  I wish to perform an experiment many different times. After every trial, I am left with a "large" set of output statistics -- let's say, 1000. I would like to store the outputs of my experiments in a table, but what's the best way...? Option 1 Have a table with 1000 columns. Seems like a bad idea. What if the number of statistics one day exceeds the maximum number of columns? Option 2 Have a table with three columns. Let's say, ID, StatisticType, and StatisticValue. That way, you can have as many statistics as you want. However, reading a single experiments statistics becomes more complicated. Moreover, what if different statistics are different data types?? Any suggestions?

  I'm sure this is some easy-to-fix issue that I've missed, but I can't figure it out. I've got a grouped table view with 3 sections. I'm using the following code to generate section headers: -(NSString*)tableView:(UITableView*)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { if (section == 0) { NSString *header = @"Header 1"; return header; } if (section == 1) { NSString *header = @"Header 2"; return header; } else { NSString *header = @"Header 3"; return header; } } When my table is displayed, there are two headers for each section - one with white text on a gray bar that stretches across the screen (like the letter separators in the Contacts app), and one in gray text on the table background (which is the one I want). Both headers have identical text. Where is the first header coming from?

• How to implement Auto_Increment per User, on the same table?

  I would like to have multiple users that share the same tables in the database, but have one auto_increment value per user. I will use an embedded database, JavaDB and as what I know it doesn't support this functionality. How can I implement it? Should I implement a trigger on inserts that lookup the users last inserted row, and then add one, or are there any better alternative? Or is it better to implement this in the application code? Or is this just a bad idea? I think this is easier to maintain than creating new tables for every user. WHERE '+someVar+' = ... AND '+someVar2' = ...' sp_executesql sql What I would rather like to have is a TABLE variable of which is a reference to a table, so I could do for example: UPDATE TableRef SET ... WHERE ... Because when I have really long T-SQL statements it gets really hard to read due to the format of it within a string. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

  Hi, Hope my subject line was descriptive enough. Basically, I have a table called Students, and one called Absences. The Students table contains student information (Name, DOB, StudentID etc.), the Absences table contains any absences (Date, Reason, related by StudentID). I want to get a full list of the students, plus a count of their absences. I want certain dynamic fields in my table to line up but they're changing width constantly. EDIT: What I mean is this: in any text editor I can press tab to align certain bits of text, and not care about how many spaces there are. In fact, the number of spaces there needs to be for the leftmost part of the text can change, and I still won't care, as long as the text lines up. How do I do this is in HTML?

When a corporate gets registered,corporateID is given,When a user under that corporate gets registered there is a table corporateuser in which corporateID is a foreign key and CorporateUserID is a primary key.Similarly in the case of a brand. So we have CorporateUserId and BrandUserID. Now i have a table called RegisteredUsers in which i want to have corporate as well as brand users.UserID is a primary key in this table which is a foreign key to both corporateuser as well as Branduser. now when i enter a corporateuser,I do an entry to corporateuser as well as RegisteredUsers.When i enter CorporateUserID in userID for RegisteredUsers.It gives foreign key violation error. I fully understand this error.How can i achieve this.This requirement is very rigid.Please tell a workaround

  Hello I have a MySQL database that I replicate from another server. The database contains a table with this columns ID, FileName and FileSize In the table there are more than 4'000'000 records. I want to make fast a search in FileName (varchar) column I found that I can use for this Sphinx search engine. The problem is that I want to restrict searches by filetype. Do I have to and how (trigers?) to extract file extensions for all rows? May be I have to create another table (because this one is replicated) and join them in 1:1 relation? Can you give me some advices please :)

  I have a DTS package that drops a table then creates it and populates it but sometimes something happens and the package fails after the drop table. If it's rerun it fails cuz the table hasn't been created yet. Is there something like "if exists" for SQLServer 2000 like in MySQL? thanks. Edit Thanks everyone! I imagine I want the server to think in terms of a correlated subquery, but the outer part isn't a query, it's an update. Is this even possible in one step?

I can pick 1 fruit and 1 color, but I can do this only once each day. examples: red, apple, monday red, mango, monday blue, apple, monday blue, mango, monday red, apple, tuesday The two ways in which I could build the table are: 1.- To have color, fruit and date be a composite primary key (PK). This makes it easy to insert data into the table because all the validation needed is done by the database. PK color PK fruit PK date 2.- Have and id column set as PK and then all the other fields. Many say thats the way it should be, because composite PKs are evil. For example, CakePHP does no support them. PK id color fruit date Both have advantages. Which would be the 'better' approach?

  Kinda stuck here... I have an application with lets say 5000 rows of data per user and was wondering if it was right or wrong to do it this way: On user account creation a new table is created (UserData_[UserID]) or should I just have 1 table for userdata and have everything in there with a column for userid? The reason I am stuck at the moment is that it seems NHibernate isn't able to be mapped to dynamic table names without creating another ISessionFactory which has alot of overhead AFAIK. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  The problem: let's say I have two tables Client, and Product, in which Client has its primary key and a column called products (that points to pk's in Product table)... ok, if I need products to point only one row, it's nice, but if I need it to point for... 1000 rows in Product table, the products column would have to be larger enought... but I can't predict this situation. So, how could I design my table and how would I use hibernate with it, to achieve that "pointing" in a optmized and maybe "easy" way.   I keep getting errors using Sql Compact. I have seen that it is possible to create table constraints in compact edition as shown here. And according to the documents found here it provides "Full referential integrity with cascading deletes and updates". So am I really not allowed to do the following or am I making a mistake? I keep getting complaints from sql server compact edition that the constaint is not valid, though it works fine on express edition. • Working with three dimensional data in an HTML (ASP.NET) table.

  I am working on the prototype for a scheduling application on an intranet system. The application is for scheduling and tracking promotional workers at various locations on various dates (hence location, date, workers dimensions). Currently, only for prototyping, I am generating a data table of location/date, and from this I iteratively build an HTML table (asp:Table control). On visiting each cell, I query for people working that location-date and populate the cell accordingly. This is very inefficiant, and will at worst be improved by querying cached data for the whole location/date grid. I'm looking around for established patterns and techniques for dealing with scenarios like this in HTML in general, maybe a visualisation library for jQuery or something, and for ASP.NET in particular, maybe a library for implementation on a GridView etc. Am I going in the right direction with this, and if so, what recomendations are there regarding the previous paragraph?
