• What is the best Networking implementation for my application?

  I am in the planning phases of a project for myself, it is to be a single and multi-player card game. I would like to track statistics for each person such as world rankings etc... My problem is I do not know the best approach for the client - server architecture and programming. My original goal was to program everything in C# as I want to get proficient in that language. My original idea was to have a back-end database and a back end server run on some sort of hosting on the internet, however that seems costly for such a small project that may or may not make any money. I have tried looking into cloud services however I am unfamiliar with the technology, and I am not sure I can make them suit my needs, especially since most like Google's cloud wants you to use their coding architecture from what I understand. Finally my last problem is that I would like an architecture that can be used for different languages so that I can port it from PC to IPhone, Xbox etc... So does anyone have any advice on the best architecture and language to do this in? Am I worrying about architecture and back-end costs to much and should just concentrate on getting the game running any which way?

  I setup custom CSS class for array of dynamic TextBoxes (inputs as HTML) so... now I need to get array of it : <input type="text" style="width: 50px;" class="DynamicTB" id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_GridView1_ctl02_id" readonly="readonly" value="1" name="ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$GridView1$ctl02$id"> sure client don't really knows the count of inputs. That's why I use class and here is what I'm trying to make : $.each( { id : $("input.DynamicTB").css("value") }, function(id){ CallPageMethod("SelectBook", success, fail, "id",id); }); I'm not sure if this $("input.DynamicTB").css("value") will works correct :( but How can I transfer whole array of values to SelectBook Method ? My javascript is bad and my debugger don't show me javascript errors but it just doesn't works because of something wrong with each. • Unable to establish the connection to the file in BlackBerry

  I have tried the example code on SO to read the contents from the file in the resource directory in BlackBerry. But I am having an issue with the FileConnection. I get the following error: File system error (1003) I tried the example from here. • JavaScript: Is there a better way to retain your array but efficiently concat or replace items?

  I am looking for the best way to replace or add to elements of an array without deleting the original reference. Here is the set up: var a = [], b = [], c, i, obj; for ( i = 0; i < 100000; i++ ) { a[ i ] = i; b[ i ] = 10000 - i; } obj.data_list = a; Now we want to concatenate b INTO a without changing the reference to a, since it is used in obj.data_list. Here is one method: for ( i = 0; i < b.length; i++ ) { a.push( b[ i ] ); } This seems to be a somewhat terser and 8x (on V8) faster method: a.splice.apply( a, [ a.length, 0 ].concat( b ) ); I have found this useful when iterating over an "in-place" array and don't want to touch the elements as I go (a good practice). I start a new array (let's call it keep_list) with the initial arguments and then add the elements I wish to retain. Finally I use this apply method to quickly replace the truncated array: var keep_list = [ 0, 0 ]; for ( i = 0; i < a.length; i++ ){ if ( some_condition ){ keep_list.push( a[ i ] ); } // truncate array a.length = 0; // And replace contents a.splice.apply( a, keep_list ); There are a few problems with this solution: there is a max call stack size limit of around 50k on V8 I have not tested on other JS engines yet. This solution is a bit cryptic Has anyone found a better way?

• Effective simulation of compound poisson process in Matlab

  I need to simulate a huge bunch of compound poisson processes in Matlab on a very fine grid so I am looking to do it most effectively. I need to do a lot of simulations on the same random numbers but with parameters changing so it is practical to draw the uniforms and normals beforehand even though it means i have to draw a lot more than i will probably need and won't matter much because it will only need to be done once compared to in the order 500*n repl times the actual compound process generation. My method is the following: Let T be for how long i need to simulate and N the grid points, then my grid is: t=linspace(1,T,N); Let nrepl be the number of processes i need then I simulate P=poissrnd(lambda,nrepl,1); % Number of jumps for each replication U=(T-1)*rand(10000,nrepl)+1; % Set of uniforms on (1,T) for jump times N=randn(10000,nrepl); % Set of normals for jump size Then for replication j: Poiss=P(j); % Jumps for replication Uni=U(1:Poiss,j);% Jump times Norm=mu+sigma*N(1:Poiss,j);% Jump sizes Then this I guess is where I need your advice, I use this one-liner but it seems very slow: CPP_norm=sum(bsxfun(@times,bsxfun(@gt,t,Uni),Norm),1); In the inner for each jump it creates a series of same length as t with 0 until jump and then 1 after, multiplying this will create a grid with zeroes until jump has arrived and then the jump size and finally adding all these will produce the entire jump process on the grid.   I'm really struggling with hibernate sessions, I never have the result I expect when making a query on a modified session object. I think all my problems are related. I had the same problem with creating an object with an incremental id in a session, then creating another one in the same session before the commit, with a select max(id)+1. But the session gets me the same number of id every time.

• Reverse wildcard search in codeigniter

  I am implementing a snippet-based content management system into my current project. Snippets can be associated with a page either by exact match of the full url falling back to a wildcard match on a partial url or finally a default snippet. To implement this I have a created table of page associations with a wildcard flag, the system first checks the current url against the non-wildcard associations and if it doesn't find a match it checks against the partial url's where the wildcard flag is set. Unhandled exception at 0x102d12b4 in GTK.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0xfffffffc.   Hey all, I was wondering how one can fix an upper limit for the length of a string (in C++) for a given platform. I scrutinized a lot of libraries, and most of them define it arbitrarily. The GNU C++ STL (the one with experimental C++0x features) has quite a definition: size_t npos = size_t(-1); /*!< The maximum value that can be stored in a variable of type size_t */ size_t _S_max_len = ((npos - sizeof(_Rep_base))/sizeof(_CharT) - 1) / 4; /*!< Where _CharT is a template parameter; _Rep_base is a structure which encapsulates the allocated memory */ Here's how I understand the formula: The size_t type must hold the count of units allocated to the string (where each unit is of type _CharT) Theoretically, the maximum value that a variable of type size_t can take on is the total number of units of 1 byte (ie, of type char) that may be allocated The previous value minus the overhead required to keep track of the allocated memory (_Rep_base) is therefore the maximum number of units in a string. Divide this value by sizeof(_CharT) as _CharT may require more than a byte Subtract 1 from the previous value to account for a terminating character Finally, that leave the division by 4. I have absolutely no idea why! I looked at a lot of places for an explanation, but couldn't find a satisfactory one anywhere (that's why I've been trying to make up something for it! Please correct me if I'm wrong!!).

• Simple OpenCL Kernel

  I'm trying to write a kernel which is a little long but the output is not correct. I took out a lot almost everything and finally narrowed down the an initialization problem and I found that the following works: __kernel void k_sIntegral(__global const float* eData,__global const unsigned long* elements,__global float* area){ const int i = get_global_id(0); if(i < elements[0]){ area[i] = i; } } But the following does not work: __kernel void k_sIntegral(__global const float* eData,__global const unsigned long* elements,__global float* area){ const int i = get_global_id(0); if(i < elements[0]){ __local float a,b,c,j,k,h,s; area[i] = i; } } Using the first kernel, I get: area[1] = 1 Using the second kernel, I get: area[1] = 0 (from calloc) Update: It seems like the code does work, but I need to change the function name otherwise it somehow calls the previous function even though it was not compiled (?). Any leads to why that happens? If anyone can let me know what might be the problem I'll be really grateful, thanks in advance!

  Hi I have to send a two-dimensional JavaScript Array to a PHP page. Indeed, I'm working on a form-builder, in which the user can add or remove fields. These fields are added (or removed) using JavaScript (jQuery). When the user is done and hit a 'publish' button, I have to get all the fields concerned and send them to a PHP page which would build a real form with it.   I am developing a desktop application in C#. I have coded a function to merge multiple docx files but it does not work as expected. I don't get the content exactly as how it was in the source files. A few blank lines are added in between. The content extends to the next pages, header and footer information is lost, page margins gets changed, etc.. How can I concatenate docs as it is without and change in it.Any suggestions will be helpful. I'm just wondering, Also is there a more effiecent way of doing the above? (e.g. finidng out that 1/3 = 0.3 to 50,000 decimals.) Finally: I'm doing this for a pi formulae the (1 - 1/3 + 1/5 - 1/7 etc.) one, And i'm wondering if there is a better one. (In php) I have found one that finds pi to 2000 in 4 seconds. But thats not what I want. I want an infinite series that converges closer to Pi so every refresh, users can view it getting closer... see: http://zombiewrath.com/pi.php (Old one) and 'zombiewrath.com/superpi.php' (Newer one) But obv. converging using the above formulae takes ALONG time. Is there any other 'loop' like Pi formulaes (workable in php) that converge faster? Thanks alot...

• JAR file: Could not find main class

  Okay, I have a strange problem. I wanted to run one of my programs as a .jar file, but when I open it by double-clicking it, I get an error message like "Could not find main class, program is shutting down". I'm pretty sure I did everything right, the jar should work afaik. I also tried other programs, it's the same with every single one. (I'm creating the .jar's through BlueJ) There is no problem when I run them through a .bat . And here comes the strangest thing of all: The .jar's have worked some time ago (one or two months I guess), and I don't remember doing anything different. It's the same BlueJ-Version. Okay, maybe Java updated and something got messed up... I googled, but I couldn't find a solution. (some people seem to have a similar problem, and it seems to be only them who can't run their .jar's; they uploaded them and other people say the .jar's run fine.) What could be the problem? How can I solve it? I'd really appreciate some help here. Thank you :) ApertureT3CH EDIT: okay guys, you're making me unsure here. Imma check the manifest again, at this unholy time ( 1:34 am ) :P EDIT2: This is my MANIFEST.MF Manifest-Version: 1.0 Class-Path: Main-Class: LocalChatClientGUI [empty line] [empty line] The Main class is correct. EDIT3: Thanks to hgrey: There is nothing wrong with the jar. I can run it from a bat file, which actually should not be different from double-clicking the jar, right? Yet I get the error when clicking it, and it works fine through the bat. EDIT4: I finally solved the problem. I re-installed the JRE and now it works, although I can't see any version differences. • Very weird jquery/json problem...

  Hey guys I have finally located the cause of this problem...I just have no idea how to fix it and why it is happening. I have a jquery getjson function and it returns 0 results every 2-5 clicks on new topics or refreshes. For some reason if I change my query to sort results by ASC it always returns results and much quicker, but this poses a problem since I need results by DESC. If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it because I am dumbfounded at this point.   In my project, I have created a code snippet which can be copied and then put in any website. It shows my content on other websites. My approach works fine. But when I look into some good standard ways to do such tasks, I find a different way. Take an example of google adsense code. <script type='text/javascript'> var a = 'somedata'; var b = 'someotherdata'; </script> <script type='text/javascript' src='http://www.google.com/adsenseurl.js'></script> I guess, since a and b are global; adsenseurl.js must be using it and may be finally they are showing it on iframe. So, now the question. What's the advantage in using google's approach and whats wrong in my approach ? p.s. I know I should try to avoid using iframes but I dont see any other way to accomplish this.

I would normally aggregate the data frame, then use match to map the values back to a new column, 'ctrl'. • SQL query doesn't get inserted

  I've been trying to get my query to work for some time it runs but doesn't insert anything nor does it return any errors. The database connection is open and is successfuly connection. • Adding images to an array memory issue

  Hello all, I'm currently facing the following issue: My app dynamically creates images (320 x 480 pixels) and adds them to a NSMutableArray. I need those images inside that array in order to allow users to browse through them back and forth. I only need to keep the latest 5 images. So I wrote a method like below: - (void)addImageToArray:(UIImage*)theImage { if ([myMutableArray count] < 5) { [myMutableArray addObject:theImage]; } else { [myMutableArray removeObjectAtIndex:0]; [myMutableArray addObject:theImage]; } } This method basically does what it's supposed to do. However, in instruments I can see, that memory usage is permanently incrementing. At some point, even though I do not have any memory leaks, the app finally crashes. The way I see it, XCode does remove the image from my array, but does not release it. Is there a way I can make sure, that the object I want to remove from my array will also get released? Maybe my approach is completely wrong and I need to find a different way. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance

• Printing a JFrame and its components

  I have been working in a big program and one of its functionalities should be to print the contents of the main window. I checked the API and found this example: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/2d/printing/gui.html it was very helpful, I tried to use that code in my program by placing this inside the actionperformed method of my print button: PrinterJob job = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob(); job.setPrintable(this); boolean ok = job.printDialog(); if (ok) { try { job.print(); } catch (PrinterException ex) { /* The job did not successfully complete */ } } If I click the print button, I get a printer dialog and when I tell it to print, it just prints a blank document. I know the above code is not all I need, as I've seen in the API's examples there is a print() method, but apparently they never call it, so it is pretty confusing. I've tried calling and using it many times, but with no success. Also, I think that when I finally get it to print, my window will need to be printed in the landscape orientation, it even may need some scaling. Any ideas on how to do that? I would like any useful help to help me implement this code successfully. I know I should be able to do it by myself just by checking the documentation (I've tried for almost 2 days now) but I can't get it to work. I've learned all the programming I know through the internet. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
