• Internet Explorer SPAN style issue when Input button is removed

  Internet Explorer does not remove the extra padding from my button when the input button is missing. The input button will sometimes be missing, because on a dynamic page the button will sometimes be hidden. See my example using Internet Explorer when viewing my demo link: http://media.apus.edu/it/evan-testing/form.htm I tested this in Firefox, Safari, Chrome, etc. and all browsers have my style completely removed if the form button is missing. edit It was asked what internet explorer version does this happen in and it occurs in ie7. It works just fine in IE8. Any hacks for this for IE7 then?

• DNSCurve vs DNSSEC

  Can someone informed, please give a lengthy reply about the differences and advantages/disadvantages of both approaches? I am not a DNS expert, not a programmer. I have a decent basic understanding of DNS, and enough knowledge to understand how things like the kaminsky bug work. From what I understand, DNSCurve has stronger encryption, is far simpler to setup, and an altogether better solution. DNSSEC is needlessly complicated and uses breakable encryption, however it provides end to end security, something DNSCurve does not. However, many of the articles I have read have seemed to indicate that end to end security is of little use or makes no difference. So which is true? Which is the better solution, or what are the disadvantages/advantages of each? edit: I would appreciate if someone could explain what is gained by encrypting the message contents, when the goal is authentication rather than confidentiality.   On a Windows Server 2012 box, I'm using PS to create a new IIS User (for automated deployments using MSDeploy). The command itself appears to work fine -- the user is created -- but as soon as I exit my PowerShell session (typing exit or just closing the command window), a dialog is displayed stating "powershell has stopped working", with the following details: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: PowerShell NameOfExe: powershell.exe FileVersionOfSystemManagementAutomation: 6.2.9200.16628 InnermostExceptionType: Runtime.InteropServices.InvalidComObject OutermostExceptionType: Runtime.InteropServices.InvalidComObject DeepestPowerShellFrame: unknown DeepestFrame: System.StubHelpers.StubHelpers.GetCOMIPFromRCW ThreadName: unknown OS Version: 6.2.9200.2.0.0.400.8 Locale ID: 1033 The PS commands in question are: [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.Web.Management") [Microsoft.Web.Management.Server.ManagementAuthentication]::CreateUser("Foo", "Bar") Why is this happening and how can I avoid it? • Tips on implementing a custom UITextView interface on the iPhone?

  I am trying to implement a control to edit text that will display the text in multiple colors. None of the solutions I have attempted yet have been good enough. UITextView cannot accomplish this. All of the text must be the same color. Using CoreGraphics to draw the text does not allow the text to be selected. Using a UIWebView, DIV and PRE tags cannot be set to contentEditable on Mobile Safari. Currently playing with using an off-screen TEXTAREA and an on-screen DIV to show the rendered text. This works pretty well, except supporting all of these at the same time seems impossible: click-to-type, click-to-move-cursor, click-and-hold-select/copy/paste. Anyone have any tips on this predicament? I've been trying to find any preexisting library out there that will accomplish this in a good way, to no luck. I'm open to any ideas!

• Can I use a MIME type declaration to get an HTML file to open in MS Word?

• jQuery scrollTop not working in chrome but working in Firefox

  I have used a scrollTop function in jquery for navigating to top. But strangely 'The smooth animated scroll' stopped working in safari and chrome(scrolling without smooth animation) after I made some changes. But it is working smoothly in Firefox. • Testdisk won’t list files for an ext4 partition inside a LVM inside a LUKS partition

  I have accidentally deleted a file that I want to recover. The partition is an ext4 partition inside an LVM partition that is encrypted with dm-crypt/LUKS. The encrypted LUKS partition is: /dev/sda2 which contains a physical volume, with a single volume group, mapped to: /dev/mapper/system And the logical volume, the ext4 partition is mapped to: /dev/mapper/system-home A # testdisk /dev/mapper/system-home will notice it as an ext4 partition but tells me that the partition seems damaged when I try to list the files. If I # testdisk /dev/mapper/system it will detect all the partitions, but the same happens if I try to list their files. Am I doing something wrong or is it a known bug? I have searched but haven’t found any clue.

  I have been searching for a way to fix this problem for a while now. It seems something could be wrong on the javascript, or maybe it has something to do with the positioning. This page http://www.medspilates.cl/ works fine on FF, on Chrome, on Safari and on IE8, but on ie7 it doesnt, the body gets displaced to the right and the main content disappears, it's also happening on ie6 (it didnt but now it does). • Drag/Drop image url in IE

  I have a requirement in our web app. to allow users to drag an image from an external site and drop it in a text editor they have open in our app. This is, as you'd expect, to let them embed the image in the document (its a rich text editor). In IE 8 this functionality appears to be broken. If I drag/drop, IE uses a relative URL for the 'src' tag on the image - which means I cannot then download the file and store it since I dont know the full address (eg: '../../imgs/myImage.png') Safari and Firefox do not do this; they provides the fully-qualified address (eg: www.mysite.com/imgs/myImage.png). Is this a bug in IE or just WebKit/Mozilla going the extra mile?

  I'm trying to pipe some data from a Bash pipe into a Bash variable using the read command, like this: $ echo "Alexander the Grape" | read quot $ echo $quot $ But quot is empty. Some Googling revealed that this is not a bug; it's an intended feature of Bash. (Section E5 in the FAQ.) But when I tried the same thing in zsh, it worked. (Ditto for ksh.) Is there any way to make this work in Bash? I really don't want to have to type: $ quot=$(echo "Alexander the Grape") Especially for long commands.

• Why does Ubuntu 11.10 hang frequenty?

  I've been using Ubuntu from a long time and recently I have shifted to its newest version 11.10. Its interface is nice but my touch-pad hangs frequently in short intervals of time. When that happens, no key or key combination works. The only option is to restart or logout my laptop. I am using a Dell Inspiron N4010. I have tried a lot to solve this problem but haven't found any satisfactory help till now. Most of my friends who are using Ubuntu 11.10 reported the same to me, seems like it's a bug. How can I get out of this problem?

  here is the problem! I have a UIWebView in my programs that loads a php page. The problem is that if the page has a lot of lines i cannot see them. I can "scroll" the UIWebView but when I leave the finger from the screen the page comes back to the original state. I don't want to scale pages to fit the view cause if I do that the letters become too small. I would like to find a way to scroll pages how it is possible in Safari.   On a Windows machine, clicking and holding a keyboard key results in the key being types multiple times. For example, if I click and hold 'q' for a few seconds, I end up with the following: qqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq Similarly, I can click and hold the Backspace key to delete multiple characters. On a Mac, it seems, clicking and holding a key for several seconds results in the key being types only once. To type it repeatedly, it is necessary to psychically click it multiple times. I'm unclear about whether that is a bug or a supposed-feature, but I am interested in replicating this functionality on a Mac. Any ideas? Thanks!

• Linked vSphere servers preventing cloning?

  I've currently got a pair of vSphere5 standard servers (physical, not VAs) managing about a hundred ESX 4.1 and 5 hosts in two different physical and logical datacenters. With our last purchase, we bought another vSphere license for the new vS server. I unmanaged all the ESX servers in one datacenter and added them to new vSphere server. Our previous single-vS-server layout used to be: -vSphere1 --Datacenter1 (where the physical ESX host was located) ---Folder ----ESX server1 --Datacenter2 ---Folder ----ESX server2 Now it looks like -vSphere1 --Datacenter1 ---Folder ----ESX server1 -vSphere2 (new vSphere server) --Datacenter2 ---Folder ----ESX server2 ESX server2 was removed from vSphere1's inventory and added to vSphere2's, so it is now managed by vSphere2. This is nice and all, as no vSphere <-- ESX management traffic leaves the physical datacenter, except for one huge oversight: when I go to clone a VM, the opposite vSphere server (and thus other datacenter) does not show up in the list on the first page of the wizard. Is this a bug, a license limitation, or is it just simply not possible to clone a VM from an ESX box managed by one vS server to another ESX box managed by a /different/ vS server?

• BSD Sockets don't behave in a iPhone 3G environment

  I noticed that many times while developing for an iPhone 3G, BSD socket functions will simply fail. I also noticed at the time, the 3G antenna wasn't even ON, nor was there WIFI Access to back up the network call (So it seems ridiculous that it doesn't turn on to support the network request).. This information was verified with an app from Apple in the SDK called Connectivity Test, or something of the sort. Basically if you load Safari or something, then quickly load up the App it would be fine.. Of course that's not ideal. Apparently, to apple, gethostbyname() or something of the sort is by no means a reason to turn on the Antenna. I contacted Apple about this, and they said that the BSD functions do not switch the Antenna on, but calling all of the Objective-C CFNetwork functions do. I want portable code, so is there a way to keep my existing BSD setup? I really dislike coding in Objective-C, so if anyone knows a work around, that would be awesome.

  Guys, I have a question mainly related to the Iphone web browser but I am hoping the same solution would work on other browsers that are webkit based. I have a application (Iphone + Android) that registers a handler for custom URI (appuri://) on the Phone. I am able to launch the application by making a link to "appuri://act/launch" from my web pages. This works only if my application is installed on the device. If the device does not have the app installed then a message comes up "Safari was not able to open ....". What I want to do is detect if the URI Scheme is supported from the browser and then prompt my own message saying "please download the app ..blah blah blah" if the handler for the URI scheme is not found. Is there a way I can detect or find the list of URL Scheme handlers on the Phone from the Web Browser ?

• Error after installing mysqlnd_ms

  I am working on Amazon EC2 using the Amazon Linux AMI which is based on CentOS. I have installed php54 and php54-mysqlnd. I then do a "sudo pecl install myslqnd_ms" This installs fine. I add the extension into the php.ini file. Then I start httpd, and when I do in the error log I see: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib64/php/modules/mysqlnd_ms.so' - /usr/lib64/php/modules/mysqlnd_ms.so: undefined symbol: mysqlnd_globals in Unknown on line 0 Googling this lead me to: https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=62276&edit=1 and http://forums.famillecollet.com/viewtopic.php?id=242 neither of which helped me much. I am trying to stick to stock pre built binaries from the main YUM repo if possible. What would be the best solution here? Thanks in advance

  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to edit an link in a contentEditable div? It would be ideal once the link is either clicked with mouse, or the cursor hits the link, that the a small prompt would pop up and allow the user to change the href property of the link. The prompt isn't the issue, but how is it possible to detect the link has been either clicked or that the cursor has arrived at the link? onfocus doesn't seem to work in a contentEditable div on Firefox & Safari. • Problem restarting my Ubuntu system

  Whenever I try to restart my Ubuntu either from the command line by typing reboot or in GNOME the computer goes from X to console, starts the shutdown process and then a message saying "[ some number ] Starting new kernel" appears on the screen and the computer goes back to X login screen. I suspect this must have something to do with nvidia drivers, because it seemed to have appeared around the time I bought a new graphic card. Also, when I reboot the second time I see weird graphical artifacts on the screen. When I boot from ubuntu live cd I can reboot just fine. I used jaunty, recently I switched to karmic with no change. This bug is very annoying, because I have to hard reset my computer in order to reboot. Also not good for the filesystems, I suspect. Can you suggest a way to debug the cause or if not at least the easiest way to go about reinstalling ubuntu without losing customizations/settings/data?

While it's running smooth on FF, Safari and Chrome, IE blocks the script execution : There is nothing particularly more dangerous on this code than, let's say, on Netvibes. Why is even talking about activeX ? I'm using JS. And how can I prevent that ? I don't want my user to click on "I allow this website" to work.
