  I'm looking for a way to disable the smart card PIN change ability provided with Windows 7's native minidriver. It doesn't allow us to enforce any PIN complexity requirements such that users could change their PIN to 000000 or blank without any issues so we'd like to disable that ability. I've been googling around and haven't found any way to do this, but perhaps someone has encountered a similar issue and found a resolution? A third party minidriver is the next step, but if we could do it without additional tools I'm all for it.

• Transferring programs to a different Windows partition

  I have two Windows partitions installed on a HDD, as well as a third partition where I have hundreds of programs installed. I've installed all the programs with my Windows 7 RC, but now that the Release Candidate is coming to an end I have to switch over to my other Windows installation. Is there an easy way to transfer all of my programs registry entries and other references to my new Windows installation, or do I have to reinstall all of my programs on my new partition? Thanks.

• SQL 2008 Report Manager not working

  I have a SQL 2008 developer edition with SSRS and the report manager is only available from the local machine. If I try to access it from any other machine I get challenged for my domain u/name and pwd 3 times and then the screen stays blank. I have made changes to some config files (originals copied out) in order to get a 3rd party application to run but that is now uninstalled and the config files are all back to vanilla (originals copied back in) I feel its something to do with authentication but am stuck ... any suggestions welcomed Jonathan

• Any home design software similar to The Sims 3?

  I tried Sketchup to sketch a home design but I find the controls a bit frustrating. I can sketch 10 times faster in The Sims 3, plus it is nicer to look at. Though the metric system may not be 1:1 ratio to reality but it's close, maybe 15%-20% off but this is a just a sketch, right? Anyway, is there any software that does home design like The Sims 3? The same ease of use but at a more professional level and a real metric system?

• Why am I losing cached network passwords after a restart of Vista?

  The passwords cached for Network shares on other computers and applications like MSN Live, MS Outlook, Sharepoint portal, Outlook Webmail, etc are lost when I reboot my computer, which runs on Vista. I always check the Remember password checkbox in applications/login dialogs where ever prompted. I cannot imagine of a third party program that may clean up this on system restart/shutdown. Any idea, as to what is going wrong?

  Is it possible to prevent or disable autorun/autoplay/device-stage by modifying regedit? Because of some constraints, I cannot disable by Control Panel options. I found some related questions here, for example, and some solutions provided by Microsoft, mainly involving this key on regedit: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutorun But none of these solutions worked, neither after rebooting.   I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 notebook with integrated GMA 965 VGA, using Windows 7. All my drivers are up to date, downloaded directly from the vendor site, installed with administrative privileges, etc. Yet, all OpenGL applications cannot render the interface (or any visuals). Examples are Blender (3D modeling software) and Babo Violent (top-down FPS). All the controls, sound effects and music are live, but the screen is black or light gray, respectively. What can one do?

  The only thing I miss from Vista on W7 is that, you can click the batery icon and select one of three power profiles without having to open the Energy option Window. Can I archieve this on W7 Without having to install a third party tool? I have tried one, but with so many bugs and problems, but I guess there are maybe one tool out there that works fine.   I have an external hard disk, where I have created many partitions to use also in Linux. The first two partitions are FAT32. The third is a Truecrypt Partition. I cannot assign a letter to the second partition. When I go to Manage disk and make right clic on the unassigned partition, most of the items are not enables. I'v 1) Installed the SSL key & cert 2) Placed the hash named CA and intermediate in to the \externals\cs folder Now, the connection between the mail client and the server is secure and works.   I have always been somewhat reluctant to "outsource" site statistics to Google. We have an Apache server running on a Windows server. I am pretty sure all the foundation to collect the needed visitor data are there. I would like to stop using GA, and use some form of application where the data does not travel to a third party but remains at the host, or at least travels to the remote administrator, if it is a log analyzer in a browser.   I am making calls from an ec2 instance to a third party web service (over which I have no control). I would like to be able to scale horizontally, so that I can make these calls from multiple ec2 instances, but the web service I'm calling whitelists my IP, and for the sake of discussion let's assume I can't get another IP address whitelisted. How can I send requests from 2+ machines that appear to the web service to be from the same IP address? Thanks!
