• Ubuntu 12.04 + AMD Radeon driver 12.8 problem

  I have a Lenovo G570 laptop with AMD Radeon 6370M GPU. I wanted to install new 12.8 driver from AMD but with no success, after install and reboot, I got a screen with reconfigure graphics driver and it won't work. If I install 12.6 driver it works but I cannot switch to my integrated Intel GPU, only discrete (AMD) GPU is working. Please help with my problem (installing 12.8 driver or switching GPU under 12.6 driver).

• Partitoning to install Ubuntu but already have 4 main partitions

  I want to install Ubuntu alongside of Windows, but there's a 4 primary partitions limit. So there's: BIOS_RVY (10GB) System (100MB) (Windows) (C:) Windows (D:) Data I'm not sure what to do in this situation. This is my girlfriend's laptop and she doesn't want to remove MSI's pre-installed recovery partition, even though I'm pretty sure she's never used it. What is it exactly? Also, does Grub render Windows's "System" partition redundant?

• Wireless ad-hoc network between Ubuntu and MS Windows

  I have setup a wireless ad-hoc connection between two laptops: one running ubuntu and the other MS XP. I have assigned static IP to both the laptops and both get connected quite easily. I can access all ubuntu services like ssh, squid, samba from the laptop running MS Windows. But from Ubuntu machine I cannot access any Windows services like shared directories etc. The Windows machine doesn't even respond to ping requests from ubuntu.

  currently i don't have any driver available for the laptop that i use , and cause of this i only can use unity2d and gnome2. i have ubuntu 11.10 and ubuntu 12.04 installed and no drivers for both. i would like to use unity3d and gnome3..instead of unity and gnome2 or at least have that option even if computer became a lit slower. so there is a way of enabling unity 3d and gnome without any driver had been installed?

  So I've got a brandynew System 76 laptop running Ubuntu 14.04, and if I close the lid, putting it to sleep, and reopen it, I am presented with the very nice new Unity lock screen. However, when I enter my password, and it succeeds, it then presents me with a second lock screen. Where I have to enter my password again, before finally being let into the desktop.   i have dell laptops they all have xp-pro on them.what is happening is i have pykaraoke 7.1 on a disk and installed it on a couple of laptops and it works great.the other laptops say pykaraoke bad configeration,reinstall may fix this.i do that and i8t still doesnt work says the same thing.i even copyed the program from a working laptop and that didnt work.it doesnt make cence that it works on some but not the others.

  In my PHP based web application, there's a form that generates a URL according to the user's selection. The form has 7 different fields, each one of them affects the final URL, none of them is mandatory. The final URL can be: /field1/user_setting_of_field1/field3/user_setting_of_field3/field6/user_setting_of_field6/ or just: /field4/user_setting_of_field4 these URLs should be rewritten to- /results.php?field1=user_setting_of_field1&field3=user_setting_of_field3&field6=user_setting_of_field6 and: /results.php?field4=user_setting_of_field4 Is it possible to create a single rewrite rule that will cover these variations? I'd hate to create different rewrite rule for every possible scenario, it'll take forever... I'm currently developing the app on a Windows machine with IIS 7.5, but will eventually deploy it to an Apache server. Is it possible in both? I currently need to solve it for the IIS environment, and later on for Apache.

• Ubuntu not booting after install from USB (kernel panic?)

  After booting fine frome a live USB I installed it and everything was going swimmingly but when I try to boot from the hard drive it just stops and I have to do a hard reboot. I tried booting into grub as recommended in other questions but it wouldn't work.   well, i am new on ubuntu, and here is the first problem: I can't send any files to my phone by bluetooth, it just not connecting the devices. "Saying Access Denied (13)". Although both devices can see each other and they are even pared. What it can be? I'm using HTC Desire as a phone and Sony VAIO laptop with ubuntu 11.10, if it could help. • Problem after upgrading to 13.10

  I am a new user to Ubuntu and not a very accomplished user. I have dual partitioned my laptop, recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 and also Ubuntu 13.10.Now when I boot into Ubuntu I get a running line of 3's and squiggles followed by scrolling (with a fail on the line "reload cups, upon starting avahi-daemon to make sure remote queues are populated"). If I press any key, but mostly return, it will boot into the password page. Any ideas? Thanks.

Many clients want a budget and a deadline. It's hard to sell a client on an agile project when our competitors do come up with waterfall-based fixed deadlines and fixed prices. We know their fixed numbers are bad, but the client doesn't know that. So, we end up looking bad to the client because we can't fix the price or a deadline but our competitors can. • Ubuntu does not boot after bad shutdown

  I recently swapped from Windows7 to Ubuntu 11.10 due to problems with my Windows. Ubuntu worked great for a few days with no problem, This morning I ran out of battery and the laptop shut down. I rebooted it and now it just displays an error message ( black screen with coding commands) it doesn't even go onto the purple screen anymore. Any help on this would be much appreciated.. Ps: would installing Ubuntu again make any difference?

• Volume control doesn't work for headphones

  Fresh install of 11.10 and the gnome panel's volume control doesn't work for headphones but does work for speakers on my laptop. In sound settings I have Internal Audio Analogue Stereo selected for output (Output tab) and Analogue Speakers selected for Connector. When I plug headphones in, the volume control doesn't work and the volume is maximum through the headphones. On a side note, only one of my two headphone sockets produces sound too (whereas both worked in 10.04)

• Web hosting announced downtime and how it affects FORWARD domain names?

  Our web hosting provider that holds our FORWARD domain names announced that at some point in the next couple weeks they will be migrating servers and that this will cause a 5-10 minute downtime at some point in that week during what happens to be our core business hours. They cite for technical reasons it is impossible to give an exact date or time when this downtime will occur. My questions are: If my domains are set to FORWARD to a static IP on servers not hosted by the web hosting provider in question then will this affect the DNS servers correctly routing to my website? Are their legitimate technical reasons for such a wide window of time, or could this just be a blanket statement to cover laziness in not being more organized with their server migrations? Are such downtimes normal for web hosting providers, or should I start to consider other providers?
