• Creating Python C module from Fortran sources on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

  In a project I work on we use a Python C module compiled from Fortran with f2py. I've had no issues building it on Windows 7 32bit (using mingw32) and on the servers it's built on 32bit Linux. But I've recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit on my laptop that I use for development, and when I build it I get a lot of warnings (even though I've apparently installed all gcc/fortran libraries/compilers), but it does finish the build. As I'm 15, I won't get a job for a long period of time (I'm going to spend years in academia before that) and thus this question is not about which programming methodologies you recommend me to read up on for a software engineering job, but instead which methodologies should a hobby programmer read about?   My question is how to structure key combinations in script below most effectively using AutoHotkey. My Question is how to use this method most effectively, and is not answered in those threads. • Windows Key is shutting my PC with Windows 7 down when pressed

  I am having a really annoying problem lately with my Windows 7 PC. The problem, is all of a sudden, just within the last day or 2, anytime I hit the WIN (Windows keyboard key) instead of popping up the start menu, the system shuts down all my programs and trys to shut down, the only reason it doesn't suceed is because one of the programs I will have running will have an un-saved document, so it will ask me if I want to save the document before shutting down, I then can hit cancel and it halts the process. I do not remember installing anything and programs from from around the time it started doing this, maybe 2-3 days ago. I have gone through and searched Google for every Process running in the taskmanager to see which processes were REQUIRED for Windows to run, I then closed eveything down and killed all the non-essential Processes and the result was this... The reason you see notepad.exe is because I had it open with an unsaved document to keep the system from shutting down, I then tried hitting the win key after I shut each process down, after everything was shut to just show the above, it still tries to shut my system down, this is driving me insane, please help I am at a lost. I am about to see if I can try a different keyboard just encase it is some malfunction on the keyboard. The reason I need to access the WIN key or would like to is because I have Win + v set up to work with a special clipboard manager I believe it is called ClipX

• ADUC Exchange tabs - Windows 7 & Exchange 2003

  I have the admin tools install on a Win 7 64 bit machine but would like to see the Exchange tabs in ADUC. Googling shows this is a popular request and the most common solution (and the only one which appears to work to all) is to install Exchange Server Management for Vista using esmvista.msi /q. That may well have worked on beta versions of Win 7 but is definitely not working with my OEM copy of Win 7. Can this perhaps be made to work by installing from an Exchange 2007 CD (which I don't have at this time), bearing in mind that we have Exchange 2003 only? Can someone please offer a solution that works? I figure some of you must have solved this by now. Edit: I don't know if this is relevant or not but the Win 7 machine is also running Office 2010 Pro. About the bounty I had intended to award the bounty to gWaldo for having taken the extra steps to try to help me with this issue. However, as I was about to do so my screen started scrolling and I actually clicked on the answer posted by natxo asenjo, who's answer offended me, without realising it. Perhaps if I wasn't rushing I might have noticed but that's now history.

• Unable to load Windows after using EasyBCD to Reset bcd [duplicate]

After clicking that EasyBCD told me to add Win 8 entry via Add Entry Menu so i did. After restart, win 8 would not start. Neither would recovery F11. Attempts i made to Restore : Ran boot-repair from ubuntu live cd several time. Used Win8 system recovery disc created via virtualbox with win 8 preview iso. Automated repair from Win8 system recovery disc Ran following commands from cmd started from Win8 system recovery disc bootrec /fixmbr Result : Success message bootrec /rebuildbcd Result : after hitting (Y) "The requested system device cannot be found" System refresh started from Win8 system recovery disc gives error that device is locked. System reset started from Win8 system recovery disc gives error that required partition or device is missing or not accessible. Used automated repair from EasyRE disc. It gave success message. Used Fix boot problem from Macrium reflect winPE repair disc. Copied Recovery partition to usb. Booting from usb gave this error Your PC needs to be repaired. Error Code : 0XC000000f Press Enter to try again Press F8 for Startup Settings F8 & Enter does nothing I cannot install WIn7 or Win 8, error it gives : "windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."

• Metro Walkthrough: Creating a Task List with a ListView and IndexedDB

  The goal of this blog entry is to describe how you can work with data in a Metro style application written with JavaScript. In particular, we create a super simple Task List application which enables you to create and delete tasks. Here’s a video which demonstrates how the Task List application works: In order to build this application, I had to take advantage of several features of the WinJS library and technologies including: IndexedDB – The Task List application stores data in an IndexedDB database. HTML5 Form Validation – The Task List application uses HTML5 validation to ensure that a required field has a value. ListView Control – The Task List application displays the tasks retrieved from the IndexedDB database in a WinJS ListView control. Creating the IndexedDB Database The Task List application stores all of its data in an IndexedDB database named TasksDB. This database is opened/created with the following code: var db; var req = window.msIndexedDB.open("TasksDB", 1); req.onerror = function () { console.log("Could not open database"); }; req.onupgradeneeded = function (evt) { var newDB = evt.target.result; newDB.createObjectStore("tasks", { keyPath: "id", autoIncrement:true }); }; The msIndexedDB.open() method accepts two parameters: the name of the database to open and the version of the database to open. If a database with a matching version already exists, then calling the msIndexedDB.open() method opens a connection to the existing database. If the database does not exist then the upgradeneeded event is raised. You handle the upgradeneeded event to create a new database. In the code above, the upgradeneeded event handler creates an object store named “tasks” (An object store roughly corresponds to a database table). When you add items to the tasks object store then each item gets an id property with an auto-incremented value automatically. The code above also includes an error event handler. If the IndexedDB database cannot be opened or created, for whatever reason, then an error message is written to the Visual Studio JavaScript Console window. Displaying a List of Tasks The TaskList application retrieves its list of tasks from the tasks object store, which we created above, and displays the list of tasks in a ListView control. This handler is called when a database is successfully opened/created. In the code above, all of the items from the tasks object store are retrieved into a cursor and added to a WinJS.Binding.List object named tasks. Because the ListView control is bound to the WinJS.Binding.List object, copying the tasks from the object store into the WinJS.Binding.List object causes the tasks to appear in the ListView: Adding a New Task You add a new task in the Task List application by entering the title of a new task into an HTML form and clicking the Add button. Here’s the markup for creating the form: <form id="addTaskForm"> <input id="newTaskTitle" title="New Task" required /> <button>Add</button> </form> Notice that the INPUT element includes a required attribute. In a Metro application, you can take advantage of HTML5 Validation to validate form fields. First, it adds the new task to the tasks object store in the IndexedDB database. Second, it adds the new task to the data source bound to the ListView. The dataSource.insertAtEnd() method is called to add the new task to the data source so the new task will appear in the ListView (with a nice little animation). Deleting Existing Tasks The Task List application enables you to select one or more tasks by clicking or tapping on one or more tasks in the ListView.   The goal of this blog entry is to describe how you can work with data in a Metro style application written with JavaScript. In particular, we create a super simple Task List application which enables you to create and delete tasks. Here’s a video which demonstrates how the Task List application works: In order to build this application, I had to take advantage of several features of the WinJS library and technologies including: IndexedDB – The Task List application stores data in an IndexedDB database. HTML5 Form Validation – The Task List application uses HTML5 validation to ensure that a required field has a value. ListView Control – The Task List application displays the tasks retrieved from the IndexedDB database in a WinJS ListView control. Creating the IndexedDB Database The Task List application stores all of its data in an IndexedDB database named TasksDB. If the IndexedDB database cannot be opened or created, for whatever reason, then an error message is written to the Visual Studio JavaScript Console window. Displaying a List of Tasks The TaskList application retrieves its list of tasks from the tasks object store, which we created above, and displays the list of tasks in a ListView control. • How to use tscon on Windows7?

  I need to run overnight automation testing using RFT and IE on Windows7 virtual machine. I found that restarting the Windows box before the testing starts helps. I am moving the production environment from Windows XP to Windows 7. RFT used to complain when running RFT scripts that CRFCN0557E: Activation failed when running under a Terminal Services environment. This may be caused by using a minimized terminal window - try playing back without minimizing the terminal window (it does not need to be full-screen). Running tscon.exe 0 /dest:console prior starting any RFT script fix the error on Windows XP. But not on Windows7. I did some research and was trying for hours to fix that but nothing helped. There is no screen saver turned on on Windows7. I tried to run both but nothing helped. tscon.exe 0 /dest:console tscon.exe 1 /dest:console On Windows7 tscon returns {ErrorPrintf(): LoadString failed, Error 15105, (0x00003B01)} Error [15105]:The resource loader cache doesn't have loaded MUI entry. Error [0]:The operation completed successfully. On Windows XP tscon returns Could not connect sessionID 0 to sessionname console, Error code 7045 Error [7045]:The requested session access is denied. I just double checked that running tscon.exe 0 /dest:console on Windows XP solves the issue. Cannot understand the output of the tscon command then. Any idea how I can run RFT scripts after I restart the Windows box automatically? Preferably without involving any other computer. I was even thinking to use the old Windows XP to make remote desktop session to make RFT happy. I hope there is other better solution to that.

  I want to clear out my PC and setup the partitions. Right now i have it as XP, Win-7, Vista, XP/Test/Spare I notice my PC is pretty good at virtualization, at least virtualizing linux. I also rarely boot out of my primary XP although i do find myself deving on windows 7 once in a while. So i figure i can have it as XP, Windows 7, data partition then... what? i still have one more slot. There may be a more useful way to do this so what do you guys think? My bro has 2gb partition that is used to restore the OS which can be ran during the bootup process. However i dont think i can do that with mine. So, what are you thoughts?

• internet connection drops randomly

  hi all I have 3 PC's at home (with Win XP, Win 7 & Win 7) and a router. I am always connected to the internet through the router (PPoE connection). My problem is that sometimes when I want to search or open a page, my browser tells me that the server cannot be reached, as if I don't have a connection to the internet. Other times it logs me out from messenger, but browsing still works. FTP download/upload also works. If i disable and enable the LAN then all works fine. The connection doesn't always drop on all three PC's at the same time. Anyone got any idea besides re-installing OS? thanks

• VirtualBox: Host OS processor is spiked while guest OS virtual processor is idle?

  I'm running Windows XP 32-bit on Windows Vista 64-bit with VirtualBox 3.0.6. Whenever I run the XP VM, Vista (host) reports 100% cpu utilization even though XP (guest) reports between 1-5% cpu utilization. The host box has 2 GB of physical RAM. The guest/vm is configured with 512 MB. The host box has a 64-bit AMD processor. No apps (other than VirtualBox) are running on either host, they're just idling. Any guesses as to why the host processor is spiked? I've enabled various advanced features for the XP guest in the hopes of having better performance: Settings → System → Motherboard: Enable IO APIC Settings → System → Processor: Enable PAE/NX Settings → System → Acceleration: Enable VT-x/AMD-V and Enable Nesting Paging

• Connect to virtual host computer from within virtualbox

  I'm currently developing on an ubuntu karmic. For this I've installed lampp with a virtual host on apache so http://myproject/ is mapped to my project's root directory. Now to test the website in IE I've installed an XP machine on a virtualBox OSE. Ive managed to get the virtual host working on the XP by adding its to the hostfile, like this: 255.255.255.255 myproject where 255.255.255.255 is the ip adress of the host computer (my ubuntu). Now every day when I come to work and plug in my computer to the network, my IP has changed. so When i boot the XP I have to change the IP in the hostfile to my new IP. Is there any way where I can set the ip to somthing the XP will recognise as the host machine? I've tried replacing the IP in the hostfile by the host computer name, but that does not seem to work... This would make my like a bit easier :)

  hi all I have 3 PC's at home (with Win XP, Win 7 & Win 7) and a router. I am always connected to the internet through the router (PPoE connection). My problem is that sometimes when I want to search or open a page, my browser tells me that the server cannot be reached, as if I don't have a connection to the internet. Other times it logs me out from messenger, but browsing still works. FTP download/upload also works. If i disable and enable the LAN then all works fine. Anyone got any idea besides re-installing OS? thanks

• Windows 7 VPN Error 619

  So I am running Windows 7 Enterprise. This morning I was able to VPN using the built in VPN (Connect to Work Network etc). I had to change my network's IP address range and now the VPN will not work. It just stalls on the Verifying user name and password... message. But then it returns the 619 error. Anybody know why changing my machine's IP address would cause this problem? Where should I be looking to try and fix this issue? I have tried this on a Windows XP machine that also had the IP address range change and this still connects fine using exactly the same connection details. EDIT The internal network range changed from 192.x.x.x to 10.x.x.x. This was done on the entire Active Directory. All machines are running fine and the Windows XP machine, that works going to the same client VPN mentioned above is on the same network. Both the XP and the Win 7 machines are using DHCP served by the Domain Controller. The client domain is not performing any IP range checks/restrictions. The VPN is outside the internal network, connection is being made via the Internet and not passing through any other machine, other than the normal domain machines, ie DNS etc. This is passing through a router and the router has the relevant VPN passthrough options configured. All internal machines are working correctly with other forms of VPN, ie Cisco, Sonic etc (these were tested on other machines, they are not installed on the Vista or Win7 machines). After further testing, this is occurring on all Win7 and Vista machines where they can no longer connect to the client VPN, however all XP machines can still connect fine. This has been tested on three Vista, two Win7 and five XP machines. All machines are on DHCP and tests have been done with both the firewalls turned on and off, as well as with fixed IPs being used.
