    I have a list which contains a number of things: lista = ['a', 'b', 'foo', 'c', 'd', 'e', 'bar'] I'd like to get the first item in the list that fulfils a predicate, say len(item) > 2. Is there a neater way to do it than itertools' dropwhile and next? first = next(itertools.dropwhile(lambda x: len(x) <= 2, lista)) I did use [item for item in lista if len(item)>2][0] at first, but that requires python to generate the entire list first.

    Edit : I've got an aspx file (default.aspx) that loads a flash file (index.swf), but this swf needs a xml file (foo.xml) to load correctly. However, I would like to block any request aiming directly at the xml file. Is it possible, using a rewritting engine (isapi_rewrite for example) to detect if the xml file is being 'hotlinked' or being loaded by the 'index.swf'(inside default.aspx)? Any ideas? Thank you.

    Hi, can a MySQL slave instance have different row values for the same ID when binlog_format is set to STATEMENT and we insert something like: insert into foo values(CURRENT_TIMESTAMP) As I understand it, the slave read the SQL statement and execute it thus, if the replication is lagging, could lead to differences for the same row. Right or wrong ? How can I avoid this situation ? Thank you.

    Hello; Why can't I start a line using a parenthesis followed by the keyword new?? For example: (New <custom_obj>).foo(var) In that case is obvious that I'm trying to avoid creating a named instance of the the <custom_obj> because I know that I'll only be using it at that sentence. Note that actually creating a named instance is not a problem for me... I just wanna know the reason why this is not possible.

Really? Why? Wouldn't subsequent calls of the above function allocate memory elsewhere?

    CodeBlocks is not linking extension SDL Libraries like SDL_mixer and SDL_image? I followed Lazy Foo's tutorial for SDL 1.2 but I am compiling my program in SDL 2.0. The compiler is showing an error with the linking of the libraries though without the mixer library it is working. For example: <Recipients> <RecipientsSent> <!-- Have the 'S' status --> <recipient>foo@bar</recipient> <recipient>bar@baz</recipient> </RecipientsSent> <RecipientsRegexError> <recipient>abc@def</recipient> </RecipientsRegexError> <RecipientsBlocked> <recipient>sta@cko</recipient> </RecipientsBlocked> </Recipients> I have this PHP code to implement this ($recipients contains an associative array of the db table): <Recipients> <RecipientsSent> <?php foreach ($recipients as $recipient): if ($recipient['status'] == 'S'): echo "<recipient>" . $recipient['email'] . "</recipient>"; endif; endforeach; ?> </RecipientsSent> <RecipientsRegexError> <?php foreach ($recipients as $recipient): if ($recipient['status'] == 'R'): echo "<recipient>" . $recipient['email'] . "</recipient>"; endif; endforeach; ?> </RecipientsRegexError> <?php /** same loop for the B status */ ?> </Recipients> So, this means that if I have 1000 entries in the table and 4 different status' that can be checked, it means that there will be 4 loops, each one executing 1000 times. How can this be done in a more efficient manner? I thought about fetching four different sets from the database, meaning 4 different queries, would that be more efficient? I'm thinking it could be done with one loop but but I can't come up with a solution. Any way this could be done with only one loop?
