there is no aspnetdb.mdf under dir D:\Projects\MyTest\App_Data, and I have used aspnet_regsql to generate database successfully before I run the configuration tool. Why there is such error? How to fix it? thanks in advance, George

  I have a very annoying issue and I would love a solution. The problem: I followed the MDSN tutorial- http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-4/getting-started-with-aspnet-mvc4/adding-a-model Then I tried this guide according to my needs and I set up a database GAMES.MDF.   Then, I deleted the database and set it up again, is supposedly work (I can write and read data), but There is no such database in the APP_DATA folder. Like it keeps it somewhere in my PC and reuse it.   I even tried a new project and it did not work, works but not in the library, and it even uses the data I created before. I even deleted the DB from SQL Server Management Studio 2008. Does anyone know what the hell? How do I delete it permanently, not to remain any trace of him?   Thank you.  Ido
