  • In Inform 7, is it possible to use a second noun construct with "pull"?

    I'll eat my hat if I get a good answer to this...I suspect that although I'm a rank beginner in Inform 7, and I'm guessing this isn't that hard, but there are probably not many people here who are familiar with Inform 7. Still, nothing ventured... I'm trying to create a custom response to a "pull" action. Unfortunately, I think the "pull" action doesn't normally expect a second noun. So I'm trying something like this: The nails are some things in the Foyer. The nails are scenery. Instead of pulling the nails: If the second noun is nothing: say "How? Are you going to pull the nails with your teeth?"; otherwise: say "I don't think that's going to do the job." But while this compiles, and the first part works, the "I don't think..." section is never called...the interpreter just responds "I only understood you as far as wanting to pull the nails." Do I have to create my own custom action for this? Overwrite the standard pull action? Am I missing something simple that will allow me to get this to work?

    I have some input to be read by a input filestream (for example): -365.269511 -0.356123 -Inf 0.000000 When I use std::ifstream mystream; to read from the file to some double d1 = -1, d2 = -1, d3 = -1, d4 = -1; (assume mystream has already been opened and the file is valid), mystream >> d1 >> d2 >> d3 >> d4; mystream is in the fail state. I would expect std::cout << d1 << " " << d2 << " " << d3 << " " << d4 << std::endl; to output -365.269511 -0.356123 -1 -1. I would want it to output -365.269511 -0.356123 -Inf 0 instead. This set of data was output using C++ streams. Why can't I do the reverse process (read in my output)? How can I get the functionality I seek?   • Is it possible to parse a stylesheet with Nokogiri?

    I've spent my requisite two hours Googling this, and I can not find any good answers, so let's see if humans can beat Google computers. I want to parse a stylesheet in Ruby so that I can apply those styles to elements in my document (to make the styles inlined). So, I want to take something like <style> .mystyle { color:white; } </style> And be able to extract it into a Nokogiri object of some sort. The Nokogiri class "CSS::Parser" (http://nokogiri.rubyforge.org/nokogiri/Nokogiri/CSS/Parser.html) certainly has a promising name, but I can't find any documentation on what it is or how it works, so I have no idea if it can do what I'm after here. My end goal is to be able to write code something like: a_web_page = Nokogiri::HTML(html_page_as_string) parsed_styles = Nokogiri::CSS.parse(html_page_as_string) parsed_styles.each do |style| existing_inlined_style = a_web_page.css(style.declaration) || '' a_web_page.css(style.declaration)['css'] = existing_inlined_style + style.definition end Which would extract styles from a stylesheet and add them all as inlined styles to my document.

    Hi, I recieve a Stream and need to pass in a IEnumerable to another method. public static void streamPairSwitchCipher(Stream someStream) { ... someStreamAsIEnumerable = ... IEnumerable returned = anotherMethodWhichWantsAnIEnumerable(someStreamAsIEnumerable); ... } One way is to read the entire Stream, convert it to an Array of bytes and pass it in, as Array implements IEnumerable. But it would be much nicer if I could pass in it in such a way that I don't have to read the entire Stream before passing it in. public static IEnumerable<T> anotherMethodWhichWantsAnIEnumerable<T>(IEnumerable<T> p) { ... // Something uninteresting }

  • Analysis Services with excel as front end - is it possible to get the nicer UI that powerpivot provi

    I have been looking into PowerPivot and concluded that for "self service BI" and ahoc buidling of cubes it has its uses. In particular I like the enhanced UI that you get from using PowerPivot rather than just using a PivotTable hooked up to an analysis services datasource. However it seems that hooking up PowerPivot to an existing analysis services cube is not a solution for "organisational BI". It is not always desireable to suck millions of rows into excel at once and the interface between PowerPivot and analysis services is very poor in my book. Hence the question is can an existing analysis services solution get the enhanced ui features that power pivot brings, withoout using powerpivot as the design tool? If powerpivot is aimed ad self service/personal BI then it seems bizare that the UI for this is better than for bigger/more costly analysis services solutions.

    Let's say I have a WCF service which has a method returning object Person. In one of the clients of this service, I can add service reference to the service and start using its method. Now, let's say the Person class is changed on the server, having a new DataMember added. Other clients will make use of this new DataMember, but my client doesn't. Therefore, this client shouldn't even be aware that the service returns s/t "more" than what it needs. Is there any way that my client can still work with the service without having to update the service reference (which, as I understand, means regenerating the proxy & compiling it)?

    I have a class with an object as a member which doesn't have a default constructor. I'd like to initialize this member in the constructor, but it seems that in C++ I can't do that. Is there any way to do it the way I wanted to do it, or is it too "Java-oriented" and not feasible in C++? I worked around the problem by defining my constructor like this: template<class T> udp_sock<T>::udp_sock(std::string host = "localhost", unsigned short port = 50000) : _sock(_io_service) { udp::resolver res(_io_service); udp::resolver::query query(udp::v4(), host, "spec"); udp::endpoint ep = *res.resolve(query); ep.port(port); _sock.bind(ep); } So my question is more out of curiosity and to better understand OOP in C++

    I know the $downloadfile - and I want the $user_id. By trial and error I found that this does what I want. But it's 3 separate queries and 3 while loops. I have a feeling there is a better way. Flex can display HTML, and SWF, it can also call JavaScript - but can I incorporate an applet somehow? I do NOT mean kludging it in as a sister component within a browser, but actually within the flex application itself, so that it could also run under Adobe Air, for instance.

I am writing a huge change in a project, and it takes a few days to make the change, but in the meantime I still want to commit once in a while for backup. But if I commit other team members will get updated with my unfinished work. Is there a way that I can "commit for backup" without changing the revision (so other won't get updated with my changes)?     I did a test and found the overhead of a function call to System.nanoTime() is at least 500 ns on my machine. Seemed that it is very hard to have a high performance java profiler. For enterprise software, suppose a function takes about 350 seconds and has 12,500,000,000 times of method calls. Therefore, the number of calls to System.nanoTime() is: 12,500,000,000 * 2 = 25,000,000,000 (one for start timestamp, one for end timestamp) And the overhead of System.nanoTime in total is: 500 ns * 25,000,000,000 = 500 * 25000 s = 12500000s. Note: all data from real case. Any better way to acquire the timestamp?

  • Is it possible to include a Sexpr before the expression has been evaluated in Sweave / R ?

    Hello, I'm writing a Sweave document, and I want to include a small section that details the R and package versions, platofrms and how long ti took to evalute the doucment, however, I want to put this in the middle of the document ! I was using a \Sexpr{elapsed} to do this (which didn't work), but thought if I put the code printing elapsed in a chunk that evaluates at the end, I could then include the chunk half way through, which also fails.     I'm trying to transfer a site from one hosting company to another. I was using 000webhost until the client had hosting and a domain. Now that the client has their domain and hosting, using FatCow.com, I can not for the life of me, debug my PHP code. I'm not getting any errors. I have a successful DB connection. If you procedurally display data, it works, but when I try to use my original objects, something is breaking and just returns "0:". I have all errors on.     Hi folks, i have the following two regular expressions (in order btw). 1. ^~/buying/(.*)\?(.*) => foo= group 1 baa= group 2. 2. ^~/buying/(.*) => foo= group 1 baa= nothing/empty/null/baibai What's i'm trying to do is, if the url has a questionmark, then split it into two groups. Otherwise, just throw all the stuff into the first group. the reason why the order is important for me, is that if i switch them round, the '?' regex will never get fired because the #2 expression (above) will catch all. So .. can this be re-fixed? NOTE: I have tried using this website** to help me debug/tweak .. but I can't figure it out. ** I have no affiliation with that site.
