  • Etiquette for adding repository during rpm/deb install

    We're distributing a commercial application for Linux and we currently make it available for download as a .tar.gz, a .rpm, and a .deb. We're setting up both RPM and DEB repositories to make upgrading easier. Is it appropriate to add our repository to /etc/apt/sources.list or /etc/yum.repos.d automatically as part of the initial install? Are there any good reasons not to?

    Hi all, This is hopefully a softball syntax question: I need to call a method with an empty Object array for evaluation and set initial state. In C# I would just do this: func(new Object[]{}); In VB.NET I am forced to do this: Dim ctrls() As Control = {} func(ctrls) Is there a way to shorthand the call in VB.NET and have everything happen in one line of code? P.S. VB-bashing will earn bonus points. ;-)

  • How do I concatenate a lot of files into one inside Hadoop, with no mapping or reduction

    I'm trying to combine multiple files in multiple input directories into a single file, for various odd reasons I won't go into. My initial try was to write a 'nul' mapper and reducer that just copied input to output, but that failed. My latest try is: vcm_hadoop lester jar /vcm/home/apps/hadoop/contrib/streaming/hadoop-*-streaming.jar -input /cruncher/201004/08/17/00 -output /lcuffcat9 -mapper /bin/cat -reducer NONE but I end up with multiple output files anyway. Anybody know how I can coax everything into a single output file?

  • how to configure jetty 7 to use syslog or log4j

    I am looking for a way to direct all the jetty 7 logging to syslog. My current configuration dumps everything to JETTY_HOME/logs/.. After some initial ivestigation, it seems I should change JETTY_HOME/etc/jetty-logging.xml, but this does not look straightforward. It looks like I should create a new PrintStream implementation which sends its output to syslog and redirecting stderr and stdout to that class in jetty-logging.xml. any easier way to do that or to make jetty log directly to log4j ?   • Listings in Latex with UTF-8 (or at least german umlauts)

    Trying to include a source-file into my latex document using the listings package, i got problems with german umlauts inside of the comments in the code. Using \lstset{ extendedchars=\true, inputencoding=utf8x } Umlauts in the source files (encoded in UTF-8 without BOM) are processed, but they are somehow moved to the beginning of the word they are contained in. So // die Größe muss berücksichtigt werden in the input source file, becomes // die ößGre muss übercksichtigt werden in the output file.     My iPhone app embeds a UIWebView which loads html via a custom NSProtocol handler I have registered. My problem is that resources referenced in the returned html, which are also loaded via my custom protocol handler, are cached and never reloaded. In particular, my stylesheet is cached: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="./styles.css" /> The initial request to load the html in the UIWebView looks like this: NSString* strUrl = [NSMutableString stringWithFormat: @"myprotocol:///entry?id=%d", entryID ]; NSURL* url = [NSURL URLWithString: strUrl]; [_pCurrentWebView loadRequest: [NSURLRequest requestWithURL: url cachePolicy: NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringLocalCacheData timeoutInterval: 60 ]]; (note the cache policy is set to ignore, and I've verified this cache policy carries through to subsequent requests for page resources on the initial load) The protocol handler loads the html from a database and returns it to the client using code like this: // create the response record NSURLResponse *response = [[NSURLResponse alloc] initWithURL: [request URL] MIMEType: mimeType expectedContentLength: -1 textEncodingName: textEncodingName]; // get a reference to the client so we can hand off the data id client = [self client]; // turn off caching for this response data [client URLProtocol: self didReceiveResponse:response cacheStoragePolicy: NSURLCacheStorageNotAllowed]; // set the data in the response to our jfif data [client URLProtocol: self didLoadData:data]; [data release]; (Note the response cache policy is "not allowed"). Any ideas how I can make it NOT cache my styles.css resource? I need to be able to dynamically alter the content of this resource on subsequent loads of html that references this file. I thought clearing the shared url cache would work, but it doesnt: [[NSURLCache sharedURLCache] removeAllCachedResponses]; One thing that does work, but it's terribly inefficient, is to dynamically cache-bust the url for the stylesheet by adding a timestamp parameter: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="./styles.css?ts=1234567890" /> To make this work I have to load my html from the db, search and replace the url for the stylesheet with a cache-busting parameter that changes on each request. I'd rather not do this. My presumption is that there is no problem if I were to load my content via the built-in HTTP protocol. In that case, I'm guessing that the UIWebView looks at any Cache-Control flags in the NSURLHTTPResponse object's http headers and abides by them. Since my NSURLResponseObject has no http headers (it's not http...) then perhaps UIWebView just decides to cached the resource (ignoring the NSURLRequest caching directive?). Ideas???

  • Core data, sorting one-to-many child objects

    So if I have a store of parents children and the parent has a one to many relationship to children (parent.children) and they all have first names. Now, on the initial fetch for parents I can specify a sort descriptor to get them back in order of first name but how can I request the children in order? If I do a [parent.children allObjects] it just gives them back in a jumble and I'd have to sort after the fact, every time. Thanks, Sam

    Does anyone have any experience and/or tips wrt using Xcode to build winlib binaries on the Mac? As part of a Windows - Mac OS X crossplatform port i'm looking at an initial winelib port of the app before reworking the windowing to use Cocoa. None of the winelib tutorials ive seen so far mention anything other than command line builds using make files and winegcc, so Im wondering if its worth bothering at all trying to get an Xcode project built linking against winelib.

  • How to cache YUI DataSource?

    I'm setting up a YUI DataTable with filtering by following the steps on the YUI site However, I am using JSON as the DataSource ResponseType. When I type in a value to filter, the request will be sent to the server again. I find this to be wasteful as all the data has already been retrieved the first time. Is there a way to cache the initial data returned and then filter only according to that data so another AJAX request does not have to be made?
