  • Allow and restrict remote sql server access

    Hi, I want to expose my sql server instance via the internet. I've been programming asp.net to sql server for a long time, but for the first time i'm hosting the sql server myself instead of the clients server. So what i want to do is move my sql server from my dev machine at home to a virtual server (yet to hire). But of course i don't want anyone to just enter my sql server but just a few persons. So what i was thinking was to allow only a few ip addresses to the sql server instance. Can anyone tell me how i can expose my sql server to the internet and limit the access to the instance to only a few ip addresses? And ehm, if you know even better ways to secure it, i'd be happy, because this is the first time for me :) Michel

  • Looping through a batch file only if the response is "everything is okay"

    I have a batch file that loops through the contents of a directory and compresses the files in the directory as follows; for %%a in (c:\data\*.*) do if "%%~xa" == "" "C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7za.exe" a -tzip -mx9 "%%a.zip" "%%a" Seeing that I am using 7zip to compress the file, it returns the message "everything is okay" if it has successfully compressed the file and it then moves onto the next file in any. What I would like to do is the following; Only move to the next file if the response is "everything is okay" If the response is anything but "everything is okay", the error is logged Since an error has occurred, it attempts to compress the file again Once when it has succeeded i.e. "everything is okay" it goes to the next file Steps 3 & 4 only occur a maximum of 3 times before it gives up and moves onto the next file. How can I achieve this?

    192.168.3.1(ASA) - 192.168.2.1(ASA) - ( internet ) - 192.168.1.1(ASA) DomainController, FS, Exchange 192.168.0.1(ASA) - above is a rough idea what my network setup looks like. each internal ip (192.168.x.x) is located behind an ASA. Each location has a different gateway for the internet. They all talk to the 192.168.1.1 network for dns, dhcp, dc, exchange and so on. They can only see the 192.168.1.1, they can not see each other. In my Static Routes on my 192.168.1.1 ASA, should i have them configure as follows? example: 192.168.x.x 255.255.255.0 Locations_Internet_Gateway_IP OR 192.168.x.x 255.255.255.0 Main_Locations_Internet_Gateway_IP not sure which configurtation is correct, thanks in advance for any help!

  • Windows Remote-App Server 2012 Office 2013 User Settings not saved

    I have a Windows Server 2012 with RemoteApps enabled. It's running the latest Patches etc. It has Office 2013 installed and Excel and Word are shared to all users. Now I got the Problem that after each Reboot all User Settings are lost. I have a few users who pin previously opened Documents so they dont need to remember all Paths and those are all gone after Reboot. Also last opened Documents is empty and after a Server reboot it brings the office 2013 Window for First time setup where it asks if you want to connect to skydrive and all that. In the RemoteApps Collection I enabled a Userprofile-Drive 100GB drive E: for Storing User profile data. There is a Domain of course and there is no GPO Preventing the user from Storing settings etc. We also got an older Terminal Server 2003 in the same Domain where this is not happening. Any ideas why this is happening that all the Settings are lost after Reboot?

  • wmic output well formed xml on remote queries

    I want to use the WMI command line tool (wmic) to get information about windows computers on the network and output it as valid xml. However, I can't seem to find the right way to do this as the outputted xml currently contains invalid tokens for which I think I should use the /TRANSLATE:basicxml switch. The command: wmic /NODE:"tech-demo" /IMPLEVEL:Impersonate /USER:MyUser /PASSWORD:MyPassword /PRIVILEGES:DISABLE /AUTHLEVEL:Pkt /AUTHORITY:"ntlmdomain:companydomain.local" PATH Win32_LogicalDisk GET * /FORMAT:rawxml This command runs but returns invalid xml tokens ('<' and '' I think? edit: it appears to fail parsing at ‹) When I add the translate switch I get the message: Can not use credentials for local connections a bit strange that it tries to query the local pc when I add the switch.. Help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Config file (App.config) does not update on new installation

    I am creating setup of my project using Visula Studio 2008. I am facing problem in setup installation. If I uninstall old setup (application) and install the new one then config file (App.config) updates the attributes (surely it is new file) of config file but if I install new setup without uninstalling the old one then config file does not update. from config file I mean MyProject.exe.config Why is this behavior of config file. Should it not be updated on installation of the new setup Is this possible to delete and copy the config file of new setup? Is there a way to update only config file forcefully during installation.     I followed these instructions to create self-signed ssl: http://www.visualwin.com/SelfSSL/ (I opened SelfSSL and typed selfssl /T) When I access https: //localhost/ than it works, but when I try to access it remotely (i set up my router to port forward to localhost), for example https: //myip the page does not load. Also, I noticed one other thing. When I access localhost locally then I am asked to enter user/pass, but if I access remotely the I get the following warning: Under Construction The site you were trying to reach does not currently have a default page.     I am trying to connect to mysql server which is installed on my home pc from another pc. I allowed all connection in mysql configuration. There's no firewall blocking on the pc I am trying to connect from. I used the command- mysql -h Some.Host.IP -u SomeUser -p SomePassword I am getting- ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'Some.Host.IP' (10060) I can connect through php!! What's the problem? How do I solve it?

  • Force10 S60 remote management

    We've got a Force10 S60 switch to replace an older Cisco. I can't find a way to give the switch itself an IP address on the local VLAN so I can ssh to it. The config guide talks about using either a management interface on a separate management network or dedicating e.g. a gigabit port as a management port with a dedicated IP address. Ideally I would like to do what we do currently with the Cisco switches, which is in effect give the entire switch an IP so it can be reached from any host on the same VLAN without having to use up a physical port on the switch or physically connect the management port to another device. Is this possible with the S60 and if so, how would you give it, say the address 10.0.1.1 in vlan 10 (10.0.1.1/24)? Thanks!!!

  • What could cause the file command in Linux to report a text file as data?

    I have a couple of C++ source files (one .cpp and one .h) that are being reported as type data by the file command in Linux. When I run the file -bi command against these files, I'm given this output (same output for each file): application/octet-stream; charset=binary Each file is clearly plain-text (I can view them in vi). What's causing file to misreport the type of these files? Could it be some sort of Unicode thing? Both of these files were created in Windows-land (using Visual Studio 2005), but they're being compiled in Linux (it's a cross-platform application). Any ideas would be appreciated. Update: I don't see any null characters in either file. I found some extended characters in the .cpp file (in a comment block), removed them, but file still reports the same encoding. I've tried forcing the encoding in SlickEdit, but that didn't seem to have an effect. When I open the file in vim, I see a [converted] line as soon as I open the file. Perhaps I can get vim to force the encoding?

  • windows 2003 remote desktop configuration - "Active session limit" greyed out

    I have a terminal server which works fine except for one thing: users are logged off after 2 hours, regardless of activity. I have Override user settings checked in the appropriate control window, and "End a disconnected session: Never" is set. But, I found the "Active session limit" is greyed out so I can't change it, and is set to 2 hours.     We run a SVN repository. Some of our more advanced users need to be able to perform some SVN administration without relying on the system administrator. They need to be able to do things like create SVN repositories, delete SVN repositories,, and perform commands like 'svnadmin dump' and 'svnadmin load'. We'd like to avoid SSH access on these FreeBSD machines, and would rather provide a service interface through a Web UI. I'm looking for a simple script (or a small number of scripts) which use Perl or PHP. I found svnadmin or svnadmin.pl, but was hoping to find something with a larger user community or which has been recommended by others. It looks like Trac allows SVN administration, but comes with may more features then we need.

  • Windows RemoteApp deploying software updates, is there a better way?

    We provide an application as a service, over Windows RemoteApp. It's nearly impossible to deploy updates to the software, though, because if even a single user is online then the file is in-use and cannot be replaced. Is there some way to make this possible or easier? If it were possible, I'd be deploying probably 2-3 updates per day. As it is, I sometimes have to go all week without deploying one.

  • How to setup a web server with remote SMTP

    I have 2 severs, both running server 2008 (R2) One is the web server, one is running as a mail server. The setup I want is that any mail sent from apps (php, asp and asp.net) on the web server are sending mail through the mail server's SMTP server...but this seems to be proving trickier than i'd hoped. The mail server is running MailEnable, and the web server IIS7 (maybe 7.5) What i don't want is to setup an open relay SMTP server on the web server, as this is going to be open to abuse (even if I just allow relay from local address). the problem is, there doesn't appear to be a way to specify credentials in php so if I point it at the mail server, then the mail server has to be set as an open relay, which is almost worse. Any ideas how I should be doing this?

  • Encrypting traffic on remote end of SSH tunnel

    Using an example of someone connecting to a VPS, an SSH tunnel will encrypt any traffic coming from the user to the VPS. Once it reaches the VPS network, the traffic is not encrypted and is easily sniffable by network administrators on that particular network. (am I understanding all that correctly?) Is there a way to have the traffic encrypted on both ends so that neither side is susceptible to packet sniffing to reveal what kind of data/traffic/protocol is being transmitted?

  • Watch videos from a remote computer on the LAN on ubuntu

    I want to watch the videos on a friends computer on the LAN without having to download it. Both of us are running ubuntu. Now one way is to ssh to his computer, cd to the directory where the video is and run the falling command: cat video.avi | ssh me@mycomputer mplayer - This works. However the problem is that I cannot seek inside the video as in can't go forward or backward in it. Is there a method by which I can watch the videos and also seek in them ? I can install any software on his comp and my comp to aid this process. I have root level access on both computers. Any suggestions ?

  • Robocopy with local catalog of remote data for incremental backup

    I am currently using robocopy to an extremely slow destination. The compare between source and destination files can take a while to run through. Since the destination will never change (apart from the robocopy changes), is there any program that will work similarly to robocopy, but have a local list of what files (attributes and timestamps) the destination has, to compare with? I know there are expensive solutions which may do this, but I'm looking for something free if possible. Hopefully this makes sense.

  • How to configure remote access to multiple subnets behind a SonicWALL NSA 2400

    I have a client that uses a SonicWALL NSA 2400 as their firewall. I need to setup a second LAN subnet for a handful of PC. Management has decided that there should be a second subnet even though intend to allow access across the two subnets - I know... I'm having trouble getting communication across the 2 subnets. I can ping each gateway, but I cannot ping or seem to route traffic fron subnet A to subnet B. Here is my current setup: X0 Interface: LAN zone with IP addres 192.168.1.1 X1 Interface: WAN zone with WAN IP address X2 Interface: LAN zone with IP address 192.168.75.1 I have configured ARP and routes for the secondar subnet (X2) according to this SonicWALL KB article: http://www.sonicwall.com/downloads/supporting_multiple_firewalled_subnets_on_sonicos_enhanced.pdf using "Example 1". At this point I don't minding if I have to throw the SonicWALL GVC software VPN client into the mix to make it work. It feel like I have an Access Rule issue, but for testing I made LAN LAN, WAN LAN and VPN LAN rules wide open with the same results.
