    Hi, I'd like to know how to control my application's volume from the volume keys ( contrary to my belief , I've read they control only the ringer volume). Should I overwrite the onKey Down/Up ? , or is there other way to accomplish this ? . I'm asking because if I overwrite the upper mentioned function for an activity, then the functions will receive the event only if a view associated with the this activity has the focus, and I looking for something "Globaly" ( to work no matter what activity is running now)

    Hi, In the application I am developing, I would like to send messages in the form of JSON objects to a Django Server and parse the JSON response from the server and populate a custom listview. From the little JSON knowledge I have, I thought this format for the response from server { "post": { "username": "someusername", "message": "this is a sweet message", "image": "http://localhost/someimage.jpg", "time": "present time" }, } How much knowledge of JSON should I have to accomplish this purpose? Emulator]emulator: ERROR: the user data image is used by another emulator. aborting Each time I have to re-run it but all in vain. How can I improve this so that I can re-run the application on same AVD?

  • how to debug "deep" crashes in Android?

    Hi All, I've been trying to debug an android crash that is occurring without a Java Stack Trace... Java Stack Trace bugs are very easy for me to fix... but this bug I'm getting seems to be crashing inside the "NDK" or whatever it is the deep internals of Android are called... I've made no modifications to the NDK btw... I just dunno what else to call that layer hehe. Anyway I'm mainly looking for advice on deep-debug methods, rather than help with this specific problem... because I doubt I can post all the source code involved... so really I just need to know how to set breakpoints at the deep layers or whatever other methods there are to trace deep-crashes to their source... so I will briefly describe the bug and then post a LogCat. I have an app with 7 Activities Activity_INTRO Activity_EULA Activity_MAIN Activity_Contact Activity_News Activity_Library Activity_More INTRO is the initiating one... it fades in some company logos... after displaying them for a set time it jumps to the EULA activity... after the user accepts the EULA, it jumps to MAIN... MAIN then creates a TabHost and populates it with the 4 remaining activities now heres the thing... when I click on say, the More tab of the TabHost, the app pauses for a few seconds and then hard-crashes... no java stack trace, but an actual ASM level trace with the registers and IP and stack... the same thing occurs no matter which tab I select, Contact, News, Library, More... all of them crash with the same hard-crash if however I set the manifest to start the app at Activity_MAIN, bypassing the INTRO and EULA, then these crashes do not occur... so something is lingering from those opening activities that is somehow hosing the TabHost'ed Activities... and I'm wondering what the hell that could be... because I'm using finish() on those activites when they need to jump... in fact here is how I'm doing it let me know if you see any bugs: when jumping from INTRO to EULA I do: //Display the EULA Intent newIntent = new Intent (avi, Activity_EULA.class);   • Network access when the Android phone is asleep

    I'm using a combination of alarm (set with AlarmManager) and background service to periodically synchronize data in my application. The only problem I have is that when sleep policy terminates Wi-Fi connection the synchronization no longer works. Is there a way to "wake up" the Wi-Fi connection that has been put to sleep? GMail somehow manages to do that because it notifies me about new e-mail even if the phone entered sleep mode.

I am able to create the cursor using this line of code: Cursor c = getContentResolver().query(GPSContentProvider.CONTENT_URI, null, null, null, null); startManagingCursor(c); However, when I make a call to move to the first row in the database or even try to close the cursor using c.close(); I receive a NullPointerException.

    I am writing a content provider for this application and in my content provider I am opening a database connection, running a query and returning the cursor of results to the calling program. If I close this database connection in the provider, the cursor has no results. If I leave it open, I get "leak found" errors in my DDMS log. What am I missing here?     How can you change application colors on the fly? I am currently using the following to change the background: LinearLayout mScreen = (LinearLayout) findViewById(R.id.main); mScreen.setBackgroundColor( mycolor ); I tried to use Style's to change the text using: @color/white The problem is that Spinners/Buttons and Spinner-Popup-Lists all change to white text as well, making them unreadable. I have over 20 Classes in my app that all need to be able to change color combination's.
