  I have 64-bit WSS 3.0 installed on a 64-bit Windows 2003 Server. After installing WSS 3.0 I switched IIS to run in 32-bit emulation mode as we have some applications that require this. I'm getting a "Cannot connect to the configuration database" trying to get to the Central Admin page and wondered if: a. The setup I have won't work and I'm wasting my time trying to figure this out. or b. If anyone has any suggestions for resolving the database connection issue? The identity of the app pool that WSS runs under has all the required permissions in SQL so far as I can tell. Any help would be appreciated!

• Restore SBS 2003 CompanyWeb calendar from flat files?

  Ok so I have a job of recovering a calendar that was used for an event schedule. The situation is that there was never a backup done except for using Carbonite on the C drive. I have re-installed the server with the same server name and domain. I tried stopping the mssqlsharepoint service and over-righting the two DB files (STS_1.mdf and STS_1_log.LDF) and each one individually each time stopping and restarting the service. Now I knew before I started that this had a slim chance of working but I had to try because everything else i could find involved backing up before restoring and this just wasn't done. Please someone help it is driving me mad I tell you MADDDDDD. ps i am not the genius that set this up just the fool tasked to clean up the mess. :-)

  I am involuntary Admin for a MOSS 2007 site. We use profile import from AD, from two domains: Mycompany.com and AM.MyCompany.Com I was looking at the log for the PEOPLE_DL_IMPORT Content source and it has many entries like: spsimport://?$$dl$$/MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com It certainly doesn't look right. Is this normal? What can I do to remedy it ? Can I start over? There are users already in SP and some of them are in SP groups for permission purposes.

• Emptying site collection recycle bin doesn’t make content DB smaller?

  I deleted everything from a site collection recycle bin and remoted into the SQL server the content database is located on, went to view the WSS_Content and the sucker didn't get smaller. I had about a good 2 or 3 gigs of folders with files in the recycle bin. I just want to make sure that it is getting deleted. Is there something I am missing? Or does the SQL server not update file sizes properly? MOSS2007 IIS6 WinSer2003

  I have some name address that i want to send straight to the void using the HOSTS file but i don't want to use the 127.0.0.1. How can i do that?. Why?, I want to speed up some proccess but 127.0.0.1 is serving a webserver, so if i use 127.0.0.1 then this process will call my webserver, consuming resources and may be delaying the process. Right now, i am using 0.0.0.0 instead of 127.0.0.1 but i am not sure if it is correct. 0.0.0.0 crl.microsoft.com

  Hi, I created one new sitecollection in new contentdatabase but later i changed my mind and decided to create it in the same database as of the webapplication. I deleted the sitecollection I created through newdatabase and bt now when I am creating that site again its getting attached to the new database which got created above not the same one? Any solution for that I tried deleting database which got created after deleting site collection.   In my page I have drop down control, grid view. Inside the grid view in template field I have people picker control. When ever I change the drop down value from 'Select' to another I am displaying my grid view with people picker. Everything is working fine.   How would I design an API to hide the asynchronous nature of AJAX and HTTP requests, or basically delay it to provide a fluid interface. To show an example from Twitter's new Anywhere API: // get @ded's first 20 statuses, filter only the tweets that // mention photography, and render each into an HTML element T.User.find('ded').timeline().first(20).filter(filterer).each(function(status) { $('div#tweets').append('<p>' + status.text + '</p>'); }); function filterer(status) { return status.text.match(/photography/); } vs this (asynchronous nature of each call is clearly visible) T.User.find('ded', function(user) { user.timeline(function(statuses) { statuses.first(20).filter(filterer).each(function(status) { $('div#tweets').append('<p>' + status.text + '</p>'); }); }); }); It finds the user, gets their tweet timeline, filters only the first 20 tweets, applies a custom filter, and ultimately uses the callback function to process each tweet. I am guessing that a well designed API like this should work like a query builder (think ORMs) where each function call builds the query (HTTP URL in this case), until it hits a looping function such as each/map/etc., the HTTP call is made and the passed in function becomes the callback. An easy development route would be to make each AJAX call synchronous, but that's probably not the best solution. I am interested in figuring out a way to make it asynchronous, and still hide the asynchronous nature of AJAX.

• PHP DOM vs SimpleXML for Atom GData feed parsing

  I'm building a library to access the Google Analytics Data Export API. All the data the library accesses is in Atom format and utilises numerous different namespaces throughout. My experiments with the API have used SimpleXML for parsing so far, especially as all I have been doing is accessing the data held within the feed. Now I'm coming to write a library I am wondering whether forging ahead with SimpleXML will be adequate or whether the enhanced functionality of the DOM module in PHP would be of benefit in the future. I haven't written much code for this part of the library yet so the choice is still open. I have read that the PHP DOM module can be a better choice if you need to build an XML DOM on the fly or modify an existing one, but I'm not entirely sure I would need that functionality anyway due to the nature of the API (no pushing data to the server, for instance). SimpleXML is certainly easier to use and I have seen people saying that for read-only situations it is all you need. Essentially the question is, what would you use? Compatibility will not be an issue as the server configuration will match the application's requirements. Is it worth building the library with PHP DOM in mind or should I stick with SimpleXML for now? Update: Here are two examples of the kind of feeds I will be dealing with: Account feed Data feed

  I have just started using Google Calendar API (using Python client). I'm basically developing a web app for a school with Django. What I'd like to achieve is something like this: To make things simple for now, I have 1 Google account and all events will be created in the calendar under that account (this is the school calendar). The calendar will be made public. When a class is created by a teacher, the class schedule will be automatically added as an event in the Google Calendar. When a student logs in, he can see the school calendar, showing only schedules from the classes that he's registered in. I think I can filter the calendar feeds to show only class schedules that a student is registered in using Google Data API. The problem is, how can I display Google Calendar on my web app using Google Calendar UI to show only those filtered events? I can use Google Calendar UI with the provided embeddable HTML snippet, but I can't control/filter events with that (i.e. all events in the school calendar will be displayed). Or perhaps I'm missing something? I read the Data API guide and the Publishing tool doc but I can't seem to find this information. THanks in advance!

I am guessing that a well designed API like this should work like a query builder (think ORMs) where each function call builds the query (HTTP URL in this case), until it hits a looping function such as each/map/etc., the HTTP call is made and the passed in function becomes the callback. An easy development route would be to make each AJAX call synchronous, but that's probably not the best solution. I am interested in figuring out a way to make it asynchronous, and still hide the asynchronous nature of AJAX.

• Windows 7 DWM weirdness

  I'm looking to write a FOSS "Alt+Tab" replacement (window switcher) for Windows, since there are a few features I feel it's (still) lacking; but I'm noticing two quirks I can't seem to fix: #1. (Somewhat Unrelated) In the default Windows 7 window switcher, one computer allows left clicking on a thumbnail to focus the window; however on another, similarly specced computer, I have to use a right click. The only difference between these two fresh installs is the theme. Any ideas? #2. (Directly Related) In both the default Windows 7 window switcher and the DWM API output, minimized windows often have no thumbnail, and instead show only the taskbar. This has been a long running problem with the Windows API, and in the past I've seen the popular recommendation being "restore (un-minimize) the window, take a screenshot, then re-minimize" - but this is sloppy and causes flickering, etc. Has anyone done this successfully using the newer DWM API? If sharing code, I'd prefer C# syntax, but VB.NET will do as well. Thanks!

  I have written a small app and put it on facebook. I got an application ID and secret. It prompted me with the login link, then took me to the facebook login page. However, after I enter my facebook login details, I get this error page: Error. API Error Code: 100 API Error Description: Invalid parameter Error Message: next is not owned by the application. Could anyone help me a little bit please, I am really confused here about what's going on.
