• Deactivate any calls to Log before publishing: are there tools to do this?

  According to Google, I must "Deactivate any calls to Log methods in the source code" before publishing my Android app (section 4 of the publication checklist). My open-source project is large and it is a pain to do it manually every time I release. Additionally, removing a Log line is potentially tricky, for instance: if(condition) Log.d(LOG_TAG, "Something"); data.load(); data.show(); If I comment the Log line, then the condition applies to the next line, and chances are load() is not called. Are such situations rare enough that I can decide it should exist? This is on the official checklist, so I guess many people do this on a regular basis. So, is there a tool that removes all Log lines? Preferably one that is not tricked by code like the above.

• What is a good reporting service for a simple database/hobbyist setup?

  I have a meager production environment running on my PC for a little application that I work on in my spare time. At this point I have the basics setup, MySQL, junit, svn... I am midway through development and I now need to generate various reports. These reports are based on what data is in the database.... Now, my question is this: Is there an existing reporting tool that accepts SQL and generates various reports (via: email, PDF, etc). Some tool which makes writing new reports easy, while also having a somewhat robust set of features. Does this software exist or must I write all of these reports myself?

• Importing a spreadsheet, but having trouble.

  I have a form that allows a user to import a spreadsheet. This spreadsheet is generally static when it comes to column headers, but now the users want to be able to include an optional column (called Notes). My code crashes when I try to read the column from the spreadsheet if it doesn't exist.   I have a code structure something like this: For row = 1 To numRows Dim arrayIndex As Integer = 0 For column As Integer = bucketStartColumn To bucketEndColumn ' whatever code arrayIndex = arrayIndex + 1 Next Next Dim arrayIndex As Integer = 0 For column As Integer = bucketStartColumn To bucketEndColumn ' whatever code arrayIndex = arrayIndex + 1 Next Not exactly the code, so I don't really need suggestions about refactoring, but my problem is this - with this code I get a compiler error for the first Dim arrayIndex As Integer = 0 - "Variable 'arrayIndex' hides a variable in an enclosing block." As far as I can tell, arrayIndex is local to the first for loop and shouldn't exist by the time we reach the second loop. If I try to change the second declaration of arrayIndex to arrayIndex = 0, I get the error "Name 'arrayIndex' is not declared", as I expected. So is it visible, or not? Does this have something to do with the Dim keyword? Any suggestions of how to get around this, other than naming the second index variable something else?

  I have made a Java Swing Desktop application in Netbeans which can play media files I have put the videos in my workspace resources location and in my java program I am calling those media files using an URL which is something like this: C:/users/Dell/My Documents /NetBeansProjects/Media/src/resources/ MediaFiles/ddd.mpg This works well when I run in my IDE and also i have made Jar for this it works well on my computer but the problem is when i copy this jar file on my friends system the interface is coming but when I click a button to play a media file it says: C:/users/Dell/MyDocuments/NetBeansProjects/Media/src/resources/ MediaFiles/ddd.mpg does not exist So, please provide me a solution of how to set the default path so that when I run a jar file on other systems it should play the media file location I am passing as in my program. How to set the path for the location of media files in program? Update The videos are in the jar file.

• How do you handle options that can't be used together with OptionParser?

  My Python script (for todo lists) is started from the command line like this: todo [options] <command> [command-options] Some options can not be used together, for example todo add --pos=3 --end "Ask Stackoverflow" would specify both the third position and the end of the list. Likewise todo list --brief --informative would confuse my program about being brief or informative. Since I want to have quite a powerful option control, cases like these will be a bunch, and new ones will surely arise in the future. If a users passes a bad combination of options, I want to give an informative message, preferably along with the usage help provided by optparse. Currently I handle this with an if-else statement that I find really ugly and poor. My dream is to have something like this in my code: parser.set_not_allowed(combination=["--pos", "--end"], message="--pos and --end can not be used together") and the OptionParser would use this when parsing the options. Since this doesn't exist as far as I know, I ask the SO community: How do you handle this?

• How to save derived type (TPT) in Entity Framework?

  I have problems with saving derived type (TPT) with Entity Framework to database. Let's say I have base entity Animal and derived type Dog. I want to save Dog entity. I thought that I could do it like contex.AddToDogs(), but contex contain only base entity - Animal. So I can only save Animal object - contex.AddToAnimals(). I have also tried with contex.AddObject("Animals", dogInstance), but I get the following error: The member with identity 'NavigationProperty' does not exist in the metadata collection. But I have add EntityReference to the "NavigationProperty". So how to save derived type in EF?

• Can't delete a file created by mkstemp() on Mac OS X

  Apparently, NSFileManager is unable to delete files created by mkstemp(). • What's an easy way of storing an array of numbers in Javascript that I can add/remove from?

  In C# I would create a List then I could add and remove numbers very easily. Does identical functionality exist in Javascript, or do I have to write my own methods to search and remove items using a loop? var NumberList = []; NumberList.Add(17); NumberList.Add(25); NumberList.Remove(17); etc. I know I can use .push to add a number, so I guess it's really how to remove an individual number without using a loop that I'm looking for. edit: of course, if there's no other way then I'll use a loop!:)

  DatabaseError at /admin/delmarva/event/ no such column: delmarva_event.eventdate I created a class in my models.py file: from django.db import models from django.contrib.auth.models import User class Event(models.Model): eventname = models.CharField(max_length = 100) eventdate = models.DateField() eventtime = models.TimeField() address = models.CharField(max_length = 200) user = models.ForeignKey(User) def __unicode__(self): return self.eventname and now when i try to view my events in my admin or my main_page it gives me the error that there is no eventdate. I tried syncing the db again but nothing changed. Also, I hashtagged eventdate out to see if I get a different error and then it states that delmarva_event.eventtime does not exist as well. I It is weird because it does not have a problem with eventname. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

• Java long task - Did it stop writing to file?

  I am writing a lot of data to a file, and while keeping my eye on the file it eventually stopped growing in size. Essentially my task is getting information from a database, and printing out all non-unique values in column A. Since there are many rows to the database table, and the database table is across my network, this is taking days to complete. Thus I'm concerned that since the file isn't growing, that it isn't actually writing to the file anymore. Which is odd, I have no "catch"'s in my code, so if there was a problem writing to file, wouldn't it have thrown an error?! Should I let the task complete (estimate 2-3 days from today), or is there something else that I don't know going on here making my application not write to the file?! my algorithm goes something like this Declare file Create new file Open file for writing get database connection get resultset from database for each row in the resultset - write column "A" to file - if row# % 100000 then write to screen "completed " + row# + " rows" when no more rows exist close file write to screen - "completed"

• small string optimization for vector?

  I know several (all?) STL implementations implement a "small string" optimization where instead of storing the usual 3 pointers for begin, end and capacity a string will store the actual character data in the memory used for the pointers if sizeof(characters) <= sizeof(pointers). I am in a situation where I have lots of small vectors with an element size <= sizeof(pointer). I cannot use fixed size arrays, since the vectors need to be able to resize dynamically and may potentially grow quite large. However, the median (not mean) size of the vectors will only be 4-12 bytes. So a "small string" optimization adapted to vectors would be quite useful to me. Does such a thing exist? I'm thinking about rolling my own by simply brute force converting a vector to a string, i.e. providing a vector interface to a string. Good idea?

So say if I put the parameter: http://example.com/uncategorized/ It redirect me to : http://example.com/mature/ The problem is with curl, I dont get any content.. But my aim is to get the content of that page redirect.. Is there an easy way to get the function to work in the way I want..?

• Error 500 on template.render() with jinja2

  I am working on playing with some Python to create a webapp. At first I put the HTML in a string, using %s to fill certain elements. That all worked perfectly. Now I want to put the HTML in a template, so I followed this tutorial. I did add the latest jinja2 library to my app.yaml, and naturally my rot13.html does exist with the {{ text }} added. So could anyone please help me in the right direction? I don't know why it's going wrong.

• Can you modify SQL DB schema in a transaction to know if all changes were applied?

  As part of my (new) database version control methodology, I'm writing a "change script" and want the change script to insert a new row into the SchemaChangeLog table if the script is executed successfully, or to reverse changes if any single change in the script fails. Is it possible to do schema changes in a transaction and only if it gets committed to then do the INSERT? • Seam + hibernate + jsf on weblogic

  I'm making a little project with Seam, Hibernate and JSF. This project run on JBoss 5.1. My boss wants to deploy this project on WebLogic. I read on the seam documentation that seam and WebLogic don't work fine together. I would like to know if I can use Hibernate (with JPA) and JSF on WebLogic and what framework (struts, spring?) I can use to replace Seam. Edit: I read in the seam documentation (chapter 39, weblogic integration) and I find that: For several releases of Weblogic there has been an issue with how Weblogic generates stubs and compiles EJB's that use variable arguments in their methods. This is confirmed in the Weblogic 9.X and 10.0.MP1 versions. Unfortunately the 10.3 version only partially addresses the issue as detailed below. So, I want to know if other problems like this exist. • A fast way to get Reporting Services local site working?

  Hello I was here trying to figure out why my Reports manager is empty, there's no tabs at all. I installed SQL Server 2008 complete, but didn't not configure Reporting Services. When installing SQL Server 2008, this Windows 7 version didn't have yet IIS installed, I installed it later. I don't see where is this localhost/Reports physically on my Hard Drive, where is the physic folder? I don't see on IIS where is Report folder, would it exist? The site settings people talk about, I can't find it. The "Reporting Services" service is running on automatic at SQL Server Configuration Manager. How can I get Reporting Services this working without struggling? (I can't see why is necessary to customize all these user permissions)

• Best directory to store application data with read\write rights for all users?

  Hi guys. Until Windows Vista I was saving my application data into the directory where the program was located. The most common place was "C:\Program Files\MyApplication". As we know, under Vista and later the common user does't have rights to write under "Program Files" folder. So my first idea was to save the application data under "All Useres\Application Data" folder. But it seams that this folder has writing restrictions too! So to sum up, my requirements are: Folder should exist under Windows XP and above Microsoft's systems. All useres of the system should read\write\creation rights to this folder and it subfolders and files. I want to have only one copy of file\files for all useres. Thanks for your time.

• Is there a definitive list of uri patterns for use in android apps made by google?

  Apart from http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/g-app-intents.html (which is quite good but fairly limited in the number of apps/uri's it covers) I've been unable to find a decent reference source for looking up URI's to use when integrating with google apps. I'm currently working on triggering the "add new contact" UI, and have found that the tel: uri pattern seems to work, but what if I only have a name and an email? I wouldn't have expected I'd need to rely on sample code / trial and error, but I really can't see anywhere where the intent/URI interface is supposed to be documented in android apps. Does such a standard exist? Is there some quasi standard / user database that I can consult? On a platform with such a good inter-interoperability architecture it just seems like something so useful I can't believe it's not there
