  • How do I check if selected value of the DropDown List is not selected in C#?

    - by Sahat
This code will display the selected value from the drop down list. E.g. if I sellect Item 1 I will get the following output: You have selected Item 1. Label1.Text = "You have selected " + DropDownList1.SelectedValue + "<br />"; But if I don't select anything and click on Submit button, I will get: You have selected What would I need to make it display "You have not selected anything. Please select at least 1 item."

  • Bug with asp.net mvc2, collection and ValidationMessageFor ?

    - by Rafael Mueller
    I'm with a really weird bug with asp.net mvc2 (rtm) and ValidationMessageFor. The example below throws a System.Collections.Generic.KeyNotFoundException on Response.Write(Html.ValidationMessageFor(n = n[index].Name)); Any ideas why thats happening? I'm accessing the same dictionary twice before, but it only throws the error on ValidationMessageFor, any thoughts? Here's the code. public class Parent { public IList<Child> Childrens { get; set; } [Required] public string Name { get; set; } } public class Child { [Required] public string Name { get; set; } } The controller public class ParentController : Controller { public ActionResult Create() { var parent = new Parent { Name = "Parent" }; parent.Childrens = new List<Child> { new Child(), new Child(), new Child() }; return View(parent); } } The view (Create.aspx) <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<Parent>" %> <%@ Import Namespace="BugAspNetMVC" %> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <%Html.EnableClientValidation(); %> <% using (Html.BeginForm()) {%> <%=Html.LabelFor(p => p.Name)%> <%=Html.TextBoxFor(p => p.Name)%> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(p => p.Name)%> <%Html.RenderPartial("Childrens", Model.Childrens); %> <%} %> </asp:Content> And the partial view (Childrens.ascx) <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<IList<Child>>" %> <%@ Import Namespace="BugAspNetMVC"%> <% for (int i = 0; i < Model.Count; i++) { var index = i; Response.Write(Html.LabelFor(n => n[index].Name)); Response.Write(Html.TextBoxFor(n => n[index].Name)); Response.Write(Html.ValidationMessageFor(n => n[index].Name)); } %>

  • Validating ModelChoiceField in Django forms

    - by Andrey
I'm trying to validate a form containing a ModelChoiceField: state = forms.ModelChoiceField(queryset=State.objects.all(), empty_label=None) When it is used in normal circumstances, everything goes just fine. But I'd like to protect the form from the invalid input. It's pretty obvious that I must get forms.ValidationError when I put invalid value in this field, isn't it? But if I try to submit a form with a value 'invalid' in 'state' field, I get ValueError: invalid literal for int() with base 10: 'invalid' and not the expected forms.ValidationError. What should I do? I tried to place a def clean_state(self) to check this field but that didn't work plus I don't think this is a good solution, there must be something more simple but I just missed that.

  • DataGridView row is still dirty after committing changes

    - by Ecyrb
DataGridView.IsCurrentRowDirty remains true after I commit changes to the database. I want to set it to false so it doesn't trigger RowValidating when it loses focus. I have a DataGridView bound to a BindingList<T>. I handle the CellEndEdit event and save changes to the database. After saving those changes I would like DataGridView.IsCurrentRowDirty to be set to true, since all cells in the row are up-to-date; however, it's set to false. This causes problems for me because when the row does lose focus it will trigger RowValidating, which I handle and validate all three cells in. So even though all the cells are valid and none are dirty it will still validate them all. That's a waste. Here's an example of what I have: void dataGridView_CellValidating(object sender, DataGridViewCellValidatingEventArgs e) { // Ignore cell if it's not dirty if (dataGridView.isCurrentCellDirty) return; // Validate current cell. } void dataGridView_RowValidating(object sender, DataGridViewCellCancelEventArgs e) { // Ignore Row if it's not dirty if (!dataGridView.IsCurrentRowDirty) return; // Validate all cells in the current row. } void dataGridView_CellEndEdit(object sender, DataGridViewCellEventArgs e) { // Validate all cells in the current row and return if any are invalid. // If they are valid, save changes to the database // This is when I would expect dataGridView.IsCurrentRowDirty to be false. // When this row loses focus it will trigger RowValidating and validate all // cells in this row, which we already did above. } I've read posts that said I could call the form's Validate() method, but that will cause RowValidating to fire, which is what I'm trying to avoid. Any idea how I can set DataGridView.IsCurrentRowDirty to true? Or maybe a way to prevent RowValidating from unnecessarily validating all the cells?

  • Jquery Validate Issue

    - by Thomas
I'm using the Jquery validate plugin to validate a multi-step form like this one: http://jquery.bassistance.de/validate/demo/multipart/ Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it to work at all and there is a total lack of documentation to guide me through implemnetation. I think the accordian part of script is firing correctly because the bottom half of the form is being hidden and a 'next' button has been successfuly inserted. However, the form never validates or delivers an error message and it is impossible to move on to the next step. Check it out here: http://www.loftist.com/?page_id=78

  • ASP.Net How to enforce the HTTP get URL format?

    - by Hamish Grubijan
[Sorry about a messy question. I believe I am targeting .Net 2.0 (for now)] Hi, I am an ASP.NET noob. For starters I am building a page that parses a URL string and populates a table in a database. I want that string to be strictly of the form: http://<server>:<port>/PageName.aspx?A=1&B=2&C=3&D=4&E=5 The order of the arguments do not matter, I just do not want any of them missing, or any extras. Here is what I tried (yes, it is ugly; I just want to get it to work first): #if (DEBUG) // Maps parameter names to their human readable names. // Used for error checking. private static Dictionary<string, string> paramNameToDisplayName = new Dictionary<string, string> { { A, "a"}, { B, "b"}, { C, "c"}, { D, "d"}, { E, "e"}, { F, "f"}, }; [Conditional("DEBUG")] private void validateRequestParameters(HttpRequest request) { bool endResponse = false; // Use foreach var foreach (string expectedParameterName in paramNameToDisplayName.Keys) { if (request[expectedParameterName] == null) { Response.Write(String.Format("No parameter \"{0}\", aka {1} was passed to the configuration generator. Check your URL string / cookie.", expectedParameterName, paramNameToDisplayName[expectedParameterName])); endResponse = true; } } // Use foreach var foreach (string actualParameterName in request.Params) { if (!paramNameToDisplayName.ContainsKey(actualParameterName)) { Response.Write(String.Format("The parameter \"{0}\", was passed to the configuration generator, but it was not expected. Check your URL string / cookie.", actualParameterName)); endResponse = true; } } if (endResponse) { Response.End(); } } #endif and it works ok, except that it complains about all sorts of other stuff: http://localhost:1796/AddStatusUpdate.aspx?X=0 No parameter "A", aka a was passed to the configuration generator. Check your URL string / cookie. No parameter "B", aka b was passed to the configuration generator. Check your URL string / cookie. No parameter "C", aka c was passed to the configuration generator. • ASP MVC2 model binding issue on POST

    - by Brandon Linton
So I'm looking at moving from MVC 1.0 to MVC 2.0 RTM. One of the conventions I'd like to start following is using the strongly-typed HTML helpers for generating controls like text boxes. However, it looks like it won't be an easy jump. I tried migrating my first form, replacing lines like this: <%= Html.TextBox("FirstName", Model.Data.FirstName, new {maxlength = 30}) %> ...for lines like this: <%= Html.TextBoxFor(x => x.Data.FirstName, new {maxlength = 30}) %> Previously, this would map into its appropriate view model on a POST, using the following method signature: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Registration(AccountViewInfo viewInfo) Instead, it currently gets an empty object back. I believe the disconnect is in the fact that we pass the view model into a larger aggregate object that has some page metadata and other fun stuff along with it (hence x.Data.FirstName instead of x.FirstName). So my question is: what is the best way to use the strongly-typed helpers while still allowing the MVC framework to appropriately cast the form collection to my view-model as it does in the original line? Is there any way to do it without changing the aggregate type we pass to the view? Thanks!

  • Lists inside lists don't validate with w3c?

    - by cosmicbdog
Hi everybody, I've got some lists inside lists to make some fancy drop-down menus. e.g <ul> <li>something <ul> <li>sub menu</li> </ul> </li> </ul> Problem is, w3c doesn't like it. Is there a way to make this validate or this just one of these hacks that browsers can render, but w3c dislikes?

The problem is that i have no idea about how to validate and save that: @login_required def textpage_add(request): profile = request.user.profile_set.all()[0] if not (profile.is_admin() or profile.is_editor()): raise Http404 PageFormSet = inlineformset_factory(TextPage, Paragraph, extra=5) if request.POST: try: textpageform = TextPageForm(request.POST) # formset = PageFormSet(request.POST) except forms.ValidationError as error: textpageform = TextPageForm() formset = PageFormSet() return render_to_response('textpages/manage.html', { 'formset' : formset, 'textpageform' : textpageform, 'error' : str(error), }, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) # Saving data if textpageform.is_valid() and formset.is_valid(): textpageform.save() formset.save() return HttpResponseRedirect(reverse(consults)) else: textpageform = TextPageForm() formset = PageFormSet() return render_to_response('textpages/manage.html', { 'formset' : formset, 'textpageform' : textpageform, }, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) I know I't a kind of code-monkey style to post code that you don't even expect to work but I wanted to show what I'm trying to accomplish. Here is the relevant part of models.py: class TextPage(models.Model): title = models.CharField(max_length=100) page_sub_category = models.ForeignKey(PageSubCategory, blank=True, null=True) def __unicode__(self): return self.title class Paragraph(models.Model): article = models.ForeignKey(TextPage) title = models.CharField(max_length=100, blank=True, null=True) text = models.TextField(blank=True, null=True) def __unicode__(self): return self.title Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Validate checkboxes in MVC form

    - by Frode Lillerud
Hi, I have a table in an ASP.NET MVC2 form. On each row in the table there is a checkbox. Underneath the table there is a submitbutton. I want to make the button disabled when NONE of the checkboxes are selected. <% using Html.BeginForm(....) { %> <table> <% foreach (var item in Model) { %> <tr> <td> <input type="checkbox" name="selectedContacts" /> </td></tr> <% } //End foreach %> </table> <% } //End using %> <input type="submit" value="Create selection" name="CreateSelectionAction" /> The number of lines/checkboxes will vary from 1 to many. How can I use MVC2/jQuery to require the user to selected minimum one checkbox before clicking Submit button? Edit; Of the three answers below I couldn't get any of them to work. Nothing happens when clicking the checkboxes, and no Javascript errors are raised. Setting up a small bounty.

  • How can I validate the output of XmlSerializer?

    - by Tim Jansen
In C# / .NET 2.0, when I serialize an object using XmlSerializer, what's the easiest way to validate the output against an XML schema? The problem is that it is all too easy to write invalid XML with the XmlSerializer, and I can't find a way to validate the XML that does not look cumbersome. Ideally I would expect to set the schema in the XmlSerializer or to have a XmlWriter that validates.

  • Fluent NHibernate OptimisticLock.None() causes "The string 'none' is not a valid Boolean value."

    - by David Thomas Garcia
I'm using the following mapping: public class LoadMap : IAutoMappingOverride<Load> { public void Override(AutoMapping<Load> mapping) { mapping.HasMany(x => x.Bids).OptimisticLock.None(); mapping.Version(x => x.Version); } } But when I try to create the session I get the following exception: [FormatException: The string 'none' is not a valid Boolean value.] [XmlSchemaValidationException: The 'optimistic-lock' attribute is invalid - The value 'none' is invalid according to its datatype 'http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema:boolean' - The string 'none' is not a valid Boolean value.] I'm using NHibernate 2.1.2.4000 and I was using Fluent NHibernate 1.0RTM, but tried the latest build 636 just to be sure this isn't something that was fixed recently or something. As a side note, in case I'm doing this all wrong, I would like to be able to make changes to the .Bids list without incrementing Version. I saw an example on Ayende's blog that did what I wanted with properties.

  • Get paperclip to crop the image without validating

    - by Micke
Hello fellow stackoverflow members. I have been following this guide to enable users to have their own avatar. But i have bumped in to a litle problem. When the user is cropping the image the model tries to validate all my validations. My user model looks like this: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_attached_file :avatar, :styles => { :small => "100x100>", :large => "500x500>" }, :processors => [:cropper] attr_accessor :password, :crop_x, :crop_y, :crop_w, :crop_h attr_accessible :crop_x, :crop_y, :crop_w, :crop_h validates_confirmation_of :password validates_presence_of :password And when the user runs the crop updating script the user model tries to validate the password. But because i have no password field on the cropping page it can't validate it. Here is the updating of the crop: @user = User.find(current_user.id) if @user.update_attributes(params[:user]) flash[:notice] = "Successfully updated user." end How can i bypass this in a easy and clean way?

  • How to return model state from child action handler in ASP.NET MVC

    - by Joe Future
In my blog engine, I have one controller action that displays blog content, and in that view, I call Html.RenderAction(...) to render the "CreateComment" form. When a user posts a comment, the post is handled by the comment controller (not the blog controller). If the comment data is valid, I simply return a Redirect back to the blog page's URL. If the comment data is invalid (e.g. comment body is empty), I want to return the ViewData with the error information back to the blog controller and through the blog view to the CreateComment action/view so I can display which fields are bad. I have this working fine via AJAX when Javascript is enabled, but now I'm working on the case where Javascript might be disabled. If I return a RedirecToAction or Redirect from the comment controller, the model state information is lost. Any ideas?

  • Validating DataAnnotations with Validator class

    - by Pablote
I'm trying to validate a class decorated with dataannotation with the Validator class. It works fine when the attributes are applied to the same class. But when I try to use a metadata class it doesn't work. Is there anything I should do with the Validator so it uses the metadata class? Here's some code.. this works: public class Persona { [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "El nombre es obligatorio")] public string Nombre { get; set; } [Range(0, int.MaxValue, ErrorMessage="La edad no puede ser negativa")] public int Edad { get; set; } } this doesnt work: [MetadataType(typeof(Persona_Validation))] public class Persona { public string Nombre { get; set; } public int Edad { get; set; } } public class Persona_Validation { [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "El nombre es obligatorio")] public string Nombre { get; set; } [Range(0, int.MaxValue, ErrorMessage = "La edad no puede ser negativa")] public int Edad { get; set; } } this is how I validate the instances: ValidationContext context = new ValidationContext(p, null, null); List<ValidationResult> results = new List<ValidationResult>(); bool valid = Validator.TryValidateObject(p, context, results, true); thanks.

  • jQuery validations not working in IE 7?

    - by Pselus
I have a problem. The client is claiming that a prize signup form I built for them is not working in IE 7. It works in IE 8 just fine which they agree about, but in IE 7 it doesn't. (luckily they don't care about IE 6). I was hoping someone could help me debug it since I don't have access to a machine with IE 7 (I work on a Mac). The page is here: http://www.fuchscorp.com/midamerica/prizes/prize.signup.php When you click the Submit button in IE 7 it just doesn't work. Don't worry about submitting information as the site isn't live (so, no...you won't be winning any prizes). If someone could please help me debug this and figure out what's going on that would be amazingly helpful.

  • Is it really necessary to have a competely validated Mark Up and css for SEO purposes

    - by Hitesh Manchanda
Hi , While validating my CSS on http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ I am getting following errors: 1.Property zoom doesn't exist : 1 1. 2.Property -webkit-transition doesn't exist : all 200ms ease-in all 200ms ease-in 3.Property opacity doesn't exist in CSS level 2.1 4.Property -moz-border-radius doesn't exist 5.Property -webkit-border-radius doesn't exist Is it really required to validate the MarkUp and CSS completely for SEO or these errors which mostly are browser specific can be ignored for now. If these errors have to removed can someone please suggest the way to do so also.
