• How to convince management of making our project open source?

  Xamarin 3 was released last week with a great new addition: Xamarin.Forms . This triggered our attention because we've been using such a system for a couple of years now. We've developed it by ourselves and used it for a bunch of projects. We've been looking for a way to make this project open source but we didn't manage to convince the management. They believe we should not make it open source because we won't win anything with it and all that will happen is that the competition will be able to build apps quicker with our library. We believe open sourcing our library will make the world a better place and that it will make our library much more stable and complete. So my question to all you people out there: How can we convince the management to open source our library?

• GPL exception that allows linking to free licenses only?

  There is the GPL license and the linking exception which allows closed-source programs to use the program as a library. There is also the slightly more restrictive LGPL (more restrictive than GPL with exception since it requires that the user can change the library in the resulting project, etc.). And there is the Cygwin exception that allows linking to open source programs. I see clear advantages: Open-Source programs may use the library. People may use these programs for closed-source programs, but then they lose the permission to use the (GPL) library. However, there are two things I don't like about the Cygwin exception: - Its legal status is disputed - I keep hearing that it is basically worthless - It requires certification by the OSI, I would rather have certification by FSF Is there an exception to the GNU General Public License that meets my requirements?

  I was wondering if anyone has come across any articles detailing how to set up a basic game in C++ for use in Android / IPhone / Desktop applications. My thoughts just now are that I would like to make my game as a library and have a different project for each device which just interfaces with this library. You know the kind of thing, bootstrap the program, call some library initialize, load and run routines and occasionally pass some information to the library like input. I was hoping someone would have made a template for this kind of thing but I just had no luck finding one. It seems to me that it's the kind of thing you really only have to do once, so I was hoping someone would have done it for me already.

  Hello all. I hope you can help me. I had a rails app running locally, and also uploaded and running on Heroku. All was well. Last week, I started work again and ran into a snag. At the beginning of my day, I opened up Terminal and ran 'rails s' to start the local server.   I'm having difficulty getting OpenId authentication working with Authlogic. It appears that the problem arose with changes to the open_id_authentication plugin. From what I've read so far, one needs to switch from using gems to using plugins. Here's what I done thus far to get Authlogic-OpenID integration working: Removed relevant gems: authlogic authlogic-oid rack-openid ruby-openid * Installed, configured, and started the authlogic sample application (http://github.com/binarylogic/authlogic_example)--works as expected.   I am trying to install SSIS on our production SQL 2005 SP2 box. Each time I try, the install/setup screen results in failure, starting with the native client, and moving on down. • Using SharePoint label to display document version in Word 2007 doesn't work when moved to another l

  I am surfacing the Document Library version of a Word 2007 document by creating a Label ({version}) within the content type of the Document Library and adding it as a Quick-part Label in the Word 2007 document. This works great. The latest version always shows up when I open the Word document. I also added this Version quick-part field to the footer of the Word document and then added this document as a document template to my content type, "ContentTypeMain". Now, I can go to my Document Library and I can create a New instance of "ContentTypeMain" with the Version field automatically there. This works great as well. However, if I create another Document Library and add the same Content Type, "ContentTypeMain" to it, the value of the Version quick-part doesn't update or refresh. The only way is to add another copy of the Label quick-part. It seems like the Quick-Part Label that maps to the Document Library Version is unique to the Document Library. My application dynamically creates subsites using site definitions and list templates. Thus the document library in each of the subsites are all being created from the same List Template. I inspected the XML files under the hood of the Word Document and it does look like there is a GUID attached to the Quick-Part Version field.

The remote server is Windows Server 2008 + IIS 7.0 + IIS Media Bit Rate Throttling Control. Since the request media URL can be discovered (e.g. from traffic sniffer), and I want to know how to prevent from download directly from the Url? i.e. I want end user to use my Silverlight media player application in browser to play the file, prevent them from download to local directly. • Django: What's an awesome plugin to maintain images in the admin?

  I have an articles entry model and I have an excerpt and description field. If a user wants to post an image then I have a separate ImageField which has the default standard file browser. I've tried using django-filebrowser but I don't like the fact that it requires django-grappelli nor do I necessarily want a flash upload utility - can anyone recommend a tool where I can manage image uploads, and basically replace the file browse provided by django with an imagepicking browser? In the future I'd probably want it to handle image resizing and specify default image sizes for certain article types. Edit: I'm trying out adminfiles now but I'm having issues installing it. I grabbed it and added it to my python path, added it to INSTALLED_APPS, created the databases for it, uploaded an image.   Hi All, I am trying to play video files from iPhone media player in my iphone application.I am reading the stream from one Media server. but i am getting error message as "The server is not configured correctly". Here is my observation: - I kept five different video files on server.(i am sure that all of these files are properly encoded and in right format.) - When i try to run same video URL in Mobile Safari i works perfectly without any error. - When i try to run any of video it doesn't create any stream on media server.(Usually when i try to play video it create stream on media server.but here the stream is not created on server side.) - I tried to play this files using Apple's sample application MoviePlayer but i am facing same issue.(Here i tried to run the application on Simulator) I also checked on my iphone 2G having OS 3.1.2 (jailbreak) but i face same issue.   I am using the Spark View Engine for ASP.NET MVC2 and trying to use Blueprint CSS. Now my site can just reference site.min.css and it includes blueprint's screen.css, which includes my reset. I can also tack on an @import "print.css" after my @import "screen.css" if desired. But now, I'm trying to figure out the best way to bring in the ie.css file to have Blueprint render correctly in IE6 & IE7. In my Spark setup, I have a partial called _Styles.spark that is brought into the Application.spark and is passed a view model that includes the filenames for all stylesheets to include (and an HtmlExtension to get the full path) and they're added using an "each" iterator. <link each="var styleSheet in Model.Styles" href="${Html.Stylesheet(styleSheet)}" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="all"/> Should I simply put this below the above line in my _Styles.spark file? <!--[if lt IE 8]><link rel="stylesheet" href="${Html.Stylesheet("ie.css")}" type="text/css" media="screen, projection"><![endif]--> Will Spark even process it because it's surrounded by a comment?

  Hi All, I am trying to concatenate two video files with the gnonlin components of the gstreamer. The pipeline I am using is gst-launch-0.10 gnlcomposition { gnlfilesource name="s1" location="/home/s1.mp4" start=0 duration=2000000000 media-start=0 media-duration=2000000000 gnlfilesource name="s2" location="/home/s2.mp4" start=2000000000 duration=2000000000 media-start=0 media-duration=2000000000 } ! queue ! videorate ! progressreport name="Merging Progress" ! ffmpegcolorspace ! ffenc_mpeg4 ! ffmux_mp4 ! filesink location="/home/merge.mp4" As a result I am getting only the second file for the duration specified in the parameters. Tried several things and also searched on google but I could not figure out the problem with the above command. Can anyone point what i am doing wrong? Any other way of concatenating multiple files into one based on time is welcome too. Thanks

They always ask my boss whether they can stop users from copying their media, and he asks me, and I always tell him the same thing: no. If the users can view the media, then a sufficiently determined user will always be able to make a copy. But am I right? I've been asked again today, and I promised my boss I'd ask about it online. So - is there a DRM scheme that will work? One that will stop users making copies without stopping legitimate viewing of the media? And if there isn't, how do I convince my boss?

  As you know iPhone plays video content from < video tags in full-screen mode via internal media player. Here I have several questions: 1) is it possible to show custom text over video playing? something like subtitles appeared during movie playback. I tried several solutions like http://blog.gingertech.net/2008/12/12/attaching-subtitles-to-html5-video/, but seems they are not working in iPhone case. Ideally, I want to add some div over media player and show necessary information there. 2) is there any way to disable controls of iPhone media player. Seams it is not metter if you add "controls" attrinbute to < video tag or don't add, iPhone always switch on controls for media player. The goal for me is do not allow to user to change playback possition(user should see full movie from start to finish.   I have added Private Frameworks To my project. When I build in DEVICE | RELEASE everything works fine and I am able to ldid -S the application and it successfully launches on my device. However, when trying to BUILD AND GO in Simulator, I get the error "No such file or directory" as indicated below: (I also get the error twice which is strange too.)
