Will moving to Facebook/Disqus Commenting lighten the load on my server any?

I manage a site that gets about 50 million hits a month. It's a Wordpress site, load balanced over 6 servers, and has a varnish caching system setup. Right now, 95 - 97% of the time, page views hit the cache. The only time it serves up a new page from the server is when a new story is created, or someone is logged in looking at the stories and commenting. What I am trying to figure out is that if I move over to Facebook Comments or Disqus commenting, and get rid of the users entirely, will that lighten the load? I would think it would because the only time you would be hitting the server, and not the cache, is when you're logged in - which only the admins would be. I know it's only 2.5 - 3% but I wasn't 100% sure.

The old site sits on domain A and also has another domain, domain B parked on top of it mirroring it. Google has picked up domain B for most of his search engine results and yahoo and bing etc have picked up domain A. The plan is to 301 redirect the the old pages of his site on domain A to the new WordPress versions and park domain B on top of it like before. My question is, will this work, if not what would be a better way to approach it? I am trying to create a backup of my website for free. I just want to have a backup of my website, including not only all files and the configuration but also the databases. I mean, a full backup. If it can be done automatically, it would be better. I feel there are better ways than using the cpanel to achieve that (actually, I believe sometimes web hosters does not have any cpanel). I read the following on how to do it: Automatically mirror the entire contents and configuration of your main server to a secondary backup server on a completely separate network in a different data centre. Use RSync, FXP, cPanel voodoo, or whatever method you wish to automate syncing. That is why I installed Rsync Daemon which is an alternative to SSH for remote backups. I configured it but the test went wrong. Too many access denied errors showing in Google Webmaster Tools every day

I get 18,000 access denied error showing in Google Webmaster Tools every day! So strange it shows for URL's with www and not no-www. Fetch as Google works perfectly for pages got that error. Google starts to downgrade my website - impressions have dropped from 35,000 to 18,000. I am using cloud flair CDN and .htaccess mod_rewrite. Any help will be extremely appreciated as I am really loosing control.

Apache DVB http video Streaming bandwidth or priority problem

I'm streaming few precompressed DVB videos from cloud. The streams are generated from VLC on "impossible" ports (such as 64085, 64086 etc) reverse proxed by Apache on port 80 and 8080. All the generated streams are listed in "http://95.110.164.61/indexv.html". From an ADSL connection with enough downlink bandwidth, recalling the stream generated by VLC (such as "http://95.110.164.61:64087/mpg2_6.4") it flows fluently. Recalling the same stream proxed by Apache ("http://95.110.164.61/mpg2_6.4") the stream stops and goes. The only situation in which the Apache proxed streams flow regularly is from a site connected through 64 Mbps warranted bandwith with RTT to the server less than 10 mseconds. Please note that streams below 2 Mbps are fluently proxed. The system is a single core xeon with windows 2008 R2 on 4 GB of RAM with 1 Gbps of network bandwidth. The drain of computational and bandwidth resources is negligeable, the RAM usage always lower than 50%. On the system I run many VLC streamers. Any of them drains a variable amount of RAM (from about 25 to 70 MB). On the contrary the couple of httpd.exe processes drain no more than 7 MB. Using Wireshark (on the server) I see that VLC directy send to the client much more packets than Apache, and the stream is framgmented on many frames. I'm not a programmer, a newby of Apache. Can anyone please address me to a specific portion of the Apache's huge documentation? Thank you. igino

Hide folder names or such?

Okay, I have a cpanel account with unmetered everything (pay a bit per month), so I wanna host my forum on it etc I have the domains as lets say money.com wordpress.com forum.com As I'll have to put everything in different folders for instance money will be in /m/ wordpress /w/ and forum in /forum/ or something. What I'm saying is, how do I hide the file so it'll look like money.com/m/ is actually money.com ?? I need to hide the folder name the contents are in so I can host multiple sites, therefore the site will look like its the only site on the host so I don't have to add a redirect for it to direct it to the folder? Resize content for "frame" on .aspx page which draws product content from suppliers' page

I have a retail store site, no online sales, which displays the webpage of our supplier in a "frame" in order to have the most accurate and up to date information for our customers. (example) My issue is that the size of the page it is pulling in doesn't fit in the frame. It looks pretty poor, and part of the content is obscured. Is there a way to scale the content drawn in to the size of the frame? The same site also has an intermittent issue with the Flash banner loading. When it doesn't load, the layout of the header on the page is awful. Any ideas there will also be appreciated.

How can I exclude content in my notifications bar from being indexed?

Of course I want my content to be indexed pretty fast by search engines, however not my notifications bar. My notifications bar contains the last 30 changes to content on the site, and I don't want this to show in my SEO meta. As all the notifications are generic, it often doesn't provide any relevant information. As I said the notifications are generic. If an article named "123" was created, it would create a notification that says "Article "123" was created by xxx at 12:00AM". I'm now wondering if this is a content design problem. As only 1/3 of this information is actually relevant to users (the title, what happened). By SEO meta, and irrelevant notification data being shown, I mean this - Basically what I was wondering, is how I could optimise this, so search engines wouldn't show this generic nonsense.

For example I've copied related companies product FAQ's "as is" in the site. Moreover I'm not supposed to modify a company's product's faqs. I fear my login may be banned by Adsense if I submit it. So I want to know: 1) Whether I can submit it for Adsense account 2) Whether Google can penalize me and in what way 3) How would Google come to know that the duplicate content on my site is not copyrighted?

Rewriting a URL for tomcat through an ajp connection

I've tried several attempts to resolve this, but all have come up naught. Currently I have apache setup to forward all urls at and past the /portal/ tag to tomcat. Unfortunately, tomcat receives these requests through /portal/appName, a subdirectory in webapps rather than the webapps root directory where my wars are deployed. Is there a simple solution to this that I'm not seeing? I've been trying to use mod_rewrite to ^/portal/ $ / but that doesn't yield the expected results (perhaps I'm doing this wrong?).

I have had a quick look but couldn't see anything related. Basically, if we were to accept payments for events on our website, via paypal (essentially a Buy it now! button), as a business, do we need a merchant's account, or will a regular bank account be acceptable? I may have some confusion in terms. My understanding is you need a merchant's account to accept credit card payments, but as we are using PayPal, is this necessary? Webserver insists on opening "blog1.php" instead of "index.php"

I'm at my wits' end. I have just ripped out a website and in the process of rebuilding everything. Previously, the 'home page' of the website is a blog, with the address "www.mydomain.com/blog1.php". After exporting everything, I deleted the whole directory, and -- based on request -- immediately create a blog/ directory. The idea is to get the blog back up as soon as possible, and temporarily redirect people accessing www.mydomain.com to the blog. Accessing the blog via http://www.mydomain.com/blog/ works. So I put in an index.php file containing a (temporary) redirect to the blog's address. The problem: The server insists on opening blog1.php instead of index.php. Even after we deleted all the files (including .htaccess). And even putting in a new .htaccess file with the single line of DirectoryIndex index.php doesn't work. The server stubbornly wants blog1.php. Now, the server is actually a webhosting, so I have no actual access to it. I have to do my work via cPanel. Currently, I work around this issue by creating blog1.php; but I really want to know why the server does not revert to opening index.php. Did I perhaps miss some important settings in the byzantine cPanel menu page?

I find the W3C's official Offline Web Applications specification to be rather vague about how the cache manifest interacts with headers such as ETag, Expires, or Pragma on cached assets. I know that the manifest should be checked with each request so that the browser knows when to check the other assets for updates. But because the specification doesn't define how the cache manifest interacts with normal cache instructions, I can't predict precisely how the browser will react. Will assets with a future expiration date be refreshed (no matter the cache headers) when the cache manifest is updated? Or, will those assets obey the normal caching rules? Which caching mechanism, HTTP cache versus cache manifest, will take precedence, and when?

Remove third/nth level domains from google Index

Somehow google has indexed some third(and fourth!) level domains that I had attached to my server temporarily, eg. my.domain.root.com. I now have these redirected properly where I would like them to go, however with a carefully crafted search one can still find them and I'd rather they not be exposed. My google foo skills have failed me in finding an answer, so I come to you wonderful folks: Is there a way/How do I remove sub-level domains from google search results? I have the site in google webmaster tools and verified, but all the URL removal requests I can perform append the url to the base url, not prefixed. And finally, how can I prevent this in the future?

Best way to redirect users back to the pretty URL who land on the _escaped_fragment_ one?

I am working on an AJAX site and have successfully implemented Google's AJAX recommendation by creating _escape_fragment_ versions of each page for it to index. Thus each page has 2 URLs: pretty: example.com#!blog ugly: example.com?_escaped_fragment_=blog However, I have noticed in my analytics that some users are arriving on the site via the "ugly" URL and am looking for a clean way to redirect them to the pretty URL without impacting Google's ability to index the site. I have considered using a 301 redirect in the head but fear that Googlebot might try to follow it and end up in an endless loop. I have also considered using a JavaScript redirect that Googlebot wouldn't execute but fear that Google may interpret this as cloaking and penalize the website. Is there a good, clean, acceptable way to redirect real users away from the ugly URL if for some reason or another they end up arriving at the site that way?

I manage a website. In order to lead the visitor to the latest post when entering the website, I set a 302 redirect from the homepage URL to the latest post URL. There's 1 to 2 posts a month so the redirection is made manually each time a new post gets published. Despite the website registration on google it doesn't get indexed at all. After searching for some solution on blogs and forums I understood this issue might be related to the 302 redirection. It's the first time I use redirections on a website, can someone help me?
