  I didn't feel this rule before, but it seems that a binary tree or any tree (each node can have many children but children cannot point back to any parent), then this data structure can be represented as 1 table in a database, with each row having an ID for itself and a parentID that points back to the parent node. That is in fact the classical Employee - Manager diagram: one boss can have many people under him... and each person under him can have n people under him, etc. This is a tree structure and is represented in database books as a common example as a single table Employee.

• Automated URL checking from a MySQL table

  Okay, I have a list of URLs in a MySQL table. I want the script to automatically check each link in the table for 404, and afterward I want it to store whether the URL was 404'd or not, as well as store a time for last checked. Is this even possible to do automatically, even if no one runs the script? ie, no one visits the page for a few days, but even with no one visiting the page, it automatically ran the test. If its possible, how could I go about making a button to do this?

  Guys, I would love to here your ideas on this. I am creating a table which will store weekly shift hours for employees. for example: Jon works 9:00am tp 9:00pm Monday , 10:00 AM to 5:00PM on Tuseday etc.... How should i go on designing this table. I thought of 2 options. • Ruby on Rails updating join table records

  Hey, I have two models Users and Roles. I have setup a many to many relationship between the two models and I have a joint table called roles_users. I have a form on a page with a list of roles which the user checks a checkbox and it posts to the controller which then updates the roles_users table. At the moment in my update method I am doing this because I am not sure of a better way: role_ids = params[:role_ids] user.roles.clear role_ids.each do |role| user.roles << Role.find(role) end unless role_ids.nil? So I am clearing all the entries out then looping threw all the role ids sent from the form via post, I also noticed that if all the checkboxes are checked and the form posted it keeps adding duplicate records, could anyone give some advice on a more efficent way of doing this?

  Hi, I am using data grid view to display items as excel spread sheet in VB.NET. I got a table named CostTypes with column names [CostTypeID, CostType] and values [1,External] and [2,Internal] (These are constant but more values can be added to table). I want to create columns with names of the values[External , Internal] in DataGridView. If I use databiding directly I get columns [CostTypeID,CostType] which is not what I am looking for. If some one could explain how to create columns at runtime in datagridview or how to retrieve data from data base using LINQ so that [External , Internal] turn out to be columns that would be great.   Hello A client of mine has had an HD crash an a SQL DB got corrupt : They did not make backups so they have a big problem. When I tried (an ultimate measure) to DBCC-repair I got the following message. Can anybody help me with this ? Server: Msg 8966, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Could not read and latch page (1:872) with latch type SH. sysindexes failed. Server: Msg 8944, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Table error: Object ID 2, index ID 0, page (1:872), row 11. Test (columnOffsets->IsComplex (varColumnNumber) && (ColumnId == COLID_HYDRA_TEXTPTR || ColumnId == COLID_INROW_ROOT || ColumnId == COLID_BACKPTR)) failed. Values are 2 and 5. The repair level on the DBCC statement caused this repair to be bypassed. CHECKTABLE found 0 allocation errors and 1 consistency errors in table 'sysindexes' (object ID 2). DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator.

  I am storing the response to various rpc calls in a mysql table with the following fields: Table: rpc_responses timestamp (date) method (varchar) id (varchar) response (mediumtext) PRIMARY KEY(timestamp,method,id) What is the best method of selecting the most recent responses for all existing combinations of method and id? For each date there can only be one response for a given method/id. Not all call combinations are necessarily present for a given date. My question was how can I reload the tableView when the purchasing was completed/(or when new item was added on my list). The response of the storekit takes time to complete. Are there anyways to tell the app that the purchasing was completed and new item was added on my list so that I can reload my tableView. At this time I reloading my table view by adding [myTableView reloadData] in viewWillAppear method. But what if the user was already viewing the tableView, I can't reload the tableView because the viewWillAppear had passed. thanks...

  I've got a data model that has two tables with a join table for a many to many relationship & creating an OData service to expose the data for CRUD ops in a Silverlight app. What I'd like to do is abstract the join table from the service. I'm not sure if the best way to do this would be in the model (using EF in .NET3.5SP1) or if I should do it with a custom service operation. If I do it in the EF model (not sure how I'd do this), then the OOTB WCF Data Service stuff would make it easy to say [..]/Courses(1)/Modules ... otherwise I'd have to create a custom operation to do this. Is it possible to do this in the EF model and if so, how does that work?

  Hi I was trying to use the pager plugin that comes with the tablesorter plugin but I can't get it to work as you can see from my previous post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2836680/need-help-with-jquery-tablesorter-pager-plugin. I given up on this plugin as no one can seem to come up with a solution how to make it work and I kinda need to get this place soon. So now I am looking for a new one but it must have the following features. Work on tables Work on tables that have the tablesorter 2.0 plugin on it( so I don't want a pager plugin that comes with its own table sorter since I don't want to change that. It should be a standalone pager plugin). Be able to add rows dynamically to the table and some how update the pager so this row now becomes part of the pager. Thanks

  Given the remote server 'Production' (currently accessible via an IP) and the local database 'Development', how can I run an INSERT into 'Development' from 'Production' using T-SQL? I'm using MS SQL 2005 and the table structures are a lot different between the two databases hence the need for me to manually write some migration scripts. UPDATE: T-SQL really isn't my bag.   Here is my situation. I have model called Account. An account can have one or more contracts. The problem is that i'm dealing with a legacy application and each account's contracts are stored in a different database. Example: Account 1's contract are in account1_db.contracts. Account 2's contract are in account2_db.contracts. The database name is a field stored in accounts table. How can i make rails association work with this? This is a legacy PHP application and i simply can't change it to store everything in one table. I need to make it work somehow.   What's the cleanest way to constrain a SQL table to allow it to have no more than one row? This related question discusses why such a table might exist, but not how the constraint should be implemented. So far I have only found hacks involving a unique key column that is constrained to have a specific value, e.g. ALWAYS_0 TINYINT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY DEFAULT (0) CONSTRAINT CHECK_ALWAYS_0 CHECK (ALWAYS_0 = 0). I am guessing there is probably a cleaner way to do it. The ideal solution would be portable SQL, but a solution specific to MS SQL Server or postgres would also be useful
