  • How to make a composite Zend Form Element that includes a Dojo Field

    - by Joe
    I used the zendcast video to get me this far. The form is properly displayed. However, I need to change the display order box into a number box of zend dojo type. I cannot figure it out. Even help with examples would be great. <?php class My_View_Helper_CategoryDetailElement extends Zend_View_Helper_FormElement { protected $html = ''; public function CategoryDetailElement($name, $value = null, $attribs = null) { $type = $description = $displayOrder = $time = ''; if($value) { $type = $value->type; $description = $value->description; $displayOrder = $value->displayOrder; $time = $value->time; } $helper = new Zend_View_Helper_FormText(); $helper->setView($this->view); $helper_label = new Zend_View_Helper_FormLabel(); $helper_label->setView($this->view); $helper_select = new Zend_View_Helper_FormSelect(); $helper_select->setView($this->view); $helper_textarea = new Zend_View_Helper_FormTextarea(); $helper_textarea->setView($this->view); $this->html .= $helper_label->formLabel($name . '[type]', 'Type: ', array()); $this->html .= $helper_select->formSelect($name . '[type]', $type, array(), array('individual'=>'individual', 'team'=>'team')); $this->html .= "<br />"; $this->html .= $helper_label->formLabel($name . '[description]', 'Description: ', array()); $this->html .= $helper_textarea->formTextarea($name . '[description]', $description, array()); $this->html .= "<br />"; $this->html .= $helper_label->formLabel($name . '[displayOrder]', 'Display Order: ', array()); $this->html .= $helper->formText($name . '[displayOrder]', $displayOrder, array()); $this->html .= "<br />"; $this->html .= $helper_label->formLabel($name . '[time]', 'Time: ', array()); $this->html .= $helper->formText($name . '[time]', $time, array()); return $this->html; } } ?>

  • Make a compiled binary run at native speed flawlessly without recompiling from source on a another system?

    - by unknownthreat
I know that many people, at a first glance of the question, may immediately yell out "Java", but no, I know Java's qualities. Allow me to elaborate my question first. Normally, when we want our program to run at a native speed on a system, whether it be Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux, we need to compile from source codes. If you want to run a program of another system in your system, you need to use a virtual machine or an emulator. While these tools allow you to use the program you need on the non-native OS, they sometimes have problems of performance and glitches. We also have a newer compiler called "JIT Compiler", where the compiler will parse the bytecode program to native machine language before execution. The performance may increase to a very good extent with JIT Compiler, but the performance is still not the same as running it on a native system. Another program on Linux, WINE, is also a good tool for running Windows program on Linux system. I have tried running Team Fortress 2 on it, and tried experiment with some settings. I got ~40 fps on Windows at its mid-high setting on 1280 x 1024. On Linux, I need to turn everything low at 1280 x 1024 to get ~40 fps. There are 2 notable things though: Polygon model settings do not seem to affect framerate whether I set it low or high. When there are post-processing effects or some special effects that require manipulation of drawn pixels of the current frame, the framerate will drop to 10-20 fps. From this point, I can see that normal polygon rendering is just fine, but when it comes to newer rendering methods that requires graphic card to the job, it slows down to a crawl. Anyway, this question is rather theoretical. Is there anything we can do at all? I see that WINE can run STEAM and Team Fortress 2. Although there are flaws, they can run at lower setting. Or perhaps, I should also ask, "is it possible to translate one whole program on a system to another system without recompiling from source and get native speed?" I see that we also have AOT Compiler, is it possible to use it for something like this? Or there are so many constraints (such as DirectX call or differences in software architecture) that make it impossible to have a flawless and not native to the system program that runs at native speed?

  • Asp.Net MVC and Entity Framework Architecture

    - by Pino
Hi, I'm working on a fairly large project at the moment and am currently in the planning stages. I've done a lot of reading into the various patterns suggested for development, somthing that has split the team at the moment is when using Entity Framework should the classes be passed through the applciation layers so that a view accepts an Entity Framework class or should these classes be mapped to BLL Classes and if so at which point (Controller or Library) should this be done? I'm interested in hearing some positives and negitives for each solutions.

  • Git aliases that are stored in origin

    - by jga
I use git with a big development team and I'd like to have a set of aliases be common across every developer. They change every so often, so I'd like to store them in origin somehow. Is there any way to set that up in git? I'm using gitosis for the git server (not sure if that would make a difference).

  • Looking for programmer in NYC

    - by Oren
I have taken the idea of "language maintenance" a niche that no one is paying attention to and created a company focused on live conversation with complimentary tools. Looking to create a web 2.0 style social network with an already clearly defined brand identity, design and plan. Already have assembled a team but am looking for a passionate programmer to take the technical lead and create a functional alpha and beta.

  • CodeIgniter, Unit Testing, and Continuous Integration

    - by blork
As part of a University project, my team and I have to set up automated unit testing with CruiseControl.rb. We chose to use CodeIgniter for the project, and are having some problems getting everything working together. Does anyone have experience setting up such a configuration? Some of the unit testing frameworks we've tried are: PHPUnit SimpleTest Toast ...but we've had no success with any of them.

  • Javascript: Inline function vs predefined functions

    - by glaz666
Can any body throw me some arguments for using inline functions against passing predefined function name to some handler. I.e. which is better: (function(){ setTimeout(function(){ /*some code here*/ }, 5); })(); versus (function(){ function invokeMe() { /*code*/ } setTimeout(invokeMe, 5); })(); Strange question, but we are almost fighting in the team about this

  • Will VS2010 work with VSS2005?

    - by DanH
Until I can convince others to convert over to Team Foundation Server 2010 (TFS2010), I'm still going to use Visual Source Safe 2005 (VSS2005). I will be upgrade to Visual Studio 2010 (VS2010) soon. What do I need to get VS2010 to work with VSS2005? I understand there is a patch for VSS.

  • "For money, always decimal" ???

    - by Dryadwoods
Well, the rule "For money, always decimal" isn't applied inside the Microsoft development team, because if it was: Namespace: Microsoft.VisualBasic Assembly: Microsoft.VisualBasic (in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll) Financial.IPmt and all the other methods would receive/return decimal and not double as it is. Now I wonder if I can use this methods without worry with round mistakes? Should I use some other libraries to work with finances? If yes, could you point me some good ones (for C# use) ? Thank you.

  • Using version control with SSIS packages (saving 'sensitive' data)

    - by sandesh247
Hi. We are a team working on a bunch of SSIS packages, which we share using version control (SVN). We have three ways of saving sensitive data in these packages : not storing them at all storing them with a user key storing them with a password However, each of these options is inconvenient while testing packages saved and committed by an other developer. For each such package, one has to update the credentials, no matter how the sensitive data was persisted. Is there a better way to collaborate on SSIS packages?

  • Commit in SVN without letting other to checkout - is it possible?

    - by strDisplayName
Hey everybody, I am using SVN as my source control with ANKH and TortoiseSVN. I am writing a huge change in a project, and it takes a few days to make the change, but in the meantime I still want to commit once in a while for backup. But if I commit other team members will get updated with my unfinished work. Is there a way that I can "commit for backup" without changing the revision (so other won't get updated with my changes)? Thanks!

  • Source control system for single developer

    - by kaiz.net
What's the recommended source control system for a very small team (one developer)? Price does not matter. Customer would pay :-) I'm working on Vista32 with VS 2008 in C++ and later in C# and with WPF. Setting up an extra (physical) server for this seems overkill to me. Any opinions?

  • Contributing to the Status Bar/Trim in Eclipse RCP

    - by Robert Wilson
I have a requirement to show a status indicator in the status bar of an Eclipse application. I can't contribute through the ApplicationWindowAdviser (another team owns the core product), but I feel sure that I should be able to contribute through an extension point. Despite much googling, I can't find anything describing how to do this.

  • how to know which special character is there in a file?

    - by Pangea
My app needs to process text files during a batch process. Occassionally I receive a file with some special character at the end of the file. I am not sure what that special character is. Is there anyway I can find what that character is so that I can tell the other team which is producing that file. I have used mozilla's library to guess the file encoding and it says UTF-8.

  • ColdFusion vs PHP

    - by Drek
Can anyone share with me (without fervent evangelism, please) any comparative experiences you might have with regard to ColdFusion and PHP in developing internal enterprise browser-based applications? Specifically (but not limited to): 1: Do the rapid-development characteristics of ColdFusion compensate for any performance issues resulting from the additional overhead? 2: Is either particularly suited to individual or team development? 3: Is rapidly developing an application in ColdFusion and then porting it to PHP to improve performance a proposition that only a madman or venture capitalist would consider?

  • What is an MQ and why do I want to use it?

    - by daveslab
Hi folks, On my team at work, we use the IBM MQ technology a lot for cross-application communication. I've seen lately on Hacker News and other places about other MQ technologies like RabbitMQ. I have a basic understanding of what it is (a commonly checked area to put and get messages), but what I want to know what exactly is it good at? How will I know where I want to use it and when? Why not just stick with more rudimentary forms of interprocess messaging?
