• Using Visual Studio to create web application in Sharepoint 2010

  Hello, I am looking for pointers, examples, etc. to create a basic application in sharepoint 2010 using visual studio. The application would show a list on page 1 (driven by linq entities). When you click a row, it shows a details page. I've gone through the tutorials but could not find a basic crud-like example as explained above. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I missed something in one of the tutorials, please let me know. To summarize, in a very generic way; I am looking for information on how to display two web application pages and have the user click a link or control to move through pages. Regards, Bryan

• How do I write a Photoshop Extension (8BX) plugin?

  The Adobe Photoshop CS3/4 SDk has a lot of examples for Filter, Import, Export etc plugins but I havent found anything that illustrates how to write a 8BX plugin. Reason I need to write one is to add a new drop down menu to the Photoshop root toolbar (where it displays File, Edit, Image .. Window. Help drop down menus). I have seen product like OneSoftware install an 8BX plugin into Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins\Extensions directory that causes PS to add adrop down menu for OneSoft. That suggest this is a solvable problem :-) I tried by changing an existing plugin in the SDlK samples but no go. Specifically i modified the resource file: resource 'PiPL' (ResourceID, plugInName " PiPL", purgeable) { { Kind { **Extension** }, Name { plugInName "..." }, ... Despite using the Extension Kind , PS never loads the plugin. It doesnt generate any compile time or load error either. Anyone has ideas on how to go about doing this ? Thanks

• Please explain syntax rules and scope for "typedef"

  What are the rules? OTOH the simple case seems to imply the new type is the last thing on a line. Like here Uchar is the new type. typedef unsigned char Uchar; But a function pointer is completely different. Here the new type is pFunc: typedef int (*pFunc) (int); I can't think of any other examples offhand but I have come across some very confusing usages. So are there rules or are people just suppose to know from experience that this is how it is done because they have seen it done this way before? ALSO: What is the scope of a typedef. • Best Ruby ORM for Wrapping around Legacy MSSQL Database?

  Hi. I found this answer and it sounds like almost exactly what I'm doing. I have heard mixed answers about whether or not datamapper can support mssql through dataobjects. Basically, we have an app that uses a consistently structured database, consistently named tables, etc in MSSQL. We're making all kinds of tools and stuff that have to interact with it, some of them remotely and so I decided that we need to create some common, simple access point to do read/write operations on the MSSQL app since it's API is all C# and other things I despise. Now my question is if anyone has any examples or projects they know of where a ruby ORM can essentially create models for another application's legacy database by defining the conventions of each model's pkeys, fkeys, table names, etc. Sequel is the only ORM I've used with MSSQL but never to do anything quite like this. Any suggestions?

  I'd like to create HTNML documentation for a Java class library that includes programming guide information - beyond just a class reference code examples in the reference doc collapsible regions I want it to look well-styled. Something like this: I think that Javadoc exposes a doclet API that allows other parties to provide doc generation integrated in Javadoc. Is there a doclet option that I can use (for free) that does something a little nicer than the standard javadoc output? I tried googling for this but no luck. Suggestions?

• Write Local File using Adobe Air Iframe

  This is driving me mad. I am creating an AIR application and everything is working great. However I would really like to have a form inside an Iframe that when the user clicks submit saves the file to local application storage directory. Right now I am able to do this and save the file with no problems when I just access the HTML page not inside an Iframe. However if I wrap the page in an iframe and hit submit the file does not save. Any code examples would be very much appreciated. • Excluding items from TOC in Sphinx (documenter)?

  I'm using sphinx to document our internal API. For each class we're listing methods and then sub-sections under each such as Description and Examples, etc. The Table of Contents is generated automatically in the sidebar, which is great except that it lists all the sub-sections. I am looking for a way to tell Sphinx to ignore certain headings when generating the TOC. I have scoured the docs but have not found what I need. I'm sure it's something I missed. Some advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

• Rapid spectral analysis of audio file using Python 2.6?

  What I want to do is to have a subroutine that analyses every 200 milliseconds of a sound file which it is given and spits out the frequency intensity value (from 0 to 1 as a float) of a specific frequency range into an array which I later save. This value then goes on to be used as the opacity value for a graphic which is supposed to 'strobe' to the audio file. The problem is, I have never ventured into audio analysis before and have no clue where to start. I have looked pymedia and scipy/numpy thinking I would be able to use FFT in order to achieve this, but I am not really sure how I would manipulate this data to end up with the desired result. The documentation on the SpectrAnalyzer class of pymedia is virtually non-existant and the examples on the website do not actually work with the latest release of the library - which isn't exactly making my life easier. How would I go about starting this project? I am at a complete loss as to what libraries I should even be using.

I'm looking to start a new project to tinker with in my spare time and I am wondering what interesting data is available to play with. It seems like many api services such as last.fm or google search don't exist or are no longer free. • Forced naming of parameters in python

  In python you may have a function definition: def info(object, spacing=10, collapse=1) which could be called in any of the following ways: info(odbchelper) info(odbchelper, 12) info(odbchelper, collapse=0) info(spacing=15, object=odbchelper) thanks to python's allowing of any-order arguments, so long as they're named. The problem we're having is as some of our larger functions grow, people might be adding parameters between spacing and collapse, meaning that the wrong values may be going to parameters that aren't named. In addition sometimes it's not always clear as to what needs to go in. We're after a way to force people to name certain parameters - not just a coding standard, but ideally a flag or pydev plugin? so that in the above 4 examples, only the last would pass the check as all the parameters are named. Odds are we'll only turn it on for certain functions, but any suggestions as to how to implement this - or if it's even possible would be appreciated.

  Hi all, I have been implementing a new project which I have decided to use the repository pattern and Entity Framework. I have sucessfuly implemented basic CRUD methods and I have no moved onto my DeepLoads. From all the examples and documentation I can find to do this I need to call something like this: public Foo DeepLoadFoo() { return (from foobah in Context.Items.Include("bah").Include("foo").Include("foofoo") select foo).Single(); } This doesnt work for me, maybe I am trying to be too lazy but what I would like to achieve would be something along the lines of this: public Foo DeepLoadFoo(Foo entity, Type[] childTypes) { return (from foobah in Context.Items.Include(childTypes).Single(); } Is anything like this possible, or am I stuck with include.include.include.include? • API verbs for an interruptible operation

  I have a long running task as part of my application. The task can be started, paused, resumed, and cancelled. I'm trying to find the best interface for these operations. Two seem clear: Pause and Cancel. This leaves the start and resume operations. I could include both Start and Resume. This has the downside of either requiring the API consumer to check the state before starting/resuming the operation to call the right method, or making the methods aliases of each other. I'm thinking I should include either Start or Resume, but I don't know which one is the most appropriate. Does anyone have any examples in the .NET Framework of such behavior? I prefer to follow established patterns whenever they are available.

  Can someone enlighthen me with regards to Linq please? I have a dataset that is populated via a SQL Stored Procedure, the format of which is below: Country | Brand | Variant | 2004 | 2005 | 2006 | 2007 | 2008 The number of rows varies between 50 and several thousand. What I'm trying to do is use Linq to interrogate the dataset (there will be several Linq queries based on user options), but a simple example would be to SUM the year columns based on Brand.   There are examples online with web select boxes that have a huge list of countries and that probably will be good enough for me to use. However, by Murphy's law, there's bound to be some random country that someone is from and isn't on my list (and probably someone else also ran into this and has updated their local list). Also, when new countries are added, I won't know about it. Basically, I feel it's better practice and a better smell if there is some centralized list of country names that I can use / trust. (also it could set/follow standards for exact namings "United St..." vs "USA" etc.) I would prefer a solution that isn't IIS specific if possible

  Question 1 Do vertex buffer objects created under a certain VAO deleted once that VAO is deleted? The reason I'm asking is that I saw a few examples over the web that didn't delete those buffer objects. Question 2 What is the maximum amount of memory that I can allocate for buffer objects? It must be system dependent of course, but I can't seem find an estimation for it. What happens when video RAM isn't big enough? How would I know?

Sometimes docs for a certain SCM contain examples comparing that particular SCM to a couple of others. But I'm looking for a central place that contains maximum available information. Example: one uses bzr and knows that 'bzr pull' syncs a local repo by fetching new content from a remote repo. One want to know how to do that with git. One finds the git command, he knows the keyword. Since the keyword is known, one can proceed straight to git docs, he knows what to read about, he doesn't have to waste time by searching the git docs. I understand this might be not the only way people use to learn a new SCM tool. If you use other approaches, please do tell.

• OpenCL support on Leopard

  I want to use OpenCL in my software but I am running Leopard. I will probably update to Snow Leopard later. In the mean time I would like to get started with OpenCL in Leopard. Setting up on 10.5 is confusing: most SDKs and articles assume that you must be using Snow Leopard. Searching for "Using OpenCL on Leopard" is completely useless, as you would expect. I downloaded the cuda toolkit, devdriver and gpucomputing SDK from nvidia but the examples won't compile because OpenCL/opencl.h is not found. The OpenCL release notes don't mention MacOSX so again I think this is assuming that all Mac users are running Snow Leopard. Where can I find OpenCL includes and libraries for Mac OSX 10.5 ? Or, is this just a waste of time and I should go and get Snow Leopard ASAP ? After upgrading to Snow Leopard I would like my software to support Leopard. Is this possible ?

  Hello, I need to generate small images for certain parts of text. Those will have to fit into the text seamlessly. I know I can not make up for every browser font settings available, but how do I have to check for Linux, Mac and Windows users depending on the user agent? I want to use the right font (of the three "Verdana, Arial, Helvetiva") for the right user agent OS. So: How do I check for the OS? What do I have to compare to in the user agent? Where can I get the other two fonts. Does the Windows-included Verdana look the same as the one used on Linux (or, is it free anyway? I don't know much about fonts)? Where do I get Helvetica? Is it Mac OS licensed? Any code examples can be in either c# or VB.NET. I can read both. Thank you in advance.

For examples <somexmldoc> <someNode> <UserDefinedNode> </> <UserDefinedNode> </> </someNode> </somexmldoc> For this XML doc, I have an wholeDoc.XSD which could be used to validate the whole document except "UserDefinedNode" (This node is specified with "any" tag in xsd, which allows a user to define anything under that node). Is it possible to have a separate userdefined.XSD file to validate "UserDefinedNode"? Is it possible to use MSXML for C++ (IXMLDomDocument) to validate this? Thanks!

I've always used the first, but have seen a lot of people use the second example on this site. So, which is better? Faster? Clearer intent? Update Thanks for the quality answers. I now understand the difference between the 2. A benchmark states that isset() alone is quicker than array_key_exists(). However, if you want the isset() to behave like array_key_exists() it is slower.

• Working with Form Array's in Coldfusion?

  I have no idea how to handle this in coldfusion 9, I have a form being submitted (POST) with element checkboxes, called items[]. When I do a <cfdump var="#form#" /> no-problem, I get all the items shown with the proper names like items[] eg: struct ITEMS[] 13,14 FIELDNAMES ITEMS[] however doing a <cfdump var="#form.items[]#" /> results in an error. How do I access the CF9 field values? Somehow loop through it? I cannot seem to do anything with the array to get the id's out of it? Thoughts, I'm kindof stumped and coldfusion isn't the easiest language to find examples / references on the net ;) Is there a correct way to deal with this? I need to get the ID's out of there so I can referenc what lines were checked in the form, so I can follow up with an action. Thanks!

• Confusion with cookie session token and oauth2.0 don't know where to go anymore

  Hi guys, I'm completely confused, frustrated and nothing seems to make sense and work any more. I' dev some iframe fb app and i've been using the javascript sdk (FB.Init()) to get the access_token, but doesn't always work, sometimes i'm already logged into FB and doesn't works... Did some reading, and read also that there is problems using cookies in iframes in Opera and IE, so I was thinking in use the OAuth 2.0 but i'm not sure how via facebook sdk c# and now I'm now completely lost, don't know if i still need to use the javascript FB.Init(). Documentation out there is poor and unclear, a lot of stuff refers to old code, and after hours of reading, jumping on examples, i'm completely messed up and confused. Can some, please, point/explain/enlightening me about this? Thanks a lot guys, appreciated! Merry christmas!

• How do you check individual SqlCommands ran during a SqlTransactions to see if they will run?

  I've been reading up on SqlTransactions and have found a great load of examples like: http://www.devhood.com/tutorials/tutorial_details.aspx?tutorial_id=451 The problem is, when I do a BeginTransaction() (Execute all the commands) and then Commit() at the end all the commands I execute get run and the ones with syntax errors or other errors just get skipped. This is where I would also like to run a roll back, not skip over them. I found a few articles on the subject but they were not very helpful and purely in SQL. Is there any way to find out if one of the ExecuteNonQuery()'s failed before the commit and not just skipped? Thanks.
