• CSS file pathing problem

  Hi there, When designing a HTML template in my favorite editor (TextPad at the moment) I can view my code in a browser by pressing F11 or the appropriate toolbar button. I have my common css rules in a separate file so my HTML contains the code: <link rel="stylesheet" href="commoncss.css" type="text/css"> This works when the .css file is in the same folder as the .html file, or if I fully path the .css file in the href property, eg. ///c:/mycssfolder/commoncss.css However, in a 'live' situation I want the .css file to reside in a common folder which is accessible from a number of .html files (eg. href='css/commoncss.css', where the css folder is configured at web-server level). How can I achieve this design vs. live dilemma without copying css file to all .html folders (and all the maintenance headaches that comes with it)? I am using Python 3.1 with Jinja2, but I guess this problem is applicable across any language and template-engine. Any help would be appreciated. Alan

• Birt 2.5.2 report generates empty table data when run from a cron job

  I've got a shell script that runs genReport.sh in order to create a .pdf formatted report, and it works perfectly when it's run from the command line. The data source for the report is a ClearQuest database. When it's run from a CRON job the .pdf file is created, except that only the various report and column headers are displayed, and the data of the report is missing. There are no errors reported to STDERR during the execution of the script. This screams "environment variable" to me. Currently, the shell script is defining the following: CQ_HOME BIRT_HOME ODBCINI ODBCINST LD_LIBRARY_PATH If it's an environmental thing, what part of the environment am I missing?

• EJB3 with Spring

  I have understood that if I use EJB in Spring context, I get all the same benefits as if I was using it in "pure" EJB3 environment, is this true? I have googled but can't find a definitive, clear answer. For example, let's say I have a session bean that updates some tables in the database and it throws a System Exception. In "pure" EJB3 environment the transaction is rolled back. What if I for example @Autowire this bean using Spring, does Spring take care of the transaction handling same way as does the EJB3 container? Or what? Does it maybe require some specific configuration or is it fully "automatic"?

  Hi ... The Environment: I am working for a college. We have a couple of labs (about 100 PCs) for students. At the end of the semester, the PCs will be full of viruses, corrupt system files, all sorts of illegal downloads etc. (everything you can expect from a student environment). At the end of the semester, we would like to wipe out all the systems and do a clean install (WindowsXP + a set of application suites) to get ready for the next batch of students. Question: Is there any free software that will enable an admin to deploy a clean disk image to all the PCs in one go?

• Possible to register Selenium RC's with the Hudson Selenium Grid Hub w/o the RC's being slaves in th

  I am trying to get Hudson to run my ruby based selenium tests. I have installed the Selenium Grid plugin, but I don't want to have the RC's running as slaves in a Hudson cluster. The reason for this is I don't want to waste the next six years of my life trying to configure each of my projects in various Windows environments. Hudson currently pulls each project from Github and builds it just fine. With a regular Selenium Grid setup, I am able to edit the grid_configuration.yml file to represent the various environments I wish to tests against, then pass environment variables to the rake task that runs the test i.e. which browser/platfom to run on and the URL of the application under test -- usually a port on the hub machine running in a specific environment. In this way, the machines on which the RC's run don't need to know anything about the source code of my apps, they just need to have selenium-grid installed and have registered with the hub. Is there a way of elegantly emulating this with Hudson?

Do Scala and Erlang use an approach similar to the old thread model used by Java (green threads) ? For example, suppose that there is a machine with 2 cores, so the Scala/Erlang environment will fork one thread per processor? The other threads will be scheduled by user-space (Scala VM / Erlang VM ) environment. Is this correct? Under the hood, how does this really work?

  Python noob trying to learn Pylons. I'm using the QuickWiki tutorial (http://pylonshq.com/docs/en/1.0/tutorials/quickwiki_tutorial/) from the 1.0 documentation, but this alleged "1.0" doc seems to just be "0.9.7"; I suspect that this has something to do with the error I'm getting. • General Questions on setting up Subversion (w/Netbeans) and web development workflow.

  Hey guys, I am web developer who currently works mostly on his own but, some projects require outside coding help (my brother.) Anyway, after running in to the problem of "working on the same files" and "saving over each others edits" I decided to research ways to avoid this. Through the help of stackoverflow I decided on subversion. My setup is the following: A windows 2008 server with a clean install. My desktop which is on the local network of the server. Then my brothers desktop which is at his house, not on lan. We both prefer to use netbeans for development. My Questions: How do we set this thing up correctly and most optimally. Here is my current setup and work flow. dev site: in the past I just created sub domains with my web host for test sites (company1.bythepixel.com, company2.bythepixel.com), and editted those sites with netbeans set up having remote sources (ftp). how do i set up my netbeans now? should I set it up with remote sources? I guess I may need to set up a web server on my local server. I'm just not sure of the work flow. When i hit save in netbeans.. will it update the repository.. then do i need to update the site from the repository somehow? live site: when going live, i would just copy all the files from the dev site into the live site. from what i gather i should be able to update the site from the dev repository? Currently I am toying with virtualsvn server (http://www.visualsvn.com/server/) on my local server. It looks like it is set up to use the http protocol. Is there advantages to this or should I consider something that does the file//. Do you recommend any other subversion software that would run on my 2008 box? how will my brother connect? should i set up a permanent vpn from his house to mine? suggestions? (not that important) how do I deal with databases, there anyway to do subversion on database? I know I have a lot of questions and I am trying to read / make sense of the free online subversion book, but its all so overwhelming! Wish there was a small subversion for dummies guide :)

  I have two instances of SQL Server: Server1 (SQL Server 2008) Server2 (SQL Server 2005) I am executing a stored procedure from Server1 which references tables on Server2. It is working fine in my test environment: Server1 runs Vista SP2, SQL Server 2008; Server2 runs Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005. However, it is not working in the production environment: Server1 runs Vista SP1, SQL Server 2008; Server2 runs Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005. The error message I receive is: OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "Server2" returned message "No transaction is active.". Msg 7391, Level 16, State 2, Line 21 The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "Server2" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.

• The way to find out whole picture width in PGF (Latex)

  I've got a latex macro that draws a picture using PGF and Tikz according to given parameters. The width of picture drawn depends on these parameters. PGF automatically calculates the resulting width of any picture drawn so the user does not have to set it explicitly(like for example when using latex build in picture environment). However I need to know the width of picture that will be drawn. Of cause I could calculate it as the PGF does but this is going to be quite some work(a lot of if statements...). Is there a way to ask PGF what is the width of picture that is to be drawn (some command I expect)? Either inside tikzpicture environment or just after it? Thanks for help.

  I had been using SWFToImage for a specifc client, but have recently migrated to 64bit Windows Server 2008 As this dll was compiled for 32bit managed code, it will not run in my new 64bit environment. I've tried to follow the instructions the developer has presented here with no luck: How to run and use SWF To Image on x64 Windows Alas, I'm a simple web developer and just don't have my head around Windows application development. I may just be misunderstanding or missing some fundamental step in the process. Has anyone been able to get this dll to work on a 64bit server environment? • jquery issue, disable on mouseenter queue

  When you mouseenter .li_group class it does a slide down effect on 1 single <li> tag, everything goes smoothly, but during the delay if you take your mouse off and on .li_group it "queues" the effect and slides the li down, delay, slides it down again etc etc...   I am using VS 2008 Team Suite and SQL Server 2008 in my development environment. I am deploying to a shared-host website with shared-host SQL Server 2005. I want to push changes from my development environment to my production host. I tried using Data | Schema Compare... and it reports to me that it does not support SQL Server 2008. What do people use for this (Besides Red-Gate tools - I use those at my day job, and they rock...this is a volunteer thing for my son's school)? • Coldfusion Report Builder - How can you set different datasources externally between prod/staging/de

  Coldfusion Report Builder is great. One small issue. We use ANT+CFANT to deploy. When we create the report, say in a datasource called MyApp_dev on a dev box. Everything works great when the report is created. We deploy the report to our staging server, which has a datasource of MyApp_Staging. That server also, may or may not, have the live app working under MyApp_Live. Ant pushes the update to Staging just great. Run the report, crashes and burns. Why? It seems the report is looking for the MyApp_Dev data_source, even though the application is using the MyApp_Staging datasource. In digging around I found a few approaches, I would like to do this one, final, ideal way from the beginning instead of having to go back to do dozens of reports differently when I have a new Aha! moment. 1) Obvious: Pass in the datasource in to the cfreport tag. Doesn't work for ColdFusion Builder Reports as of v8, or v9 as tested on Linux. 2) Most realistic option (but painful) so far: Pass in the query as an object into the ColdFusion Builder report. Let's think about this: Create the Report with the report builder to my heart's content using the RDS, etc on my local box. When I'm done, copy the query into a snippet of code, or into a database column to be dynamically be injected at runtime with correct datasource. Modify my "run report" event to find the query from the database column, insert it into another dynamic cfquery and potentially... evaluate (!?!) it? Fun side is I can set the cfquery datasource to what I would need for each environment. When I modify the report's columns in CF Report Builder, I always have to update the query in the database. Is there a snippet of code that can extract this for me? Hmm. 3) Less than ideal. Suck it up and let all the reports in staging run off the live server. Maybe copy the live data into staging (sans structural changes) to let it seem similar. Are there any eloquent ways to accomplish the above? Thanks in Advance!

  I really like gnu screen but there is a problem in my environment when I use it. Examle: username@domain:/var/www$ l Display all 130 possibilities? (y or n) when you click [Tab] to perform autocompletion there is a screen flashing for a very short period of time(looks like white screen but I can see it for a very-very short time). There isn't any problems with that when I execute the same action in normal/non-screen environment. • jQuery val not working properly in Chrome

  I have a simple jQuery function: $('#selectable1 span').live('mousedown', function() { var ff = $(this).css("font-family"); $("#family").val(ff); }); When a span element is clicked (mousedown) an input (#family) gets its font family value. It works in FireFox but in Chrome it works only for font families composed from only one word. Georgia will work but Times New Roman will now. If I just replace this with a function taking a const wchar_t[], then the sizeof() will fail to deliver expected results. Simply adding a size member doesn't really solve the problem either. Making the user supply the size of the constant literal also results in a mess of duplicated constants at the call site. Any ideas on this one?

• Installing ant; clearly misunderstanding JAVA_HOME

  Hey all, I am installing ant on a Windows XP machine, and am following the instructions at Apache's manual site. It said to set JAVA_HOME, so I checked, saw there was no environment variable named JAVA_HOME, made one, and set it to "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_19" When I try to run ant debug, however, it tells me that JAVA_HOME is currently set to "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6" I'm guessing JAVA_HOME isn't an environment variable. But if it isn't one, I'm at a loss as to where to start looking for it. Anybody know? Edit: Oh yeah - it's bugging me for tools.jar as well, but I'm guessing that when I fix the JAVA_HOME issue, that will help the terminal find tools.jar as well. Or maybe I'm wrong. Thanks
