  • Linux web server shared hosting file errors

    I'm using a shared hosting to host my website and have some problems with files from time to time. First, one of my file (php) was missing a part of code (nothing to do with hackers just a random piece of code was missing), then after some time a value inside a mysql table was also missing a part, then a whole table column disappeared, after that a whole file on my site disappeared and lastly again some code from a file disappeared, my hosting service says it has nothing to do with them, but this is stupid, how can this happen, no hacker attack could do such a thing, I believe it's some kind of a disk corruption or bad backup. Anyone have any ideas?

But, if i navigate to www.site2.com, i get 404 not found. I do have an index.html in /var/www (permissions:777 and ownership www-data:www-data), and i have also verified that a symlink was created for site2.com.conf in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled. Any way to fix this ? Thank you.

  • Reverse Proxy (mod_rewrite) and Rails (absolute paths)

    I have front end rails app, that reverse proxies to any of a number of backend rails apps depending on URL, for example http://www.my_host.com/app_one reverse proxies to http://www.remote_host_running_app_one.com such that a URL like http://www.my_host.com/app_one/users will display the contents of http://www.remote_host_running_app_one.com/users I have a large, and ever expanding number of backends, so they can not be explicitly listed anywhere other than a database. This is no problem for mod_rewrite using a prg:/ rewrite map reverse proxy. The question is, the urls returned by rails helpers have the form /controller/action making them absolute to the root. This is a problem for the page served by mod_rewrite because links on the proxied page appear as absolute to the domain. i.e.: http://www.my_host.com/app_one/controller/action has links that end up looking like /controller/action/ when they need to look like /app_one/controller/action mod_proxy_html seems like the right idea, but it doesn't seem to be as dynamic as I would need, since the rules need to be hard coded into the config files. Is there a way to fix this server-side, so that the links will be routed correctly?

In other words I want something like this: If the vhost has no explicit ssl config use cert for domain3 (/usr/share/ssl/certs/certificate.crt) Notes: 1.- I for sure will be setting more vhosts in the future 2.- I know (and don't care) of the ssl warnings the browser will show (hostname mismatch) If this possible? how?

It is something like "groups" if you wish. So that owner of domainA is not allowed to access files of domainB. So maybe there is some other solution based on AuthGroupFile directive?

  • mod_rewrite for specific domains in a mappings file

    I have a bunch of domains that I want to go to one domain but various parts of that domain. # this is what I currently have RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^.*\.?foo\.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^.*$ ${domainmappings:www.foo.com} [L,R=301] # rewrite map file www.foo.com www.domain.com/domain/foo.com.php www.bar.com www.domain.com/domain/bar.com.php www.baz.com www.domain.com/other/baz.php.foo The problem is that I don't want to have to have each domain be part of the RewriteCond. I tried RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.(.*) RewriteRule (.*) http://%1/$1 [R=301,L] but that will do it for EVERY domain. I only want the domains that are in the mappings file to redirect, and then continue on to other rewrites if it doesn't match any domains in the mappings file.

    I have moved old version of webpage to some subdirectory: http://www.smth.com/old/. But all resources (images, css, etc.) in HTML are linked with slash symbol at the start. So browser still tries to load them from root path. For example old/test.html contains: <img src="/images/lma_logo.ico" /> <!-- not working !--> <img src="images/lma_logo.ico" /> <!-- working !--> How can I rewrite ulrs to load resources from the "old" dir if urls still starts with "/"?

  • Can ping/nmap server, nothing else

    I was SSHed into our ubuntu LAMP server , and was just doing a svn update, which hung. I disconnected, and since then, I have not been able to SSH in or view any of our websites (neither from my network or through a remote machine). I would have just assumed the server went down, but I can ping the machine and get really quick responses. Using nmap on the box shows all the normal ports open, so I am confused This server is hosted remotely in a datacenter, do I have any remaining options except contacting them for support? Thanks!

  • Can't get subdomain to point to working collabNet server - what am I doing wrong?

    Hello everyone, I am running a web server using CollabNet SubVersion EDGE. You can view it at 71.13.105DOT51 I also run another website, http://www.tutorialcraft.com. I went into my Cpanel, and created a DNS record as follows: svn.tutorialcraft.com. 14400 IN A 71.13.105.51 Yet, if you go to http://svn.tutorialcraft.com, it doesn't load. I tested to see if I was doing some wrong, so I created a ebay.tutorialcraft.com and pointed it to eBay servers, and it worked fine (it's not up now). Anyone have any ideas? Thanks UPDATE NOTES: I tried to point svn.tutorialcraft.com to my original IP address (the one that www.tutorialcraft.com is pointed to, and it still won't load. Also, may be worthy of note, I am running a wordpress multi-site server, and I have disabled blog redirection.     Hi, I need to rewrite https://mydomain1.com/chanagepassword to https://mydomain2.com/ssp then hide the url mydomain2.com/cp in browser and show https://mydomain1.com/chanagepassword. I got the first part working with the rule: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteRule /changepassword https://mydomain2.com/ssp/ [R=301,L] However it shows https://mydomain2.com/ssp url on browser.     mod_deflate seems pretty sweet. I'd love to turn it on across the board for text/html--but for certain pages, I don't want to gzip since upstream proxies need to be able to inspect the content. I know there's an AddOutputFilterByType directive -- is there any way to combine that w/ a header inspect so that if I see X-NO-COMPRESS true I skip mod_deflate?

  • How are suspected DoS attacks handled by webservers?

    I rent a server somewhere out in Canada or so that I'm using to host a website of mine. That website has close to 400,000 pages that I wanted to index today. For that, I wrote a crawler a while back (see JCrawler on Stackoverflow.com). Now, I'm greedy and didn't want it to take too long so I ran multiple threads resulting in some 60+ requests per second from my IP. A couple minutes later, my server locked me out. I can still FTP into it, but I can't HTTP it. As server administrator or user, do you have any idea how servers usually handle these situations? Is it common to place a permanent or temporary ban on the IP or what is typically done? Naturally, I'll re-run my software with fewer requests once I'm back on.
