• Add Custom Launcher in 11.10

  I started by searching guides. I found this guide but neither of the main methods works anymore in 11.10. The first solution, I have created the desktop file, however the file location given as .gconf-> desktop-> unity-> launcher -> favourites no longer exists. I can get to /home/sayth/.gconf/desktop but there is no longer a unity folder. The second solution described right-clicking the desktop and creating a launcher. Right-clicking the desktop no longer produces a "create a launcher" option. I manually installed geany 0.21 as the one in the repo's is outdated. It's installed and working correctly, and is executing from /usr/local/bin/geany. How can I add it to the launcher?

• Black screen after installing ubuntu 11.10 on new pc

  Could anyone troubleshoot me please; After installing ubuntu on my fresh desktop, the ubuntu loading screen shortly appears and then I get a black screen and cannot access the login screen. When booting in failsafe modus, i get a message that ubuntu failed to load failsafe video drivers. I have a radeon 6850 video card and am able to start ubuntu live session. So I guess it loads the wrong drivers upon booting from hd. I remember a file in which you could change which drivers it should load, but forgot the exact location. Could this solve my problem (or another solution)

  When users enter my website example.com, their "preferred" language is detected and they are redirected (using a 301 Moved Permanently redirection) to example.com/en/ (for english), example.com/it/ (for italian), etc. It works perfectly, but when I analized my website with the Google Page Speed tool it gave me the following advice. Many pages, especially mobile pages, redirect users to a different URL, for instance from www.example.com to m.example.com. Making this redirect cacheable by the user's browser can speed up page load times for repeat visitors to a site. And later it says We recommend using a 302 redirect with a cache lifetime of one day. The redirect should include a Vary: User-Agent header as well as a Cache-Control: private header. So my questions are, how can I do a "cacheable" redirection in PHP?   what i want to do: offer my clients the possibility to display their store as a small graphic (like google maps). just a small png with the location of the store. only the specific client is able to see this images and he pays for this area (not only for that :) ). So i'm looking for a api or whatever else to geocode(?) the adress and render a small (280*160px) image. google offers a premium licence (not cheap) ms bing openstreetmap - i'm not able to understand the 10^10 licences ;( any ideas?

• Error opening .wmv file

  I tried to open a .wmv file in Thunderbird. I was asked to download files in order to have it accessible. At the end of the installation An error occurred - Location not found. error message displayed with just the OK button available. Now when I press the Play button just the error message displays so I am not sure which packages need to be installed/uninstalled. I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 (32-bit) with open-jdk-7. Error was generated when installing: GStreamer ffmpeg video plugin It seemed that it took a while to have the process completing all steps of the download / install before the error message displayed.

• What are the files pushed to MDS?

  All files which are under AIAComponents will move to MDS. This contains EnterpriseObjectLibrary, EnterpriseBusinessServiceLibrary, ApplicationObjectLibrary, ApplicationBusinessServiceLibrary, B2BObjectLibrary, ExtensionServiceLibrary, and UtilityArtifacts. Also there are some common transformation (.xsl) files, which are kept under Transformations folder, moved to MDS. AIAConfigurationProperties.xml file will be there in MDS. Every cross reference (.xref) object will also be there. Every Domain value Map (.dvm) will also be there. Common fault policy, which by default included in composite during composite generation, if a user does not choose to customize fault policy. All these files are location under AIAMetaData directory and then placed in their respective folders. We are planning to put Error handling and BSR systems related data also to MDS.

  Some months ago I bought 4 Memory modules of 4GB DDR3 1600 KINGSTON HYPERX. The official Kingston manual says: *This module has been tested to run at DDR3-1600 at a low latency timing of 9-9-9-27 at 1.65V.The SPD is programmed to JEDEC standard latency DDR3-1333 timing of 9-9-9. I cannot find which is the real speed of my memory modules. So far I've considered: Having a separate mobile site (m.example.com) with rel="canonical" links to the regular site. Putting both the mobile site and full site on one URL (example.com), and doing user agent sniffing. Another opinion: Spencer: "If you have a mobile site at a separate location or URL, you should 301 redirect each and every mobile page to its corresponding page on your main website. • HLSL Pixel Shader that does palette swap

  I have implemented a simple pixel shader which can replace a particular colour in a sprite with another colour. It looks something like this: sampler input : register(s0); float4 PixelShaderFunction(float2 coords: TEXCOORD0) : COLOR0 { float4 colour = tex2D(input, coords); if(colour.r == sourceColours[0].r && colour.g == sourceColours[0].g && colour.b == sourceColours[0].b) return targetColours[0]; return colour; } What I would like to do is have the function take in 2 textures, a default table, and a lookup table (both same dimensions). Grab the current pixel, and find the location XY (coords) of the matching RGB in the default table, and then substitute it with the colour found in the lookup table at XY. I have figured how to pass the Textures from C# into the function, but I am not sure how to find the coords in the default table by matching the colour. Could someone kindly assist? • What is Atomicity?

  I'm really struggling to find a concrete, easy to grasp, explanation of Atomicity. My understanding thus far is that to ensure an operation is atomic you wrap the critical code in a locker. But that's about as much as I actually understand. Definitions such as the one below make no sense to me at all. An operation during which a processor can simultaneously read a location and write it in the same bus operation. This prevents any other processor or I/O device from writing or reading memory until the operation is complete. Atomic implies indivisibility and irreducibility, so an atomic operation must be performed entirely or not performed at all. What does the last sentence mean? Is the term indivisibility relating to mathematics or something else? Sometimes the jargon with these topics confuse more than they teach.

• Maximum file size for iFrame in IE7

  I've got a "super secure" javascript downloader* that I wrote, and it usually works alright. But I noticed, while trying to download a 90 meg file with it on a client's machine that on IE7, it's getting hung up about 1/3rd of the way through. I've never tried to send a file that large through the iFrame and it works fine in other browsers. Is there a size restriction on files that IE7 can read in an iFrame? * It's really just a PHP line that sets header("location: http://someplace/downloadbigthing.exe"); after it does some logging and verification.

Obviously the code is different... I'd like to know if it is a good solution to create multiple SEO indexing based on cities? I'm also using GeoLocation and I do same using the returned values from it. • Is there any negative impact with similar page titles and descriptions on similar sites?

  Currently we have Canadian versions of some websites. We are going to create some American versions, which essentially have everything the same, except the search results are geo-specific to the USA. The format for the results page title and descriptions will remain the same, ie {0} in {1} | Find more {0} etc etc etc... {1}. The search term will most-likely be the same between both sites. Will the relative similarity in the page titles and descriptions between the CDN and USA sites have any negative SEO impact, where the geo location would be the most significant difference?

• rts libgdx design?

  I am attempting to create a simple rts multi-player strategy game using libgdx. I am stumped at the moment. I want the underlying game world to run at all times and be aware of where all items are on the map.. so if player A logs in and moves unit to some location on the grid and logs off, that unit info is still there and can be accessed again by player A when they log back on to move somewhere else (if it didnt get attacked during the playerA was logged off). How can i do this? Do i create a main game world on the server and when players connect make client just sequentially request whats in each visible tile? Is there an easier way to get this done? Or go SQL route? Whats better?
