• Transferring filesystem-structured music collection to ipod

  I have a rather large music collection organized like music/<artist>/<album>/<track>-<title>.<fmt>, mostly mp3. However, the tagging is rather inconsistent, as on the PC or with better old players (Cowon D2+) I don't care and use the filesystem view. However, in the iTunes this all gets messed up because it doesn't care about file locations and looks at tags. What's worse though, it consistently splits compilations into single-track artist-albums. So, is there a way to take the existing filesystem artist-album structure and bring it to the form compatible with iTunes/iPod? Again, I don't care about tags. Automated approach is most welcome, but at least please direct me to some document specifying all the little details about iTunes' metadata requirement for compilations.

• How to find Tomcat's PID and kill it in python?

  Normally, one shuts down Apache Tomcat by running its shutdown.sh script (or batch file). In some cases, such as when Tomcat's web container is hosting a web app that does some crazy things with multi-threading, running shutdown.sh gracefully shuts down some parts of Tomcat (as I can see more available memory returning to the system), but the Tomcat process keeps running. • Uploading Binary iPhone App "The signature was invalid" again again and again...

  Hello! I'm going crazy! I'm trying to upload the binary of my first application but I have always the same error! "The binary you uploaded was invalid. The signature was invalid, or it was not signed with an Apple submission certificate." I did everything, EVERYTHING!! I created the request for the certificate, used it for both developer and distribution certificate, created the provisioning profile (12 times!!!) always cleaning my keychain and my Xcode deleting the old certificates and profiles.. I reboot the machine, reboot Xcode, the log is correct, but... I can't upload my app!!!! Checked if my iPhone is connected (i tried with iPhone disconneted too). I checked the certificate in both my project settings "Distribuition" Configuration (duplicate of "Release" configuration) and in my target settings. Reveal in finder, compress the app and sent the zip... I tried with Application Loader and iTunes connect online.. but nothing! NOTHING!! I've spent 8 hours! And again i can't have my app uploaded!!! I'm really going crazy! Can anyone help me pleeease? Thx!

• Glitch when moving camera in OpenGL

  I am writing a tile-based game engine for the iPhone and it works in general apart from the following glitch. Basically, the camera will always keep the player in the centre of the screen, and it moves to follow the player correctly and draws everything correctly when stationary. However whilst the player is moving, the tiles of the surface the player is walking on glitch as shown: Compared to the stationary (correct): Does anyone have any idea why this could be? Thanks for the responses so far. Floating point error was my first thought also and I tried slightly increasing the size of the tiles but this did not help. Changing glClearColor to red still leaves black gaps so maybe it isn't floating point error. Since the tiles in general will use different textures, I don't know if vertex arrays can be used (I always thought that the same texture had to be applied to everything in the array, correct me if I'm wrong), and I don't think VBO is available in OpenGL ES. Setting the filtering to nearest neighbour improved things but the glitch still happens every ten frames or so, and the pixelly result means that this solution is not viable anyway. The main difference between what I'm doing now and what I've done in the past is that this time I am moving the camera rather than the stationary objects in the world (i.e. the tiles, the player is still being moved). • Can I force the auto-generated Linq-to-SQL classes to use an OUTER JOIN?

  Let's say I have an Order table which has a FirstSalesPersonId field and a SecondSalesPersonId field. Both of these are foreign keys that reference the SalesPerson table. For any given order, either one or two salespersons may be credited with the order. In other words, FirstSalesPersonId can never be NULL, but SecondSalesPersonId can be NULL. When I drop my Order and SalesPerson tables onto the "Linq to SQL Classes" design surface, the class builder spots the two FK relationships from the Order table to the SalesPerson table, and so the generated Order class has a SalesPerson field and a SalesPerson1 field (which I can rename to SalesPerson1 and SalesPerson2 to avoid confusion). Because I always want to have the salesperson data available whenever I process an order, I am using DataLoadOptions.LoadWith to specify that the two salesperson fields are populated when the order instance is populated, as follows: dataLoadOptions.LoadWith<Order>(o => o.SalesPerson1); dataLoadOptions.LoadWith<Order>(o => o.SalesPerson2); The problem I'm having is that Linq to SQL is using something like the following SQL to load an order: SELECT ... FROM Order O INNER JOIN SalesPerson SP1 ON SP1.salesPersonId = O.firstSalesPersonId INNER JOIN SalesPerson SP2 ON SP2.salesPersonId = O.secondSalesPersonId This would make sense if there were always two salesperson records, but because there is sometimes no second salesperson (secondSalesPersonId is NULL), the INNER JOIN causes the query to return no records in that case. What I effectively want here is to change the second INNER JOIN into a LEFT OUTER JOIN. Is there a way to do that through the UI for the class generator? If not, how else can I achieve this? (Note that because I'm using the generated classes almost exclusively, I'd rather not have something tacked on the side for this one case if I can avoid it).

• Entangled text boxes

  Hi StackOverflow, A mere Windows textbox greatly surprised me today. I have two unrelated text boxes inside an application. I can type in either text box and switch the focus by clicking on them. Then happens some event X, which I can't describe here for reasons given below. After this event happens, the two text boxes become "entangled" in an almost quantum way. Say, text box A was focused before X happened. When I click text box B to type in some text, the new text appears in text box A, whereas the blinking cursor happily moves along in text box B through the void, as if the text were there. No amount of clicking on either text boxes can resolve this. The cursor will always remain in B, whereas the text will always go to A. Message spying reveals that after the event X, the text boxes lose the ability to lose or gain focus. When I click on B, WM_LOSE_FOCUS does not come to A, and WM_SET_FOCUS does not come to B. (The rectangles and visibility of the boxes are OK.) The same thing happens in Windows XP and Windows 7. Now, event X: it's a big event in a third-party UI library which I cannot reverse-engineer in a timely manner. (Namely, docking a pane in wxAUI.) I am sure that this behavior is the result of incorrect WinAPI calls to the text boxes (garbage in - garbage out). I would like to know what could possibly cause such "textbox trip" to know where to start looking for the bug. Thanks!

• How to stop nginx on Mac OS X

  I've installed nginx server on my Mac from MacPorts: sudo port install nginx. Then I followed the recommendation from the port installation console and created the launchd startup item for nginx, then started the server. It works fine (after I renamed nginx.conf.example to nginx.conf and renamed mime.types.example to mime.types), but I couldn't stop it... I tried sudo nginx -s stop - this doesn't stop the server, I can still see "Welcome to nginx!" page in my browser on http://localhost/, also I still see master and worker processes of nginx with ps -e | grep nginx. What is the best way to start/stop nginx on Mac? BTW, I've added "daemon off;" into nginx.conf - as recommended by various resources. Thank you.

  Hy Guys, I have to pass in a method action a string parameter, because I want to implement a tags' search in my site with asp.net MVC but everytime in action it is passed a null value. I post some code! • Optimal Instance Size for EC2 Sharepoint Server

  I'm surprised that I can't find any info about this, but I'm not a Windows admin and just a novice EC2 user. I have a client who wants to stand up a Sharepoint server on EC2 for internal use. The team is small (10-20) folks and traffic will be light. Mostly, the client is looking for one place to store documents (and revisions of documents) while making access easy for authenticated users anywhere in the world. They've settled on Sharepoint and have other EC2 instances so that seems like the natural fit, but I'm trying to figure out what to recommend for them. I'm currently thinking about a Medium instance. I'm afraid to go smaller because I think Windows would need a fair amount of memory just to run, but I'm very open to suggestions. Any advice would be much appreciated. I expect that the storage itself would happen in an EBS mount, but again, suggestions welcome. Thanks for your input.

• Using unsigned drivers in Windows 8

  I just migrated from Windows 7 x64 to 8, but I can't get my VPN software to run anymore : the SafeNet IKE service (installed by SafeNet SoftRemoteLT GA, used by my VPN provider) cannot start anymore. I found that by default unsigned drivers are disabled on Win8, and that is what is blocking the driver. The System event log tells me that the driver (apparently, C:\WINDOWS\SysWow64\Drivers\IPSECDRV.sys ) was blocked when I try to manually start the service (SafeNet IKE Service). I get the same messages for another driver, crypto.sys found in the same folder. I tried using bcdedit to enable unsigned drivers : bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS bcdedit /set testsigning ON After reboot, same error. I tried by booting into Win 8's test mode, same issue. Applying the code signing policy (Enabled, Ignore) does not help either. Running gpresult does show that the policy is applied. Any help welcome.

• VGA resolution with Sony Bravia TV

  I just bought Sony Bravia KDL40S5100 tv. The VGA input is acting weird. I have a Gateway desktop with Windows 7 and Intel 945 graphics. I also have a laptop running Ubuntu 9.04. The TV will not display the gateway when the resolution is over 1360x768, I have to wait for it to time out and bring me back. The Intel driver even urges me to switch to the "recommended" 1920x1080. I just installed Win7 using this tv as the monitor. When the orginial welcome screen started after setup, it started me at 1080. I had to start in safemode to set a res that would work! When I plug my laptop into the TV, 1920x1080 works just fine. Any ideas? This laptop also has Win7, which I am going to try, but I haven't gotten a chance yet.

  This is an interview question I faced recently. Given an array of 1 and 0, find a way to partition the bits in place so that 0's are grouped together, and 1's are grouped together. It does not matter whether 1's are ahead of 0's or 0's are ahead of 1's. An example input is 101010101, and output is either 111110000 or 000011111. Solve the problem in less than linear time. Make the problem simpler. The input is an integer array, with each element either 1 or 0. Output is the same integer array with integers partitioned well. To me, this is an easy question if it can be solved in O(N). My approach is to use two pointers, starting from both ends of the array. Increases and decreases each pointer; if it does not point to the correct integer, swap the two. int * start = array; int * end = array + length - 1; while (start < end) { // Assume 0 always at the end if (*end == 0) { --end; continue; } // Assume 1 always at the beginning if (*start == 1) { ++start; continue; } swap(*start, *end); } However, the interview insists there is a sub-linear solution.   I'd like to embed a music (flash) player in a table with clickable images but the embed code seems to throw the table properties off - it extends the width of the table. Is it possible to embed the player on the same row as the image whilst still retaining the table width? • Joining H264 *without* re-encoding

  I have two halves of a single show in two .MP4 files, encoded in H264. I would like to join them without re-encoding. Is this possible? I managed to create a joined video as a Quicktime file (.mov) using Quicktime Pro, but then Quicktime Pro will not convert it back to .MP4 without re-encoding. This may be because looking inside the .mov file, the two H264 videos are in there still separated as individual "objects". I am also struggling with MPEG StreamClip without reaching a real solution. But I may have missed something. Note that I do not have the same issue with MPEG2 files. I can export them to a .MPEG container or a .TS file for example, and then I can join them without re-encoding using MPEG Streamclip. Any suggestion welcome, preferably using Mac software.

• Windows Boot disc to save files?

  Somehow after updating my legit windows 7 OS with no pirated or mod software on my PC i was welcome to a black screen. I popped in my ghost disc and copied the files i need to an external HD. IIRC windows 7 disc can do that too. Problem with the way i did it on ghost was it excepted me to select 1 file (an HD disc image) so i couldnt select multiple folders to move. Also when i did move i had no idea if it finished or how long it would take. My linux live cd couldnt access the HD. Anyways, is there a disc i can use to easily copy files from my laptop to my external HD? I think ghost, windows 7 and windows server all allow me but is there one that is better suited to copy files?

  I am building a Rails application accessing a legacy system. The data model contains Customers which can have one or more Subscriptions. A Subscription always belong to one and only one Customer. Though not needed, this association is represented through a join table "subscribes", which do not have an id column: Column | Type | Modifiers -----------------+---------+----------- customer_id | integer | not null subscription_id | integer | not null I have this coded as a has_and_belongs_to_many declarations in both Customer and Subscription class Customer < Activerecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :subscriptions, :join_table => "subscribes", :foreign_key => "customer_id", :association_foreign_key => "subscription_id" end class Subscription < Activerecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :customers, :join_table => "subscribes", :foreign_key => "subscription_id", :association_foreign_key => "customer_id" end The problem I have is that there can only ever be one customer for each subscription, not many, and the join table will always contain at most one row with a certain customer_id. And thus, I don't want the association "customers" on a Subscription which returns an array of (at most one) Customer, I really do want the relation "customer" which returns the Customer associated. Is there any way to force ActiveRecord to make this a 1-to-N relation even though the join table itself seems to make it an N-to-M relation? --Thomas

  I found a previous question which seemed related but there's no resolution and it's 5 months old so I've opened my own version. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1545583/entity-framework-inserting-new-entity-via-objectcontext-does-not-use-existing-e When I insert records into my database with the following it works fine for a while and then eventually it starts inserting null values in the referenced field. This typically happens after I do an update on my model from the database although not always after I do an update. I'm using a MySQL database for this. I have debugged the code and the values are being set properly before the save event. They're just not getting inserted properly. I can always fix this issue by re-creating the model without touching any of my code. I have to recreate the entire model, though. I can't just dump the relevant tables and re-add them. This makes me think it doesn't have anything to do with my code but something with the entity framework. • How Can I Edit Google Chrome's 'History Provider Cache' File?

  I'm interested in editing (not completely deleting) contents of some of Google Chrome's cache files. In particular, the 'History Provider Cache' (found in ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default on Mac). As this other question suggests, it appears to simply be a SQLite file. Unfortunately, when I try to open it using a SQLite browser (MesaSQLite) I'm asked for an encryption key. So, I'd welcome any suggestions on how to either (1) determine the encryption key, or (2) an alternate way to edit this file. The end goal is to be able to remove specific annoying suggestions in the Omnibar. I've read countless other techniques, but none seem to remove suggestions that have the clock icon next to it. Some say deleting this file entirely will do the trick (and I imagine it will), but I don't wish to trash my entire browsing history. I find most of the suggestions to be useful and helpful, and I'd like to preserve that.
