  I'm looking for a log viewing solution for (mostly) Linux and (preferably) Windows too. I want to be able to centralize the log information for a lot of servers so that people in the company can see what's going on for different servers. I would guess this would involve having a central server which accepts information from the various computers / virtual machines with (perhaps) a running daemon on each of the servers. Does such a software exist?

• Problems downloading Full Magento install via purely FTP on shared server

  Hi, I'm currently trying to download a full magneto install from a ftp server. The connection keeps failing, it seems as if there are too many files and folders to scan through? Can anyone shed any light on how to resolve this? The shared platform seems to b e a standard platform based on Plesk 8.6. As this is a shared server, there is no option for me to really do anything, apart from contact the hosting company (who have offered to zip up all the files for me, but this is not ideal)

• Issues related to storing photos in Active Directory?

  Are their any known issues with storing employee photos in AD provided you store them in the compliant sizes and formats? Is there a critical mass that you break or could corrupt AD databases? I'm trying to understand some of the server teams deep concerns with our intent to store employee photos in AD... they fear it will corrupt the database or replication issues will occur globally, etc. We're about a 3,000 employee company.

  Win7 How can I select multiple files in explorer and get a string of text listing the file names like i would get if i selected the files from within "open file" window of an application. for example if i have a Dir that contains 100 jpegs and i select 01.jpg, 05.jpg, 10.jpg in windows explore via ctrl+clicks or shift+click how can i get a text string that reads " "01.jpg" "05.jpg" "10.jpg" with or without the selected files full path " with out dragging the selected files to another window? I've tried copy and pasting into Note Pad and Word Pad and it either past the picts into the the application or a empty clipboard.

• Windows 7 is swallowing a keystroke combination

  I'm using the gnu emacs editor under windows 7. I would like to bind a particular keystroke combination to an editor command. That combination is "control key" + ")", i.e., "control key" + "shift key" + "0". However, it appears this keystroke combination is being swallowed by the OS somehow. Using emacs's "view-lossage" feature indicates that it is never seeing the key. This happens even in safe mode. It does not happen under windows XP. Anyone know of a way to fix / diagnose what's happening?

  I've got a client who wants to move his companies servers off site. As he is only a 10 person company I'm looking for some pretty in-expensive options. One option is the smallest of the Amazon cloud machines. The question becomes can I make one of these machines a domain controller? Cost wise the Amazon machine is cheaper than the power costs of keeping a server (or a PC) up and running in his home office 24x7 thanks to the high cost of power in Southern California.

• How do you create a SQL query in Excel 2007 with a dynamic date range?

  I am trying to create a reporting spreadsheet that can print reports for a given time period. The query below works, but when I try to use a "?" parameter in place of the date, I get an error after selecting a cell containing my date. If I use single quotes ('?') I get a conversion from string to date/time failure, if I don't (?) I get a syntax error near @p1. Eventually I will need either a start and end date or a formula adding a month or shift to the starting date/time to filter the data down to important information. The query was built in Microsoft Query. SELECT FloatTable.DateAndTime, TagTable.TagName FROM master.dbo.FloatTable FloatTable, master.dbo.TagTable TagTable WHERE FloatTable.TagIndex = TagTable.TagIndex AND ((FloatTable.DateAndTime={ts '2012-06-01 00:00:00'})) Any assistance would be much appreciated. • DIrect videos and slideshows fullscreen from another display

  I have 3 displays: 1 control display I can see 2 40" Full HD displays I can't see my need is to play videos and presentations fullscreen on the two 40" screens while being able to control them from the control display. So far I am able to achieve this with a cumbersome set of keyboard shortcuts like: open VLC on control display send to left display with Win + Shift + Left go fullscreen with f and more combinations to restore, get VLC on control display etc. This is really error prone and not professional. Also I wish I have a media player and a slideshow player that can: send the same video / slideshow to the two 40" displays at the same time send two different videos / slideshows, one each 40" display having all controls on the central display, the only one I can see. Any advice welcome, thank you for your support.

• How do I create a script that checks if a computer is connected via wireless or ethernet?

  I am using log-me-in Central to look after a few dozen computers. These computers are used both for home use and work use. When the computers are used for work, they should not be connected via wireless. In the best case, I'd like to be able to use LogMeIn to prevents users on shift from connecting wirelessly. Still acceptable would be to have the computer email me if it connects wirelessly. If I knew how to set up a script that checks to see if the computer connected wirelessly and I could send an email, then I would be set.

• Troubleshooting an iMac

  What can I do to fix my iMac? When I start it up, it just loads forever (never getting to the Desktop). The mouse will appear then disappear, then the loading bar will sometimes appear and then disappear and it just goes in circles forever. If I start up in safe mode (by holding shift), it gets to the login window. However, if I attempt to log in the login window disappears and reappears asking for my password again. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

  I'm running a dual boot system with Windows XP and Fedora 13. I would like to uninstall Fedora 13 and remain with Windows XP only. This fedora document says I need to boot from a Windows XP installation CS to fix the MBR. Is there a way to do that without using the CD (I'm working in a company where I got my computer up and running with XP. Getting the CD will require me contact the system admins which might take some time).

• Hyper-V VM guest can't ping any machine

  So I got Host: Hyper-v enabled machine with four NICs, only one enabled. Network type: External IP configuration are correct for both host and guest (getting it from the DHCP of the company network) The same configuration works on a machine with single NIC But With this other machine, with 4 NICs, there is no Internet in the guest, actually it can't ping any IP expect the host (pings host IP only, not the name) I searched the Internet and did every solution, more than once, with no success.

  (I'm not 100% sure where networking/router questions go this is my best guess) I have a astaro (sophos) white UTM 120 router for work I also have about 11 Voip phones with an externaly hosted pbx (company name = pingtone) Is there any advantage to setting up the phones on a vlan vs making a qos rule that all traffic to my tftp server gets right of way? networking is still a little soft to me Thanks

  I have a LAN with 50 clients and my company has made me do a local WebApp. This is new territory for me, but as I see it, the individual internal IP's are regulated by MikroTIK. I was wondering, how does one make MikroTIK recognise internal domain names for this IPs?   So im trying to creating a combination of keys to generate the ISO key for Portuguese layout, the key in question is the <, pressing it normally will generate the '<' character, pressing + shift will generate the ' ' character. So i'm trying to create a combination while using xmodmap, and i want this to work for all programs.I've been searching on Google and came up with this example for Control + P = Up: Control + p = Up arrow example The example for that behaviour is: xmodmap -e "keycode 33 = p P Up" keycode 33 matches the p key, so where does control comes up in that command? regards,

• Is there a way to have Microsoft Exchange server override the from field in outgoing mail?

  I need to know if it's possible on an exchange server to filter outgoing mail and override the from address in certain cases. We have to set up many exhange users who will only be able to access exchange through the outlook web access. All their outgoing e-mails when received from recipients outside our company should appear to be sent from a single generic address and not from the users' addresses. • Any method to resize my app's window on Mac (macbook) to 1600 x 1200 or 1920 x 1200?

  I would like to make a screen capture for an app (Firefox), but I am using a macbook, so the display is at 1280 x 800. I think if I can somehow resize the window to 1920 x 1200, then I can use Command + Shift + 4 and then space bar, and then mouse click on that app to capture the whole app's window (which will be bigger than the screen) So I can resize the window horizontally to 1920 by dragging the window to the left, and then make it wider by going to the bottom-right corner of the window. But there seems to be no way to make it taller... even javascript: self.resizeTo(screen.availWidth+300,screen.availHeight+300); on the Firefox address bar (URL bar) won't work... it can make the window wider than the screen, but not taller. Is there any method at all?
