• Security flaw in this code approach

  Hello, Am wondering if there would be any security flaw in this approach. I am writing a piece of code which allows users to upload files and another set to download those files. These files can be anything. User uploads the file (any file including .php files), it is renamed to an md5 hash (extension removed) and stored on server. A corresponding mySQL entry is made. The user trying to download the file, uses say download.php to download the file where the md5 file is sent (with the original name). Is there someway in which anyone can exploit the above scenario?

• Jquery.form plugin and jquery.validation and it's submitHandler not working correctly... please help

  Hello guys, I was hoping someone can shed some light on what might be occurring on my page. Okay what I currently have on my page is a simple form that collects first name, last name, city, state and email. Once submitted it will hit a PHP page that updates our DB and echo's back to the designted div with a class of .response. I am using jquery.validation and placing that dynamic function within the submitHandler like so: submitHandler: function(form) { $(form).ajaxSubmit({ target: '.response', // target element(s) to be updated with server response resetForm: true, success: function() { $('#commentform').hide(); $('.response').show(); } }); So what I am getting is a div that is not being populated with the echo from my php file in FF and in IE I am getting the message of thank you but the page is taking me to the update.php script in which I have the form action pointing to. • MS Access 2003 - Help understanding the structure of mdb, mde and be.....

  Hi. I was just wanting some explanation as to what is going on once you have split your tables out into a back end file, and set an mde out for use. When a user accesses the mde, is the mdb still required to get to the tabes (or in order to make it work)? Let say I put these access apps on a shared drive for folks to use. If I split the be end on to the shared drive, and placed the mde on the shared drive, would I the mdb have to exist for that version mde to work (communicate with the tables)? Or does the mde sort of speak to the mdb which speaks to the tables? Hope this question makes sense. Thanks

• Firefox logs invalid URL?

  I'm writing an extension for firefox. Using dom.location to keep track of visited search results pages, i'm getting this url http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=hi&aq=f&aqi=&oq=&fp=642c18fb4411ca2e . If you click it, the google search results for "hi" should come up. You'll know that from the title bar - because the rest of the page won't load. This happens with any google search. Oddly enough, if you cut part of it off, so say, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=hi - it works! But Googling "hi" myself does give me a longish URL - http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=hi&aq=f&aqi=&oq=&fp=db658cc5049dc510 . I know for a fact that the first time that URL was visited, the page loaded, I did it myself. Can anyone make reason out of this? I just tried my experiment again, this time saving the original URL in the location bar. It turns out, dom.location.href is giving a different value. How is this happening? • Fetch request error: no entity? Probably easy, but help!

  Hi, I'm going through the Stanford iPhone course. I'm on the second Paparazzi assignment. I'm getting this error: * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'executeFetchRequest:error: A fetch request must have an entity.' I've copied a lot of the code from this walkthrough site. Running his source code works perfectly, and at this point my code is pretty much exactly the same as his. But it throws that error. Has anyone experience with generating SPSS-format data files using open-source, freeware or home-grown solutions? I'm not even sure that the file format is "open". Any hints appreciated (any language is fine, although java, perl or ruby preferred).

• Help a C# developer understand: What is a monad?

  There is a lot of talk about monads these days. I have read a few articles / blog posts, but I can't go far enough with their examples to fully grasp the concept. The reason is that monads are a functional language concept, and thus the examples are in languages I haven't worked with (since I haven't used a functional language in depth). I can't grasp the syntax deeply enough to follow the articles fully ... but I can tell there's something worth understanding there. However, I know C# pretty well, including lambda expressions and other functional features. I know C# only has a subset of functional features, and so maybe monads can't be expressed in C#. However, surely it is possible to convey the concept? At least I hope so. Maybe you can present a C# example as a foundation, and then describe what a C# developer would wish he could do from there but can't because the language lacks functional programming features. This would be fantastic, because it would convey the intent and benefits of monads. So here's my question: What is the best explanation you can give of monads to a C# 3 developer? Thanks! (EDIT: By the way, I know there are at least 3 "what is a monad" questions already on SO. However, I face the same problem with them ... so this question is needed imo, because of the C#-developer focus. Thanks.)

• Can you help me think of problems for my programming language?

  I've created an experimental toy programming language with a (now) working interpreter. It is turing-complete and has a pretty low-level instruction set. Even if everything takes four to six times more code and time than in PHP, Python or Ruby I still love programming all kinds of things in it. So I got the "basic" things that are written in many languages working: Hello World Input - Output Countdowns (not as easy as you think as there are no loops) Factorials Array emulation 99 Bottles of Beer (simple, wrong inflection) 99 Bottles of Beer (canonical) Conjatz conjecture Quine (that was a fun one!) Brainf*ck interpreter (To proof turing-completeness, made me happy) So I implemented all of the above examples because: They all used many different aspects of the language They are pretty interesting They don't take hours to write Now my problem is: I've run out of ideas! I don't find any more examples of what problems I could solve using my language. Do you have any programming problems which fit into some of the criteria above for me to work out?

• Need help with creating complex UITableView items (like the Settings app).

  I hoping to create a custom Settings view, similar to the Settings application, but with more control over the UI and access to some settings (i need to lock some of the settings). Obvously, there are a variety of UI elements mixed in each row of application's UITableView. For example, the 'Airplane Mode' setting shows a UISwitch, while the 'Wi-Fi' setting has a text value adjacent to the disclosure symbol (''). Further complicating matters, is the grouping of these settings. I have some general questions about the approach I should take: Seems like i need to save the name of the setting, its current value, its grouping, and the type of UI element(s) needed to modify its value. i would like to make use [NSUserDefault standardUserDefaults], but not have these settings appear in the Settings application. I'm guessing that I will need to create my own settings-persistence class. is it better to build each one of these complex UI-element combinations in code or to create a series of custom views based on the UITableViewCell and load the appropriate one? i'm guessing the latter. some of the setting require that i load another view to select its value. assuming that the application is based on the Utility pattern, should the SettingsView manage the navigation stack, rather than having the app delegate do so?   Advice needed for backend form submission to aweber and get response. Scenario When customer signup at my form, I will 1. insert the customer details into my own database, 2. send them a welcome email from my system, 3. at the same time I want the email to be added into aweber (this should run in the background, so that customer no need to fill in details for second time) If I use the php curl call alone, is it a good solution? I want to submit form value to aweber, so that aweber add the new email into their system, and then response to my backend script? • $.noConflict() not working with mootools slide show. Need help !

  I am working on a site http://tapasya.co.in where i just impemented mootools slideshow. But I noticed that menubar that i was using stopped working, it was supposed to drop horizontaly but it is not being displayed now. I have used jquery for it. Please see the source of the web page. What can be the problem ? Mootools conflicting with javascript or some other problem.   config.php put at the root level, this file will be included in any pages. Then at config.php <?php define( 'ROOT_DIR', dirname(__FILE__) ); ?> So at all other pages from different sub/a.php , sub/sub/b.php directories, when I want to include a specific file in specific location, I just need to include( ROOT_DIR.'/include/functions.php' ); In windows server, the ROOT_DIR bring the value to C:/inetpub/vhosts/domain.com Is this a good/secure way? It seems like via this way, when I move the b.php to other upper level folder, I don't need to do any changes to the include file path, which is good for maintenance. Any cons? Like SEO wise, or any other reason... What you guys think.

• Help! I've learned jQuery... now I want to learn JavaScript

  I am a self-taught web developer/programmer. I started out about two years ago by learning how to make simple dynamic websites with HTML/CSS/PHP. Then I started dabbling with animation... Enter jQuery I've become quite proficient with jQuery over the last year and I've even started making my own plugins. I've spent most of my effort learning how to beautify websites with fancy effects and what not. Upon tackling my first full-blown application, I realized how under-developed my knowledge of JavaScript actually is. jQuery has allowed me to rely on its framework so heavily that I rarely use any interesting functions, techniques, or whatever that are 'native' to the JavaScript language. For example: I have a basic understanding of what a closure is... but I am unsure where this technique can actually benefit me. Although as I understand it, that's what my jQuery plugins do with (function ($){//plugin code here})(jQuery). I've seen many posts/blogs/whatever about memory leaks and circular references which is concerning. I'm frustrated because I can wrap my head around the basic concepts of what these are just by reading the articles, but I'm finding that the deeper I go the more I don't understand. The vocabulary alone is burdensome. Let alone how to actually use these techniques/functions/language features. I am trying to figure out what I don't know I'm looking to gather any advice, techniques, articles, books, videos, snippets, examples, potential pitfalls... really anything you have regarding application development with JavaScript/jQuery.

• Zend Framework - tinyMCE - plugin folders are mistaken to be controllers? Help

  Hi guys I'm trying to integrate the tinymce plugin however I'm running into problems such that almost every feature which requires a plugin to be rendered i.e the add url popup or add image pop up - it opens an empty pop up window. Even if I try to open it inline I get the same blank popup window.. I noticed that whenever I click on lets say url button in tinymCE it opens with reference to my localhost and because of that I'm assuming my application is mistaking the containing javascript folder to be some controller or action. How can I fix this please - I've set up mod rewrite to allow clean urls as well as ignore the javascript folder but this is a different issue altogether :( what should I be looking at here.. I can't notice any error sin firebug..

• Help with ActiveX Install? Merge Modules - Windows Vista and Windows 7

  I'm building an ActiveX control installer in VS2008 which uses both the CRT and MFC merge modules to install. When my control tries to register on Windows 7 it fails. Dependency Walker says I'm missing the mfc90u.dll, msvcr90.dll and msvcp90.dll dependencies when trying to register my control and the install fails. Are the merge modules supposed to take care of this? My output OCX is being registered with the vsdrpCOMSelfReg option. From what I am reading on other forums, this might not be the best method, what should I try at this point? Install works fine on Windows XP.
