• Installed mountain lion, getting a python virtual env error?

  I recently installed mountain lion (10.8) and when I open up my terminal I get this message: Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 1, in <module> ImportError: No module named virtualenvwrapper.hook_loader virtualenvwrapper.sh: There was a problem running the initialization hooks. If Python could not import the module virtualenvwrapper.hook_loader, check that virtualenv has been installed for VIRTUALENVWRAPPER_PYTHON=/usr/bin/python and that PATH is set properly. Before I try and fix this, I was hoping someone could guide me as I haven't touched python in a while and I don't want to mess up this installation.

• Replication in PG 9 between Windows and Linux boxes

  I have PostgreSQL 9 running on Windows 2003 SP2. I am trying to replicate it on a Fedora 12 system running PostgreSQL 9 as well. I am hitting this error message: /usr/pgsql-9.0/bin/postgres -D /var/lib/pgsql/9.0/data/ -p 5432 2011-02-11 17:43:26 ISTFATAL: incorrect checksum in control file Because of firewall restrictions, I could not follow the official instructions to the letter. Instead, I zipped the contents of the data directory when the server was offline and copied that to the Linux box. I ran a sha1deep on both directories and there were no mismatches. I changed the rights so that only the postgres user and group had access to the files. Now, what can I do for replication to work? I tried with a 'pg_dumpall', but the system complains that the database IDs do no match.

• Wildcards not being substituted

Does anyone have an idea of why? Please note: If global expansion fails, the pattern is not substituted.   I am making a web server running LAMP and want to access it using SSH. When I open the passwd file, I see all those accounts and I want to know for which ones I can put false. I have the following accounts: root, daemon, bin, sys, sync, games, man, lp, mail, news, uucp, proxy, www-data backup, list, irc, gnats, nobody, libuuid, syslog, messagebus, whoopsie, mandscape, sshd, eric Except root, sshd and eric, which ones should I not disable? • pure-ftpd debian, can't get www-data user working

  I'm trying to add FTP access to the apache web files, in the past I have done this with an ftpuser and group arrangement. This time I would like to make it possible to login directly as www-data (the default apache user on debian) to make things a bit cleaner. • How to enable the php 5.4.x version on Mountain Lion

  I have installed the latest php version on my mountain lion system using these instructions (http://mac.tutsplus.com/tutorials/server/upgrading-the-native-php-installation-on-os-x-mountain-lion/). I even put /usr/local/bin first in my path variable, so when I run php -v at the command line I get php v5.4.x The problem is that when I run a simple script (with the phpinfo() function inside) the page tells me that I am running the old 5.3.x php version that comes pre-installed with mac os mountain lion. I even tried to restart apache, but the problem remains. Any ideas on this one? Thank you.

  Hello. I have a very simple task to accomplish: to start tomcat application server on latest MacOS as a daemon. I have performed following steps: Installed Tomcat in /Library/Tomcat/Home Validated that it runs fine by executed /Library/Tomcat/Home/bin/startup.sh Added org.apache.tomcat.plist file to /Library/LaunchDaemons as found on internet (http://blog.i18n.ro/complete-guide-for-installing-hudson-ci-on-os-x-10-6/) Instructed MacOS to load a daemon description via sudo launchctl load org.apache.tomcat.plist. It succeeded (issuing this command second time outputs "already loaded"). Instructed MacOS to start a daeon via sudo launchctl start org.apache.tomcat.plist At this point MacOS shows an error "launchctl start error: No such process". I have checked the logfile for launchd - it have no record for this error. Google says nothing. And from error text i can't figure out what is the "process" and why it is "wrong" :(. Any hints what i'm doing wrong?

  Hi. I have a problem with nginx/logrotate. The problems is that nginx is logging access to 2 files (main and data). • Mac - Run java program at launch

  I want to launch a java program (server program) at computer start up. I can run it from the command line perfectly. I created /Library/Server/startFS.sh. The file is executable by root and contains: cd /Library/Server/FiloSync /usr/bin/java -jar /Library/Server/FiloSync/filosync-server-latest.jar -p 7000 -s 7001 I can't get my launchd plist included here, the formatting is all off. I can run it fine from the command line: './startFS.sh' but when I put create the plist (via Lingon), nothing happens. Now, when run, it outputs a few lines to the console. Might that be problem?? I have tried prepending 'nohup' and post pending '&', but no combination seems to work. Help please.

Basically stuff like PIL and postgresql and mod_wsgi - basically everything needed to run Django for that python version. Is this the right the place to ask for it?

  I have successfully configured and compiled php on my dev server, and works great, but after talking to a sysadmin buddy, he informed that custom compiles of the latest builds are not recommended for production (or even development) systems. He noted a situation where they custom configured and compiled PHP 5.3.6, only to find that there was some issue with a low-level Postgres driver, so they had to revert back to 5.3.3. So I am considering going back to yum to install PHP, however I have several custom configuration settings and was wondering if it's possible to pass or configure how PHP will be compiled through YUM? • PHP5 module makes Apache 1.3 segfault

  I am trying to get PHP4 and 5 to work with Apache 1.3. PHP4 is compiled as a module and currently works fine, although Apache does display the following warning upon starting: Loaded DSO libphp4.so uses plain Apache 1.3 API, this module might crash under EAPI! (please recompile it with -DEAPI) So I compiled PHP5 using the latest source. I get the same warning, twice now for each PHP module, but then Apache gets a segmentation fault when loading the PHP4 + PHP5 modules. I have tried compiling PHP5 with apxs and without. It does appear to be using the -DEAPI flag. Maybe this isn't related to the segfault. The flags I am using to configure PHP5: ./configure --with-mysql --with-zlib --disable-cgi --with-apxs=/www/bin/apxs

• Optimized CSF LFD to miminize false positive emails on new install? Centos6.2 + ISPConfig3

  I have a remote dedicated server running CentOS 6.2 x64bit with ISPConfig3. This is a brand new install. Server Purpose: Basic LAMP Web Hosting with PureFTPD, BIND, CLAMAV, RKHunter. Any advice or link to a guide which will clearly explain how to optimize the CSF+LFD configuration is greatly appreciated. I am not exactly sure on where to start what I shouldn't loosen the restrictions on.   I'm trying to figure out how to generate a CSR so I can generate and install a SSL cert. Here's a LINK to what I've what tried. Granted that post was for m0n0wall, but I figured openssl is openssl. • scanning only works under "sudo" (Ubuntu)

• Looking for zsh completion file for osX native commands

  I've been digging deep into what actually comes with osX in /usr/bin and especially /usr/libexec. Quite good stuff really, although the command syntax is a bit.. odd. Let me direct the curious to the command that made me think of this: networksetup -printcommands I can not think of a command that better illustrates the need for good completion. security -h perhaps, but those commands have a familiar easy-to-read format. I beseech the community, please point me to a place where I can find such a thing. I never type them right, and I ache for tab completion for this Anyone have any idea where I could grab something? I'd prefer to stand on the shoulders of giants instead of trying to make a zsh/bash completion script leap into the world, ready for battle, like Athena, from my forehead. I am no Zeus when it comes to compctl. Not at all.

• Annoying Application on Mac Creating Unwanted File

  Last year, I installed an application on my Mac called Pocketcam. A few days later, I have removed the app from my Mac by dragging and dropping it into the trash bin. Apparently by doing that, it didn't remove the application completely as there are still some files left on the computer that is creating a log file in my document folder. The file keeps coming back after deleting it numerous times. So my question is, "how do I find the file that is creating that file and remove it completely from my Mac?"

• Regarding Reinstalling PostgreSQL

  I was using PostgreSQL 8.4. I tried removing it through Synaptic Manager and then I tried to install 9.1, but I still version 8.4. I deleted all the files associated with postgresql. Now I am unable to install any version of PostgreSQL. • Mac OS X file recovery

  I thought that all operating systems would merge folder content when being moved to the same location. Imagine my surprise when that didn't happen and I have hundreds, if not thousands of files that have gone missing and are nowhere to be found. Because they were not "deleted" they are not in the trash bin. I've tried to do some recovery using a program called stellarPheonix but after about a 24hour scan, it didn't recognize any of the raw files (.dng,.arw) as image files and so I couldn't see if they could be recovered. It also didn't show the directory structure, which would be handy. I tried a quick scan, but all it showed was files that were still on the HD, not sure what the point of that is. I've used recover 2000 on Win and it does a good job, does anyone know of anything that works quickly and reliably for this kind of file recovery. (I don't think I should have to do a sector-by=sector for this kind of file loss)

• Sporadic '.Xauthority not writable, changes will be ignored' going from OSX -> Linux

  Every now and then when users SSH from their OS X (Snow Leopard) workstation to one of our Linux hosts they receive the message: /usr/bin/xauth: ~/.Xauthority not writable, changes will be ignored Of course, their X forwarded applications will not work at this point. However, if they log out and log right back in again they do not get the message and everything works as expected. On their Mac they get their home directory via AFP. The Linux machines get it via NFS. Any ideas on what could be going on here?
