• Version control and personal configuration file

  Our project uses a user-specific configuration file. This file is currently not in version control, since it is different for each user. The problem is, whenever a developer adds a new module that requires configuration, or changes the name of an existing modules, the other developers get errors because their private configuration files are not updated. To solve the problem, we thought of working with two configuration files: a default/global configuration file that will be in version control and will be updated regularly by each developer that adds a new module, and a private configuration file that will be kept out of version control and will contain only the user-specific changes. However, this still seems like an ad-hoc solution. Can you propose a better solution? What do the professionals do?

• Can I remove the latest ubuntu version without having to reinstall the old version?

  I was using the 2.6 kernels with no problems, but when I updated to the 3.0 kernel, my bootup failed. I can manually boot with ctrl+alt+f1 startx and my login, but admittedly, i googled this and have no idea what I'm really doing. I have been trying to figure out how to go back to the old version, and eventually figured out the grub menu--i booted from all three 2.6 (.8, .10, and .11) editions of the previous version of ubuntu but they all had the same error as the 3.0 kernal. I can get logged in manually once the boot fails, but when i get to my desktop, wireless is not responsive and will not connect, and portable hard drives do not mount and/or are unresponsive. the previous version worked perfectly. I use an asus netbook. it's an eee pc. i don't have two OSs on it. i had to go to another computer to get to the forum... If the solution is simple, i just don't know what it is.

  I have some problems with figuring out what value I should put in the function: int value_needed_to_figure_out = X; ProgressBar.incrementProgressBy(value_needed_to_figure_out); I've been researching about loading screens and how to use them. Some examples I've seen have implemented Thread.sleep() in a Handler.post(new Runnable()) function. To me, I got most of that concept of using the Handler to update the ProgressBar, while pretending to do some heavy crunching work. So, I kept looking. I have read this thread here: How do I load chunks of data from an assest manager during a loading screen? It said that I can try using a stack it needs to load, and adding a size counter as I add elements to the stack. What does it mean? This is the part where I'm totally stumped. If anyone would provide some hints, I'll gladly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

  I am developing a game using cocos2d and i got stuck here when finding location of sprite placed on rotating circle on background, so that when i hit at certain position on circle its not getting hit at wanted position,but its going away from it and placing target there.I tried printing the position of hit on spriteMoveFinished() and ccTouchesEnded(). • Empty APN list on your Android phone? Restart the phone to fix it

  Today I tried to connect to internet on my Google Galaxy Nexus running on 4.2.2 using Cellular Data connection and it failed. Tried reaching customer care representative to figure out why data connection is not working, but the robots (Interactive Voice Response systems) never allowed me to reach a human. After digging through the settings I found empty list of APN (Access Point Names) is the reason for not able to connect to internet. Not sure what caused APN list to vanish but I tried to create a new one that matches with the settings required for AT & T mobile. To my surprise I found that the newly created APN is also not shown in the APN list. Well there is something wrong with the phone – my APN’s are not shown as well as the newly created one is also not displayed. A simple Google search on this problem shown many forum discussions list and the solution to resolve the issue is to restart the phone. As soon as I restarted my phone the APN list is automatically populated and I’m able to connect to internet on my mobile.

• mismatch of version of libkdcraw20 and libkdcraw-data

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. When I'm installlin digiKam, I'm getting a mismatch in the versions of libkdcraw20 and libkdcraw-data wanted by it and that available in the repositories. It wants version 4.8.5-0ubuntu0.2 (or in other words that is the latest version according to synaptic) but the available one is 4.8.5-0ubuntu0.3 in both cases. Is there a work-around? Or how do I request the Ubuntu managers to rectify this? addenda On Synaptic i selected digikam to be installed. it downloaded all the dependencies but the 2 in question were not found - the message it gave "W: Failed to fetch security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/libk/libkdcraw/… 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.91.13 80]". I google-searched the 2 files in the repositories to find that the version available there is ubuntu0.3 instead of ubuntu0.2.

  I've looked around and can't find anything that answers my question. This is my first question, so any tips or thoughts are welcome, as well as an answer :p As explained in title, i want to create a script that launches, finds a file on android phone, copies it, and pastes it to a flash drive. As of right now, it's a mix of multiple tutorials, trial and error, and I'm at a point of giving up. As of right now, I have a flash drive, loaded with three scripts. Then run this scrip. Yes i'm trying to pull the database to copy all my email contacts. I use launch.bat, which then makes file.bat invisible due to the invisible.vbs script. What would i need to do now to have the file searched for and copied to the flashdrive? For example, if an app advertises my app in theirs - is there a way for me to find out which users actually downloaded it? And then pay that app owner a commission? On the web this is done via a tracking URL which places a cookie on a users machine. If they signup within a designated timeframe, they are 'tracked to' whomever had their affiliate code in the URL they clicked and that person would receive commissions.   I am interested in how each individual smart phone is allowed to handle data transfers within a third-party app. I am interested in designing apps that allow customers to update, transfer, download, etc. data from their smart phone to their personal computer and vice-versa. (Ranging from just text, to XML, to a Relational Database) I only have experience with the Ipod Touch before and one particular app that maintained all the data on an online server, so to update the data on your pc or iphone you had to go online, are there other ways to do it? Like bluetooth, wireless LAN, USB, etc? I believe Apple has certain policies on this in order to control the App Store and individual Iphones. I suppose each company has a particular policy on how an app is allowed to transfer data to another system, does anyone have a good understanding of this? Thank you.

  I'm making an app that will be used in multiple hospitals in the US. As per HIPAA compliance requirement, every hospital will have its own server that complies with these requirements of ensuring patient data security, etc. Now the task is that the app should communicate with a particular server based on the login info. An additional requirement is that new hospitals(servers) are likely to be added along the way, even after the app is available on the market. So basically, according to some login credentials, the app should communicate with the server of the hospital assigned to that person. One pretty crude way is to set up our own server which links the hospitals with the login info and accordingly, provides a base-url for data exchange. Is there a more efficient way to handle this?

  I've recently installed Cyanogen Mod 9 on my HP Touchpad tablet, but I'm encountering problems when trying to access it from my Ubuntu laptop (Ubuntu 11.10, Gnome-Shell, Nautilus). I've first tried accessing it via PTP as suggested here. Ubuntu will recognize the Touchpad as a digicam and only grant me access to two directories: "DCIM" and "Pictures". I then tried accessing the tablet via MTP using this post on OMGUbuntu!. Ubuntu will connect to the tablet, but only grant me access to a folder named "Playlists". I'm a bit clueless as to what I'm doing wrong and would very much appreciate any help or hints. Many thanks!
