• Compiling SQLite into programs that run on Symbian 9.1 and above?

  How can I use SQLite C API’s on any device running Symbian OS 9.1 or above? While it appears that 9.4 comes with SQLite built in prior versions do not. Looking at http://sourceforge.net/projects/sqlites60/ it appears that sQLite has been ported to older Symbian releases. The only problem is this code assumes you want to use SQLite with .net when I want to compile it into a .sis file and call the C API’s. Ideally I’d compile a Symbian equivalent of amalgamation.c and call the sQLite functions directly but am not sure if this is possible.

• Perl modules for controlling browsers

  I need to write a perl script to scrape a website. The website can only be scraped with JavaScript, and the user is on Windows. I got some way with Win32::IE::Mechanize on my work machine, which has IE6, but then I moved to my netbook which has IE8, and can't even get as far as fetching a simple page. Is Win32::IE::Mechanize up to date with the latest versions of IE? But, tl,dr -- more to the point, given a recent WinXP machine, what's the quickest, easiest way to scrape a site which only reveals its content via JavaScript?

• <embed> in HTML loaded by Webview Broken in Sense UI

  I have a WebView that loads HTML that contains an <embed>. When loading in stock android (G1, NexusOne, Ion, etc) it looks fine and can be clicked on to watch it in the YouTube app. But when loading it using either the HTC EVO or Incredible (both Sense UI phones ) the space where the content should be is completely blank. Try this code below... Any ideas? I'm stumped. Certainly looks like an HTC Sense bug? WebView wv = (WebView) findViewById(R.id.wv1); wv.getSettings().setJavaScriptEnabled(true); wv.getSettings().setBuiltInZoomControls(true); wv.getSettings().setPluginsEnabled(true); wv.loadData("Here is the test embed: ", "text/html", "UTF-8"); In my testing, this will run fine on all Android versions, without SenseUI, but it shows blank for what looks like any SenseUI phone, so the user can't click on it.

• How to validate Windows VC++ DLL on Unix systems

  I have a solution, mostly C#, but with a few VC++ projects, that is pushed through our standard release process (perl and bash scripts on Unix boxes). Currently the initiative is to validate DLL and EXE versions as they pass through the process. All the versioning is set so that File Version is of the format $Id: $ (between the colon and the second dollar should be a git commit hash), and the Product Version is of the format $Hudson Build: $ (between the colon and the second dollar should be a string representing the hudson build details). Currently this system works extremely well for the C# projects because this version information is stored as plain strings within the compiled code (you can literally use the unix strings command and see the version information); the problem is that the VC++ projects do not expose this information as strings (I have used a windows system to verify that the version information is correctly being set), so I'm not sure how to extract the version on a unix system. Any suggestions for either A) Getting a string representation of the version embedded in the compiled code, or B) A utility/script which can extract this information?

• Is there a good collection library for C-language?

  We have to maintain and even develop C-code of our legacy system. Is there good collection library that would support Java/C# (new versions) style collections. Hashtable, HashSet, etc. Of course without objects, but with structs. The HashTable key limitations to "strings" and ints is not a problem. It wouldn't be bad if it's free even for commercial use. I'm back to C from C# and I must say i'm depressed using our own libraries and the language in general. We're using VS2005 and MS C-compiler if that has nothing to do with anything. • How can I deal with the ICE60 warning in WiX?

  Good Afternoon, I have created a WiX project that installs a bunch of different EXEs and DLLs. Unfortunatly when I build the project I receive the following warning for each one of them: ICE60: The file fileName is not a Font, and its version is not a companion file reference. It should have a language specified in the Language column. I have found examples and possible solutions for this and each time it is suggested to set the DefaultLanguage tag to 0 in order to fix the warning. Once doing that I then get this warning: The DefaultLanguage '0' was used for file 'fileName' which has no language or version. For unversioned files, specifying a value for DefaultLanguage is not neccessary and it will not be used when determining file versions. Remove the DefaultLanguage attribute to eliminate this warning. So this leads me to the question of how can I handle this warning? Thanks in advance for any and all help given.

  This is my first attempt to write shorthand if statements however am befuddled by why the expanded versions don't work quite the way I imagined they would. Code 1 - Does not work if(document.getElementById == true) { alert("The document object model is supported by: " + navigator.appName); } Code 2 - Does work if(document.getElementById != false) { alert("The document object model is supported by: " + navigator.appName); } Code 3 - The shorthand that does work if(document.getElementById) { alert("The document object model is supported by: " + navigator.appName); } Why is that if I expand the shorthand in 3 to the first code sample not work and why does it work if I have it equal to != false?

• Does any Version Control System like SVN, Git, or Mercurial let you "keep latest version" but not th

  In our project files, if there are binary files, such as .doc, .xls, .jpg, and we choose to not keep their past revisions (just keeping a latest version is ok), is there a way to tell SVN, Git, or Mercurial or some other tool to skip the revisions for these files or for a particular folder? Say, there is a 4MB .doc file that I need to check in hundred of times, but I don't really care so much about its past versions. So if the system keeps 100 revisions of it, that's already 400MB... checking in 300 times means 1.2GB for 1 file and that's not good. Only the latest version is good so that everybody can sync to it.

• RFC Repository of programming RFC's with ability to direct-link sections or even lines?

  Forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this, I feel like the question is slightly off-topic even though it is also about programming. I am inputting todo-tasks for my WebDAV-project into my issue tracker, as I read through the relevant RFC's, and it would be nice to be able to add a link in my issue text directly to the relevant text, instead of just a link to the RFC file with a section number in the issue text, and then I have to use the find function to find it. For instance, a link like this: http://ieft.org/rfc2518.txt#1000 <-- line 1000 http://ieft.org/rfc2518.txt#9.8.3 <-- section 9.8.3 Neither of these two works, since they just post the full text files, so my question is this: Does anyone know of hosted versions of the RFC documents that contains such links?

• Links sometimes not working in WebView

  On occasion links in the WebView will not respond. The highlight press color will appear around them but nothing happens. I am also using WebViewClient's shouldOverrideUrlLoading and that function is not called when this happens. Edit: I have narrowed this issue down to the following circumstances: The webpage is the first page a WebView opens. The webpage uses meta name="viewport" attribute in the html head The WebView is using WebView.getSettings().setUseWideViewPort(true); Android 2.1 (Doesn't appear to happen in later versions, didn't test earlier) If a webpage meeting those above is opened no links will work. If another similar page is loaded, those links will not work either. It is not until you load a page without meta name="viewport" that links start to work. After a page without that meta attribute is opened and then you load a page with the meta viewport attribute, the links start working.

  erm im trying to make a personal bible for my psp (i tried googling but the only bible version i've seen on my skimming is on KJV and im trying to make mine have 3 versions namely TNIV, NLT and Amplified Bible) so my only solution was to make on for myself and my approach was to save an html file on my mem-stick and open it up through the console's browser my concerns are: 1. how does the psp browser handle css and javascript? 2. is there a doctype declaration specifically designed for the psp browser? 3. can i use any local database to store my texts for easier query or do i have no choice but rely on static text files? 4. is there anyone in SO who have experienced developing a page for this console and can he/she give me some tips and advice? thanks much in advance for your responses.. :)

• PHP 5.3, using old authentication?

  Hi. We're setting up a new webserver with PHP5.3 and are getting the "Error: could not connect: mysqlnd cannot connect to MySQL 4.1+ using old authentication ?" error message. After some google'ing I've found that we should set old passwords = 0 in my.cnf and reset the password(s). But we still have webservers running php 4.x & 5.2 that access the same mysql server (different users & databases), how will these be affected by this ? Will the mysql server be compatible with all the different PHP versions ? Thanks.

  I am not fortunate to have access to Apple Safari 3.0 [which has a WebKit version < 525]. Would someone kindly test a Web page for me, it will return your userAgent string and a simple pass:fail. In WebKit versions < 525.… [<= Apple Safari 3.0] it should fail and = 525.… [= Apple Safari 3.1] it should pass. • App stays in splash screen in iOS 7.0.3

  Recently in iOS 7.0.3, my app stays in the splash screen and was not going into the app at all. If i kill the app, and launch it again it opens up without any issues. Can anyone help me on this issue?. I think the application -didFinishLaunchingWithOptions was not returning yes. Note: I have a lot of stuffs like deleting database, initializing a dozen of buttons in appdelegate's *init* function. I know that it is a bad practice to have things in init but since its been there for more than 4 years and was working fine with previous OS versions i didn't find a good reason to change it. Also this issue is not happening all the time. My app size is 40 MB. Thanks in advance...

• vb.net auto detect dependency files for wix 3.7

  I am in the process of learning WIX all thanks to MS for removing such a nice tool (vdproj) from the latest versions of visual studio. I have come to know that I can add my files (and dlls) to distribute in WIX using that tag. It is OK. But in vdproj it was very easy to add all files. I just need to right click in file view, and select 'add project output'. This was enough to add dozen of files that were required for my application. In visual studio 2012, and using WIX 3.7, what options do I have to automatically list all those dlls that are required by my application?

• Why does my app not work on Android 2.3?

  Hi all, just a quick question about Android 2.3. I've been receiving reports from people using my app that it crashes on startup in Android 2.3. It works absolutely fine on the other SDK versions as far as I can tell. Since I don't have a phone running Android 2.3 I can't test out where the error is, which makes it very frustrating to deal with! Has anyone got any ideas what might have changed in Android 2.3 to mean the app crashes? Has anyone else had a similar problem? The following are ideas I've had for what might be causing it... Splash screen - on my main activity I trigger this in onCreate and it displays for 3 secs before finishing I'm using the GPS capability of Android, has this vastly changed in 2.3 to mean that something's going wrong? There's been a fundamental change in application startup in 2.3 that I'm not aware of. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

• Convert unstructured SVN folders to trunk/branches style and retain history?

  I have a SVN repository which is currently structured like so: /versions /1.0.0 /1.0.1 /1.0.2 /1.1.0 /(etc) What happened here is that when it was time to start a new release, a team member would make a copy of the previous version's folder and rename that folder; then add/commit that new folder into SVN. As a consequence, all of the revision history for a given version-folder is limited just to changes made in that version-folder. SVN thinks that each file in each version-folder was created anew at the time of version-folder creation. So what I'd like to do is convert this series of folders into a traditional trunk/branches/tag SVN structure. Is it possible to somehow "reconcile" the revision histories of each of these versioned folders back into one common revision-history tree?

  Hi, I have a problem with my site in internet explorer. It works fine in firefox, opera etc. Sometimes internet explorer won't show my flash banner. For example when I'm on home page it works fine, but when i press services it doesn't show. Also, when opnend in older versions in IE the page get's completely mixed up. The banner doesn't show and the menu bar gets missplaced. Please help. • Continuations in Java

  I am looking for recent work presenting continuations in Java. I have come across the same question here but it dates back for a year or two. There is some work such as JavaFlow by Apache, RIFE Continuations (that I cannot download for any reason now). Also there is a blog post mentioning the support in JDK but it seems that the support will span to Java 8. I also reckon that continuations are also introduced in recent Scala versions. I am looking for implementations in Java presenting the continuations concept. And, I am not looking for the works that present continuation-passing-style (CSP). I'd be thankful for any other work you might know.

• When is it useful to define your own delegates instead of using the generics?

  I've been going through some old code, where I came across some custom defined delegates, which are used thus: private delegate void ListenDelegate(UdpClient listener, bool multicast); private void ListenOn(UdpClient listener, bool multicast) { new ListenDelegate(_ListenLoop).BeginInvoke(listener, multicast, null, null); } With some of the new .NET framework versions, you can do the following: private void ListenOn(UdpClient listener, bool multicast) { new Action<UdpClient, bool>(_ListenLoop).BeginInvoke(listener, multicast, null, null); } This ought to be exactly the same. Is there any point in defining your own delegates, when the generic delegates seem to do the same job with less space? Or have I missed something about the generics that makes them not equivalent?

• Seam + hibernate + jsf on weblogic

  I'm making a little project with Seam, Hibernate and JSF. This project run on JBoss 5.1. My boss wants to deploy this project on WebLogic. I read on the seam documentation that seam and WebLogic don't work fine together. I would like to know if I can use Hibernate (with JPA) and JSF on WebLogic and what framework (struts, spring?) I can use to replace Seam. Edit: I read in the seam documentation (chapter 39, weblogic integration) and I find that: For several releases of Weblogic there has been an issue with how Weblogic generates stubs and compiles EJB's that use variable arguments in their methods. This is confirmed in the Weblogic 9.X and 10.0.MP1 versions. Unfortunately the 10.3 version only partially addresses the issue as detailed below. So, I want to know if other problems like this exist. • Are self-described / auto-descriptive services loosely or tightly coupled in a SOA architecture ?

  I consider a self-described / auto-descriptive service as a good thing in a SOA architecture, since (almost) everything you know to call the service is present in the service contract (such a WSDL). Sample of a non self-described service for me is Facebook Query Language (FQL http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/FQL), or any web service exchanging XML flow in a one String parameter for then parsing XML and performing treatments. Last ones seem further more technically decoupled, since technically you can switch implementations without technical impact on the caller, handling compatibility between implementations/versions at a business level. On the other side, having no strong interface (diluted into the service and its version), make the service tightly coupled to the existing implementation (more difficulty to interchange the service and to ensure perfect compatibility).   Hi gents, As someone who's been stuck at the older versions of Delphi and upgraded to D2010 lately, I figure I still use the language, RTL and VCL features from the D5 era and refrain from using these new features as the documents on those are somewhat decentralized around the blogosphere. So I'd like to ask if there was an assorted list like what's new docs of Python's - clear and concise to the point. Btw, please no screencasts. They seem to be quite abundant lately (probably because of CodeRages) but I find them very unintuitive to learn from. Let's leave that docs in video format thing to RoR community, shall we :).

• Serializing System.Drawing.Color in .NET

  Hi all, I've used the default .NET serialization for a class with a System.Drawing.Color member. The code is now in use by people, and I need to add an extra member to the class, but still deserialize older versions. So I tried the standard way of doing this: The ISerializable interface, using SerializationInfo methods to get the int and string members. The problem: My class also has a System.Drawing.Color member, but SerializationInfo doesn't provide a "GetColor" method read this data type. I've tried getting it as an int and as a string, and casting it to System.Drawing.Color, but no luck. Does anyone know how to deserialize a System.Drawing.Color from SerializationInfo? Thanx! Alan
