  • mounted smb share throu fstab, gets read only on added files

    I mounted my nas in ubuntu 12.10 and it works with read/write, but when I'm adding a file or directory that file gets read only permissions. My fstab mount looks like this: //192.168.0.12/share/ /media/nas cifs credentials=/home/jocke/.smbcredentials,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777 0 0 If I mount the smb share manualy through the GUI it works, but not through fstab. What I am doing wrong?

  • New RUP Patch for iSupplier Portal, Sourcing and Supplier Lifecycle Management (SLM)

    Just released - the 12.1.3 Rollup (RUP) Patch 17525552:R12.PRC_PF.B for iSupplier Portal, Sourcing and Supplier Lifecycle Management (SLM). Who should apply this patch? Anyone that is on Release 12.1.3 and is using  iSupplier Portal, Sourcing or Supplier Lifecycle Management (SLM) functionality. The following areas have had major fixes: Prospective Supplier Guided Navigation: The train-navigation is introduced for prospective supplier registration so that prospective suppliers can see all steps needed to successfully register themselves. Supplier Registration Workflow Enhancement: With this release, provided the Approval Management Engine (AME) action required notifications for supplier approval, so that all workflow related features can be enabled. Vacation rules can be set, approvals can be forwarded and more information can be requested through the notification itself.  Additionally AME parallel Approval support for Supplier Registration approvals has been added. Reinstate Supplier Request: Allow buyer to reopen/reinstate the rejected supplier. Supplier is able to access their previously rejected registration again and make changes and resubmit request. Contact Address Association: The prospective supplier is allowed to associate addresses with contacts (including Primary) during the prospective supplier registration process. Primary Contact Enhancement: The prospective supplier can be registered without creating a user account for the primary contact. Mandatory Attributes: In the negotiation requirement creation page, the lookup meaning of 'Internal' has been changed to 'Internal Optional', and a new lookup value with meaning as 'Internal Required' has been added. The values available in the 'Type' dropdown now are Display Only, Internal Optional, Internal Required, Supplier Optional and Supplier Required.  So now during supplier evaluations, internal user response can be set as mandatory by using Internal Required type during requirement creation. Notifications to Supplier:  When the supplier saves and submits their supplier registration request, then a notification with a registration status page link will be sent for further access.  When the buyer approves, rejects or returns the request, the supplier will be notified in an email with the current status. There are also 10 major enhancements included in this RUP.     I installed Zorin 6 (based on Ubuntu 12.04), because I like all the whistles it has (plymouth screen,compiz effects,installed codecs, sound themes, etc.). I miss though the modern and futuristic unity environment (launcher, dash, HUD, indicators etc.). Is there a way to switch from Zorin to Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS and keep all these effects? Or What additional software should I install in an Ubuntu clean install to add the effects Zorin has (plymouth, compiz effects, sounds, audio and video codecs etc.)

    I'm looking for a laptop and would like to avoid the whole 'is this [specific configuration of hardware] compatible with Ubuntu?' process by finding a laptop manufactured with Ubuntu in mind. I know of system76, but are there any other manufacturers making laptops built to run a standard build of Ubuntu? I'm not counting Dell, as - from my experience - their 'Ubuntu' laptops/netbooks require their build, and because of that have their own set of compatibility issues. UPDATE: And as mentioned in the comments, Dell is no longer selling systems with Ubuntu to consumers.

  • 12.04 LTS won't install from CD

    I've been trying to install 12.04 LTS onto a Dell with a PIII from CD. Booting from the CD the install gets through the "Who are you" process, begins copying files. The progress bar gets as far as the last period in "Copying files...". The box clears, and an error box comes up "The installer has encountered an unrecoverable error. A desktop session will now be run so that you may investigae the problem or try installing again." When I try to install from this desktop session, the install gets to the same point, the copying files box closes, and then just stops. The pointer is busy, the cd drive spins up occaisonally with no data transfer, no hard drive activity. When I boot from the CD and access the disk boot menu, the disk checks good, memory checks good ( I upgraded the original memory to 512 mb). I also updated the bios to the newest from Dell. This is an older L866r, but should meet the requirements.

  • Compiz Cube bindings don't seem to work

    I have been trying to get the 3D Cube to work however, despite setting a combination for various keys from S1 (VAIO/VAIOFW) to F7 to no avail. What is "Primary" and I am not going to use the "Rotate Cube" as I have a touchpad and I cannot use the Keyboard functions if I am correct?     I am a web designer/developer. Work mostly with large files 50mb+. I currently have a MyBook Live which is connected wirelessly to my MacBook Pro and Dell desktop PC running windows. Since its connected wirelessly(it doesnt have ethernet port) the files are loading slow and its hard to work staright away from my server. Now im looking for better storage/server solutions and looking at dell.com.au/servers. Im not sure which one to choose.   • Correct permissions for /var/www and wordpress

    Hello and thank you in advance! I am relatively new to ubuntu, so please excuse the newbie-ness of this question... I have set up a LAMP server (ubuntu server 11.10) and I have access via SSH and to the "it works" page from a web browser from inside my network (via ip address) and from outside using dyndns. I have a couple of projects in development with some outside developers and I want to use this server as a development server for testing and for client approvals. We have some Wordpress projects that sit in subdirectories in /var/www/wordpress1 /var/www/wordpress2, etc. I cannot access these sub directories from a browser in order to set up WP--or (I assume) to see the content on a browser. I get a 403 Forbidden error on my browser. I assume that this is a permissions problem. Can you please tell me the proper settings for the permissions to: 1) Allow the developers and me to read/write. 2) to allow WP set up and do its thing 3) Allow visitors to access the site(s) via the web. I should also mention that the subfolder are actually simlinks to folder on another internal hdd--I don't think this will make a difference, but I thought I should disclose. Since I am a newbie to ubuntu, step-by-step directions are greatly appreciated!   • grub not detecting windows 8

    I have a dell inspiron 5520. I had installed windows 8 and have ubuntu 12.04 installed in a different partition. I installed grub but it was not showing windows 8. So i added menuentry "Windows 8" { set root = "(hd0,4)" chainloader +1 } in /etc/grub.d/40_custom. Now i see windows 8 option but it says "error-invalid selection" when i select it. please help.   • Unable to create an Ubuntu 12.10 USB stick on OS X

    I'm following the instructions to create a bootable Ubuntu 12.10 USB stick on OS X found here. I can do step 3 and hdiutil appears to work fine, but when I go to mount the resulting ubuntu.img file I get the same "no mountable file systems" error that I get when I try and open the ubuntu.iso file. No correctly sized volumes show up in diskutil list either. Any ideas? Using the most recent ubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64.iso on Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
