  Here is my xaml that tells the collectionviewsource sort property name. <CollectionViewSource Source="{Binding Contacts}" x:Key="contactsCollection" Filter="CollectionViewSource_Filter"> <CollectionViewSource.SortDescriptions> <scm:SortDescription PropertyName="DisplayName" /> </CollectionViewSource.SortDescriptions> </CollectionViewSource> The xaml above works fine but problem I have is that I don't know how to give a variable value to SortDescription PropertyName. I have a property in my viewmodel that tells which property to sort on but I am not able to bind this property to SortDescription's PropertyName field. Is there any way?

  MSDN says that public static members of System.Windows.Application are thread safe. • Label Size is always NaN ?

  Hi, I have a Panel which I want to extend and override MeassureOverride and Arrange to have my custom layout. Basically, the panel will contain some labels. As the label has some text content, it should have a specific size. However when I use label.ActualHeight or actualwidth, desiredSize ... in the MeassureOverride or ArrangeOverride, all result to NaN. Is there any way I can get the desired Size of the label so that the text content is fit?

  I've seen quite a few examples of MVVM. I can see that the View should reference the ViewModel. I've seen recently an example of a ViewModel referencing a View, which seems wrong to me, as it would result in tighter coupling. Given that ViewModel is often described as an intermediary between the View and the Model, is there more to the ViewModel than a facade to domain objects? I hope I used the term "facade" correctly here.

  Hello, I often hear a Model must be wrapped by a ViewModel that the View is not coupled to the Model/not aware of it. With MVC it is common to bind the View to the Model... nobody complains so what ? I am frightened of creating all that wrappers and doing nearly only duplicating property stuff.

  I pass text in a gridview cell with a pipe delimiter, for example "4|31.99|3", What I'd like to be able to do is format this text to show as ------------- | 4 | |£31.99 / 3%| ------------- As you can see, I need the 4 to be Bold and be on a line of it's own, the 31.99 to be a currency and the 3 to be a percentage. Can this be done in code-behind using a converter or something?

Now, I want to add a tooltip for every control. The content of the tooltip should be same as for the helptext extension. • How do you Bind to a ComboBox in a DataTemplate?

  I have a listbox that is bound to an observable collection of Audio (custom class). The Audio class has two properties, DisplayText (string) and a property called TarpIds (Observable Collection of Integer). I need to allow the user to change the TarpID in the combo box for each list item displayed and catch the selection change. I created a DataTemplate that styles the DisplayText property from the Audio object and adds a ComboBox to display the available TarpIDs for this audio (These are dynamic and unique to each Audio). The DisplayText works great, but I can not get the TarpIDs to display in the ComboBox. Here is what I have so far and thanks for any help.   On some .JPG files (EPS previews, generated by Adobe Illustrator) in Windows 7 InPlaceBitmapMetadataWriter.TrySave() returns true after some SetQuery() calls, but does nothing. • Issue displaying a local image from XAML

  Hello, I have the below simple xaml: <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Grid> <Image Source="happyface.jpg"/> </Grid> </Window> happyface.jpg is included in the project and its Build Action is set to "Content" and Copy To Ouptput Directory is set to "Copy Always". When looking at the app through the VS designer, everything is ok and I see the image. However, when I run the app, no image is displayed. I see the image is copied to the out out directory. If I put in the entire path as the source (C:\SANDBOX\WpfApplication1\WpfApplication1\bin\Debug") it works. Any ideas as to why the image is not displayed when I run the app? I read about pack URIs but thought that to just simply reference a loose image in the current directory, I can just use the image name. Thank you.

Edit: GroupProvider extends DependencyObject and GroupValue is the name of a DependencyProperty. I'm getting an debugging message telling me that the property to which I am binding doesn't exist.

  I am making a bar chart and I want two separate gradients for each bar. First I want a gradient to go from top to bottom solid red to transparent red. I want to paint over the top of that a gradient that goes from right to left, black to opaque. So - In the bottom left we should have; Bottom left - Alpha 0 Bottom right - Alpha 0 Top left - Alpha 255 Colour Red Top Right - Alpha 255 Colour Black So in effect I want to take a solid colour, add a left to right gradient to black then take the output of that and add a top to bottom gradient to transparency. All this and I want it to be in a single brush, is this even possible?

• How do I anchor an expander to right side of a ListBox?

If I set the ExpandDirection="Left" the button is between the listbox and the grid but the direction indicator on the button is confusing to users - it point to the right when expanded and it points to the left when it is not expanded. • wrong font in a RichTextBox importing from .rtf

  Hi all, I'm developing a microsoft surface application using expression blend+vs 2008. I have a RichTextBox that loads formatted text from an .rtf file. The text is formatted with uppecases, color, and specific font (helvetica-neue). • How do I get a title or some text to appear in a Silverlight mediaplayer when switching to FullScree

  I am working on an ASP.NET website with VB.NET code-behind. I have a Silverlight mediaplayer object on one of the pages and the user may view that video in FullScreen mode. When changing to full-screen mode they are losing the title and chapter of the video series they are viewing. I have tried accessing properties and searched the web for examples on how I could put a title or some text over the player when in FullScreen mode to give the user an indication of where they are currently at while viewing each video. I am using OnClientMediaEnded to move through the videos after each video has ended so they are able to watch the whole series once in FullScreen mode. I am using a call to javascript in with this method to do that and want to know if there is any way to get a title or text up there and then change once the video switches to the next in the series? The controls on the player also go away when going into FullScreen mode so any help with that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks

  I'm using DataGrid from CodePlex. I have objects (ICustomTypeDescriptor) that have properties 'name' 'description' 'c' 'd' and so on (the names are dynamic, and so is the value) and they have information behind them. I have templates for different types. And if I have to list the properties of a single element I can just bind to the values in xaml and use datatemplateselector (in datagridtemplatecolumn) which will pick the correct template. However, when I'm listing several of the elements, how can I use the selectors and the templates? How do I get the correct property bound to the template (two-way)? When ignoring the need for different templates, using DataGridTextColumn with bindings is very simple (and works, see example below), is there any way to use similar approach with the DataGridTemplateColumn? foreach (String propertyName in listOfPropertyNames) { DataGridTextColumn textColumn = new DataGridTextColumn() { Header = propertyName, Binding = new Binding() { Path = new PropertyPath(propertyName) } }; DataGrid.Columns.Add(textColumn); }

• Expression Blend does not allow to select Solution Configuration/Platform

  Our solution is built using Release|x86; however, when our designers try to build using Blend they are forced to use Any CPU which we don't want to to add since it's going to change the behavior. I checked version 4, and it does not seem to address this issue. Is there a way to specify Solution Configuration/Platform when using Blend? Any workarounds?
