• How to change the firmware of my NETGEAR WGT624 v2 to DD-WRT

  In reference to my previous question: I can't find the appropriate firmware for my NETGEAR WGT624 v2 router. I went on the dd-wrt web site and I read the wiki, but I didn't see any files or instructions on how to change the firmware. The router database lists my router, but as I said: no files. In addition the "Supported" column lists "wip", what is wip? Router Database 4 routers found Manufacturer Model Revision Supported Activation required Netgear WGT624 v1 wip no Netgear WGT624 v2 wip no ... • nice linux distro for vxl itona

  I'm trying to have some productivity with my VXL ITONA thin client. it is very minimalistic: 128 MB disk, 64 MB ram, with an Ezra via processor. out of the box it comes with GIO linux, I could run from a USB key puppy linux and damnsmalllinux (but I couldn't make them installed on the SSD drive). more customizable distros like arch-linux and slax fail to load due to kernel failure caused by lack of cmov instruction in the VIA processor. I really like to make it usable, can you please recommend me a nice distro? I'm afraid the Gentoo solution is too scary for me right now (compiling a linux kernel over a a thin client is too much) thanks!

• Cannot install Windows 7 on new PC (BSOD during installation)

  Yesterday I had received new hardware and tried to assemble all of it. But when I was installing Windows 7 x64 for two times I got a BSOD, and a error message like this: Your PC has rebooted unexpectly, installation will continue after reboot. I have checked everything and tried to install once more time. It was almost successful, Windows had installed, but I cannot format my disk, open cmd or control panel, boot from DVD etc. It's the first time I have assembled a PC, and I don't know where the problem is, in my hardware or in Windows. My components: MSI z77a-g43 Intel i5 3570k Seagate Barracuda (plug into sata3 slot 6 Gb, there I have also sata 3 Gb slot) Corsair XMS3 (4x4Gb) HIS IceQ Also in the BIOS, I have changed RAM frequency to DDR3 1600 and voltage to 1.65v

• Hardware firewall vs VMWare firewall appliance

  We have a debate in our office going on whether it's necessary to get a hardware firewall or set up a virtual one on our VMWare cluster. Our environment consists of 3 server nodes (16 cores w/ 64 GB RAM each) over 2x 1 GB switches w/ an iSCSI shared storage array. Assuming that we would be dedicating resources to the VMWare appliances, would we have any benefit of choosing a hardware firewall over a virtual one? If we choose to use a hardware firewall, how would a dedicated server firewall w/ something like ClearOS compare to a Cisco firewall?

  I have problems installing PHPUnit 3.4.6 via PEAR 1.9.0. After I discover channel pear.phpunit.de and try to use one of following commands: pear install phpunit/PHPUnit pear install --alldeps phpunit/PHPUnit pear install --onlyreqdeps phpunit/PHPUnit it fails, giving me following error: No releases available for package "pear.phpunit.de/PHPUnit" install failed I found several threads from people with the same problem, but upgrading PEAR to the newest version usually worked for them. Also there seems to be close to no tutorials for installing PHPUnit for Windows. EDIT: I've also tried to change prefered_state to beta; didn't help. I've also tried to get list of all available packages: pear remote-list -c phpunit It gives me another error: Cannot download non-http URL "/c/categories.xml"

• IE GIF/PNG Transparency issue with jQuery

  Ok, this is pretty weird... Here's the page in question: http://s289116086.onlinehome.us/lawjournaltv/index.php The main blue callout background was originally a PNG, but when I applied some jQuery trickery to it (click the numbers in the top right to see what I mean), an ugly white border appeared where the transparency should be. See this screenshot from IE8: http://skitch.com/darkdriving/n62bu/windows-xp-professional I figured I could sacrifice the quality/flexibility of a PNG and just resaved each of the backgrounds as GIFs and set the matte color to white (for now). Well, I was proven wrong because IE is treating the GIF transparency the same as the original PNGs. I've read here that the issue with PNGs, Javascript, and IE has something to do with multiple filters can't be applied to one image, but shouldn't GIFs be exempt from this because they lack the Alpha Channel? Is there any way to make this page look similar in IE to Firefox or Webkit browsers? Thanks in advance!

  Hi all, I have a Samsung N120 netbook (with upgraded 2GB RAM). I'm trying to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix, but when I set my partitions, I get an error. The setup I want right now is: Recovery Partition - 6 GB Windows XP Home Partition - 40 GB General Partition - remaining space UNR Partition - 40 GB I am told that I need to resize a partition and it will take a while. However, when it nearly starts, I get an ERROR!!! dialog that says, "Error informing the kernel about modifications to partition /dev/sda5 - Device or resource busy. This means Linux won't know about any changes you made to /dev/sda5 so you shouldn't mount it or use it in any way before rebooting." I'm not too sure what I should do right now... any ideas?   Hi, We have a .NET client calling a Java webservice using SSL. Sometimes the call fails due to poor connectivity (the .NET Client is a UI that is used from the weirdest locations). We would like to implement an automatic retry mechanism that will automatically retry a failed call X times before giving up. This should be done solely with specific types of connectivity exceptions (and not for exceptions generated by the web service itself). • Unusual Restart

  I am currently running Windows XP Professional on my computer. My configuration is Intel Dual Core 3.00 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 160 GB HDD. Sometimes, the computer just restarts without any particular reason. After restarting, I get an error report, "Windows has just recovered from a serious error." Such incidents happen once in 5-6 days. I don't face any other problems apart from this. Also, I don't face this problem in Ubuntu Karmic Koala though.

  I plan to install a 500GB drive in my notebook (HP dv2613tu/1.5gHz/4MB RAM) and need advice about optimum size and number of partitions to create. Ideally looking for the following: OS (Windows 7 Ultimate) Swap file Applications Data ??? As a long time Mac user I'm not nearly as informed about Windows. I could leave everything as a single partition, but am seeking maximum performance and efficiency from my system (which won't be changing anytime soon). So, would separate partitions help with this aim? And given my usual habit of accumulating stuff, I want to reserve most space for Applications and Data. • Why are 32-bit application pools more efficient in IIS? [closed]

  I've been running load tests with two different ASP.NET web applications in IIS. The tests are run with 5,10,25, and 250 user agents. Tested on a box with 8 GB RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The same box running both IIS and the load test project. I did many runs, and the data is very consistent. For every load, I see a lower "Avg. Page Time (sec)" and a lower "Avg. Response Time (sec)" if I have "Enable 32-bit Applications" set to True in the Application Pools. The difference gets more pronounced the higher the load. At very high loads, the web applications start to throw errors (503) if the application pools are 64-bit, but they can can keep up if set to 32-bit. Why are 32-bit app pools so much more efficient? Why isn't the default for application pools 32-bit?

  Just wondering if anyone else has had issues installing Windows 2K3 server under KVM. I have tried a few times tonight and keep getting "not a supported platform" when the installation first boots. I've used i686, had acpi and apic off and on, given it 4GB ram, 200GB hard disk and it fails every time. I've done some hunting around, but can't find anything conclusive on google. It is listed as a supported client on the KVM site. Host is Ubuntu 10.04 64Bit, qemu-kmv hypervisor. Drivers, I'm not sure what your asking for there, but the disk is a standard (I believe) 32 bit Win2K3 server. I'm trying to install a bulk standard server install. I've done it with win2K8 no problems, but this 2k3 install is failing every time.

• Rails3 environment running very slow on Windows XP, Ubuntu 9.04, Ubuntu 9.10

  I've tried all three (granted the Ubuntu versions were via VirtualBox with XP as a host, but I gave the images all the available RAM my system has). Loading the rails environment is taking 30-60 seconds. rails console, rake test:units - anything that requires rails to load up. And not just on the first go - every time. I've even used autotest to see if it helps with execution time for unit tests, but it doesn't. Any time I change one test, it still takes 30 seconds to load them, and then about 4 seconds to execute. Has anyone else come across this issue? Has anyone figured out any way to fix this?

  I currently have a Dell Studio XPS 13 laptop connected to a 24" HP monitor (w2448hc). Im thinking on getting a second one, however am wondering what i need for the setup (hardware wise). Also I was wondering it there is any down side to it, or something i should be aware of. For example, image quality loss, GPU overloading, or anything important I should know. More than anything Im interested in your advice. Also the monitors do have built in speakers (HDMI sound output), is the sound going to be reproduced by only one monitor or both? • Brainstorming - MIDI over LAN

  I'm planning out a summer coding project for myself. I work with a lot of MIDI and have been researching it a lot. I know it's an old technology, but it works with a lot of music hardware/software so in my eyes, it's still viable. Anyway, I haven't ever worked with writing drivers or anything, so I don't know where I would start with this. So, provided I have MIDI data already being sent over LAN to a server (I know how to do that part), what steps would it take for the server to channel those received messages to an emulated MIDI device, that could then be accessed in music software and so on? Also, what would it take to also send MIDI data back through the LAN to be received by the device that originally received the message? I'm not really looking for too specific a solution. Really I am just trying to come up with a game plan right now and I need to figure out where/what to research.

During work hours the dev will be on a beefy desktop. For working while on the go: trains, client sites, code camps, it would be nice to have a machine which can run Visual Studio 2008 without needing to remote desktop into their primary machine. What do you think is the lowest cost laptop meeting this need? Here are the specs I have in mind: SSD drive 64GB-doesn't need to be huge, most data is stored on servers. It will be paved with Windows 7 Ultimate optical drive omitted would be a plus. weight and battery life aren't so important because the machine will be plugged in almost all the time.

  Hello all, I have a Mac Mini (1.83GHz, 1.5 RAM) with a fresh install of OS X Snow Leopard Server and I want to use it for DNS and web hosting. What I have done so far is to go to the domain registrar and configure a new nameserver (ns.domain.tld) to point to my static IP. This Mac Mini is behind a DI-524 router and I have forwarded ports 53 and 80 to the Mini. I have also added the domain name to the DNS configuration pannel (as in the attachment), but intodns.com gives the following error (among others, and obviously the site is not working): "Mismatched NS records WARNING: One or more of your nameservers did not return any of your NS records." • HP Compaq nc8230 hackintosh?

  I have an HP Compaq nc8230 with a Pentium M (1.86GHz, SSE2) 1.5GB RAM, and an ATI Mobility Radeon x600 (64MB dedicated, 596MB shared). I'm trying to install Mac OS X Leopard on it. I have a legal copy of Leopard from apple, so I tried using the generic.iso and putting in the Leo DVD when it tells me to. It gets to the Apple logo with the spinny thing for maybe 5 minutes, but then the computer just restarts. I don't get past the apple logo. Then I tried using iDeneb 1.3 (10.5.5) but it doesn't boot into the DVD. My computer just ignores it and moves onto the hard drive. I would appreciate some help with either methods (moat prefferably the more legal one), I really need an intel Mac, my PowerBook G4 just doesn't cut it.

• Event Viewer: atapi errors

  Specs for Samsung N120 Netbook Atom N270 @ 1.60 GHz / 160 GB IDE HDD / 2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 RAM / Windows XP Home SP3 So I'm still getting some atapi errors in my Event Viewer. Here are two atapi errors I am getting over and over again: (1) The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period. (2) The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0. In addition, I am repeatedly getting this warning as well: (1) An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation. I just got this back from repair, where before, I couldn't boot at all because I was led to a black screen saying "Operating System Not Found". Still, I got it back and it can boot again, without any hard drive replacement or data loss. So, how can I get rid of these errors and warnings? What could have happened during repairs to allow my netbook to boot again? Thanks in advance.
