• Upgrade from 9.10 to 11

  I have an installation in my machine (my version is 9.10 Karmic) and I got a warning to Upgrade to a version 10.04, to me it is okay, and I would like to upgrade to the 10.04, but here is my question. If I do, what will happen to my system of files? All my files? My programs, my apache configuration? All my servers.. Does everything reset to default? Will I lost all my data? Because if YES, will lost everything, why such a warning appears to me? Then the best solution is, format everything and install a brand new ubuntu version 11. Otherwise I still using 9.10 Karmic version,and just update normally as I'm required.. What is the best to do on this situation? Appreciate any help!

A suitable mechanism is one that (a) uses at run time a copy of the Library already present on the user's computer system, and (b) will operate properly with a modified version of the Library that is interface-compatible with the Linked Version. ... However in some cases, this can pose considerable difficulties. In particular, Haskell programs are almost always statically compiled. • How do I enable Flash 11.2 in Chrome?

  I'm trying to force Chrome to use Flash 11.2 rather than the packaged Pepper version because it doesn't support DRM and I want to be able to use Amazon Instant Video/HBO GO. I followed Adobe's instructions to a tee but when I restart Chrome and view the plugins, the Pepper flash version is still the only one available. I have expanded the details and am certain I have not just missed the other version. I checked the directories where the files were being copied to verify that it worked and it appears that they successfully copied without issue. Unfortunately, since I didn't run into any problems until finding that it just didn't work, I don't have many other details that might help shed some light on this. I'm crossing my fingers though and hoping that someone else might have had some experience with this. Thanks in advance.   Today I have been working on automatic deployment of an ubuntu server. I got stuck on automatic updating of the server using apt-get upgrade trying to upgrade to a new kernel.   I am planning to upgrade my current 9.04 server version to 12.04LTS server. I've successfully backup and restore my Cacti version 8.7d to 8.7i that comes with the distribution. However, the plugin patch installation for PIA 3.1 it is not working for only ubuntu. Can you assist? or it's there a way to include Cacti 8.8a which is a stable version which comes with PIA 3.1 preinstalled. regards, thomas

  A few months back, I was doing some recreational reading at the iOS Dev Center, and I came across a small list of guidelines for free vs. paid apps. It included guidance along these lines: How not to promote a paid version within a free version Not displaying "placeholder" buttons in a free version that "work" in a paid version I can't remember much more than that, and I cannot find it anymore on the iOS Dev Center. It's possible I imagined it entirely, but I doubt it - does anyone have a link to this information, or have a set of guidelines for free vs. paid apps in the App Store?

• crunchbang: it takes up *how* much memory?!?!

  I've been trying many distros of Linux lately, trying to find something I like for my netbook. I started out with Ubuntu, and I can tell you I am a big fan. Ubuntu is now fast to install, much simpler to administer, and pretty light resource-wise. My original install was the standard 32 bit version of 9.04. I tried the netbook remix version of this release, but it was very, very slow. Even the full-blown version used only about 200mb. Much better than the almost 800 that the recommended Windows y version took. Once the newest release of Ubuntu was released, I decided to try the netbook remx of 10.04. It used even less RAM; only about 150mb. I thought I'd found my OS. I certainly settled in and prepared to use it forever. Then, someone I know suggested I try cunchbang. It is the most minimalistic UI I've ever seen, using Openbox rather than Gnome or KDE. Very slick, simple and clean. Since I am using the alpha of the most recent version (using Debian Squeeze), the apps provided for you are few...although more will be provided soon. You do have a word processor, etc., although not the OpenOffice you would normally get in Ubuntu. But the best part? 48MB. That's it. 48mb fully loaded, supporting what I can "hotel services". It's fast, boots quick, and believe it or not, I can even do Java-based development....on my netbook! Pretty slick.   More on it as I use it.

• What changes were made to a document

  Part of my job is writing functional specs. Due to the inevitable iterative and incremental nature of software design/development, these specs need to be updated with additions/deletions/changes over a period of time. When the time comes for a developer to implement features or update their design document (or a tester to test the feature or update their test specs) they need to be doing that against the latest spec. The problem is that if they have reviewed this document already, they need a quick way to find the delta from the last time they reviewed it to see what changes exist and how their existing plans may be affected (instead of having to read the entire document again). Doing that is very easy assuming your Word documents are hosted on SharePoint. 1. Every time you review a document note the SharePoint version and/or date (if it is a printed copy, make sure your printout includes the date in the footer – all my specs do) 2. When you need to see what changed, open the document (make sure you are not using a cached or local offline copy) and on the ribbon go to the "Review" tab and then  click on the "Compare" button. 3. Click on the "Specific Version…" option. In the dialog that pops up pick the last version you reviewed and click the "Compare" button. [TIP for authors: before checkin of your document, always compare against the "Last Version" on the SharePoint so you can add appropriate more complete check in comments] 4. What you see now is that in addition to the document you have open, two other documents just opened up. One is in the background (flashing on your task bar) – close that one as it is the old version. 5. The other document is in the foreground and contains all the changes between the old version and the latest one. Be sure not to make edits to this document, use it only for reading the changes. To find all the changes, on the ribbon under the "Review" tab, click on the "Reviewing Pane" to open the reviewing pane on the left. You can now click on each pink change to see what it is. 6. When you are done reviewing changes close the document and don't save any changes (remember if you want to make edits/additions/comments make them in the original document which is still open).
