    I seem to have lost the association from .sql files to the default VS T-SQL editor. I'm using Visual Studio 2008. When i open a .sql file it opens using a text editor with no syntax highlighting. How do I reassociate all .sql files with the default T-SQL editor while inside Visual Studio?

  • VS 2008 hangs(slow) when I select "File > Open > Web Site..."

    When I try to select the following "File Open Web Site" or use the shortcut key "Shift + Alt + O" (which does the same), Visual Studio 2008 hangs with the loading mouse icon for about 8-10 seconds then the file. But if I do "File Open Project/Solution.." or "File Open File..." the explorer window comes up in under a second, instantly most times. Computer Specs: Windows 7 x64 Visual Studio 2008 Pro Edition with Service Pack 1 Intel Core2 Due e6420 @ 3.2GHz 4GB DDR2

  • How do you add a listbox as an input parameter UI element in SSRS 2008?

    I have to add a listbox/dropdownlist to a report in a Visual Studio Business Intelligence project, allowing users to filter a DataSet by the Id of the entity chosen in the listbox. I heard this was possible, but there is no option to add a listbox in the Toolbox in Visual Studio, and looking at the Report Definition on microsoft.com, there's nothing there about a listbox. What am I doing wrong here?

  • Using the Windows 7 and DirectX SDKs with VS2005

    I have Visual Studio 2005 and want to teach myself DirectX in my free time. I downloaded the latest Windows 7 and DirectX SDKs. According to Microsoft's website, the latest DirectX SDK is not compatible with Visual Studio 2005 (I assume they mean it's not compatible with the SDK it came with). Can I configure VS2005 to use the SDKs I downloaded instead of the SDK it came with? If so, is there anything I should be particularly careful with?

    I'm looking at building some unit tests to ascertain if resources are leaking (or not) using the unit testing framework that comes with Visual Studio. At present, I'm evaluating the latest version of ANTS Profiler, but I can't quite work out if it allows me to force a snapshot from code (so that I can take a snapshot, run a unit test a few hundred times, force a garbage collection, and take another snapshot, and save the results out for later analysis). Is this possible to do with ANTS/Visual Studio or should I be exploring options with other profilers?

    Hello, When I start a new Visual C# Silverlight project in the official release version (not the beta or the release candidate--the official release version) of Visual Studio 2010, I get only Silverlight 3 as an option in the Silverlight Version dropdown at the New Silverlight Application dialog box. I have installed SL 4, the SL4 tools for VS 2010, to no avail. I am running Windows XP SP3. Any ideas??? Thank you, Jon

    Are we reduced to ClickOnce to manage our application state for our users? We use Visual Patch currently. When our users update (we reproduced this) we get errors from the updated versions to our compiled versions. Since our developer state is not 'updated' with Visual Patch how can we monitor and eventual squash the various System.MethodNotFound, and System.NullReferenceException in our updated versions of our application?

    I know this is completely subjective, but I'm curious: do you use separate filters for headers and source files in your Visual Studio solutions? Visual Studio creates "Header Files" and "Source Files" filters by default. To me, this dichotomy causes more annoyance than anything else. What's your take on this?

    This may be a silly question but I was under the impression that it was possible to use IronRuby and MS Visual Studio 2010 together to sort of build interfaces\edit XAML in one window and code ruby in the other? Is this only possible to do with C#, Basic and C++ ? I've browsed SO and seen some IronRuby snippets like this one: button1.click do |sender, args| MessageBox.show("Hello World!") end So it stands to reason you can create GUIs somehow, but is the visual gui creator not available for ironruby?

  • Dll resources in resource editor: Where do they come from?

    Hi, I have a small C++ dll which was written in Visual Studio (of course). In the solution code, I have a resource file that includes only version information. The strange dact is, that when I frag the compiled dll to Visual Studio, it opens a resource viewer with bitmaps, dialogs and a string table - where do all of them come from??     Hi, I am not sure if my question title makes sense to you or not. I am seeing many cool applications which have cool animations/effects. I would like to learn how to use python to create this kind of GUI applications under Linux. "cool animation/effects" like 3D wall in Cooliris which is written in flash and compiz effects with opengl. I also heard of some python GUI library like wxPython and pyQT. Since I am completely new to python GUI programming, can anyone suggest me where to start and what I should learn to achieve and create such application? maybe learn pyQT with openGL feature? pyopengl binding? I have no clue on where to start. thank you very much for your time and suggestion. By the way, in case if someone need to know which kind of application I am going to create, well, just any kind of applications. maybe photo explorer with 3D wall, maybe IM client, maybe facebook client etc...

  • Untrusted file not showing unblock button windows 7

    I downloaded a dll but cannot use it as it is considered untrusted. I opened it using: Notepad.exe filepath\filename:zone.identifier and it informed me that that the file was in zone 3. Despite this I do not get an unblock button in the properties page for the file. Not being able to unblock it with this button I instead changed the value in notepad and saved my changes. When I reopen the zone.identifier info it is as I left it. I have set it to both 2 (trusted) and 0 (no information), but still am unable to use the files. Any one have any ideas? If I cannot unblock the files I will investigate turning this blocking off, but as a first step I'd like to try and just unblock this one file. Note: using Windows 7 Ultimate edition. It is when using MSTest from within Visual Studio 2008 that I hit problems.
