• How to stop a ICMP attack?

  We are under a heavy icmp flood attack. Tcpdump shows the result below. Altough we have blocked ICMP with iptables tcpdump still prints icmp packets. I've also attached iptables configuration and "top" result. Is there any thing I can do to completely stop icmp packets? • HTTP client - HTTP 405 error "Method not allowed". I send a HTTP Post but for some reason HTTP Get i

  Hey I am using apache library. I have created a class which sends a post request to a servlet. I have set up the parameters for the client and i have created a HTTP post object to be sent but for some reason when i excute the request i get a reposnse that says the get method is not supported(which is true cause i have only made a dopost method in my servlet). It seems that a get request is being sent but i dont know why. The post method worked before but i started gettng http error 417 "Expectation Failed" which i fixed by adding paramenters. below is my class with the post method. • Can I change the user id of a user on one Linux server to match another server in /etc/passwd?

  I have a Rails application that is on a virtual machine (RHEL 6) and it's database is on dedicated hardware (also RHEL 6). The app server has an NFS directory from the db server mounted and accessible. It needs to write images to that server that are uploaded via the app. Background processes on the db server need to read and write to the same directory, as they perform resizing operations on the uploaded files. Right now none of this is working, because the user ids are different between the two systems. I only need this to work for this one application, so it is way too much overhead to put an LDAP system in place. Can I simply change the user id of this one user in one of the systems, or will that cause mass chaos? UPDATE: The fix worked, at least on local devices. Unfortunately the device I have mounted to the main db server still thinks my user id is 502 instead of 506. Do I need to remount that device, or is there an NFS daemon I can stop and restart to refresh it?

My problem is I created a project inside the ofbiz/hot-deploy folder namely productionmgntSystem. Inside the folder ofbiz\hot-deploy\productionmgntSystem\webapp\productionmgntSystem I created a file app_details_1.ftl.   Whenever I use a RatingBar view in my layout, I suddenly get all kinds of compile errors. I'm using Android 2.0, but I've also tried 2.0.1, and 2.1, without joy. I also get a message: Shader 'android.graphics.BitmapShader' is not supported in Layout Editor, and an odd warning which may or maynot be related: warning: Ignoring InnerClasses attribute for an anonymous inner class that doesn't come with an associated EnclosingMethod attribute. I've tried using the RatingBar both within a tablelayout and outside it, but it behaves the same way. This is very puzzling and frustrating. Please help if you can.   I am simply trying to add a single row in the database but I keep getting an exception. I created a local database and added a single table: users. It consists of two columns: "id" and "name". I only made the id primary key (not auto-increment or anything else).   Hi! I have people, companies, employees, events and event kinds. I'm making a report/followup sheet where people, companies and employees are the rows, and the columns are event kinds. Event kinds are simple values describing: "Promised Donation", "Received Donation", "Phoned", "Followed up" and such. Event kinds are ordered: CREATE TABLE event_kinds ( id, name, position); Events hold the actual reference to the event: CREATE TABLE events ( id, person_id, company_id, referrer_id, event_kind_id, created_at); referrer_id is another reference to people. It is the person which sent the information/tip along, and is an optional field, although I sometimes want to filter on an event_kind that has a specific referrer, while I don't for other event kinds. Notice I don't have an employee ID reference. The reference exists, but is implied. I have application code to validate that person_id and company_id really reference an employee record. The other tables are pretty basic: CREATE TABLE people ( id, name); CREATE TABLE companies ( id, name); CREATE TABLE employees ( id, person_id, company_id); I'm trying to achieve the following report: Referrer Phoned Promised Donated Francois Feb 16th Feb 20th Mar 1st Apple (Steve Jobs) Steve Ballmer Mar 3rd IBM Bill Gates Mar 7th The first row is a people record, the 2nd is an employee, and the 3rd is a company. If I asked for referrer Bill Gates for Phoned event kinds, I'd only see the 3rd row, while asking for Steve and Phoned would return no rows. Right now, I do 3 queries, one for companies, one for people and a last one for employees. I want the event kind columns to be ordered, but I do that in application code and show it properly there. There should be an "easier" way to do it. One other filter criteria would be to filter on people/company names: WHERE LOWER(companies.name) LIKE '%apple%'. Note that I'm ordering by the dates of event_kind_9 here, and a secondary sort is by person/company name. To summarize: I want to paginate the result set, find the latest event for each cell, order the result set by the date of the latest event, and by company/person name, filter by referrer in some event kinds, but not others. For reference, I'm using PostgreSQL, from Ruby, ActiveRecord/Rails. The solution is pure SQL though.

Please note that I'm using script manager of AjaxControlToolkit version 4.1 i.e. ToolkitScriptManager in my masterpage. But I don't thing it has something to do with this. • Is it possible to store ObjectContext on the client when using WCF and Entity Framework?

  Hello, I have a WCF service which performs CRUD operation on my data model: Add, Get, Update and Delete. And I'm using Entity Framework for my data model. On the other side there is a client application which calls methods of the WCF service. For example I have a Customer class: [DataContract] public class Customer { public Guid CustomerId {get; set;} public string CustomerName {get; set;} } and WCF service defines this method: public void AddCustomer(Customer c) { MyEntities _entities = new MyEntities(); _entities.AddToCustomers(c); _entities.SaveChanges(); } and the client application passes objects to the WCF service: var customer = new Customer(){CustomerId = Guid.NewGuid, CustomerName="SomeName"}; MyService svc = new MyService(); svc.Add(customer); // or svc.Update(customer) for example But when I need to pass a great amount of objects to the WCF it could be a perfomance issue because of I need to create ObjectContext each time when I'm doing Add(), Update(), Get() or Delete(). What I'm thinking on is to keep ObjectContext on the client and pass ObjectContext to the wcf methods as additional parameter. Is it possible to create and keep ObjectContext on the client and don't recreate it for each operation? If it is not, how could speed up the passing of huge amount of data to the wcf service? Sergey

  Hi I have a partial view that has something like this <%= Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.SelectedProductName, Model.ProductList, "Select a Product") %> Now you can create a new product and edit a existing product. Both editing and creating use the same form. The create is on the main page on load up. Edit popus up in a jquery u.i model dialog and renders a new partial view. So as far as the page is concerned is that I have 2 dropdown boxes with the same "id" which is bad since they should be unique. So how do I change the id? So when the edit loads it might have a id of "editSelectedProductName"? I tried to do this in the view model public string SelectedProductName{ get; set; } ViewModelConstructor() { SelectedProductName = "EditSelectedProductName"; } But it seems to not care and keeps using "SelectedProductName" as the product name. • Example: Communication between Activity and Service using Messaging

  I couldn't find any examples of how to send messages between an activity and a service, and spent far too many hours figuring this out. Here is an example project for others to reference. This example allows you to start or stop a service directly, and separately bind/unbind from the service. When the service is running, it increments a number at 10Hz. If the activity is bound to the service, it will display the current value. Data is transferred as an Integer and as a String so you can see how to do that two different ways. There are also buttons in the activity to send messages to the service (changes the increment-by value). • Is possible to reuse subqueries?

  Hello, I'm having some problems trying to perform a query. I have two tables, one with elements information, and another one with records related with the elements of the first table. The idea is to get in the same row the element information plus several records information. Structure could be explain like this: table [ id, name ] [1, '1'], [2, '2'] table2 [ id, type, value ] [1, 1, '2009-12-02'] [1, 2, '2010-01-03'] [1, 4, '2010-01-03'] [2, 1, '2010-01-02'] [2, 2, '2010-01-02'] [2, 2, '2010-01-03'] [2, 3, '2010-01-07'] [2, 4, '2010-01-07'] And this is want I would like to achieve: result [id, name, Column1, Column2, Column3, Column4] [1, '1', '2009-12-02', '2010-01-03', , '2010-01-03'] [2, '2', '2010-01-02', '2010-01-02', '2010-01-07', '2010-01-07'] The following query gets the proper result, but it seems to me extremely inefficient, having to iterate table2 for each column. Would be possible in anyway to do a subquery and reuse it? • Advantages of Terminal Server instead of normal client-Server installation?

  What are the advantages of using a (Windows) Terminal Server and thin clients instead of using a normal Server and full clients? So far I've only really used normal servers and clients, but now customers ask about terminal Server, and I'd like to know pro's and con's of using them instead of an "old-fashioned" client-server network. Some things I can guess: easier administration (don't need to install/update office/stuff on 20 computers but only on the server). Easier backup (no need to backup client computers). And I'd guess it would be hard (impossible) to connect and use local (like USB) hardware with Terminal Server? What else are the reasons for or against switching to Terminal Server?

• What's constitute an entry on the IPTables and how to find out which client it is originated from

  I have a Billion BiPac 7700N Modem/Router/Access Point and I connect another router (TP-Link TL-WR1043ND) in wan-bypass mode to extend the wireless coverage. Lately, I noticed that the connection through TP-Link has been dropping out quite regularly. Having read some posts on the Internet, I checked system log on 7700N and found that there are many "nf_conntract: expectation table full" errors, which I suppose the iptables are full. My questions: What does constitute an entry on the iptable? Is it a client or a connection (which means one client can have multiple connections) How could I find out where are those connections originated from? Note: Many reported that the issue is usually related to having torrents running but I don't have any torrents running. Thank you.

• javascript table sorting/paging (client-side). How big is too big?

  I'm using a jQuery plugin called Tablesorter to do client-side sorting of a log table in one of my applications. I am also making use of the tablepager add-in. I really like the responsiveness that client-side sorting and paging brings to the party. I also like how you don't have to hit the web server or database repeatedly. However I can see that, in time, the log I'm displaying could grow quite large. I'm sure there comes a point where client-side paging and sorting is going to be impractical. What point will this technique begin to collapse under it's own weight? 500 records? 2000 records? 10,000 records? EDIT: In nutshell, what criteria would you use to determine if you are going to use client-side sorting/paging as opposed to server-side paging? Does the size of expected result set factor into your decision? Where is the tipping point?

• TCP: Address already in use exception - possible causes for client port? NO PORT EXHAUSTION

  Hello, stupid problem. I get those from a client connecting to a server. Sadly, the setup is complicated making debugging complex - and we run out of options. The environment: *Client/Server system, both running on the same machine. The client is actually a service doing some database manipulation at specific times. * The cnonection comes from C# going through OleDb to an EasySoft JDBC driver to a custom written JDBC server that then hosts logic in C++. Yeah, compelx - but the third party supplier decided to expose the extension mechanisms for their server through a JDBC interface. Not a lot can be done here ;) The Symptom: At (ir)regular intervals we get a "Address already in use: connect" told from the JDBC driver. They seem to come from one particular service we run. Now, I did read all the stuff about port exhaustion. This is why we have a little tool running now that counts ports and their states every minute. Last time this happened, we had an astonishing 370 ports in use, with the count rising to about 900 AFTER the error. We aleady patched the registry (it is a windows machine) to allow more than the 5000 client ports standard, but even then, we are far far from that limit to start with. Which is why I am asking here. Ayneone an ide what ELSE could cause this? It is a Windows 2003 Server machine, 64 bit. The only other thing I can see that may cause it (but this functionality is supposedly disabled) is Symantec Endpoint Protection that is installed on the server - and being capable of actinc as a firewall, it could possibly intercept network traffic. I dont want to open a can of worms by pointing to Symantec prematurely (if pointing to Symantec can ever be seen as such). So, anyone an idea what else may be the cause? Thanks
