• Apache/Jboss Issue - is this connection timeout?

  We have an application. The architecture is as below 1 load balancer (apache), which redirects to 2 app servers (jboss). The site is working fine and I am able to access it fine. But sometimes, randomly the homepage takes a while (like 30-40 secs) to load. I tried checking the logs but could not figure out why. I used the httptraffic analyzer, fiddler to see the traffic, but it just says the request/response took 30 secs or so. I checked the apache access logs, mod_jk.log. • WinXP: File Record Segment nnnn is unreadable?

  I'm pretty sure that the drive is toast, except for the fact that this error is only showing up on one partition (it's out of a Dell computer, and has a couple of Dell partitions, which boot and work fine.) I've already purchased another hard drive, and re-installed WinXP, but when I re-connect this drive and reboot, I'm getting thousands of these errors. Is there any chance of recovering any files off this? Should I prevent XP from trying to resolve the problems?

• Streaming Netflix through Wifi kills all other devices

  I have a "Belkin N150" Router. My current setup is wired connection to my personal tv and xbox with wireless going to the Wii and Bedroom laptop. Anytime I try streaming Netflix Instant Queue on the Wii, every other device has problems. The Wii works fine but everything else's connection is destroyed. Streaming through the Xbox doesn't create any issues for other devices. What kind of issue is occurring and how can I fix it?

• Can Mac KeyNote presentations exported for Windows be shown in good quality and be edited?

  A friend asked me this: ...I stopped using KeyNote for one simple reason – contrary to the Mac marketing blurb, the final presentations do NOT work fine on Windows PCs – they look distorted and have formatting quirks which cannot be corrected because the Windows/Powerpoint file it has supposedly been saved as is in fact a non-editable file, kind of like a pdf. Is there a way to create Mac KeyNote presentation files so they look nice on Windows and can be edited?

• Can I receive mail at another port like 465 instead of default 25 on my mail server?

  My Zimbra mail server, which uses Postfix, is working fine. I am able to receive mail at 25 from Yahoo, Hotmail etc., but if I block my 25 port for incoming then mail will stop to come into my mail server as my secure SMTP port 465 is already running.   I picked up an ASUS EEE 1101HA with Windows 7 and installed UBUNTU 10.4 Netbook Remix (dual boot). Ubuntu runs fine, but it doesn't recognize that the notebook LCD is 1388x768 and thus only offers 1024x768 and 800x600 as monitor resolution. So .. how can I tell it about that higher resolution? (Have root pwd & vi, una-bash-ed to use both.. )

  I have a batch script that does reporting on our systems and part of it queries the registry for information. The script fails to get the key's value when its ran by the system, but whenever I run the script myself, it works perfectly the command: REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange\CurrentVersion" /v PatternStringFormatted > current1.tmp should return: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange\CurrentVersion PatternStringFormatted REG_SZ 6.645.00 This script is failing on a Server 2008 R2 machine, but runs fine on Server 2003 R2 machines.

• Capturing wireless traffic (using Wireshark).

  When I run wireshark on a wired network it works fine and reports all of the packets. When I run it on a wireless network though I only see my own traffic. The wireless card I have is supposed to support packet capture and go into premiscous mode, but I don't see any other system traffic. What is wrong?

  So, Notepad++ got updated to v6.0. One of their new features is PCRE (Perl Compatible Regular Expressions). I tried to use this new feature to find and replace things in a file. I tried the regular expression: {\$([a-zA-Z_]*)} and it yelled at me, saying "Invalid regular expression". I tested this regex in other programs (like my main IDE, Geany), and it worked fine. Why does this not work in Notepad++ 6.0?

• VMWare ESXi virtual machine can contact the gateway but not the DNS server

  I am having a bit of a strange issue. I have a VMWare ESXi server with two virtual machines running on it. They are running just fine and can communicate on the network without a problem. I am now trying to add a third. I am installing Ubuntu 8.04 Server. I assign it a static IP address and it's a fresh installation. Once installed I can ping the gateway but I cannot ping the DNS server. It's on the same network with the other two VMs which are communicating just fine. I have tried to reinstall the operating system but it still fails to connect. One interesting thing I notice is the arp reply's MAC doesn't look right. I have cleared the FortiGate's ARP cache though and checked the entry and it seems correct. The MAC it lists is the one for the router. • running localhost mta vs. php smtp'ing via 3rd party api

  so the question is, would it be "better" to run localhost mta (ie. postfix) or "better" to use 3rd party restful api, embedded in the application, to send email? i am curious what people would do here. i find postfix on linux allows much greater flexibility and control. the default sendmail/postfix logging (/var/log/maillog) suits me fine, and you can even set limits via iptables on per uuid's which allows rate-limiting apps.

  My Word 2007 spell-check seems to work fine, except that when I paste in text from somewhere else, it won't detect any misspellings in that pasted text...no matter what I try. If it makes any difference, when I paste in text, the formatting is preserved (size color etc). Any ideas on what to try?

• gvim Cannot make changes, 'modifiable' is off issues with file explorer.

  In gvim using netrw(the file explorer), I usually middle click a file to open it in the last active window. This just leads to an error stating "Cannot make changes, 'modifiable' is off". Another middle click, and the file opens fine where I expect it to. All buffers are saved, there's no uncommuted changes anywhere. What causes this, and what can I do about it ? • Which keymap to use for wired mac keyboard in Gentoo Linux?

  I just purchase the new wired mac keyboard: Running on Gentoo Linux it works mostly fine. The only problem i am having is the function keys and swapping the alt and command keys to resemble a regular pc keyboard. When I tried switching to the "mac-us" keymap in /etc/conf.d/keymaps I got garbage when typing (not even qwerty). Is there any specific keymap that I can use to get what I want?

• Debian + ProFTPD + LDAP Incorrect Password Issue

  I have the LDAP configuration configured for ProFTPD and I have modified the modules.conf file to include the LDAP module. However, every time I login with FileZilla I get 530 Login Incorrect. It does this for all users except those whose passwords are defined locally as well as in LDAP. The exact same setup works fine on my CentOS server and I've already tried re-installing it after purging the configuration files.

Socket is still /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock (only changing datadir in my.cnf) Now, all data in /var/lib/mysql has been copied to /home/lib/mysql MySQL has been started and everything is fine. Now time to cleaning up data in /var/lib/mysql but I'm not sure what data can and cannot be removed in /var/lib/mysql this is data (except database name) in /var/lib/mysql: ibdata1 ib_logfile0 ib_logfile1 mysql
