• How much RAM used by Python dict or list?

  My problem: I am writing a simple Python tool to help me visualize my data as a function of many parameters. Each change in parameters involves a non-trivial amount of time, so I would like to cache each step's resulting imagery and supporting data in a dictionary. But then I worry that this dictionary could grow too large over time. Most of my data is in the form of Numpy arrays. My question: How would one go about computing the total number of bytes used by a Python dictionary. The dictionary itself may contain lists and other dictionaries, each of which contain data stored in Numpy arrays. Ideas?

• Is it possible to use os.walk over SSH?

  I'm new to Python so forgive me if this is basic, I've searched but can't find an answer. I'm trying to convert a Perl script into Python (3.x) which connects to a remote server and copies the files in a given directory to the local machine. Integrity of the transfer is paramount and there are several steps built-in to ensure a complete and accurate transfer. The first step is to get a complete listing of the files to be passed to rsync. The Perl script has the following lines to accomplish this: @dir_list = `ssh user@host 'find $remote_dir -type f -exec /bin/dirname {} \\;'`; @file_list = `ssh user@host 'find $remote_dir -type f -exec /bin/basename {} \\;'`; The two lists are then joined to create $full_list. Rather than open two separate ssh instances I'd like to open one and use os.walk to get the information using: for remdirname, remdirnames, remfilesnames in os.walk(remotedir): for remfilename in remfilesnames: remfulllist.append(os.path.join(remdirname, remfilename)) Thank you for any help you can provide.

• Multiple dropdowns, combination check and filter

  Using Javascript / jQuery, I'm trying to build a "combination checker" that will take the values of three (but can be more) dropdown lists and filter the options based on a supplied list of allowed combinations. For example: DROPDOWNS Field 1: - value_1 - value_2 Field 2: - value_3 Field 3: - value_4 - value_5 COMBINATIONS - value_1, value_3, value_5 - value_1, value_3, value_4 - value_2, value_3, value_5 When a user selects Field 3 - value_4, the unavailable options will be disabled - ie, Field 1 - value_2 (there is no combination that allows value_2 and value_4 to be selected together). It would be really great if someone could provide some pointers on how this can be achieved or just provide a fresh perspective - I'm going round in circles on this one!

  [Caveat] This is not directly a programing question, but it is something that comes up so often in language processing that I'm sure it's of some use to the community. Does anyone have a good list of uninteresting (English) words that have been tested by more then a casual look? This would include all prepositions, conjunctions, etc... words that may have semantic meaning, but are often frequent in every sentence, regardless of the subject. I've built my own lists from time to time for personal projects but they've been ad-hoc; I continuously add words that I forgotten as they come in.

• Search one element of a list in another list recursively

  I have 2 lists old_name_list = [a-1234, a-1235, a-1236] new_name_list = [(a-1235, a-5321), (a-1236, a-6321), (a-1234, a-4321), ... ] I want to search recursively if the elements in old_name_list exist in new_name_list and returns the associated value with it, for eg. the first element in old_name_list returns a-4321, second element returns a-5321, and so on until old_name_list finishes. I have tried the following and it doesn't work for old_name, new_name in zip(old_name_list, new_name_list): if old_name in new_name[0]: print new_name[1] Is the method I am doing wrong or I have to make some minor changes to it?   Say I have a 2D array of random boolean ones and zeroes called 'lattice', and I have a 1D array called 'list' which lists the addresses of all the zeroes in the 2D array. This is how the arrays are defined: define n 100 bool lattice[n][n]; bool *list[n*n]; After filling the lattice with ones and zeroes, I store the addresses of the zeroes in list: for(j = 0; j < n; j++) { for(i = 0; i < n; i++) { if(!lattice[i][j]) // if element = 0 { list[site_num] = &lattice[i][j]; // store address of zero site_num++; } } } How do I extract the x,y coordinates of each zero in the array? In other words, is there a way to return the indices of an array element through referring to its address?

  In particular, I've been trying to find the name of the ORA-0955 to improve code readability. Currently I'm using the following: EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN IF SQLCODE = -00955 What I would prefer is something like: EXCEPTION WHEN OBJECT_EXISTS THEN This seems cleaner to me and I would prefer that. But I've looked in SYS.STANDARD, and it lists relatively few named exceptions. Online documentation seems to mirror what's in SYS.STANDARD. Is there another package to look in? Some other resource?

• What CSS do I need to make my site more responsive?

  My site is: http://library.skybundle.com I feel like I almost have a responsive site. I did all the CSS styling myself. It is a Wordpress site but I completely edited the CSS of the original theme, so it is night-and-day different than it used to be. The original theme was mostly just for a canvas for me to work with, since I am not an expert in PHP and we wanted a Wordpress site for easy editing later on. Thanks to stackoverflow, I now have a footer that sticks to the bottom of every page and everything mostly looks good -- the way we want it anyway. The only thing missing now is the we want browser windows on MOBILE devices, such as on an iPhone, to automatically adjust the layout of the content in the body (wrapper). For example, on the main page (library.skybundle.com), I would like those two big icons two become vertically aligned as soon as the browser window sizes to a small, mostly vertical size, like that of a mobile phone. Take this site, for example: http://freedomsoundproductions.securesb.net/ This is what we would like it to do. So one a page with a sidebar, the content to the right of the sidebar should basically jump into the same "column" as the left sidebar and form one single long column. Just like in the example site above. This should all be possible via CSS. People in other forums seem to want me to use jQuery and stuff, but I can only use CSS, and I know that this must be possible without having to resort to jQuery, HTML, or other code.

• Best way in Python to determine all possible intersections in a matrix?

  So if I have a matrix (list of lists) of unique words as my column headings, document ids as my row headings, and a 0 or 1 as the values if the word exists in that particular document. What I'd like to know is how to determine all the possible combinations of words and documents where more than one word is in common with more than one document. So something like: [[Docid_3, Docid_5], ['word1', 'word17', 'word23']], [[Docid_3, Docid_9, Docid_334], ['word2', 'word7', 'word23', 'word68', 'word982']], and so on for each possible combination. Would love a solution that provides the complete set of combinations and one that yields only the combinations that are not a subset of another, so from the example, not [[Docid_3, Docid_5], ['word1', 'word17']] since it's a complete subset of the first example. I feel like there is an elegant solution that just isn't coming to mind and the beer isn't helping. Thanks.

• After mysql_query, no result output

  I have a simple mysql_query() update command to update mysql. When a user submits my form, it will jump to an update page to update the data. The problem is that there's supposed to be some data shown after the update, but it comes out blank.   Hi, I have a list of lists as below: List<List <T> > userList Class T { string uniqueidentifier, string param2, int param2} I have a uniqueidentifier and i need to find the element T in the list that has the same 'uniqueidentifier' value. I can do it using two 'foreach' loops. This does not seem to be nice way doing things. I guess there should be some inbuilt method like 'Find' that does the same thing and is highly optimized.

• Class structure for the proposed data and its containers ?

  First I would like to wish a happy new year to everyone that may read this :) I am having trouble on how to make a container for some data that I am importing into my application, and I am not sure on how to explain this very well and my english is not really a that good so I hope you can bear with my mistake and help me with some guidance. Currently with a foreach I am importing the follow fields from the data I receive: guid, itemid, name, owner(optional, can be null), zoneid, titleid, subid, heading, x, y, z, typeA, typeB, typeC From the above fields I need to store a Waypoint list of all coords a given item has moved to BUT for each guid I have a new list of waypoints. And from the waypoint list the first entry is also my initial item start location which would be my item initial position (if you notice i have a separate list for it which I was not sure would be better or not) not all items have a waypoint list but all items have the first position. • Show menu when view is long pressed

  I've been looking around on the internet regarding my question but I couldn't find a straight answer. Is it possible to create a non-blocking menu similar to the overflow menu found in Android 4.0+ when a view is long pressed? I have a number of LinearLayout instances which have an OnLongClickListener which brings up a context menu, but it's not exactly what I am looking for. I was hoping for a smoother menu which is brought up when one of these instances is clicked, and removed when the user clicks outside of the menu's region. This is very similar to the way the overflow menu behaves in the Android ActionBar. So to sum up, is it possible to replicate the look-and-fell and the behavior of the overflow menu when using context menus? Here's hoping I don't have to jump through hoops to get the implementation that I desire. Thanks in advance. EDIT: After some digging I've found the PopupMenu which is exactly what I was looking for however it works only on devices running Honeycomb and above. Does anyone know of a way with which I can replicate this menu behavior in older versions of Android without using blocking windows like dialogs?

I've seen several tutorials concerning scrollable lists, but this is a bit different. I've looked a bit through android's source code, but if anyone has the answer, it would save me a lot of time. • Magento - Using alternative "reviews count" on category list page

  Hi All I noticed that on the category list page, the number of reviews (pulled from frontend/base/default/template/review/helper/summary_short.phtml) lists the full amount of reviews for an item, not the amount available to the store view you’re on. So, for example (using the sample data) the Samsung MM-A900M Ace has 5 reviews - however, when you click that link and are taken to the reviews page, it actually just has 2 (as only 2 are available to the English view). But on the reviews page, the review count is correct and says 2 reviews (this time pulled from frontend/base/default/template/review/product/view/count.phtml). Is there any way to use this review count on the category list?

  Hey guys, I'm in the process of designing a set of views that use the same model in my app, the difference is that some views will differ in Read Only and Modifiable fields. So for example for view A I want to be able to modify A.One but no A.Two properties and for view B I want to have B.One and B.Two as modifiable fields. I was thinking in having a map that will hold this information and iterate both the modifiable and non-modifiable lists in a generic view, but I was thinking that maybe I can get feedback from you guys. What do you think?

• How can I diff against a revision of a single file using the default Git GUI tools?

  I want to view the history of a single file, and then compare a single revision from that history against the current version. On the command line, this is easy: Run: git log -- <filename> Locate the version you want to compare, Run: git diff <commitid> -- <filename> But how can this be done in the default Git gui tools, git gui and gitk? I know of two methods using gitk, but they're both horribly clunky: Either: Select the New View option from the View menu, Type in the full path to your file into the box labelled Enter files and directories to include, one per line, Locate the version you want to compare by looking at the highlighted items in the top pane, and click on it to select it, Right-click on the current version and select Diff selected - this, Or: Select Tree in the bottom right-hand pane, Locate the file you want to look at, right-click on it, and select Highlight this only, Locate the version you want to compare by looking at the highlighted items in the top pane, and click on it to select it, Right-click on the current version and select Diff selected - this, Click on the file in the bottom right-hand pane to jump to it in the diff output, or scroll manually.   Hi, Is it possible to import managed keywords into SharePoint 2010? Where are the keywords stored within which database? Background - I'm currently working on a migration from a legacy system into SharePoint 2010. So far everything is going well, and I can even bring across the managed meta data across along with most other data. The process I use was built for SharePoint 2007 to update Lists over SOAP. With a few manual tweaks I've managed to get the metadata to come across. To bring across either managed metadata or managed keywords I need to know the ID for the existing label/keyword. I have this for the Managed Metadata however not for the Managed Keyword. Currently I create a CSV file to be imported for managed metadata before working out the reverent GUID for the source label.   I have two colluections List<Application> myApps; List<Application> yourApps; These lists have overlapping overlapping data but they are coming from different sources and each source has some missing field data. Application object has a property called Description Both collections have a unique field called Key i want to see if there is a LINQ solution to: Loop through all applications in myApps and look at the key and see if that existing in yourApps. If it does, i want to take the description property from that application in yourApps and set the description property on the application on myApps to that same value i wanted to see if there was any slick way using lambda expressions (instead of having to have loops and a number of if statements.)

I am trying to write some jquery that will check the text in the title of the current full blog entry page and match it with the corresponding title in the sidebar navigation so that I can apply a class to style for an active state link ... but I'm not quite getting it! • how to pull and display range (min-max) data for each page in pagination?

  I have a table of data that is searchable and sortable, but likely to produce hundreds or thousands of results for broad searches. Assuming the user searches for "foo" and sorts the foos in descending price order I'd like to show a quick-jump select menu like so: <option value="1">Page 1 ($25,000,000 - $1,625,000)</option> <option value="2">Page 2 ($1,600,000 - $1,095,000)</option> <option value="3">Page 3 ($1,095,000 - $815,000)</option> <option value="4">Page 4 ($799,900 - $699,000)</option> ... Is there an efficient way of querying for this information directly from the DB? I've been grabbing all of the matching records and using PHP to calculate the min and max value for each page which seems inefficient and likely to cause scaling problems. The only possible technique I've been able to come up with is some way of having a calculated variable that increments every X records (X records to a page), grouping by that, and selecting MIN/MAX for each page grouping... unfortunately I haven't been able to come up with a way to generate that variable.

  Hi, Is there a way to dynamically create a selectItem list? I dont really want to have to create lots of bean code to make my lists return List<SelectItem>... Any ideas?
