  • Merging list problem

    Sorry about the bad heading, but the question was not easy to compress into one sentence... I have two lists of contigs (list1 and list2). They contain mostly unique contigs, but with some overlap. I want to compare list1 and list2 and then create a list3 that contains all contigs in list1 minus those also present in list2. Is this possible with a simple cat/paste/grep/sort/uniq kind of batch command? Thanks!

    Hi If I have to choose between static method and creating an instance and use instance method, I will choose static methods always. but what is the detailed overhead of creating an instance? for example I saw a DAL which can be done with static classes but they choose to make it instance now in the BLL at every single call they call something like. new Customer().GetData(); how far this can be bad?     Right now I am going through MIT's introduction to Computer Science course via OpenCourseWare. As a part of this course I am learning the Python Language. I've read a lot of things about the benefits of learning C. Before I dig any deeper into Python I wonder if I will be hindered or helped by learning Python first. Do you think that I will develop any bad habits or anything like that from Python?

  • Unable to connect to SQL Database (can the password be reset)

    I have recently joined a company which has an SQL 2005 Server running a few databases. The server looks like no one has touched it in a couple of years and has this week it ran out of disk space. After a quick hard drive scan it looks like some of the databases have become a little bloated and particularly the Sharepoint_config~*~_log and WSS_Content_log.ldf have grown to about 15GB. I have been able to log into a couple of the other databases and use the shrinkfile command to free up disk space but for some reason I am unable to log into the sharepoint and Microsoft#SSEE databases (which gives me the "cannot connect to Sharepoint, a network related or instance specific error occurred..." when I try and connect) I can see that the database is running via the SQL surface configuration and I have made sure that the remote connection settings allow me to connect locally but I am still unable to log in either with windows authentication or locally. Is there any way to reset or recover the database login details so I can get in? ( I have tried logging in with all the administrative passwords I can find and after tracking down the company who installed it in the first place I found out that they have no idea what the password could have been)

This is my attempt to get it to work, but it doesn't pass in the function name. $factorial = function( $n ) use ( $factorial ) { if( $n == 1 ) return 1; return $factorial( $n - 1 ) * $n; }; print $factorial( 5 ); I'm also aware that this is a bad way to implement factorial, it's just an example.

    I'm having a lot of problems with FormsAuthentication (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2964342/problem-with-asp-net-authentication) and as as potential work around I'm thinking about storing the login in the Session? Login: Session["Auth.ClientId"] = clientId; IsAuthenticated: Session["Auth.ClientId"] != null; Logout; Session["Auth.ClientId"] == null; I'm not really using most of the bells and whistles of FormsAuthentication anyway. Is this a bad idea?

    Consider the following method: +(void) myMethod:(int)arg1 **argument2**(int)arg2 **argument3**(int) arg3; See how the first argument, unlike the 2nd and 3rd, doesn't have a description, giving it an impression of bad symmetry. Also you would expect the extra typing will provide named argument as you pass it in, but you still have to pass them in the correct order. Can anyone help me make sense of this?
