  Me and mine friend started working together as partners , we have decided to make Kick-as* website after website. We have the ideas written down like 100's of them (yes we are choosing best and easy among them first). Mine friend do the layout design and arranging things , and mine part is coding and server management. The little problem i am facing is lack of experience in planing a project .What i do is , i just start the code straight away and along with code I make DB , Like when i need a table i make it. I know this is very bad approach for a medium sized project. Here at stackoverflow i saw lots of experienced coders . Need to learn a lot from you guys :) . So can you plese help me on how to plan a project and what coding standard/structure/frameworks to be used (I do PHP code). Thanks in advance.

  As noted by the title, what is the best way to configure an IIS 6.0 deployment of an ASP.NET MVC application such that connections to hidden shares are ignored? The application in question is using wildcard mapping to allow for clean URLs since we are planning on upgrading to IIS 7.0 in the near future and we are also handling the caching and compression issues with a custom library so we would like to avoid turning wildcard mapping off unless absolutely necessary. • ASP.NET MVC v1 project upgraded to VS 2010 no longer will debug. Why?

  I'm getting the message "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document." I have a S#arp Architecture project (ASP.NET MVC v1) that has been opened and upgraded to be used in VS 2010. I can no longer debug the project. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate. I have IE set to be my default browser. I have the build set to debug. System.Web.Mvc is referenced in my project's lib dir. I've cleaned the solution. I've recompiled the solution. It's set to use .NET Framework 3.5. PDBs are being created and dropped into the bin directory with the DLLs. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

• A Good Final High School AP Computer Science Programming Project?

  Hey guys this question might seem very specific but I am in need of some ideas for a project to do for my last month or so in my AP Computer Science class. I've been looking at some college final ideas and a lot of them just seem plain boring. At first I thought about writing a IRC client in JAVA but I wouldn't really be learning anything "new" that would help me in the future. Then I thought about doing IPhone/touch apps (I don't have an adroid phone and I can easily get my hands on an itouch) but I would need ideas to make apps for that. I want to do something that is going to feel trivial and need some explanation but will also help me in the long run learning new concepts in computer science. If you guys could help out I would greatly appreciate it. I really only have a month to do this project so try to keep the project inside of that range. Also, I don't mind learning new languages. • How do I get a reference to the current project in an Eclipse plugin?

  I'm creating an editor for Eclipse. Right now the editor fires up with the user creates a new file with the appropriate extension. My question is, how can I get a reference to the project in which the file resides? For example, say I have a workspace with 2 projects, P1 and P2. I right click P2 and create a new file, can I get a reference to P2 from this somehow? Ultimately I need to reference the AST or Java Model of the project but even a String identifying the project would work.

• should I include VB macros in source control with my project?

  For a C# project, I make use of several Visual Basic macros in Visual Studio. I was just considering that these would be of use to other developers that work on the C# project. The macros so far include removing trailing whitespace on save, organizing using directives and removing unnecessary ones, and an override for Ctrl-M Ctrl-O that expands regions. Would it be reasonable for me to include this macro code with my C# project in Subversion? I don't know if it's even possible for macros to be made available/work in Visual Studio just because you open a particular Solution file, and that might be too invasive since some of the macros override existing VS behavior.

• In a Maven project, what are reasons for either a nested or a flat directory layout?

  As my Maven project grows, I'm trying to stay on top of the project structure. So far, I have a nested directory layout with 2-3 levels, where there's a POM on each level with module entries corresponding to the directories at that level. POM inheritance (parent property) does not necessarily follow this, and is not relevant for the purpose of this question. Now, while the nested structure seems pretty natural to Maven, and it's nice and clean as long as you are on one particular level, I'm starting to get confused by what I look at in my IDE (Eclipse and IntelliJ IDEA). I had a look at the Apache Felix sources, and they have a pretty complex project in what seems to be a flat directory structure, so I'm wondering if this would be a better way to go. What are some pros and cons for either approach that you have experienced in practice? Note that this question (which I found meanwhile) seems to be very similar. I'll leave it to the community to decide whether this should be closed as a duplicate.

• "SQL Server does not exist or access denied." upon VB.Net Deployment

  Have built a small VB.Net app in VS2010. The connection string to the SQL Server is as follows: <connectionStrings> <add name="IWSR_DataDownloadWizard.My.MySettings.sqlConnection" connectionString="Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Data Source=SQLServer;Integrated Security=SSPI;Initial Catalog=IWSROL" providerName="System.Data.OleDb" /> </connectionStrings> Within the VS2010 environment AND on my machine, the connection works perfectly, however when I deploy to clients I get an error message of: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. I've tried to search the net for solutions, have seen a few instances of people saying to NOT use the Server Name but the IP Address instead (this doesn't work) and some saying to remove the "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1", again this doesn't work. Can anyone suggest a solution please? Further information: Development System is Windows7 using VS2010 Deployment systems are a combination of Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows 7 SQL Server is SQL2000 (soon to be SQL2005). TIA

• Can I safely move my project to .NET 4.0?

  I've migrated my project to VS2010 but have not yet targeted .NET 4.0. It's currently targeting 3.5 SP1 (and CLR 2). The project relies on several third party components -- mostly open source -- that were presumably built against the 2.0 CLR. Can I simply retarget my project to the 4.0 runtime? Or do I have to get new versions of all the referenced assemblies on which it depends? I've read a little about the new in-process side-by-side feature of .NET 4.0, but I don't think it applies here (the example I read was about two different .NET plug ins to an office application). My situation is different. My solution directly references assemblies and I wouldn't think side-by-side applies -- unless I don't understand its purpose. TIA

  Hi, I'm working on customizing a couple of open source projects in ways that are very much personalized -- i.e., not appropriate to send the patches back to the maintainers for the public. One of them is stored in CVS, one in SVN. I use SVN for my own work. The CVS project is fine. I check the tree in to my svn repository, including the CVS directories. I can commit all my changes, and still do a cvs update to stay up to date with bug fixes/features of the public project. How should I work on the svn project? Is there a 'best practice' or known procedure for this kind of scenario?

  I have VSS 6.0. I have branched my project so that I can do parallel development. I have 100s of files in folder/subfolders. I have changed some 10-20 files in multiple folders in ver 2 branch. Now I want to merge changes done in ver 2 to ver 1 branch. When I select the project merge branches option is not enabled. neither is it enabled when I select multiple files inside a folder. It's only enabled when one file is selected. Can I not merge on folder / multiple files in VSS 6.0. My thinking was when I do merge on project, VSS would pop up file names whenever there's a conflict (i.e files that are changed)

  I have a dll which is based on .net 3.5 -- it uses internally for example Linq, but the exposed API is straightforward, no fancy stuff. Since C# generics are resolved at compile time I assume that for calling party all it counts is API (all public parts). However when I try to use this dll from net2.0 project I get info, that the dll cannot be referenced because the dll or one of its dependencies requires a later version of .net framework. I can install any .net version I want on target computer (when entire app is installed), but I cannot change .net version for the project itself. So: how to solve this? When adding a C dll to this project I had no such problems, so are C# dlls self-contained or not?

  Hi, I am very new to ruby on rails. I've installed a complicated ruby on rails project via github clone and bundle install, and I was making minor changes to it until it reaches a point whereby it is not stable anymore, sass was throwing strange exceptions, so did other ruby gems. For a rails project, is there a way to clean up the project (aka, remove any "compiled or cached code") and just run again. My alternative now is to go thru github clone and bundle install again, but that means all of my modified changes have to be reapplied again. What is rails equivalent of "make clean" in Java? Is "rake clean" the answer? Do we need to run any bundle commands?

I plan to do it using Apple's agvtool, which recommends that project is not opened in XCode at the time So my questions are: 1) So far I know that I need to make an executable script from .git/hooks/pre-commit.sample.   I have a fully working Setup project within Visual Studio 2008 that takes inputs from a UI and passes them via a Custom Action to the output - this works perfectly. Now I have to change this so that the UI is still in a setup project but that the output is within a merge module. The current Custom Action Data looks much like the following with EditHostUrl coming from a UI dialog editbox. /HostUrl="[EditHostUrl]" I now need to pass this value to the merge module and then from there use it as an input for the custom action data to the project output but there does not seem to be any documentation on how to achieve this. To be clear Wix/InstallShield etc... are not currently options. I would also rather not embed the UI within the merge module (for reasons of separation and also it's not supported out of the box with visual studio).

• Click once Deployment suddenly does not work. Displays windows login?

  Hello All, I am facing a peculiar issue. We use click once deployment for our windows application. It was working fine till last week. I made some changes to the application (just code nothing changed in properties) and suddenly I cannot publish anymore. When we give publish now it displays windows authentication dialog and when we provide the credentials nothing happens. It tries to connect to remote server (local LAN) and shows the dialog again. Our web service will be bridging between mobile phones and various SOAP services made in .NET, Apache Axis 1 and 2, which rely on standards to transfer files such as MTOM and DIME. I am looking for an 'architecture' trick, such as develop the Axis 1 calls in a separate project and compile as a jar, to then pass it into the Axis 2 project.... Hmmm. Anything rather than having to download the source code for Axis 1 & 2 and compile them using the same xml libraries, etc. "It can't be done" is an acceptable answer. Thanks!

  I have a web application project made in Visual Studio 2008. Well, I added a jquery folder and added it to source control and other such things. I forgot to add it to the visual studio project though. How do I add the existing folder now? I've tried just creating a new folder and naming it jquery but it gave me a cryptic error "the directory is already on the disk ... if you want to see this directory then check the Show All Files option in the project file" Yet I looked and saw no such option. Is the only way around this to rename jquery to jquery2 and then create a new folder via visual studio named jquery and copy all my files into it?

• Whats the difference between a C++ and a Cocoa Project in Xcode?

  I need to work with TagLib for my project. I've created a framework (and I tried using it as a lib) but the compiler cannot find #include < strings on compiling (No such file or Directory). I've created a test C++ project and it #includes < strings just fine. I've looked at the project settings and I cannot find a difference between them. But the standard cocoa projects obviously so not have the search path set to include C++ libraries (Or am I completely getting it wrong?).
