• Ubuntu 12.10 MBR not loading from dual boot selector

  Since I am new to the forums here I cannot post pictures, but hopefully this link to my error screen will work. Error when selecting to boot the Ubuntu mbr Basically no matter what I do, windows boot manager wants to load windows and windows only. I tried running from my hard drive and also from a USB drive that had live installed. Both times I ended up with this message. I am running windows 7 with all the newest updates, on a Samsung series 7 Laptop. I have had many dual boot machines in the past and never seen this issue. I even had a dual booting windows 7 machine a few months ago and had no issues at all. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Justin

• The Minimalist Approach to Content Governance - Retire Phase

During the Retire Phase our content management team should not have to track down content creators if the Request Phase of this process was completed successfully. The ownership meta data, success criteria and time stamp that was applied to the original content submission will help to manage content at the end of the content life cycle. The Retire Phase will provide the opportunity for us to prune irrelevant content items through archiving or deletion, keeping the content system clear of irrelevant information, streamlining users ability to browse and search for content.   1. Act on Metrics Established during the Request Phase Why - Some information is only relevant for a given amount of time. In Content Platform Migration Strategy - Artifacts vs Perishable Content we examined two content types - Artifacts and Perishable content. Understanding the differences between Artifacts and Perishable content will allow us to explicitly respect their various lifespans. Additionally, some content may have been part of a project that failed to meet the success criteria outlined in the Request Phase. Any content that did not meet the metrics outlined in the Request Phase should be considered for deletion. How - Thankfully by adhering to to The Minimalist Approach to Content Governance our content should have some level of meta data associated with it that will allow us to quickly sort and understand how to deal with it. Content Management Systems like Oracle's Universal Content Management (UCM) natively allow you to create and save advanced searches that can use content meta data like folders, author, expiration date, security settings and custom meta data to pull back listings of content for examination. Additionally, analytics are available for all content items that allow us to determine if the usage is meeting success criteria that may have been previously outlined during the request phase. The lists that are produced from these approaches can be quickly reviewed for each project with the content owners and based on the nature of the content and success criteria undergo archiving or deletion. Impact - Retiring content that is no longer relevant will allow end users to have fast and relevant access to information across your enterprise. As we mentioned in our first post in this series - it is easy to quickly start producing content, but the challenge is ensuring that the environment is easy to navigate and use on the third week and during the third year. The light level of effort that was placed into the Request Phase of this process will set us up to keep content clean and relevant for a long time to come. With an up-to-date content repository users will be able to quickly find access to the information that is critical to their work processes. You might not get a holiday named in your honor managing the content system, but will appreciate their quick access to quality information.

• The Year 2010, The Year of Change

  As I look back on the year of 2010, I could have never predicted the wonderful changes that have occurred for my wife and me. The beginning of this year started out as the 9th year that we lived in South Florida, and my fourth year working for DentalPlans.com as a software engineer/network admin. About 3 months in to the year I was given an excellent opportunity to work for MovieTickets.com in the software engineering department. This opportunity allowed me to gain experience with jQuery due to one of my projects was to reengineering MovieTickets.com existing Marketing Panel System. About 3 months after working at MovieTickets.com, my wife and I were offered an opportunity of a life time. I was offered a Job in a large background\information security company located in Nashville, TN as software engineer II.  I must note that after living in South Florida for 9 years, my wife and I really had a strong distaste for the South Florida life style and the general attitude/culture of the area. Even though we shared a strong dislike for the area in which we lived I must admit that it was a tough decision to leave MovieTickets.com because I was really doing well and I made some great new friends like Chris Catto, and Tyson Nero.  In fact, they introduced me to Local Microsoft User Groups, and software development podcast like DotNetRocks.com and Hanselminutes.com.  In addition, we also went to my first Microsoft launch down in Miami for Visual Studios 2010. I must admit it was a cool experience.  I truly hope to keep in touch with them to see how their careers grow, and I know they will. I must admit I was nervous and excited to start the next chapter in our live as I started up the 26 foot U-Haul truck and got on the road for Nashville from Boca Raton. I knew that the change was going to lead to new adventures and new opportunities that I could never imagine.  As we pulled in to the long driveway of our rental house, we knew that this was the right place for my wife and I. Natalie, my wife had actually come up to Nashville and within one week of my job offer had set up a nice rental home for us to restart our lives in TN.  I must admit that the wonderful southern hospitality took a bit to get use to due to the type of people we were used to dealing with on a regular basis. Our first 2 months seemed like we were living a dream because of our new area and the wonderful people we live around. So far my new job is going really well and I really like the people on my team and department. In fact after 6 months I am now in charge of all application builds for our new deployment process. I am also leading up a push for setting up of continuous integration within our new build process.  In addition to starting my new job, I was also offered a position as an adjust instructor at ITT Tech teaching course like VB.net, Java Script, Ajax, and database development. So far I have really like teaching at the college level.  Information technology has really been great for my life so I am really glad to be able to give back. That is actually why I started DotNetBlocks. This site allows me to document things I have learned as I work with technology, and allows others to borrow from my experiences.  I hope that this site can help others as others have helped me get where I am. Finally, I am glade to report that I only have 4 classes left for my master’s degree at Capella University. I am proud to announce that I am still on track to graduate with 3.91 GPA.  This last class was really a test because I had a crazy idea that I could work full time as a software engineer, teach two college courses as a first time teacher and also take an advanced masters class in application architecture. I have no idea how I actually survived, but I am really surprised how well I actually did. I was invited back to reach again at ITT Tech, and I passed my masters class with an “A”.  I have decided to take this next term off from my master’s program so that I do not get burned out.  Also, so that my new current employer will pay for more of my education, tuition reimbursement is an awesome benefit. In Oracle Utilities Application Framework V4.2.0.0.0 the following features are being announced for deprecation in the next release or have been previously announced and are not being delivered with this version of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework: ·         No SQL Server Support – Oracle Utilities Application Framework V4.2.0.0.0 or above does not ship with any support for SQL Server. ·         No MPL Support – Oracle Utilities Application Framework V4.2.0.0.0 or above does not ship with the Multi-Purpose Listener (MPL) component of the XML Application Integration (XAI) component. Customers using the MPL should migrate to Oracle Service Bus. ·         No provided Crystal Reports/Business Objects Interface – Oracle Utilities Application Framework V4.2.0.0.0 or above does not ship with a supported Crystal Reports/Business Objects Interface. This facility is now available as downloadable customization for existing or new customers. Responsibility for maintenance and new features is now individual customer's responsibility. ·         XAI Servlet deprecation – The XAI Servlet (xaiserver and classicxai) will be removed in the next release of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework. • Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and Emulex HBA Eliminate Silent Data Corruption

  Yesterday, Emulex announced that it has added support for T10 Protection Information (T10-PI), formerly called T10-DIF, to a number of its HBAs. When used with Oracle's Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel, this will prevent silent data corruption and help ensure the integrity and regulatory compliance of user data as it is transferred from the application to the SAN From the press release: Traditionally, protecting the integrity of customers' data has been done with multiple discrete solutions, including Error Correcting Code (ECC) and Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC), but there have been coverage gaps across the I/O path from the operating system to the storage. The implementation of the T10-PI standard via Emulex's BlockGuard feature, in conjunction with other industry player's implementations, ensures that data is validated as it moves through the data path, from the application, to the HBA, to storage, enabling seamless end-to-end integrity. • Upgrading to latest stable Mono

  Mono 2.8 was recently released boasting a couple of large performance improvements. It's far too late for it to make it into Maverick and I'm fairly inpatient. I don't use Mono for anything mission-critical (just playing music and sorting photos) and if it breaks everything related to Mono, I can probably either live with it or fix it. I'm aware of how much I stand to lose if I mess things up. So with that acknowledged, does anybody here know how to build Mono in a way where it could be dropped in to replace the current Mono (2.6.7)? By this I mean ideally mirroring the packages that Ubuntu uses so that if the worse does happen, I can just downgrade the packages. Or is there a PPA that does all this for me?
