  • SQL 2008 R2: Data\Log partions

    I have a SQL Server setup that a previous IT person set up with a 2TB data partition and a 1TB log partition. The OS partition is 244GB and SQL is installed on a separate 1TB partition. We have an additional 8TB of storage that I would like the new IT staff to bring on line. He wants to create 4 new 2TB data partition. I see this as confusing. Can't we just backup the current data partition, blow it away, and create a new 10TB data partition I'm responsible for administering the data on the server but am not allowed to do the setup myself. This is a GIS server running ArcGIS Server with around 60 geodatabases ranging from 20BG to a couple that may grow to over a TB. So, 5-2TB data partitions or 1-10TB partition. Thanks for the advice.

    Hi I have a domain controller that I have installed active directory onto and have set up an account that I want to use for my SQL server installation on another computer that is linked onto the domain. I can search for the account in active directory and I am able to select it into the add new user section in MSSMS, however, when I click add I get 'Windows NT user or group 'DOMAIN\user' not found. Check the name again. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15401) I have googled the Error code and I havent found a solution that has fixed the error. If you have any help I would be greatful Thanks :)

Now it will follow the following pattern Major.Minor.TargetSQLServerVersion.Revision Added support for Auto Configurations Fixed a bug that reported incorrect number of errors and warnings to Log Providers Fixed a buf that prevented correct casting of values when using /Set and /Param options Errors and Warnings are now counted more precisely. Updated database and log import scripts to categorize logs by projects and sections. E.g.: Project: MyBIProject; Sections: Staging, Datawarehouse Removed unused report stored procedures from database Updated Samples: 12 samples are now available to show ALL DTLoggedExec features From this version only SSIS 2008 will be supported http://dtloggedexec.codeplex.com/releases/view/62218  It useful to say something more on a couple of specific points: From this version only SSIS 2008 will be supportedYes, Integration Services 2005 are not supported anymore.     Steps Involved: 1) Create a Database Backup Script. 2) Create a Scheduled Task To Run the Backup Script. 1 Create a Database Backup Script. a) Download and install SQL Server Management Studio. This is a free tool available on the Microsoft website. b) Once Management Studio is installed launch it and connect to the SQL server instance that contains the database that you want to back up. c) Right click on the database and then in the menu choose Tasks -> Back up... d) This will open up a window where you can choose your backup options, once you are happy with the options click on the "Script" button near the top and select the "Script Action to File" option. e) Save the File. 2 Create a Schedule Task to Run the Backup Script a) Open up Windows Task Scheduler. b) Create a new Task using the wizard, when asked to select a program browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\binn\SQLCMD.exe c) There are 2 arguments that need to be set: -S \SERVER_INSTANCE_NAME  -i "PATH_OF_SQLBACKUP_SCRIPT" where SERVER_INSTANCE_NAME  is the name of the instance of SQL server that contains your database e.g. (local) and PATH_OF_SQLBACKUP_SCRIPT is the path of your backup script e.g. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\DatastoreBackup.sql" d) Adjust the task to run at the desired times and you are done.

  • Going from webforms, VS 2008, 3.5 framework to the "next level" based on my goals

    I've got a few choices to make as I develop some business websites that will run for the next two to three years. Currently I run ASP.NET 3.5 with Visual Studio 2008. I do my development rather crudely in WebForms because that's what I learned and am most productive with. I don't use Membership or any other frameworks in my projects. I use a simple class that maintains a few session keys for each user based on basic database tables for users and roles. (I have about 3,000 users). So far I've kept the data simple, using ADO.NET against SQL Server and a data access class (Circa 2000, I know) to build my sites. My questions are as follows: Under what conditions would I be better off moving to MVC? Under what conditions would I find LINQ and ORM a better way to go than standard ADO.NET? Would I benefit, in my current state of development, from going from Studio 2008 to Studio 2010?

    I had forgotten that you can use SQL Server Modeling’s awesome Quadrant tool only with SQL Server 2008, not earlier versions of SQL Server. I tried to connect to a remotely hosted database today and kept getting this error message when trying to open tables: I searched and searched for information on "Quadrant" plus this error and only came up with two results that were from 2008.   • SQL Server 2008 (64-bit)

    I have transaction log backup failures randomly. SQL Server Log says 'Memory constraints resulted reduced backup/restore buffer sizes. Proceding with 6 buffers of size 64KB.', and the SQL Server Agent Error Log has quite a few errors like 'Unable to start Job Manager thread for job xxx', '[298] SQLServer Error: 768, Client unable to establish connection [SQLSTATE 08001]', [298] SQLServer Error: 768, SSL Provider: Not enough memory is available to complete this request [SQLSTATE 08001]'. I am really low on the memory? It has total of 32 GB, but I set maximum to 20. Task manager shows it is using 99% of physical memory. Memoryclerk-sqlbufferpool has 32GB for the Virtual Memory Reserved, and 20 GB for the Virtual Memory Committed. From the perfmon, SQLServer:Memory Manager/Total ServerMemory shows 21GB of memory in use, that's what I set the maximum to. I don't where the rest of memory go. Can anyone advice? Thanks in advance.
