  • Howto change current user password?

    ...when logged into a Server via remote Desktop? I see no way to Access Windows security. In "old" 2008 R2 there was a "Windows Security" entry in the start menu when coming via rdp. In the new Metro Start Menu, the username context menu allows me to lock the Computer or log out - but not Change the Password. Yes, I can go through user Management, but this is not something I want People to do ;)

    I'm curently hosting my clients web-sites on some vps servers. What I would like to know, how many visitors can use the multiple web sites concurrently, before I need to migrate each of the sites to their seperate servers? So in laymans terms, how much RAM does a web-page user take on average? For example, how many concurrent visitors can I have on my server, running an Apache server, with 512mb RAM?

    Trying to start a unicorn daemon as a non-root user but failing hard. Unicorn gives the the following error: directory for pid=/var/run/sinatra_test/sinatra_test.pid not writable So I made the following: sudo mkdir /var/run/sinatra_test sudo chown ruby:www-data /var/run/sinatra_test sudo chmod g+w /var/run/sinatra_test ls -ld /var/run/sinatra_test returns: drwxrwxr-x 2 ruby www-data 60 Oct 27 09:55 /var/run/sinatra_test What am I missing? Still getting Permission denied errors.

Background The user can configure Windows to use their preferred font size, e.g.: 8pt 9pt 12pt and their preferred font face, e.g.: MS Sans Serif Microsoft Sans Serif Tahoma Segoe UI Calibri but the Windows Ribbon Framework by default uses a font that is not the user's preference. Additionally, the user could have specified their font preference in my application, which i want the Ribbon hosted in my application to honor.

  • Usability: Save changes using "Apply" button or after every single change?

    I am interested in hearing opinions and experiences of fellow developers on topic of designing user interface, usability AND maintainability-wise. Common approach is to allow users to tweak options and after form gets "dirty", enable "Apply" button, and user has possibility to back out by pressing cancel. This is most common approach on Windows platform (I believe MS usability guidelines say to do so as well). Another way is to apply changes after every single change has been made to options. Example, user checks some checkbox, and change is applied. User changes value of some text box, and change is applied after box looses focus, etc. You get the point. This approach is most common on Mac OSX. Regardless of my personal opinion (which is that Apple is better at usability, but software I usually write targets Windows users), what do you people think?

    On a server running Debian Wheezy and Samba ver 3 with a tdb backend, how do I restrict a single user from changing the password? This account is one of 2 generic accounts, one for students and one for Teachers on Call (TOC). The users are created, but I'm not deploying the server yet. When looking through Google, I came across setting the maximum password age, but not setting the minumum password age (I'd be happy with a 5 year password...)

  • OSX Server - How to set environment variable on network user login

    I have a group of users on my server, "Developers", and I would like an environment variable to be set for them whenever they login. More specifically, when anyone in this group logs in, I would like the equivalent of: setenv ANDROID_SDK_HOME /Developers/Android/User to be set at login. I can do this with a login script if necessary, but what I'm asking is: is it possible to set this type of thing in Profile Manager, Workgroup Manager, Directory Utility, etc?     I am building a system with a User model (authenticated using AuthLogic) and three user types in three models: one of these models is Employer. Each of these three models has_many :users, :as = :authenticable. I start by having a new visitor to the site create their own 'User' record with username, password, which user type they are, etc. Upon creation, the user is sent to the 'new' action for one of the three models. So, if they tell us they are an employer, we redirect_to :controller = "employers, :action = "new". Question: When the employer has submitted, I want to set the current_user.user_type_id equal to the employer ID. Averell: you mentioned encapsulating... something in the model using a 'setter' method.     I have a scenario where a user is emailing another user in an HTML based web app. For the To: field, the user may select one of a pre-defined list of emails OR enter their own ignoring the pre-defined options. What would be the best way of doing this from a UI point of view? I've looked at editable select boxes using jQuery but none seem to let you enter your own option. Is there some other UI mechanism that would work here?

  • Sendmail yields "user unkown" errors even after (wrongly) setting up a catch-all account

    I was trying to follow the instructions found here to set up a catch-all account, but still I get the following message for mails sent to non-existent users: The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.1.1 [email protected]... User unknown (state 14). Everything else works, though... /etc/mail/local-host-names and /etc/mail/virtusertable were set up as instructed. Any advice? Thanks!

    For administrative purposes, I sometimes need to log in as another user to diagnose a problem with their account. I'd like to be able to do this without having to change their password so I don't have to keep bothering them. Under Unix, I can just save the encrypted password from the passwd file, change the password, then edit the old encrypted password back into the passwd file. Is there a way of doing something similar in AD?

  • InputManager ignores cut/copy/paste when initiated from menu

    I'm using the InputManager to check if changes to controls are done by user or code. This works fine, except when user uses the context menu for cut/copy/paste. If the user do ctrl+v in a textbox, InputManager correctly notices it. However, if the paste is done from the context menu of the textbox, the InputManager never fires the PreNotifyInput or PostNotifyInput events. Anyone knows why? Or how to detect that these user actions? Below is a working sample. The lower textblock never gets updated when user uses the cut/copy/paste menu in the above textbox since PreNotifyInput never fires.   • I have three different websites and I want to create a single entry point for all of them but how?

    Hi all, We are creating three different websites using asp.net but for the user part we want to implement an approach so that each user only need to create an account in any of these three sites but use the same account in other websites too. here is what I've suggested : create a useracount.website.com server then put the sql server there and implement core user account library there such as (creating/editing/etc...) whenever a visitor needs to have an account or needs to login into out sites then we will redirect him to the useracount.website.com address and he/she should login from that point. and for the maintaining the user's states I've suggested to using cookies. and all of these scenarios should be implemented by asp.net and sql. please let me know with best approach cause I feel mine is not that good specially the cookie part. cheers.
