• 400 error with nginx subdomains over https

  Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm trying to get gunicorn/django through nginx using only https. • Computer will not boot - disk read error - cannot boot from HD or DVD

  This is a 3 year-old system: HP a1640n. There have been no issues with it in the past. I added a video card 2 years ago, and more memory 1 year ago, both without issues. There haven't been any recent hardware changes. I did install Win7 in Oct., but there were no issues with that either. I used the computer fine two nights ago, and turned it off. Yesterday, I tried to turn it on, and got the error: "A Disk Read Error Occurred. Press CTRL ALT DEL to restart" So I restart, see the initial start screen (HP) and enter the BIOS. The hard drive and dvd drive appear to be listed, but the names are gibberish text. I tried putting a Windows disk in the dvd drive, and continued with the boot, but the disk did not get recognized. Even though the BIOS was set to check for optical media before the hard drive. Back to the error screen. If the computer would boot from a cd or dvd, I would just figure the hard drive needed replacing. But both being problematic worries me. Is this a matter of replacing both the hard drive and dvd drive, or might it be an indication of a bigger problem? Thanks for any advice.

• User receives group membership error to terminal server even though has rights

  http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/TSLoginMembership.png To log on to this remote computer, you must be granted the Allow log on through Terminal Services right. By default, members of the Remote Desktop Users group have this right. If you are not a member of the Remote Desktop Users group or another group that has this right, or if the Remote Desktop User group does not have this right, you must be granted this right manually. Only as of today a particular user began receiving this message for a second terminal server they use; otherwise, they have never had any problems authenticating into this server. We have no restrictions on simultaneous and multiple logins. On each terminal server, we have a group and security group like "_Users" locally in the Builtin\Remote Desktop Users group. For this particular user, on this particular terminal server we have locally given him Administrator, Remote Desktop Users, and Users membership; in AD we have given him DOMAIN\Administrator, Builtin\Remote Desktop Users, DOMAIN\_Users. It still gives us that error message. We gave him membership to another terminal server (random) by simply making him member of another DOMAIN\_Users group -- successfully able to login to that random terminal server. So, from scratch we created an AD account 'dummy' (username) with only Domain Users membership. Tried to login to this particular server, no success. So I added 'dummy' to DOMAIN\_Users group, and then was successfully able to login. Other users from this user's department are able to login to this particular server just fine as well. We checked the Security logs on this particular server, and while it is logging everything, the only thing it appears to not log are these failed login attempts from this particular user who receives this error message. We have tried rebooting the server, and the user is still receiving that error message.

• Error getting PAM / Linux integrated with Active Directory

  I'm trying to add a Linux server to a network which is controlled by AD. The aim is that users of the server will be able to authenticate against the AD domain. I have Kerberos working, but NSS / PAM are more problematic. I'm trying to debug with a simple command such as the following, please see the error. Can anyone assist me to debug? root@antonyg04:~# ldapsearch -H ldap://raadc04.corp.MUNGED.com/ -x -D "cn=MUNGED,ou=Users,dc=corp,dc=MUNGED,dc=com" -W uid=MUNGED Enter LDAP Password: ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49) additional info: 80090308: LdapErr: DSID-0C090334, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 525, vece I have had to munge some details, but I can tell you that cn=MUNGED is my username for logging into the AD domain, and the password that I typed was the password for said domain. I don't know why it says "Invalid credentials", and the rest of the error is so cryptic, I have no idea. Is my approach somehow flawed? Is my DN obviously wrong? How can I confirm the correct DN? There was a tool online but I can't find it. NB I have no access to the AD Server for administration or configuration.

So I had them unplug and replug the USB cable, and now (before remounting) it says: fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2 e2fsck 1.41.12 (17-May-2010) /dev/sda1: clean, 2805106/61046784 files, 181934167/244182016 blocks I then mount it and now ls works and df reports: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 917G 680G 191G 79% /mnt/backup What would cause it to go into such a state without being asked to? Why all the weird behaviour, and now it appears to not be corrupt?

  I tried the code provided by vba express for combining sheet, while execution it is displaying Run Time error 1004: Application Defined or Object Defined Error: My Scenario is: I have a Excel, in that I have first sheet "Connection" and after it I have Sheet1, Sheet2 and so on. I am combining all sheets except Sheet"Conection" by saying start with sheet2. I tried following line of code to exclude "Connection" sheet: If Not Sheet.Name = "Connection" then but it did not work. • Configuration Error ASP.NET password format specified is invalid

  I am getting the above error in IIS 6.0 now when I browse my C# / SQL web application. This was built in VS 2008 and SS 2008 on a 32-bit XP OS. The application was working before I added Login controls to it. However, this is my first time configuring Login/password controls so I am probably missing something really basic. The Network Service account has SELECT, EXECUTE, INSERT, UPDATE access to this database. But one problem I see is that all of the tables in this database are empty except for aspnet_SchemaVersions, which just has 2 records (common and membership). Is this right? I added users and roles via ASP.NET Configuration wizard, and I believe I set this up correctly since I followed the Microsoft tutorial at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998347.aspx. One other problem I see from VS is after adding content to my Page_Load on my initial login Password.aspx.cs file, I'm getting an invalid cast problem below. I googled this problem also but the solutions I saw confused me even more.   I have RHEL 5 lan server with squid 2.6 stable proxy settings, Under this have some windows xp desktops Now i installed filezilla ftp client in windows xp, for give services to my client's websites But i can't connect ftp servers throw filezilla , I set generic proxy too. ( HTTP/1.1 USING CONNECT method ) I get error message like this, Status: Connecting to (ftp hostname) through proxy Status: Connecting to hostname:port... Status: Connection with proxy established, performing handshake... Response: Proxy reply: HTTP/1.0 403 Forbidden How can i solve this problem ?

• 12.04 upgrade broke grub? (not wubi related)

  I just updated from 11.10 to 12.04, with no major problems (it took a while to get past a request to restart ssh, mysql and some other services, but I did no fiddling by myself, everything was done by the installer). However, after restarting, grub can't do anything. Picking the new linux installation (first entry), I just get error: no such partition error: no such partition error: no such partition and picking the recovery-version just gives 5 lines instead of 3. I have windows 7 installed on a different drive, and can run it by booting from that drive instead. Picking it from the grub menu gives the same error as above (can't remember how many lines, though). I'll be honest and say that I don't remember if win 7 could be booted from grub before the update, though. In short, nothing on the grub menu works. any solutions? The grub menu changed appearance - before it was on a purple background, small letters, now it's white-on-black, big letters, looking very basic. The original installation was from a usb-drive, and I hadn't heard about wubi until I started googling this problem, so I doubt there's any connection. I really hope there are some grub-savvy people out there :) EDIT: ok. so, I made a bootable usb, and am running from that right now. when I ran the bootinfoscript, it warned me that "gawk" could not be found, using "busybox awk" instead. This may lead to unreliable results. just so you know. • C#/.NET Fundamentals: Choosing the Right Collection Class

  The .NET Base Class Library (BCL) has a wide array of collection classes at your disposal which make it easy to manage collections of objects. While it's great to have so many classes available, it can be daunting to choose the right collection to use for any given situation. As hard as it may be, choosing the right collection can be absolutely key to the performance and maintainability of your application! This post will look at breaking down any confusion between each collection and the situations in which they excel. We will be spending most of our time looking at the System.Collections.Generic namespace, which is the recommended set of collections. The Generic Collections: System.Collections.Generic namespace The generic collections were introduced in .NET 2.0 in the System.Collections.Generic namespace. This is the main body of collections you should tend to focus on first, as they will tend to suit 99% of your needs right up front. It is important to note that the generic collections are unsynchronized. This decision was made for performance reasons because depending on how you are using the collections its completely possible that synchronization may not be required or may be needed on a higher level than simple method-level synchronization. Furthermore, concurrent read access (all writes done at beginning and never again) is always safe, but for concurrent mixed access you should either synchronize the collection or use one of the concurrent collections. So let's look at each of the collections in turn and its various pros and cons, at the end we'll summarize with a table to help make it easier to compare and contrast the different collections. The Associative Collection Classes Associative collections store a value in the collection by providing a key that is used to add/remove/lookup the item. Hence, the container associates the value with the key. These collections are most useful when you need to lookup/manipulate a collection using a key value. For example, if you wanted to look up an order in a collection of orders by an order id, you might have an associative collection where they key is the order id and the value is the order. The Dictionary<TKey,TVale> is probably the most used associative container class. The Dictionary<TKey,TValue> is the fastest class for associative lookups/inserts/deletes because it uses a hash table under the covers. Because the keys are hashed, the key type should correctly implement GetHashCode() and Equals() appropriately or you should provide an external IEqualityComparer to the dictionary on construction. The insert/delete/lookup time of items in the dictionary is amortized constant time - O(1) - which means no matter how big the dictionary gets, the time it takes to find something remains relatively constant. This is highly desirable for high-speed lookups. The only downside is that the dictionary, by nature of using a hash table, is unordered, so you cannot easily traverse the items in a Dictionary in order. The SortedDictionary<TKey,TValue> is similar to the Dictionary<TKey,TValue> in usage but very different in implementation. The SortedDictionary<TKey,TValye> uses a binary tree under the covers to maintain the items in order by the key. As a consequence of sorting, the type used for the key must correctly implement IComparable<TKey> so that the keys can be correctly sorted. The sorted dictionary trades a little bit of lookup time for the ability to maintain the items in order, thus insert/delete/lookup times in a sorted dictionary are logarithmic - O(log n). Generally speaking, with logarithmic time, you can double the size of the collection and it only has to perform one extra comparison to find the item. Use the SortedDictionary<TKey,TValue> when you want fast lookups but also want to be able to maintain the collection in order by the key. The SortedList<TKey,TValue> is the other ordered associative container class in the generic containers. Once again SortedList<TKey,TValue>, like SortedDictionary<TKey,TValue>, uses a key to sort key-value pairs. Unlike SortedDictionary, however, items in a SortedList are stored as an ordered array of items. This means that insertions and deletions are linear - O(n) - because deleting or adding an item may involve shifting all items up or down in the list. Lookup time, however is O(log n) because the SortedList can use a binary search to find any item in the list by its key. So why would you ever want to do this? Well, the answer is that if you are going to load the SortedList up-front, the insertions will be slower, but because array indexing is faster than following object links, lookups are marginally faster than a SortedDictionary. Once again I'd use this in situations where you want fast lookups and want to maintain the collection in order by the key, and where insertions and deletions are rare. The Non-Associative Containers The other container classes are non-associative. They don't use keys to manipulate the collection but rely on the object itself being stored or some other means (such as index) to manipulate the collection. The List<T> is a basic contiguous storage container. Some people may call this a vector or dynamic array. Essentially it is an array of items that grow once its current capacity is exceeded. Because the items are stored contiguously as an array, you can access items in the List<T> by index very quickly. However inserting and removing in the beginning or middle of the List<T> are very costly because you must shift all the items up or down as you delete or insert respectively. However, adding and removing at the end of a List<T> is an amortized constant operation - O(1). Typically List<T> is the standard go-to collection when you don't have any other constraints, and typically we favor a List<T> even over arrays unless we are sure the size will remain absolutely fixed. The LinkedList<T> is a basic implementation of a doubly-linked list. This means that you can add or remove items in the middle of a linked list very quickly (because there's no items to move up or down in contiguous memory), but you also lose the ability to index items by position quickly. Most of the time we tend to favor List<T> over LinkedList<T> unless you are doing a lot of adding and removing from the collection, in which case a LinkedList<T> may make more sense. The HashSet<T> is an unordered collection of unique items. This means that the collection cannot have duplicates and no order is maintained. Logically, this is very similar to having a Dictionary<TKey,TValue> where the TKey and TValue both refer to the same object. This collection is very useful for maintaining a collection of items you wish to check membership against. For example, if you receive an order for a given vendor code, you may want to check to make sure the vendor code belongs to the set of vendor codes you handle. In these cases a HashSet<T> is useful for super-quick lookups where order is not important. Once again, like in Dictionary, the type T should have a valid implementation of GetHashCode() and Equals(), or you should provide an appropriate IEqualityComparer<T> to the HashSet<T> on construction. The SortedSet<T> is to HashSet<T> what the SortedDictionary<TKey,TValue> is to Dictionary<TKey,TValue>. That is, the SortedSet<T> is a binary tree where the key and value are the same object. This once again means that adding/removing/lookups are logarithmic - O(log n) - but you gain the ability to iterate over the items in order. For this collection to be effective, type T must implement IComparable<T> or you need to supply an external IComparer<T>. Finally, the Stack<T> and Queue<T> are two very specific collections that allow you to handle a sequential collection of objects in very specific ways. The Stack<T> is a last-in-first-out (LIFO) container where items are added and removed from the top of the stack. Typically this is useful in situations where you want to stack actions and then be able to undo those actions in reverse order as needed. The Queue<T> on the other hand is a first-in-first-out container which adds items at the end of the queue and removes items from the front. This is useful for situations where you need to process items in the order in which they came, such as a print spooler or waiting lines. So that's the basic collections. In fact they indicate that for the most part you should always favor the generic or concurrent collections, and only use the original collections when you are dealing with legacy .NET code. Because these collections are out of vogue, let's just briefly mention the original collection and their generic equivalents: ArrayList A dynamic, contiguous collection of objects. Favor the generic collection List<T> instead. Hashtable Associative, unordered collection of key-value pairs of objects. Favor the generic collection Dictionary<TKey,TValue> instead. Queue First-in-first-out (FIFO) collection of objects. Favor the generic collection Queue<T> instead. SortedList Associative, ordered collection of key-value pairs of objects. Favor the generic collection SortedList<T> instead. Stack Last-in-first-out (LIFO) collection of objects. Favor the generic collection Stack<T> instead. In general, the older collections are non-type-safe and in some cases less performant than their generic counterparts. Once again, the only reason you should fall back on these older collections is for backward compatibility with legacy code and libraries only. The Concurrent Collections: System.Collections.Concurrent namespace The concurrent collections are new as of .NET 4.0 and are included in the System.Collections.Concurrent namespace. These collections are optimized for use in situations where multi-threaded read and write access of a collection is desired. The concurrent queue, stack, and dictionary work much as you'd expect. Understanding how these collections work and knowing in which situations each container is best is one of the key skills necessary to build more performant code. Choosing the wrong collection for the job can make your code much slower or even harder to maintain if you choose one that doesn’t perform as well or otherwise doesn’t exactly fit the situation. • Error starting JBoss 5.1.0

  I've installed JBoss 5.1.0 on a Xubuntu (running as a guest on VMWare - Windows 7 host). It did work fine for some days, but now I'm completelly unable to start it anymore. Every time I try to start it, I got a "Port 8x83 already in use". I've tried to run it with different ports configurations, and none of them works. I did look for the services using the problematic ports, using netstat and lsof, but they never show up. Since this error occurs in all port configurations, I think this is a Jboss problem.   I have installed the RTnet over Xenomai. RTnet compiled well, and I also tested loopback on the single machine and was able to ping. However I noticed ./rtnet start showing the following output: What should I interpret when all it says is "no such device"? • can't figure out why apache LDAP auth fails

  Suddenly, yesterday, one of my apache servers became unable to connect to my LDAP (AD) server. I have two sites running on that server, both of which use LDAP to auth against my AD server when a user logs in to either site. It had been working fine two days ago. For reasons unknown, as of yesterday, it stopped working. The error log only says this: auth_ldap authenticate: user foo authentication failed; URI /FrontPage [LDAP: ldap_simple_bind_s() failed][Can't contact LDAP server], referer: http://mysite.com/ I thought perhaps my self-signed SSL cert had expired, so I created a new one for mysite.com, but not for the server hostname itself, and the problem persisted. I enabled debug-level logging. It shows the full SSL transaction with the LDAP server, and it appears to complete without errors until the very end when I get the "Can't contact LDAP server" message. I can run ldapsearch from the commandline on this server, and I can login to it, which also uses LDAP, so I know that the server can connect to and query the LDAP/AD server. It is only apache that cannot connect. Googling for an answer has turned up nothing, so I'm asking here. Can anybody provide insight to this problem? • IIS 7.5 Manager crashes when adding a custom error page

  I'm running a local IIS 7.5 server in Win 7 Pro, and I'm trying to add a custom error page for 403 responses. When I click OK to add a custom error page for my site, IIS Manager just vanishes. The server is still running, and I can re-start IIS Manager, but the new page has not been saved. I've also tried adding it directly to web.config, but that just gives me The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. Does anyone know why this might be happening? Edit: The event log implies that an invalid character in the path caused the crash, but It occured even when I copied & pasted a path from a valid entry. • TCP: Address already in use exception - possible causes for client port? NO PORT EXHAUSTION

  Hello, stupid problem. I get those from a client connecting to a server. Sadly, the setup is complicated making debugging complex - and we run out of options. The environment: *Client/Server system, both running on the same machine. The client is actually a service doing some database manipulation at specific times. * The cnonection comes from C# going through OleDb to an EasySoft JDBC driver to a custom written JDBC server that then hosts logic in C++. Yeah, compelx - but the third party supplier decided to expose the extension mechanisms for their server through a JDBC interface. Not a lot can be done here ;) The Symptom: At (ir)regular intervals we get a "Address already in use: connect" told from the JDBC driver. They seem to come from one particular service we run. Now, I did read all the stuff about port exhaustion. This is why we have a little tool running now that counts ports and their states every minute. Last time this happened, we had an astonishing 370 ports in use, with the count rising to about 900 AFTER the error. We aleady patched the registry (it is a windows machine) to allow more than the 5000 client ports standard, but even then, we are far far from that limit to start with. Which is why I am asking here. Ayneone an ide what ELSE could cause this? It is a Windows 2003 Server machine, 64 bit. The only other thing I can see that may cause it (but this functionality is supposedly disabled) is Symantec Endpoint Protection that is installed on the server - and being capable of actinc as a firewall, it could possibly intercept network traffic. I dont want to open a can of worms by pointing to Symantec prematurely (if pointing to Symantec can ever be seen as such). So, anyone an idea what else may be the cause? Thanks

• 2010 cgi script failure

  Hi. I hope you can help, I'm just a beginner! I have listed a few extra details which may not be relevant. I upload cgi scripts onto local/personal directory on a Apache/2.2.10 server, using FTP95Pro in ASCII. The scripts execute correctly using perl on my web-server in a terminal session. Thus my code has no fatal syntax errors. Webpages 'action' each cgi script at /cgi-bin/. There are symbolic links which link system directory files to my local directory files. FollowSymLinks is enabled (unsure how). Permissions are correct (755). This set-up hasnt changed, apparently. The scripts have excuted perfectly for years, up to 2010. But now, in 2010, I have replaced working scripts with new script/files, now with exactly the same text, filename and permissions. Only the date (last modified) has changed. But now I receive a 500 Internal Server Error, and cannot determine why. My server administator assumes I have code errors. But code is unchanged since last year, and it runs fine (albeit no arguments) on web-server console using perl myscript.cgi Is there anything you can think of which may have changed ? I'm suspicious of the new decade. I think the server swapped from Linux to Windows OS last year, but my server administrator got it all working OK. Is there something unusual he may have missed, related to 2010 ? Thank you in advance

I've also disabled the Windows Firewall, that might of been blocking the synchronization. I've done a file scan with sfc /scannow that came back with no errors. • New Static Website with Hosted DNS alternating 502, 503 and Page Does Not Exist Errors

  This has become an increasingly frustrating ordeal. I'm mostly a web developer, so forgive me if I am using improper terminology here. I have a client that had purchased a domain at JustHost. We built him a website and have it on our own server space. Now, I'm mostly used to dealing with godaddy and it is simple enough to manage dns records and point the A record to our server IP, where Apache on our end deals with the domains via name-based virtual hosts. But for some reason, in setting this up with JustHost, when attempting to go to the domain name, I either get a 502 or 503 error or "webpage does not exist". Now, I know that the basic functionality of the webpage must be working because I can access the the index etc straight through my servers www data (IE [server-ip]/website_folder). I was on the phone with technical support for over three hours yesterday with justhost and the best I could get was "That's really weird..." I've checked my logs and there doesn't seem to be anything coming through to my end. Does anybody have an idea of whats going on here? I would love for it to be a problem on my end, because justhost doesn't seem capable of helping further. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks. I forgot to mention that we have several other sites up and running and completely accessible.

• Redirect 301 fails with a path as destination

  I'm using a large number of Redirect 301's which are suddenly failing on a new webserver. We're in pre-production tests on the new webserver, prior to migrating the sites, but some sites are failing with 500 Internal Server Error. The content, both databases and files, are mirrored from the old to the new server, so we can test if all sites work properly. I traced this problem to mod_alias' Redirect statement, which is used from .htaccess to redirect visitors and search engines from old content to new pages. Apparently the Apache server requires the destination to be a full url, including protocol and hostname. Redirect 301 /directory/ /target/ # Not Valid Redirect 301 /main.html / # Not Valid Redirect 301 /directory/ http://www.example.com/target/ # Valid Redirect 301 /main.html http://www.example.com/ # Valid This contradicts the Apache documentation for Apache 2.2, which states: The new URL should be an absolute URL beginning with a scheme and hostname, but a URL-path beginning with a slash may also be used, in which case the scheme and hostname of the current server will be added. Of course I verified that we're using Apache 2.2 on both the old and the new server. The old server is a Gentoo box with Apache 2.2.11, while the new one is a RHEL 5 box with Apache 2.2.3. The workaround would be to change all paths to full URL's, or to convert the statements to mod_rewrite rules, but I'd prefer the documented behaviour. What are your experiences?

• Unable to Align Layers in Photoshop Properly with CS2

  Cannot Align Semi-Transparent Items? Windows Vista, Photoshop CS2. Steps to repeat: Create new document Fill a circle on a new layer Drop opacity of filled circle to 10% Create new empty layer below circle layer Merge empty layer with filled circle layer Select entire canvas Attempt to align layers to selectionlayer > align layers to selection > vertical centers I get the following error: Could not complete the Vertical Centers command because there are no layers to be moved. Clearly this is not true, as I'm selecting the layer with the semi-translucent ball on it. Now, if you had tried this same command prior to step 5 (when the layer was at 10% opacity) it would have worked. Is there some way around this problem? I need to move layers around that begin as transparent items, with a layer opacity at 100% where 100% of the layers opacity results in showing objects that are themselves not-very opaque. I've confirmed on another machine that this problem doesn't exist in CS3. I may exist in earlier copies of Photoshop, but I only have access to CS2 (has the problem) and CS3 (does not have the problem).

• How do I get rid of these "There is a problem with your tablet driver" messages?

  Every time I run certain applications (including but not limited to GIMP, Microsoft Visual Studio, and 3DS Max), I get the following message box: There is a problem with your tablet driver. Please reboot your system. If the problem persists reinstall or update the driver. Obviously I've tried rebooting and that hasn't fixed anything. Secondly, I'm not running a tablet PC. This is just Windows XP SP3 running on a Dell Precision PWS490 desktop workstation. How do I get rid of these error messages? The applications still load normally after dismissing them, but they're rather annoying. Using Process Explorer, I got the call stack from the message box. It's coming from wintab32.dll. Here's the call stack when running GIMP (irrelevant frames omitted): ... 8 USER32.dll!MessageBoxA+0x45 9 wintab32.dll!WTMgrPacketHookExA+0x44a 10 libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll!gdk_display_list_devices+0x37 ... So, does anyone know how I can get an updated version of wintab32.dll or have any other ideas? I've been keeping my system up to date with Windows Updates. The timestamp on wintab32.dll is 2007-03-30 17:38, and its MD5 sum is ffdc332007c9dc6dd346c8ac2b09a015.
