  Hello Experts, We have an enterprise web app to which our clients post/upload lots of documents [mainly images and pdf files] via web interface, iphone app etc etc. We are also using imagick to split pdf documents into images. Also, large number of mysql SELECT/UPDATE/DELETE queries happen all day. Currently, all of this is happening on same server and we are planning to split the process in 3 stages : 1) a server only for database 2) a server only for documents (document upload, splitting etc) 3) a server for the main php web app Is there any drawback with this kind of structure as compared to hosting everything on same server ? • Disassemble Asus A2500H

  I have an aged Asus A2500H notebook, with a broken screen and damage to the outside. Since it has a TV-out connection, and is working good otherwise, I have it hooked up to my television as a kind of media-center to play video over LAN. I want to remove the screen as cleanly as possible, but am having trouble opening up the laptop. I've been able to remove the (broken) hinges the screen pivots on. I've also removed any other screws I could spot, but still the casing doesn't come off and seems to be attached by yet more screws I can't access (yet). I've been searching the web for disassemble instructions, I've found some for a number of other brands and models, but not for the Asus A2500H.

  I need to add static route on MAC OS. I found good description here Permanent Static Route Mac Os X 10.4.0 and followed the Roark Holz's (roarkh) solution. Now my problem: sometimes this solution works, sometimes does not. • website uses an invalid security certificate (Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)

  I am running IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008. I have two websites: www.website01.com www.website02.com I have an SSL Certificate for each website. When I access a secured page on www.website02.com I get the error: www.website02.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for www.website01.com. (Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain) I have googled this error and I understand that it is caused by the fact that I have bound both sites to the same IP Address / Port No. (443). • Removing duplicate images (deduplication) - calculating "overlap" of images

  Hello, I have a ton of product images on our file system. Our code removes 100% identical images (or does not allow them to be uploaded). However our sellers often upload items pictures which are very similar, but not exactly. They could have more whitespace, a worse quality (compression), a different size etc. Is there any way I can calculate the degree of overlap between two images, to flag ones for deletion? Kind of like a Levenshtein distance between two images... Any pointers would be very cool. Thanks!

• Windows Cannot Boot - 0xc0000225

  I've had Windows 7 installed for months on my Thinkpad T60 laptop and today out of the blue when I tried to boot, it started the Windows loading screen and immediately I got this error: Status: 0xc0000225 Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. Through some research, I see people get this problem when a repartitioning goes wrong or there's a problem with their dual boot. I'm not dual booting my machine and I haven't messed with my partitions since I installed the OS. This error is truly out of the blue. I've run memory diagnostics from a Windows boot disc and hard drive diagnostics from my BIOS and neither found a problem. I don't have any backups to restore from so I'm hoping to find a fix for this. Anyone seen this kind of thing before? Thanks

  I've been using Putty for years now and it seems kind of dated. What are some good alternatives to Putty that use tabs to manage console sessions (managing individual putty windows is a messy pita). Edit: I've found the holy grail of SSH clients on SO, the PuTTY Connection Manager. Its the same old client with a new face :). BIOS: SATA controller mode set to "RAID" RAID Option ROM utility: both physical drives set up as one logical drive When I came to install Ubuntu (14.04.1), both drives appeared during the setup process. I was only expecting to see the logical drive, although I'm a complete novice with RAID. I've read that the HP Proliant Microservers don't have "proper" RAID support, and require some kind of driver to be installed. I've tried a few HP utilities from the following apt repo: deb http://downloads.linux.hp.com/SDR/repo/mcp wheezy/current non-free On installation, most say "server not supported" Would appreciate your advice.

  I need to create a working test environment of a domain we have. I need to have all the data from the production environment in the test environment. What is the best way to go about doing this? Here are some ideas I have but I am not sure if there is a better/recommended way of doing this. Use Vmware converter to create a VM of one of the production DCs create a VM and promo it on the real domain and move the vm to my test environment. use some kind of backup utility to backup the domain info and restore it to my vm I created. • "TMGR is Missing" after repair-installing Windows XP

  Hello there, I have two OSes installed in my computer. - Windows XP Professional - Windows 7 Ultimate (Release Candidate 1/Build 7100) I used the Windows 7 boot loader by default to choose between OSes. When I was using my WinXP, my computer gets lagged suddenly and continuously, and the only way to fix it is by repair-installing it (because I've experienced this many times before, but without W7 installed). Everything goes OK. But when my XP was successfully reinstalled, I cannot boot my Windows 7 anymore. Every time I tried to boot the harddisk that contains W7, an error appeared. "TMGR is Missing". Now I have no idea how can I get back to my Windows 7. Any kind of help would be appreciated! :)

• Remote Desktop doesn't lock remote PC.

  I regularly use RDP to connect to my home computer (WinXP Pro SP3) from work (WinXP Pro SP3). My home computer has multiple users set up with Fast User Switching enabled. The problem is that my wife and kids are able to log in while I'm connected via RDP. There's nothing on the login screen to indicate that I'm logged in, much less a lock of some kind that prevents them from logging in. So, is there something I can do to actually lock them out while I'm connected, or at least indicate that I'm logged in?

• sharepoint 2007 access denied when accessing user profiles via ssp

  Guys I have a really strange problem in regards to sharepoint mysites today I go into user profiles and properties in order to setup a property all of a sudden I get access denied. First off I know that I'm logged in with the correct account after the access denied I decided to click on personalization services and permissions I than get An unhandled exception occurred in the user interface.Exception Information: Cannot complete this action. I'm not seeing anything in the server application logs either. So have any of you guys seen this before is there some kind of way to grant a user account the manage profiles right permission using stsadm. BTW all other fucntions of the ssp are working fine so my question is if the user profiles and my sites of a ssp tanks how do you repair that portion of the ssp? BTW the user accounts that I'm using are site collection owners and also they have full control at the web application level. • MacBook Air 2010 Not letting me use Boot Camp

  Hi, I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my MBA, 2010. I open up Boot Camp and attempt to use it, but after the first screen it comes up with an error saying it can't install unless theirs 10GB of free disk space. Right now my hdd has 21.5 GB free. Disk Utility won't let me partition my drive either, so a manual install is out of the question. I need help! My original thoughts were that my disk needed to be defraged to get 10GB of contiguous space. Is this a possibility? This is kind of pissing me off because I really need to get Windows up on this Mac (as much as it dreads me to do it). Thanks!

• Airport Extreme roaming setup

  We've got three Apple AirPort extremes and want to setup them as a roaming wlan network on my company. My question is what's the correct setup for this? All three AP:s is supposed to create the same wireless network "MyWlan" and we want roaming supoprt between them so that client can move from floor to floor without having to switch wlan or reconnect. We don't want to use any kind of DHCP or NAT on the AirPorts, only bridge mode. Do we connect the AirPorts to the lan/ethernet using the WAN port or one of the LAN ports? What's the correct settings in the config utility? Have one of the AirPorts create a network and setup the other two to extend the created network from AirPort 1 or have them all create the same network and set the same wlan password?

• Redirect as a backup trick? w/o modifying DNS?

  I specifically looked up how to do something like this ( Can you set a backup ip for your server in DNS? ) and the answer basically was you can't. If i say specify 2 ip addresses could i somehow use a HTTP response header to ignore it temporary (say 5mins) and go to the other IP address? Or maybe i can play dead however i'm unsure how to play dead using nginx. I then would like to be available after my box notice the other box is down and be some kind of readonly server. I'm sure something like this has been implemented i am just wondering how i might implement it with 2 boxes. I'm sure it isn't very difficult? How might i redirect traffic from a backup box to my main server without modifying the DNS?

• Using a cell phone as a PC remote control

  I have a sony ericsson phone that can control any PC using bluetooth, as long as it has permission to do so, of course. It doesn't require any server software of any kind, it just works out of the box with any PC (or mac) that is bluetooth enabled. Is there any program I could use that has the same functionality? I don't want to install anything on the PC, I just want to be able to use the program installed on the phone. I prefer Java ME/Android/Symbian apps, I don't have an iPhone.

  If I run Disk Scan (CHKDSK) on Windows 7, I get the log in the event viewer. One ISP was criticized for it's low security conditions, and when i heard this i started to think: If one gets an unauthorized access to the mainframe computer / internal network of the ISP, then wouldn't he be able to sniff all the traffic ? Because the ISP is providing the internet connection for the user so all traffic that sends and transmits a user travels via the ISP, right ? What security solutions (talking about computer security) are being implemented by other ISP in order to protect themselves and their users ? If all the connections are being sent via a special computer, how secure it is and how can be we sure that it's really safe ? And what kind of computers are those who serve as backbones for the ISP ? Drivers are virtio and cache='none' Sequential write speed is considerably slower with only 25-50MB/s Elevator set to noop I'm kind of running out of ideas for further tweaks but I'm sure that I/O speed should be much faster because many people are reporting almost native performance with lvm.

• Jabber Breaks in Empathy

  Using empathy in Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit), everything worked great after initial setup. But after disconnecting and reconnecting, any Jabber connection (GTalk and Facebook Chat) gives a 'network error'. Tried disabling accounts and only connecting to GTalk, same error. Tried removing all accounts, adding GTalk, same error. Upgraded to the dev version of Empathy, connected once, then after going 'offline' and reconnecting, same error. If it just didn't work, I'd wait for some kind of fix. But it did work, but only once per install. How does that happen? Anyone with this problem that solved it?

  hi, looking for laptop upgrade, and thinking about SSD drive. Laptop would be Dell Studio XPS with T9400 as i can get one for a very good price. So i was thinking about replacing the built in 500 GB hdd with some kind of SDD Currently two choices: OCZ Vertex Series 60 GB vs. Intel X25-M G2 MLC 80 GB Price is almost the same. From anandtech Intel performs badly in sequential write, but scores very high numbers in random write and random read (good for visual studio?) and i get more space. What do you think? OCZ Vertex or Intel X25-M G2 ? Purely from Visual Studio 2008 and upcoming 2010 perspective?

• RRAS VPN Server on Windows 2008 Behind NAT

  Ok, so I have kind of a funky setup, let me see if I can describe it. I have a single VMware host with a public IP address 74.xx.xx.x Inside that host, I have 3 VM's Web Server - 1 NIC - 192.168.199.20 SQL Server - 1 NIC - 192.168.199.30 RRAS/VPN Server - 2 NICs 192.168.199.40 & 192.168.199.45 Due to Limitations of my ISP, all of the VM's are connected to the host VIA NAT. I have NAT setup for the webserver so all incoming requests on 74.xx.xx.x via port 80 route to 192.168.199.20. This works fine. Now I want to set up a Windows 2008 VPN server inside this NAT network and forward the correct traffic to it. My questions are as follows? What are the TCP/UDP ports that i have to forward? What special configuration is needed on the server and clients since this is behind a NAT Any other advice would be wonderful.

  I've just noticed that schoolmate.r09.railsrumble.com seems to be doing a rewrite to one of my domains, agilegrad.com. This is kind of annoying since that site is the top hit on google when searching for my domain and the address bar stays as schoolmate.r09.railsrumble.com when following the link. I'd like to redirect incoming requests with schoolmate.r09.railsrumble.com in the referrer variable to agilegrad.com, but the following in my vhost config for agilegrad.com isn't working for me: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} railsrumble RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://www.agilegrad.com/$1 [L,R=301] With this on, I see a bunch of redirects in my access log, but only for static files (cs, javascript). This is the first time I've tried using mod_rewrite, so I'm not even sure if I can accomplish what I want, which is to do a full redirect to my domain and have it appear to the user that they are at agilegrad.com.
